Email "Connection Error" for Hotmail and Exchange when loading HTML - Galaxy Tab 7.7 Themes and Apps

I recently bought the p6800 - amazing device! I loaded sk806's firmware, which is excellent! Ever since setting up my email accounts for my corporate exchange (2010) and hotmail, any time I try to pull down HTML formatted emails, even with "Load more details" or refreshing the email list, I get a "Connection error" for both my hotmail account and exchange account. I do get the emails, just no HTML content.
I have tried setting my mail to pull down all of each email message, rather than a part of the message, deleted and recreated my accounts various times, cleared the email data, tried only one account, etc, and no success. Once or twice (out of hundreds of attempts), I have been able to get the HTML, but those couple of times are not repeatable. I am thinking there is a problem with the exchange services from Samsung, as both accounts use these services. The same settings on my other tablet/phone work fine.
Any ideas or a replacement email.apk? Thanks all.

Sorry, my above was probably confusing:
Is anyone having problems downloading emails from exchange servers in html format using the Samsung email client? This gives me "Connection error", even though the emails come down in text format. Other mail clients like touchdown or enhanced mail work, but I like some of the features of the Samsung client.

im in the same boat here
my other email accounts seems to have the same problem with the email client

I had the same problem - at first my two mail accounts (one pop3, one imap) were running fine and after about 3 weeks I always had a general connection error. After a longer research I found the solution in one forum:
There's a bug in the Samsung client, that when in airplane mode with wlan enabled this connection error occurs. and really - what I had changed was inserting a SIM card which was disabled. With 3G enabled the mail-client gets server connection, also over wlan. Stupid!
werich

Wow! That looks like it may be it. Thanks. I took it out of airplane mode and no go, but when I added a sim card, the error was gone. It appeared to be a bug in the client, but now I know how to get around it. Time to get a cheap sim.
Thanks Werich!

You don't need a SIM card, just avoid the airplane mode (I takes some minutes or a restart to take effect). But as this mode uses alot of battery, even without SIM, this bug makes the build in Mail app practically useless for me. So I'm hoping for ICS...

I found that. Once it started working, even when I removed the sim card, it continued to work. I agree, for battery sake since I dont have a sim currently, I would rather leave it in airplane mode. At least there is a workaround. Hopefully we will get ICS soon. Thanks again.

I found a way to enable Airplane mode without connection error. I use app "Airplane mode modifier". I select "not disable WIFI" in Airplane mode. After that I can enable Airplane mode without this email issue.

Just for your information: the ICS update fixes that issue too.

And on HoneyComb, I could enable airplane mode, then click wifi to turn it on.
Anyway Im on ICS now and it's the sweetest ice cream of all.

In Honeycomb i used to have "connection error " when using WIFI , but on 3G there was no connection error
but since ICS was released , I never got connection error on WIFI or 3G

Secure SMTP

Howdy,
I am having trouble using smpts with our servers here at work. It sometimes works and most of the time does not. When it does not work I get a generic message about not being able to download messages or the account info is not right. Obviously the account info is right as I can occasionally send. Sending and receiving are set up for secure access to our servers. When we watch the server logs sometimes what we see is that the phone connects and then does nothing. Other times we never even see a connection attempt. Of course now and then it will send the mail like nothing is wrong. Sometimes it seems that a soft-reset helps to send mail ONCE, and then it is hosed again. The soft-reset does not always work either. I did not try to use secure email when I had the stock ROM, has anyone done this?
Anyone using secure email on the Cingular 8125 (built in mail client) and having issues? I'm running the Molski beta 3.2 rom and typically have the phone overclocked to 240. I've tried dropping the overclock but that did not seem to help the issue.

Certificate
I had to install a certificate, provided by my company, to receive email.
We have a certificate on our server but the weird thing is that every now and then the phone will send the mail. When it works it works as expected and we see the log in and file transfer in the server logs. Otherwise it either connects and then just seems to drop the connection or does not even show a connect attempt.
How/where did you install your cert?
Cy
Sorry but I dont understand the problem.
I assume you are trying to use push technology with an exchange server 2003 sp2.
If so the certificate you need is the one installed as the security check on the server. In my case this is a self generated one using a domain name I own. Some people use a more secure one that can be purchased.
A good place to start with this problem is to go to the mobile settings on the exchange server and turn off the security, this will allow you to check this is a certificate issue, you need to check the obvious as well, firewalls etc..
I use secure IMAP and secure SMTP on summiter's last rom and it works fine most of the time. Sometimes it won't connect, but i think that is either a cingular issue or it also seems to happen if my push email (Exchange) is doing some random activity on my phone. It is definitley more reliable than trying to view my hotmail...
My phone prompts me about the certificate every once in awhile. I just click yes and move on. It prompts me after rebuilding the phone or randomly every couple of weeks, usually after a reboot.
what protocol are you using for receiving email on the phone? pop or imap?
try it on a 2.xx rom and see how it goes.
We do not use exchange here. This is not a push setup. I have the phone checking for mail every 5 minutes. We have a very customized Linux server running sendmail. As I mentioned earlier, the incoming pop3s is working great. But most of the time I get an error on the phone when trying to send using smtps. About 1 in 5-10 attempts will go right through. It is very strange that on our server we do not see much in the way of details. It has to be something about the phone/cingular service. When we check the functionality of our server config using a desktop client configured for secure send/receive it works every time.

"Why do we always seem to get these intermittent problems?"
weird. if mine is going to have trouble it just won't connect at all. once it starts downloading email, it will send as well. Try the new 3.3 rom and see if it works for you with that one. Mine is working great on there
Yes, I loaded the new 3.3 yesterday and it seems to have fixed the issue. Although now I am having trouble with Cingular's IPs not resolving so our server won't forward my emails. :/ But, that is another issue.
Thanks to everyone for trying to help me with this issue.

Gmail not syncing with Tilt...Help

i have flashed my tilt with HyperDragon's nov 15th rom...everything is awesome, but i am unable to sync or obtain my email from Gmail...its giving me a data connection error...saying that there is no connection and that i should check my setting...but i can access the internet so i do have access to the internet...help please...thanks in advanced...
Are you using bluetooth when this happens? And have you tried going airplanemode> then turn just phone back on? Then launch gmail? There are a couple weird bugs.
The bluetooth only usually effects wiifii for me... however if your not soft resetting once inawhile i could see maybe your just bugged out. (?)
Theres also an app here somewhere gsynch or something its called, punch in your account shizzle and it synchs you all up.

Email stuck at "receiving headers"

Hey, I'm getting really bugged by this problem here.
I recently went to energy 1.3 and when I hit send/receive in my yahoo emails it logs on and sits at "receiving headers" for about 3 minutes before it gives up. I cant get it to download any of my emails. Anyone have any insight on this? I have no clue, maybe its a connection setting?
I know that when I load up the rom for the first time it says multiple connections found and it makes me pick from some weird ones (tracfone, voce) I usually pick voce to get it to go away then I go to the connection wizard and select ATT. I'm lost :-(
Solution! Clear all Yahoo! emails out of the phone, and start over. It somehow got hung up when I changed some email settings. It seems to be working fine now.
Wait so there's a limit to how many emails you can have on your phone? I had the same problem with my gmail account. It wouldn't let me dl any more emails after a certain limit. I thought it was a software problem.

[Q] Microsoft Exchange sync problem

After about 2hours of using my phone on wifi the exchange sync (built in mail application) doesn't sync anymore (internet itself keeps working). If I then disable en enable wifi, it works again.
I connect to exchange via https (outlook anywhere). Same goes for calendar.
btw, my GMAIL keeps working with no problem. It's just exchange that stops syncing
have you tried restarting the phone?
might be a service that got stuck
yep, doesn't fix it.
I'm gonna test TouchDown to see if it shows the same behaviour
Are you accessing Exchange via "Email for Exchange" or "Corporate"?
what do you mean?
I've made an account on my phone that connects to the 'webmail' of the exchange. Official name is Outlook Anywhere.
noob with similar issue
I'm a relative newbie to this forum so unsure of posting protocol, apologies in advance.
But whatever. I have the att version of the galaxy--the captivate--and have had a hard time getting exchange to work reliably. I've several times deleted and re-created my exchange account, and it will sync initially, and sometimes once or twice thereafter. But then, it ceases working competely, simply saying it has a "connection error".
This happens whether I'm on my company's wi-fi, home wi-fi, or just over the air 3G. the only fix is to recreate the account, and that's a pain.
I had an old winmo HTC fuze for a couple years, and it worked fine with this exchange server--I don't think I ever had to recreate the account, and it was thoroughly reliable. I also borrowed an old G1 for a couple weeks, used Roadsync, and it worked fine too.
I read in another forum that advanced task killer was the culprit, so I deinstalled it. No change. I also read that turning the synchronization on & off from the power widget was worth trying. Also no change.
Any other ideas? I too will try a 3rd party client before returning the phone. I mostly like the phone otherwise, though the GPS problem is annoying.
Appreciate any help.
Tried it with Touchdown: same issue. It tells me: No available network. However website continue to work...
When I click some links/visit some sites, it starts working again...

it sounds like the Wireless or 3G goes into sleep mode when you are not using it.
I have a similar problem, my calendar is able to sync but contacts unable to sync with exchange server.

[Q] Email auto-sync going to sleep?

I have both a corporate email and private email account setup on my Galaxy.
The corporate is an auto-sync through exchange and syncs my contacts and calendar as well
The private is a pop3 account which is set to sync every 15mins.
After 12 hrs or so the private email invariably goes to sleep and doesn't receive any new messages. Sometimes a manual 'refresh' wakes it up, but most of the time I need to re-boot the phone to get it receiving email again.
The corporate exchange account seems more robust, but has also gone to sleep on a couple of occasions
Ideas?
I've seen similar things with my AOL accounts (don't laugh my parents have been using them for like 13 years and I'm not chaning my email after all that time). They seem to have a mind of their own as far as updating themselves goes. Sometimes, its fine, sometimes they just don't bother. Sometimes one of my accounts runs just fine for days, and then I discover that a different one hasn't been syncing at all and theres a bundle of really pissed people wanting to know why the hell they haven't received something.
I have tried using K-9 mail (check the app store), and that works just fine. Does exactly what the native client should be doing.
However, I hate the K-9 icon, and so I refuse to use it until I can figure out how to change the icon without breaking the app. Tried a few times, but no luck *sigh*
Also, you'd think that a standard polling email app shouldn't have any problem just checking stuff.
Strange. Had this last night as well. I know this has worked before as was getting my email in the mornings but had to reboot to get it to work this morning, tried on-off airplane mode as well, before reboot. Interestingly, gmail pulled mail down after wifi was turned back on.
Am on stock DXJG04. I did post on another thread about some processes which seem to cause extra battery drain overnight. Something about suspend not working properly. Not sure if related.
