Increasing Volume by setting ALSA Value, works, but permanently resets - Motorola Droid 3

Ok, I hope someone who is experienced in these things can help. Since the Milestone 1 (Droid 1) was the loudest device I ever had, and the Milestone 2 and Droid 3 have a very low volume I was searching for months now, how to finally raise the volume beyond 100%.
Ok, I installed Alsa Mixer from the market, so I got alsa_amixer, and alsa_ctl.
I found out, that STDac was the value to modify (between 0 and 15) to really, physically control the speaker volume.
The best setting for me was: alsa_amixer set "STDac" 13
It works great BUT (!) although I save these settings with "alsa_ctl store" and prove that it was stored by restoring the settings "alsa_ctl restore", Motorla's firmware is RESETTING their own settings back after music playback is paused.
Can anyone help me find out WHERE these settings are and how I can permanently set a higher volume level?
THANKS in advance, I really hope that someone can help me.

When you get this figured out definitely post it. This is a annoying problem how quiet the phones are

Just use poweramp. It's one of the best players out there anyway

I doubt it's just music playing that causes the lowered volume, and finding where moto sets it's default volume could help those on CM7 who suffer from randomly inaudible alerts/ringtones too.
So far that CM7 issue has been blamed on bluetooth, but even with all BT packages and kernel modules uninstalled/disabled, it still happens.
A better understanding of motos volume voodoo would really help in tracing a lot of weird volume events on these phones.

I won't thanks . It's not about equalizer, it's about getting the speaker louder than 100% (btw. it's maxed at 75%!).

I'm not talking about equalizer. You can increase the volume with poweramp above 100%

When does the reset occur? Is it on reboot and/or could be managed with a script once at boot or something? Not a solution but maybe there's an easy work-around to use our values for volume.

As soon as audio playback stops, the volume level is beeing resetted. "alsa_ctl restore" brings back the custom volume level..

what about volume + ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.TEST.android.lvh)

Thanks. I tried it before but this app does not really make the speaker louder.

Volume + works great on my droid 3. Really loud now.

Problem is if its built from moto source or built up from a stripped moto release chances are it contains whatever script or code is causing the volume to be reset. Is it the same on ics? Any check the volume levels on reboot with alsa_mixer on ics by any chance? Since no official moto ics release is around there are better odds that the code isnt in hash' releases i would imagine. Odd that its being executed every time playback stops

@daimerion NO it's NOT louder, I just tried it the second time, with no refund... The volume level is still limited. Please try Alsa Mixer and set STDac to 13, THEN you will see what I mean!
But its not permanent, and thats why I am looking for a solution. Everyone, please try Alsa Mixer, set STDac value to 13 (max: 15).

The app works just as u described it seems to survive reboots so far I've had to reset it twice cabt tell what makes it switch back but thanks for the heads io on the app nonetheless
Sent from my DROID3 using Tapatalk

Ok now it won't stick for nothing. Resets every chance it can get. I really hope somebody with actual experience looks into this and can get a fix cause having a phone with the volume stuck at 75% kinda blows
Sent from my DROID3 using Tapatalk

Try using log at then using also mixer and see if it says what resets it?
Sent from my XT862 using XDA

Thanks, already tried that, but I found nothing. Months ago I was reading a post, that Motorola modified ALSA so that the could make HDMI working. I don't know (because I'm not experienced enough) if this could be the reason...
Are there no source files for the Droid 3, so that someone can compile a modified version of libaudio?

Its not a moto things. Its android. Im using aokp ics and its still going back from 15 to 11. I dont think its the system. A toast message popped up saying alsa has been granted superuser and then it went back to 11
Sent from my XT862 using Tapatalk 2

Thanks for this clarification. I'm not a developer unfortunately. Really, there has to be a developer out there, who can do that. I'd even donate for that. It's really important for me, as my ears are not the best.

[Q] Low volume when using headphones on Galaxy Tab

Hi all - has anyone else had issues with the volume when using a headset being way too low? I've tried the headset that come bundled, as well as my iPhone earbuds as well as 3 other pairs and they all sound substantially lower in volume than on my iPhone or Samsung Wave. I've made sure that the media/system/etc volume(s) are all at 100%, yet I can hardly hear a movie play back when on the train but have no issues when using my iPhone, Wave, or even sandisk clip mp3 player...
thoughts?
I had this issue and it drove me crazy. Then I realized that I had to push the headphone jack in harder to go all the way in. Once I did that, the volume was outstanding. I had to push harder than I expected.
I also noticed lower max headphone volume when compared against a similar product. Hopefully a patch will take care of this. I'm using a BT motorola s9.

I noticed that too actually - at first I realized I could push it in more ever so slightly (more effort to do so than I would've' thought), but unfortunately that didn't change anything :-\

ah, so you're having the issue w/a bluetooth headset too? I've just been able to try wired headsets/phones
Same issue here, fully plugged in.
Most noticable in-call with CSipSimple.
Anyone not having this issue?
I had a similar issue with volume set to max. I realized that if you reduce the volume and then increase it again up to max everything is fine.

Volume too low
I have the same problem. I spoke with Samsung support and was told that they know of no way to increase the volume.
Go figure...
Anyone figure this out yet? Or is the Tab too new to receive enough attention?
Simply go to settings, equalizer, custom, set all frequencies to max... enjoy the extra volume

Actually, you click the volume up to the max, then click down two clicks. Many modems have this bug.
Hi guys, I need help about this issue. Samsung stock headphones are well set into the hole and i can hear during a phone call but it is really really low. And no matter if you push it down strongly it just doesn't improve. It is a bit better with media. Tried some Sony Ericsson phones, a bit better bust still very low. Mic works fine in both cases. Help me please, because I can't make decent phone calls.
Anybody having this issue? I am stuck with headphones. They work almost fine when watching media content. The volume during a phone call is almost impossible to hear even with no background noise.I have tried different headphones but it's not helping. I still have to make a test using bluetooth. Is it a hardware issue or a software issue? I have a stock rom (Model: GT-P1000, FW: 2.2, BB: P1000XXJK5, Build: FROYO.XWJJ7). Do you think I can solve the issue upgrading to Gingerbread?
Voodoo Control
Hi everybody!
Did you try the market app 'Voodoo Control'? Nice one to maximise volume, but this requires a custom kernel implementing voodoo patches, I assume.
I had this problem too, but with the newest version of the Overcome ROM on gingerbread voodoo control is built into the kernel which allows you to increase the maximum volume of headphone output by using the voodoo control app.
Hope this helps!

You are mainly saying that the only way to use my tab as a phone is by installing a custom ROM? Upgrading to 2.3 stock ROM would not fix the issue I assume.

[SOLVED]Problem with Voodoo LOUDER - volume keeps decreasing

[SOLUTION]
Use +9dB as maximum boost (this is now the set default in the Note as Supercurio has found +10.5dB seems to cause headset detection confusion with some headsets).
Wondering if anyone else is having a problem where the system media volume periodically drops back with Voodoo LOUDER running? I note the problem seems to be worse when using line-out rather than just headsets?
I'm on Rocket ROM V15, Abyss-Kernel 2.8, KL7 with KL7 modem.
I've so far tried the following to fix it to no avail:
Thought it might be PowerAMP related, so tried all manner of permutations in PowerAMP settings, disabling headset automatic activities, advanced audio engine settings etc --> no success
Tried other music players - stock and Ubermusic --> no success
Different headsets --> no luck
Using the Voodoo LOUDER slider instead of the Smart Boost --> same problem
Given none of that works I'm wondering if this is a kernel issue (even though the whole compatibility check runs fine). If no one has any better suggestions I'll flash another kernel this evening and see if that helps.
I have contacted Supercurio, but thought someone else here might have already cracked this one for me?
If you disable "Smart Boost" in Voodoo LOUDER, the app loose any ability to affect volume at all.
I'm not sure in your report if it's what you meant by "instead of smart boost"
Oh really? Because when I turn that off I can still increase the volume with the slider option, so because of that I thought you could either have slider or use the Smart Boost. Regardless, it's not working with Smart Boost either!

Hi NZtechfreak! I've seen your awesome videos on Youtube!
Anyways, I've been considering purchasing Voodoo because of the terrible sound quality on my GNote, but was wondering if you managed to correct the issue.
Also, a side question, does Voodoo improve the in-call volume when using the 3.5mm jack? I ask because it is TERRIBLY low when I have it connected to the AUX in my car.
Thanks
I just installed it on mt E4GT and when i max out the volume is causes my music player to stop. Whether its on smart boost or not

The issue was that on max boost the headset detection gets confused, Supercurio mentioned this in his latest update. The max boost on the Note is now +9dB and it works perfectly (still more than sufficient). Hasn't made a noticeable difference to in-call volume in the car (I use mine in the same way you do). Presumably only affects media volume.
Thanks for the update
The big question is, is it worth the $15?

Hope that you are working on this because if not i dont understand why you still keep the 10.5dB option in the app if it doesnt work :S
Or how about going beyond +3db for ICS? It doesn't do squat anymore
Does not work with Cm. Damn...

(REQUEST) Headset Issue

Hey,
I am starting this thread to ask people about their x8 headset. The problem is the mine is quite soft in volume and even when cranked up to maximum I can't hear voices that well. Is this a shared issue or am I the only one with this problem. Input would be greatly appreciated. If I do not thank you today it is because I have reached my 8 thank limit. Is there any app people can recommend to help with this problem maybe a volume booster. I will be offline for a few days to sort out some coursework but will check back afterward.
Thankyou.
No i have not that kind of problem with my handset.
U can go and check for it if it consistently faced

As it says in my sig. I am on the MiniCM9. I have DSP but have never used it. All it has is equalizers. It is not quality I want but volume. Thanks anyway.
On CM9 you have to lower the volume to set it higher... Yeah, it's a littlebit weird, but it is like this. So try lowering the volume to half of the maximum!

Yeah V4A is a brilliant piece of software. It does boost the volume slightly making it more clearer and brighter but i'm still left wanting more. This is really annoying and i can't understand why google/samsung would do such a thing removing the ability to use the product just the way you want. I guess it's result of the bloody EU Volume limit that is beyond stupid imo.

Dear Whiz91
Use Volume+ 1.9.0.5 on rooted phone. It's improve the volume highly.
In Cyanogenmod (and it's goes the same for any custom rom I guess) you have that volume limit removed, you get just a warning when you pull the volume beyond that limit. Anyways, I found useful to boost the whole equalizer spectrum to +6db on a custom profile to enhance the volume.

Tried CM and Volume+. CM does NOT remove the volume limit and Volume+ just makes the sound quality into a muddy mess and not really louder. It seems like the battle is lost. ****ing EU rules and regulations...

same problem. stock non-root 64gb white. (and also terrible 2d performance as reported in other threads.)
the way to duplicate the misbehavior of the speaker volume:
go into settkngs/sound & notification.
simple raise the volume one notch lower than the maximum on slider next to ring volume.
once it set, the volume should loud and clear.
close the settings.
browser the phone or internet for a couple mins
come back to settings, touch the same slider for ring volume, without sliding it. the volume will be faded out/low.
touch the slider 2nd time: volume fades in/load.
but I can't duplicate the same behavior with other audio apps. only with ringtones and notification sounds

I had the same issue with my Nexus 6. Found a solution somewhere to disable the experimental nuplayer. Did that, rebooted - no good. But then I just turned the nuplayer back on for no reason. Sound is fine after that. It's been almost 10 days now, so I assume the effect is permanent.
Nuplayer setting can be changed from developer options.

Maybe a hardware issue? Someone mentioned applying equal pressure to the speakers. I tried it but didn't notice a difference. Just flashed 5.1, still nothing.
I'm noticing the landscape thing too.
When I first received mine (navy 32g, T-Mobile) I noticed the bottom speaker stuck out slightly more than the top, and it wiggled a little too.
Anyone notice something similar?
May be relavant to this issue, Do you guys have this issue ?
Received my brand new nexus 6 from carphoneware house UK & confirm that issue is still there. I can see distorted sounds when playing ringtones & Google voice search.
I upgraded to 5.1 but issue is still there so assume it must be some hardware issue.
Replacement handset on its way so lets see if it has same problem.
Had this problem when I first got my nexus ... its like the volume goes down to about what normally half sounds like sometimes even lower and at times fluctuates. I didn't have another phone at the time so I couldn't send it back and I hoped it was just a software problem but I have went from 5 > 5.1 > Chroma and even tried other things like switching nuplayer setting even trying Viper. Only have it effecting music (that I have noticed) :crying:
