Bad music clarity - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, before I attempt to single out what may be causing this problem I was wondering if this is a known problem with the SGS.
I never listened to music on the stock rom until I rooted it with the CF-root kernel so I can't compare it to it at the moment. If I cant sort it out before then I may attempt flashing a stock rom to compare. I am currently on slim ics 3.7 and am still getting the same problem.
Basically the playback sounds like the levels are all over the place. There is a lot of phasing going on with the sound and it just sounds awful. I was wondering if it could possibly be a problem with reading the music from the external SD card because if I go through the file browser and play it there it doesn't sound as bad. Also when I was on the CF-Rooted kernel with stock rom I noticed that if I moved a song to the internal sd card the problem wasn't there or at least wasn't as noticeable.
I am going to attempt to move all the music to the internal card to see if that helps, but until I get the chance I was wondering if you guys have encountered this problem before.
Thanks.

[Q] Problem playing music

Hi,
I'm not a big user of music on my Captivate, but last day I tried to play some mp3s and had a bad surprise.
First song always plays normally but the player freeze everytime I press next.
I tried with different players (stock player, 3, Player Pro) and it has always the same behaviour.
I'm running Axura 1.01 with recommended lagfix option.
The only thing I modified I could think of, that could have a link with the music, would be unistalling DRM service (to solve battery drain issue).
I didn't freeze this service (uninstalled if for real ) so I can't really check if it's the source of the problem.
Any idea/help is welcome
Thanks!
I had problems playing music for awhile it turned out to be my external memory card going bad it would still work in my old phone but for some reason it would start skipping and freezing in my captivate got a new card no more problem

Mount the card on your PC and run a check disk
If you still have problems, save your data and run a FULL format.
Thanks for the replies
It's still not working, my music is located on the internal SD of the captivate. I tried removing my "external" SD, just in case, but it doesn't change anything, music app is still freezing when changing song =/
Any other idea?
Flash to stock and see if the issue still happens?
Seriously though - this is a valid bug for the Auxura dev to address. If the folks running the ROM do not have this issue ... its possible that you will need to re-flash the ROM again to fix it.

[Q] Multimedia Playback Failed after running for a few days

Dear all,
I noticed my phone has an issue and I think this may not be rom / kernel related, so I would like to ask here.
My phone is running fine every time after booting up, however after running for a random period of times (say 2 - 7 days), it cannot play any media files. I can't play youtube (it said the video cannot be played), can't listen to mp3 (music player reported unsupported codec), ringtone disappeared (phone don't ring if i get call) and other apps failed in similar way. A reboot can solve the issue.
It is a bit annoying (especially when you when to play something and you suddenly identified that you need to wait for 5 min for a reboot), does any one experienced similar issue?
To clarify , I am running darky rom with darky kernel 1.0, however I had this issue for a few months, I was using super optimized kernel and had the same issue as well.
Same here. i'm running Darky's 9.4 but I don't know if it is related to this rom.
I don't remember that I had this problem before.

Another one running Darky rom with a problem .
jje
I have this problem.
(dark kernel 1.4 and darky rom 9.5)
I get this occasionally and I'm on stock 2.2.1. It's a massive pain in the arse. I thought maybe it was something to do with my external micro sd card but I formatted it and waited hours to copy all my music to it again and I'm still having problems.

So quite a few of people having this problem. Did anyone of us find out the root cause? And what's the reason that others do not suffer from this? This happened on Darky, Super Optimized Kernel, Speedmod, Stock Rom...
Some experts can help?
Also know this problem. Had it on stock and some custom roms too. Tried nearly every kernel ever available for our phone but didnt help. so it really maybe some strange Hardware issue...just speculating but when did you guys get your galaxy? cause mine was one of the `first generation` got it immediately when it was available here in germany in june/july 2010...perhaps this got fixed by Samsung later on

I've seen another thread were someone said it was called by the twitter client. They have updated the official twitter client recently, and I've not had the problem occur since. Although, it may be too soon to tell, it used to happen to me very regularly.
And just to followup, the problem hasn't gone away with the new version of twitter.
So, I'm not sure of what is the cause (or solution) to the issue.

Nope, i though you are talking the twitter update around 1 week ago. I just found that twitter have a new update today and never tried it if it fixed the problem. The change description do mention something similar, fixed a bug to skip music player while updating.. not sure if this is really the case.... need to test now...
good topic
I'm going to get rid of the twitter app then to see if it helps as updates don't seem to have done anything and I reformatted the sd card again and stuck everything back on there today and not only did it happen again, it's getting worse! Not only could I not play any music a minute ago, a load of my apps had vanished too! I assume ones that installed to SD by default rather than the phone storage.
If this sorts it out I'll be very happy. Twitter's crap anyway.
I've been having the same problem for a while now. I have just uninstalled Twitter and will see if that helps.
Basically all media stops working. Can't even record anything with the camcorder app. Nothing plays back. No youtube, no camcorder videos, no nothing. BUT arcmedia will open some videos sometime. HMMM weird, because other video player apps don't seem to be able to play them.
I'll give an update later today if it works. Videos normally stop working after only a few hours on my phone.

Do you guys have 8GB or 16GB models?
I've only come across this once and it was on a stock 16GB, one of the early ones, started about a week ago...upgraded to JVB seems to have solved it for now, time will tell.
16gb model, I've had 3 updates, and none have fixed the problem.

Wonder if it's just the 16GB?

[Q] Slow sound playback?

I've been using ICS on my O2 Galaxy S since around beta 2 of ICSSGS and never had any problems with it, until now at least. I had been using Doc's ROM V6 until thursday, when it decided to suddenly stop working overnight. (as in it would get stuck on the kernel splash screen). I flashed a a gingerbread kernel so I could reflash the ROM, which I still had stored on the internal SD. After reflashing the ROM everything seemed to be working fine so I continued to use my phone as normal on friday. However, I tried to play some music today and found that playback was in slow motion, making the sound very deep. I guessed it was a flashing quirk and flashed the official AOKP rom on to my phone, wiping all my data as well as the system partition. However, the problem remained. I flashed back to stock JVQ in the hope that this would fix it but no such luck, although the music plays at normal speed for a few seconds before slowing. The affected songs seem to be random, and it occurs in all apps, including games and youtube. Note, it affects all sound on apps that are not music players, whereas songs in music players are affected randomly.
Naturally this is quite annoying and it would be preferable to find a fix with it without having to visit a phone shop.
Thanks in advance.

The best ICS rom with working stock music app and tablet mode. PLZ advise.

Hi,
A little stuck.
I was recently on ICS stunner, and have been moving into the whole bluetooth headsets scene.
Got the MW600's which are real good. BUT. Poweramp is far to intense the music is overly bassy. so i thought let me just use the stock player, and none of my music plays.
Its weird because its all there just won't play, and when i go to storage the box for external sd is grey even though i have stuff on there.
I have tried a few of those command prompt things but none have worked.
So i decided to change the rom, just tried the liquidsmooth rom and i can't seem to get the density to go low enough for it to do tablet mode, and for some weird reason theres not a lot on there, no stock player.
I really want a ICS rom with Tablet mode, and i reckon some type of functioning stock music player.
Any help would be great cause i can see theres a lot of people on here that really know what there talking about.
Thanks
James

Music stuttering

Wondering if this is common to everyone on the Honor 5c?
One thing that is really bugging me is that when while listening to music and switching from one task to another, such as unlocking the screen or (especially) switching to an app, the music stutters slightly. Trivial perhaps, but starting to get very annoying.
These are local files, both from the internal storage and from an SD card.
It occurs with all music players I've tried.
It occurs with the Modaco custom ROMs and with pure EMUI, which I switched back to, both b102 and b120.
I've tried disabling most background apps, using the Performance profile, increasing SD card read ahead buffering, and when it was unlocked/rooted, locking the device at max CPU using an app,... no joy.
I've never had this issue on any previous device
