Thanks! This is a pretty sweet app!

You are using your own text messaging. It acts as a bluetooth link (or wifi) to your phone. You can dial and read/write text messages.

How is the battery when you do it through Bluetooth?

This app is great it allows for text messaging and making and receiving calls from my tab.
If your not familiar with this app it allows your tablet to use the phone number of your smart phone.
The configuration is simple when both devices are connected to the same wifi network.
When I am on the go and my phone is acting as an AP for the tablet, I have them paired using bluetooth and my phone stays in my pocket when making and receiving calls and text messages.

Battery life is awesome. I tether my tablet through Bluetooth for internet as well. I've never had my tablet go to less than 40% so far.

My phone is receiving 4g and then it is configured as an access point. My tablet is connected to my phone via wifi for internet access. Then the two are paired with bluetooth to make the tablet talk connection. Sorry I was not clear enough in my post.

google voice? that's what i've been using.

do you do this with the TabletTalk app?

I have't been able to make calls with my Tablet, I can make my phone call people and answer calls, but I then have to pull my phone out and use it... Anyone successfully use the tablet to make the actual call?

Hi Bark777
I'm about to buy that app. Can you just confirm to me if this is right?
Can my tablet connect and navigate on 3G (or H+) network using the connection of my phone?
Thanks!

This app is just for convienence. As far as I know it provides phone service and SMS service to your tablet via wifi or bluetooth from your phone. I get internet to my tablet when on 4G by setting up an access point on my phone and connecting my tablet via wifi to my phone. This was always part of my phones capabilities and does not have anything to do with tablet talk. When I'm in "on the go" mode I use bluetooth to connect my tablet to the phone and this allows the tablet to make and receive SMS messages and calls. My phone stays in my pocket or in my door pocket of my car. I hope this answers your question.

Oh, I see.
It does, thank you very much.
Do you share the internet only in 4G? Or using 3G does work too?

I don't think that is possible, but but it's a limitation of ics rather than a limitation of the app itself
Only way ive been able to make a call so far is via skype.

I think you need ics on your phone to make it seamless. Otherwise use pdanet for the tablet, and foxfi for the phone.

[Q] How do I get the Tab online?

Hello everybody..I have weirdest question, weirdest because it seems nobody asked it before, which means I'm blind or dumb or both not to know. I just gave away new Archos 70 after ten days, not being happy with speed and such and exchange it for Galaxy Tab. So my only experience with Android comes from those 10 day with Archos, still it seems so intuitive. How do I get the Tab online?
I mean, I have one of those without 3G module and public wifi sux so it's obvious to have your tablet/PDA connected to your mobile phone over bluetooth, isn't it? Where is this tethering option which I used on Archos?
Nothing, really? Do you all have a 3G module equiped model..? Maybe I should exchange it one more time.:-/
Not sure why ppl get the wifi version, when it is so much fun to use the SGT as a phone and tab.
The only option you have with current tab is to run with wifi thru AP's or hotspots.
I would exchange for the 3G version if you have the banana's
Thanks, StarLog. Well, honestly, wifi version is way cheaper here, but that's not the only reason. I definitely do not plan to use it as a phone, I have my phone already and this is tablet. I am not going to carry it with me on every step as I do with my phone. Also, I already have data plan with my provider, why should I buy a second one especially when providers here do not mind at all? And bluetooth data connection is very common thing, I just can't believe it is not available with Galaxy.
Why bluetooth and not wifi ? Tethering is working fine. All you have to do is activate the mobile hotspot on your phone then connect the tab to it. I tried with a gsm gtab and a htc hd2 with android.

Actually, I don't use my tab as a phone, bt I do want the always on experience, opting me to go after the 3G one. For the hotspot, you can root your tab, and then grab the wifi tether app.

I would just like to see if some people have same issue at times.

*when wifi is connected icon in notification bar floating with empty 4G icon
*new texts do not show up north finding them in stock message app marked read when they were not.

I disabled the att smart wifi app in settings, rebooted and that seemed to fix the problem for me

2 from me,
1. Battery life is tough. I must have this phone charging whenever I am at my desk or It will be dead by 8pm. I would consider myself to be a power user. I'm coming from an Atrix 2 and would make it through the day with only charging in the car dock.
2. No true gps toggle. I use the toggle switchs all the time, all others work but GPS.
Otherwise I love the phone it's very quick and I'm loving ICS

The only problem I've had was with the screen sensitivity. It's no longer a problem. I fixed it with a Moshi Screen protector.
It's thick enough to balance out the touch screen and it covers up all the Logos on the phone.
Juice Defender can also cause wacky wifi performance issues. You can adjust the custom settings in Juice Defender to leave wifi alone.
Smart Actions hasn't caused any problems with waking up any of the radios or wifi.
Wifi works best if you disable anything that has to do with automatically connecting.
When you connect to your wireless point, just click "remember" when it asks you to save settings. That way it should connect/reconnect faster when you are within range because it's not scanning. It'll just connect.
Anyways, from a security stand point you do not want it to automatically connect to any open network. Wireless SSID can be spoofed with a name change, and connecting to open networks is asking for someone to record your activity, or even launch SSL strip to fish out information on the secure sites you visit. Packet sniffing at a Starbucks free WiFi is easier than using 'One-Click-Root.'
So just avoid open networks and disable anything to do with auto connecting. It'll speed up waking up WiFi and it'll make you much more secure.
If you still have wifi issues just toggle airplane mode on and off.

There's 8GB of space; how did 2 apps fill that? Go into setting>Storage and see what's really eating up your internal storage. I found that the camera by default saves pics/vids to the SDCard and I would bet that's what's killing your space. If so you can change the setting in the camera app and use the "Manage Internal Storage" to move over pics/vids that are currently on internal storage.
I've not had any wifi issues.
Having had this only 2 days, the only problem I've noticed is that there is noise when listening to music. Specifically using the standard Apple earphones and listening to Pandora. I also tried some other cheapo earphones and the same thing. I tried both earphones on my old 3g ipod and it was crystal clear. But this is really a nit-picky thing and I can only hear it on the lowest volume setting.
I get this notification asking for what keyboard input I want to use sometimes when I have the keyboard opened. I click it and it asks me what keyboard input I want to use. I have never installed any other keyboards and this has been happening ever since I got my phone a few days aho

Nexus 5 - Internet Calling Experience/SIP Thread

So here’s a thread that focuses on the Internet Calling features of the device. I hope people will use this to share their experiences and give this feature more exposure! So how is it working for you?
I used Internet Calling with the Galaxy Nexus and now do this on the N5. The apartment where I lived—and, unfortunately, now my home—has poor cell reception and since T-Mobile doesn’t make it easy to support Wi-Fi Calling on these devices, I’ve resorted to the native Internet Calling/SIP support in Android. That said, some observations I’ve noticed since switching phones:
Overall audio quality appears to be better on the 5—audio is clearer and there appears to be less audio drops
Like the Galaxy Nexus, Internet Calling does not appear to support echo cancellation and I find the experience worse with the N5, particularly for those on the far side of my calls. I can help mitigate this by lowering the volume of the phone, but this is a balance between my ability to hear them and their ability to hear an echo.
Calls over LTE appear to be great—almost as good as the high-speed Comcast Wi-Fi I have at home. However, I was unable to make or receive calls successfully over T-Mobile’s LTE when the APN protocol was IPv6, which is the default—and changing this to IPv4 resolved the issue.
I am also aware of CSipSimple, and am currently piloting it on the legacy Galaxy Nexus, but, at this time, I want to give the native client a chance.
Cheers.
Reserved for possible future use
I also use CSipSimple for my work extension when I am not in the office to mask my cell phone. Has been working great! Sometimes I think the sound quality is better than cellular.

I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to using sip for internet calls. Could you guys help me get set up using the native client? Would I be able to make calls to anyone over WiFi or LTE? Thanks in advance.
I tried it on Nexus S and then Nexus 4, battery life sucked with incoming calls enabled, so I've given up on SIP for now :-/

This is not actually using the Internet Calling feature of the phone or SIP. My first exposure to this was with the Galaxy Nexus and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1583120&highlight=sip&page=12 is a great thread with relevant information.

Those of you using CSipSimple or the native dialer, I can't get the echo to be reasonable. Even when turning the volume down, it still persists.
This issue is well documented on google code for both csipsimple and android.. https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=41626
How are you guys getting around this?
So would this solution work if, say, I was in a bad T-Mo cell area but wifi was available? i.e. I could make calls over wifi, the way that T-Mo intended, except not with a Nexus?
Also, isn't GrooveIP about to be discontinued? is Talkatone a reliable alternative? I downloaded it the other day but haven't had a chance to mess around with it yet...

If you are looking for an SIP provider, there are many. I use callcentric and am pretty happy with them. Just put in your member # and pw on the native dialer and it registers right away. If you pony up a couple of bucks for a number, you can use it as one of your Google Voice numbers. They will even let you mask the number match your Google Voice number so it looks like you are calling from GV.
To answer your question, you can call on any data connection. I even get good clear calls even on edge.
FYI, if you do set it up with GV, make sure you are not calling through the GV app, it doesn't play nice with the SIP function.
Has anyone used text plus for voip? I've been using it and it has great voice over mobile data. Only bad part is some wifi networks don't respond well to it.

Yes, but the Wi-Fi and its Internet connection has to be of high quality as well (for example, this might not work well at a Starbucks).
Is there anyway to use my existing cell # over VoIP? I have no signal at work but good WiFi.

Can anyone create a step-by-step for this? I wouldn't want to use VoIP unless I'm in a crappy cell area with good wifi, i.e. most of the time I would not use this process.

If you use app ops and disable location reporting it will remove the wake lock. That's what i did to all programs requesting location reporting and location history. They eat up a crazy amount of battery trying to get your location.

Wi-Fi tether no longer an option..

Ok so I'm running a Rom that has the native Wi-Fi tether enabled but as soon as a device connects the signal drops (meaning I loose data on the phone)
I've noticed many many people after updating to kitkat having the same problem but no one has a solution.
Has anyone found a workaround to get Wi-Fi tether working again?
I'm using a sense based rom. Not sure if aosp rom would fix this issue.

+1. I have been searching for a fix myself. The 4g and native tether do not work well together, at least with me. I've tried the patch on stock roms as well with the same results. I connect just fine, but then seconds later the data will drop. I have good 4g coverage and without the hotspot active, the connection will never drop. If I switch to cdma only there are no drops while tethering. I have been testing different scenarios to find a solution, but no success yet. I also have not found any mention of the problem on the cm threads, but I prefer sense and have not tested. It makes me wonder if the sprint proxies are causing this. I am tethering a window device.

I am having the same problem with the stock OTA and and using the hotspot hacks since I don't have a hotspot plan. It would be interesting to know if those with a hotspot plan (for which the native app should work unhacked) have the 4G problem too...

Good question. No I do not have the hotspot plan. Never have needed it with the fix prior to kk. I'm not abusive of it, but I simply hate the fact that 4g now doesn't work very well with tethering. Seems to be a hit or miss with everyone. Mine will connect, load a few pages then out of nowhere the connection drops. Go cdma only and it works as should. I'm hoping a few of these threads will gather some attention and help us find a solution for everyone.

Been testing some CM builds of Kit Kat. I have been running CM11 build modded by IrocEvo the last few days. I have had zero issues with any type of tethering. 4G tethering works as should with no disconnects. I'm not sure what the difference is in the scripts for the mods, but possibly someone could assist here. For now, ill be keeping a backup of this build specifically for tethering purposes.
I don't have hot spot on my plan, but I'm trying the new ecliptic rom with sense six, just haven't been able to try4g tether today...been to busy building an engine :/ hopefully try tomorrow
After some further testing on the CDMA+LTE mode, I was able to determine that I could successfully tether my android tablet and samsung smart TV with no interruptions. The problems begin while using this mode (rather than CDMA only) and tethering my laptop. It appears while using this radio mode sprint sniffs the packets for user agent data and once determined its a windows device the connection is interrupted. My question is, why would this happen on this radio mode only? Are the APN settings different for this mode and can those be changed. Sorry to keep beating the horse, but I would like to find a solution rather than running a VPN to tether my windows 8.1 laptop. Any ideas? Thanks everyone.

Do you use chrome or IE? When I use chrome all is fine, when I start using IE I get the drops. I'm using a MS Surface Pro on Win8.1. Strange, but I think I have pinned it down.
Why would you choose to use internet explorer?

Honestly I use both chrome and ie...my work stuff and chrome don't agree...but I use chrome for just about everything else
I've looked into this before and the common response I would find is that it has to do with the Hotspot apk in Sense. There was some sort of change when moving from JB 4.2 to 4.3.
I've since moved to the Google edition rom and everything works there ?

+1. I have had no issues with wifi tethering on the CM builds here as well. Made a nandroid of a CM setup that I use when needed. Wish we could determine the difference. Thanks for the GE tip.

If wifi is enabled it should connect automatically as long as you have previously connected to it and are in range(obviously). When wifi is enabled it scans periodically for wifi networks in the area.

Tasker can do it based on time or location and I think there's a couple others as well... I just use tasker because I use it for a lot of things, but I also just leave Wi-Fi on
