now,the question is,can i root using the mentioned method?ive downloaded the how to root guide from dr.ketan, but when i read about the hardbrick,im getting confuse..so,is it safe to continue using this method?..
thanks in advanced

Yes the rooting process is safe. Its just not safe to do a factory reset or data wipe if you are on a lpy-lpf etc kernel.

ok,so whati need to do,i downgrade my phone to direct rootable rom using pc odin, root it then install cwm..and if i want to install an ics rom,i use the cwm is it and keep my cf root..then i will have an updated rom with root and cwm...am i correct?

anyone?

no no no, thats not the way it works, no need to downgrade, but there are some other things to consider as the yellow triangle that appears after flashing a cf root.tar, i thing the safer and quicker method would be this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1647148
as it says, just dont make any backup or restore because it dont work but the root will work fine

what if i wanted to flash a custom rom?for example the kingdroid..so,i need to install cwm is it?

Flash Using Mobile ODIN
With root on, you can always use mobile ODIN to flash to any firmware of your choice. No binary count and also no triangle.

You can use MO to flash any STOCK firmware of your choice.
For custom ones you need to have a working CWM Recovery.

cheers
i suffered that alot when i was new to rooting and flashing, just try flashing a new stock firmware back to the phone from samfirmwares.com and see how you go,
actualy pre rooted firmware
firmware http://www.multiupload.com/YY0JBMUWBF
csc file http://www.multiupload.com/NRVCK6KYWD
512 pit file http://www.multiupload.com/I5WICSBFJ1
see how you go with that, although u may need to manually add youre providers apn settings in after though
Regarding the icon: flash the bootloaders(boot & Sbl) and a working kernel
Thanks for the posts ...fliptechnologies do i use odin to flash them files ? where does the firmware go ?(pda?). Does anyone know if anyone with the same problem has made a guide by any chance ?
thanks
there are apps which help you root your phone using adb
like SuperOneClick you might want to try it, or using a firmware with root as suggested
there is also an app which can be installed in your phone to root ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953)
but first you need to get a firmware in order to install that app
get an stock ROM like 2.2 froyo or 2.1 eclair, then try with the app

[Q] CF root is not rooting my phone... What did I do wrong?

I am on firmware LA3, using the LA3 CF root files. I have placed the zImage from one .tar file into the correct folder in the CFroot files and have the other .tar on my desktop like I saw in a video tutorial. USB debugging/Unknown Sources enabled, and all drivers are installed. Everything looks to be working fine until the end of the zergrush where there is a permission denied error when trying to write to dev/block/mmcblk0p5. Other than that, i don't know what else it would be. Any suggestions?
I also included a screenshot of the Zergrush.

LA3 cannot be rooted using zergrush method. You have to downgrade to at least KL1 or older stock Roms to be able to root them with ZG. Of course, you can upgrade to whatever you want once your Note is rooted, and keep the root in the process.
Read carefully this thread, and you'll get there.
What if I directly install it through Odin? I know that it would increase the binary counter, but I don't really plan on getting it returned ever since it is not under warranty. Will it work then?

No it will not. Follow downgrade method
I did flash my stock LA1 using PC Odin and it worked fine, only giving triangle and +1 custom binary counter. But I used JIG method to clear the triangle and reset the counter.

This is confusing me... I am trying to follow this:

which tells me to use LA3 and then flash the kernel. What is going on here? I just want to get to ICS...

Above method installs only CWM Recovery. If you want root , then u have to downgrade to KL3 and below version, then Root.

Thanks you. That clears things up a little bit. I haven't been keeping track of things the last couple months and am getting overwhelmed with all the new stuff that is coming out .
Don't go for KL3, because some of those are rootable directly, some are not. As I said before, pick KL1 or older. You can root any one of those with zergrush for sure.
Then you can proceed with installing Chainfire's ICS Repack and any custom ICS build.

[Q] Help fast ..dont know wat to do!!!

hey i recently rooted my phone...installed xrecovery...even backed up my data...and try to install this custom Rom...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=964223 i followed the exact steps and everything..at last when i did reboot....it said will take 1-5 mins...and half an hour was over ..and i dint know wat to do so i removed my battery and tried..still the screen was stuck at Sony Ericsson ..i tried to go to xrecovery also but couldnt..tried pc companian and i still remain on the same page.(sony ericsson screen). How to recover my phone now pls telll ??
You need to read carefully.
The ROM *requires* nAa kernel to work and should be flashed in CWM recovery.

flash this with flashtool. this is stock rom for x8 untouched so you have to root it and make other steps again!

the rom is for nah pc companion should work ,,, or DL flashtool and the x8 ftp file if you whant change your baseband to ,, root and copy paste the xreco again happy soft brick my friend enjoy
you can still recover your back up after you install xreco
Not xRecovery. Just root with x8toolbox, unlock bootloader, install a kernel and flash the ROM in CWM recovery. xRecovery is old, it's not used anymore.
for now i am doing the 2nd option here in this link ...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12442257#post12442257 ....then ill need to get a custom rom rite??

2) flash a kernel
3) wipe data via CWM
4) install rom

Rooting Samsung i9000 DXJPA and installing Cyanogenmod using Heimdall

Hi all,
I want to root my Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9000 and install Cyanogenmod 9 on it.
I'm using a Mac and will be using Heimdall.
The problem is I don't know where I can find the correct version of Clockworkmod for my phone. Can anyone point me in the right direction? My phone details are below:

Thanks!

Yes, because you need the gingerbread bootloaders to install CMx anyway. So do this.
1. Upgrade to 2.3.x with kies or Heimdall. Doesn't matter.
1a. Put the appropriate cm9 files in your SD card. (Gapps, ROM)
2. Flash semaphore or devil kernel .tar files under pda in Odin. Not sure about heimdall sorry!
Note: Please note that recovery is packaged with the kernel on this ROM, so flashing a kernel changes your cwm as well.
3. Now, you phone won't boot, no big deal. All we need is the recovery. Reboot into recovery and flash the cm9 file.
4. Now wipe data / factory reset
5. Reboot, Rejoice, enjoy

flash semaphore kernel with odin
then flash cm from here download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=galaxysmtd&type=stable

So I did wipe data and wipe cache in system recovery but it didnt solve the problem. Then I flash over Odin official firmware but still booting takes about 30minutes and all apps are crashing. I tried to flash three files rom via odin too but it didnt help. So please help, i really dont know what to do now, i tried everything
Phone is non-rooted, there is official 2.3.6 but all is crashing so it is unusable.

yes you can, use odin and the download menu of the phone (turn it of, then turn it on and press volume down + home + power buttom for a few sec)
there are a few guids in this forum how to do that, just search for it
