Internal vs External SD Card Confusions - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This whole internal storage thing is confusing me a bit. Coming from the Galaxy S, all I had was my SD card. I felt safe being able to copy it and make backups.
I also like to have all my application specific data on the card incase I need to use it in another device.
Is there a way to make the Note default to using external SD? Pro's Cons?
Thanks for any help sorting this out.

I too am wondering this. Looks like it specifies the internal storage as USB storage vs SD card but some apps don't see it that way.

The internal memmory has two partitions, the system one(internal memmory 2gb) and the storage one(usb storage about 11gb) the apps install only system data on the system partition and all the user data is saved in the usb storage

[Q] How get apps to install their sd card data onto the external sd?

I had a whole bunch of questions but I answered a few myself.
One thing I'm still wondering about though is how to get apps/games like Caligo Chaser who download additional content to the /sd folder which is the INTERNAL SD to store that data in /sd/external_sd the EXTERNAL SD.
I wanted to do it by symlinking but then I found out both the internal and the external are fat32 formatted.. so that doesnt work.
I searched google and this forum but I couldnt find any good information on this.
This should affect many apps which download/store stuff on the "SD".
Can you set the "default" data storage directory or something? Or would you have to change the mounts so that the external is /sd and the internal gets a new name?
When I move apps to the SD via application settings they are really put on the external_sd.. so that works.. but why can't the additional (usually bigger too) data be moved to the external too?
Please please this bugs me so hard, someone try to answer this one please.
bump because i changed the whole thing
I believe its a android design. Not everyone has a sd nor should they need to. I guess Google relized that 2gigs is not enough for apps and data so in froyo you can move apps to sd card if it supports it. You can't move data as it could lead to problems when you remove sd card. As far as i know the galaxy s is only phones with more then the stock standard 2gigs of internal ram.

Also i think a few people have been trying to fix it but gave up as i havnt heard much

[Q] mount external_sd & sdcard as sdcard possible ?

Hi,
I've spent hours searching for a way to mount both my external sd card and the internal sd as one sdcard/ directory.
My aim is to be able to install more apps & more data, as the data often installs only in the internal sd space.
I think i've looked thoroughly throughout the forum but didn't find an answer.
I'm currently running a rooted stock rom and wonder if upgrading to a EXT4 ROM or other mean could solve this.
Does anyone know if it is possible and if so, how ?
Thanks
16gb of apps to sd isn't enough? You must be installing a buttload of programs. From what I know you'll never be able to merge the external and internal into 1 unless there's some android RAID utility which there isn't.
There would be the way of aufs. It worked on the Acer Aspire One, if anybody managed to port it to Android it would be cool.

Yes, I was thinking of aufs too.
There is also a possibility in Linux : Erase the file system of both the sd card and mount them as a VLM volume set.
But in this case, the removable SD becomes unremovable...
Thanks for the answers.

Is there any way so that i can save my Android applications data files to SD card

Since i am using Samsung Galaxy Ace i am sure you all know that the biggest disadvantage of this amazing mobile is low internal memory , i am tired of putting all sorts of cache cleaner and android assistant and freeing up my space.
Is there any way or app which allows to save the data files of applications to SD card. One of biggest drawbacks is that the more apps you put in your Ace the more data files get saved in Internal memory ( obviously) but let me know if there is any way to save data files to SD card.
Thanks a lot in advance
Please do not give solution of making partition in your SD card. i am looking for a new answer

Try apps like Link2SD or A2SD

[Q] Delete everything on SDCard?

Hey, as of now I got 1,15GB of available internal storage, no external SDCard or anything.
But hte problem is, I only got 1.15gb left of my internal storage, I barely have anything on my phone! No huge ROMS, or any other big files.
I've heard that formatting the SDCard would work, deletes pretty much every file on my phone.
Will I still have root/CWM doing this? And how do you format your SD card?
Thanks!
download solid explorer, you can grab the properties of your internal storage and it'll give you a breakdown of what's using up all the space.
And should you need to wipe your internal storage you can use Megawipe a utility developed by one of the guys here on xda. It will clean Everything pretty much a windows disk format use with caution and have a flashable rom to flash via odin or on an external card to flas via cwm recovery and of course back up your data first! Google it to find it if thats what youbare looking for.

[Q] [P100] [CDMA] [SGT7] Create internal sdcard and external sdcard?

Hello,
I would like the SGT7 to work like a modern day tablet:
1. Internal memory with emulated sdcard (for applications)
2. External memory w/removable sdcard (for media such as music)
I want the OS to create /Android /Pictures /Movie /Music etc. on the internal sdcard memory.
I want the external sdcard to be storage only for music and/or video files.
Can the SGT7 be configured this way? If so, is there a ROM or script for the P100 that can already perform this configuration?
Would I need a new .pit file?
I'm already rooted, flashed recovery, have flashed a few CM9 and CM10 roms already to this device and none have configured the tablet as I described. 2GB isn't much internal memory but I don't have that many apps.
Thank you!
Isn't point 1) and 2) the default behaviour of cm9 and cm10?

Thank you for the response. That is what I would have thought but after trying several roms the directories Android, Movies, etc. were created on the external microsd card. The installed app data is on the external microsd as well.
Not much idea on CDMA tab.
But I guess you try to take out external SD, then do wipe data or even reflash cm from internal SD card after that.
Make sure external SD isn't involved.
Then after all boots up OK, insert external SD.

Thank you, I'll give it a try!
UPDATE: there is no internal sd to mount to with the external sd removed.
Despite moving the CM 10.1 zip around the device to various folders via TWRP the zip wouldn't flash
Didn't work. Still trying to have an internal sdcard for apps and external sdcard for music files, movies, etc.
