I think this proxy is automatically populated by your mobile carrier. See if you can delete this without causing any issues. Note that if you change these addresses SMS or any similar mobile features may not work as expected.

Just use Adfree, it edit the hosts file. Works very well on all my devices.

Removing the proxy setting shouldn't have any negative effect. SMS/MMS are handled via separate fields in the APN setting

Read what the message says and follow those instructions.
Attached is pictures of what you need to wipe out. May look slightly different on your phone, as mine is still on gingerbread, because i like the sense UI.
just in case clearing the proxy does break something, write down what is there before you wipe it.

Not sure about adaway, but i must say adfree is the best...
i seem to be using it for ages and never had an issue.
goto market download 'adfree' by i think tin can or something...
install it...
a pop up will come with 2 options, just choose boot normally.
it'll offer to download some new files, let it.
once its finished reboot your device & your phone will be ad free

I'm facing this problem as well, except I can't remove the proxy because it is required for my operator. What can I do?

what's the "use custom IP" for in adfree? What if we insert our proxies there, would that make any sense?

[Q] Stock rom, Sense 6 on Sprint rooted - How to modify APN?

I'm on the stock rom Sense 6 OTA. I am unable to receive MMS using the HTC Messages app because the connection settings for MMSC does not have a value in it. I'm using 8sms (Vanilla messaging app) from the Play Store using the correct MMSC value and it works fine. Although it works, I would like to have the integration of the messaging app with Sense to work again.
I can't seem to edit the APN setting because it is grayed out under Settings > Mobile network settings > Access point names.
I have root access but S-On. Is there an Access point configuration file that I can update? Is there a way to be able to get the setting to be editable?
Below are the settings for the HTC messaging app and 8sms vanilla messaging app.

A little update on what i've tried. I tried enabling APN settings as described in
this post but after I reboot the build.prop file reverts to its original file including timestamp of the file.
I then tried editing the APN directly via apns-config.xml file under /system/etc but the file doesn't exist.
Still at a lost.

I've tried method 1 from the first link and moving the files works but as soon as i reboot the app disappears.
Method 2 works thats why im using 8sms for now.
I havent tried method 3 yet. I was hoping someone on xda had my problem and solved it first.
The second link does nothing.

Downloaded and had a look. It flashes a kernel and replaces the existing Sprint files with possibly new/unaltered ones. Best to do a nandroid backup before flashing imo.

[GUIDE] Enable Guest Mode

I'm back!
Here to enable more stuff on your devices.
r3pwn said:
I apologize. This was kinda a rushed release and I didn't get to test it too well (at all, really). All I did was notice the key in the database, then I enabled it, saw it actually did something, then wrote this guide. Upon further investigation, it seems that the Chromecast itself needs an update (we may see this in the coming days/weeks). In the meantime, enjoy looking at the menu, knowing that the feature isn't too far away!

What is Guest Mode?
Guest mode is a new Chromecast feature that allows a device to cast to Chromecast without being on the same wifi network, but Google hasn't released it yet. That's why I'm here!
Sweet! How do I do it?
You must download "#Configurator for Root" from the Play Store and be sure your device, not your Chromecast is rooted.
After that, open #Configurator and type in these for the fields:
Code:
gms:cast:cast_nearby_device_scanner:is_enabled
true
Then hit the "Configure" button and continue to type:
Code:
com.google.android.apps.chromecast.app
Then hit the "Kill" button.
If you get no popup screen about Guest mode, be sure you have the latest Chromecast app downloaded. (Can be found at
GAppsEarly)
If it's still acting up, give me a few minutes to fix #Configurator.
I don't like root apps because they could steal my data:
Feel free to compile it yourself. The source is at: https://github.com/r3pwn/Configurator

What could go wrong ?
Seeing as Guest Mode is unfinished software, I am wondering... what are the possible issues we could encounter by enabling it at this stage ?

For the person two comments above you, it wasn't working (Enabling worked, but it gave an error about communicating with the CC)
I am wondering if a Chromecast upgrade is needed. I guess I'll see when I get home later.
Google just approved the 1.1 update, so no more need to download the apk from Google Drive.

Yes, but you would need to reverse the flags, because they would still be there.
Enabled this, got the guest mode pop-up, cannot see chromecast anymore. What's the reverse flag?

how do i disable this firmware update nag window in Settings?

hi guys,
first of all, i am rooted. and i have googled for so many solutions to completely remove "Software Update" from the settings
NOTE: I have disabled to get updates automatically before this pops up. it came after a few days. :S
i have tried:
- removing otacerts.zip
- removing the fota agent apk
- disabling software update via package disabler
yet i still see this nag window?
any solution from you guys would be great!
appreciate it
right now im considering to re-wipe it and then before it receives an OTA, i will delete the otacerts as well as remove the fota agent first.

Everything is possible really.. What you should do is download a terminal emulator from the Play Store and find out what the processes name is that way you can disable it yourself while in the terminal.

Yes, I'm using the latest stock Google Dialer on my S7 Edge at the moment without any issue.
That "fix" doesn't modify or replace anything in /system. It only adds two missing files on non-Nexus phones that are required to be able to install the latest stock Google Dialer:
com.google.android.dialer.support.xml under system/etc/permissions
com.google.android.dialer.support.jar under system/framework
Both files included come from the latest Nexus 5 Android 6.0.1 system dump
Just tried it on z5c and it works perfectly well. I am curious what happens if I uninstall the stock phone app through titanium backup pro and keep the Google dialer. Anyone tried it?
Sent from my E5823 using Tapatalk
Thank you, this got the Google dialer installed and working for me, I posted asking how to get Visual Voicemail to show up inside the Google Dialer, but setting it as the default app fixed that too

I'm assuming since this adds files to /system that the phone would then fail SafetyNet checks? Meaning this would cause Android Pay to fail.

[MODULE] Chrome Home Button

Hi guys,
I was looking for a way to bring back the home button in Chrome like in the old versions, and I found a method. Now I made this module for personal use but I'd like to share it with you because it might be useful for you too.
Note: the apk file was not made by me, it was in old CM roms as system app, so don't credit me for this. I'm not the author, as years ago a similar module was already published here on xda somewhere, I just found the apk and build the new module and tested myself.
Please note: since I didn't develop this apk, I am unable to fix any kind of possible bug. I just made the module.

So maybe you can update the module for "move" Chrome to system/app? Just a idea

I think for that is better use App Systemizer since it's made specifically for these kind of actions

You don't need a module for that, it's already there:View attachment 4431893

Did you Enable a chrome flag to get that?
No, I went to settings in Chrome, selected 'homepage' and turned it on

I do not think it's a good idea to depend on using another module to use it, because without Chrome in /system, your module is completely non-functional.
Btw could you put this module in the Magisk Repo?
How to install it?
Chrome Canary has the Home Button flag in it, haven't checked Dev tho.
