[Q] Samsung galaxy Note N7000 or i717? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
I have been in the market for a Samsung galaxy note for a while now. I wanted to get the unlocked version of the phone since I am with T-Mobile. Now as I researched a little more about the phone I came to know there are two different versions which are N-7000 and i-717. Also as i came to find out the N-7000 version does not support T-mobile 4g. Most of my other research also came up with a result that everyone recommend N-7000 version over i-717 because of the processor. I personally like the N-7000 because of the center home button.
I came up with this thread where it flash's the radio of the note and I was being told by one of my friend that this will allow you to be able to use it with t-mobile 4g.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1518962
As it says its only for att galaxy note so I am assuming this will not work with the international version of the note or the N-7000 version.
My job requires me to stay on the road most of the time and its really important I have high speed internet on the phone. I am from fort lauderdale, florida.
So my question is-
1. Which version of the phone should I buy?
2. The link posted above will this work with N-7000?
3. Is there any way to work the N-7000 with T-mobile 4g by flashing the radio or anything else?
4. If yes, can any of you please post a step by step instruction on how to make it work. If possible please be elaborate with your steps as I am super dumb when it comes to do hacking and all that.
5. Will the new N-7000 comes with ICS? Does that require any special thing to be done with the phone in order to work with the T-mobile 4g?
I really appreciate all your help in advance. I would be really honored if you guys can respond back as soon as possible.
Thanks
TASVIR

if your job requires fast internet, you should conclude your research and get the i717. The international note won't fit your life style. At this time, it will NOT support tmobile 4g.

Thanks.
But the i717 requires the flashing of the radio and unlocking as well to work with t-mobile 4g? Just like my link on the post mentioned?

you can unlock i717 by buying code online for $25 and about 10mins of time researching and flashing it. It's really easy. I've had i717 for tmobile myself and found out that i dont' need all the time internet. sold it...and got the n7000

So you had i-717 and then you sold it and got the n7000. If you dont mind me asking what made you switch? Is the phone is not worth all this? I am assuming now you are using the n7000 for tmobile's 3g? Hows the speed on that? if the speed is okay would you recommend n7000 over i717 based on the processors of the phones? does your n7000 required any rooting work with tmobile and its internet?

Have you looked around to see if T-Mobile is or will be offering 1900MHz HSDPA+ in your area? The N7000 supports 1900MHz on it's '3G' radio.

I just checked yes they do have 1900MHz in flortlauderdale. FL
Does this means the galaxy note N-7000 will work with t-mobile 3g as soon as I put the sim in the phone?
also
samsung-sgh-i717r-galaxy-note-lte-rogers-wireless from canada and at expansys they are selling it unlocked for 489$
Is this the same as the att galaxy note? with the root will it work with t mobile and its 4g network? I only ask cause this is cheaper than the att version of the note and it is Gnote SGH-i717R instead of Gnote SFH-i717.
This phone is driving me crazier than my ex-girlfriend.

I sold my i717 because I travel a lot oversea and I don't need the LTE feature. I sacrificed that for the better processor and smoothness. Also, I am around wifi most of the time...and I don't use much of internet when I am on the road. Speed wise, it's decent for my use....regular internet, email...and so forth. Not fast...but doable. It fits my life style better. Like I said, you've mentioned that you're on the road a lot that require fast internet access, so I suggested i717. As far as the 1900mhz in your area, don't count on it......you will need to experience it. Call tmobile and find out, or get 1900mhz phone and test it. heck you can even buy the n7000 and try....and if it doesn't work out, sell it and buy the at&t.

Thanks yellowpad. I saw a video on the snapdragon and exynos processor. Bit scary. If with high internet speed does not work because of the processor that would such a shame. I will get the N-7000 and try. I called t-mobile and found out they support 1900 in my area. Its a hit or miss situation. Would you reccomend any site to buy it from? I tried calling expansys for million times as they dont pick up the phone and they say they are #1 in customer satisfaction. LOL

I would just wait a month for the Tmobile version, I believe its coming out the first week of july. unless you dont care about data speeds, then get whatever, but I'd rather wait a few more days and have a fully compatible device in my hands, just my humble input!

As far as i know they have different CPUs and N7000 is supposed to handle hd videos and 3d graphics better. Also, N7000 seems to have better support over here simply because it's more popular.

Thanks for your input. You know I have been researching on that as well from last night. They are saying its coming out on the 11th of July. May be before that or after. Fully compatible with T-mobile network. I would wait for that before I get mine. Only thing that scares me is if it comes with the snapdragon processor. Which is a joke over exynos processor. You can go to youtube and check some of the video's of the differences.
Samsung also said to expect snapdragon processor on all the US bound phones. So at this point i guess we only have to keep our fingers crossed and wait for the best.

Yah the N-7000 comes with exynos processor and i-717 (ATT Version) comes with snapdragon. N-7000 has better processor but low speed data and ATT is high speed data but a very slow and unsophisticated processor (if you compare with the N-7000)... its just up to the customer if they would sacrifices data over processor?? In my case I WANT BOTH...

Does Samsung GT-N7000 (International) work with Tmobile USA 4G?
Hi guys,
So far I have a been reading around and not really find an exact answer.
Let me ask some questions one more time.
1. Can Samsung GT-N7000 (International Version) be flash with Tmobile radio 4G to make it work with Tmobile USA 4G?
2. Anyone using a Working Samsung N7000 flashed Tmobile Radio 4G? If so, which area of USA?
Someone please be kind and advice.
Thanks in advance

Which gTab? Carrrier thoughts please...

Getting my GF a tablet and have kinda ruled out the Ipad because we both don't like Apple and iTunes. I;m experienced with Android and thats what I want to get her. I bought the NookColor and rooted it and all that, but it's going back. It's just not a viable solution for someone not too technical and wants to just pick something up and use it. Mainly because of the lacking hard buttons and no 3g is really the deal breaker now. The gTab seems perfect because of 3g and simple to use. I thought they were all the same until I started reading and it seems as if Tmobile is a bad idea unless you want unlimited data without a contract. So let me get to the needs: minimal data on a month to month plan. I prefer to pay out front and not be under contract. So which carriers Gtab is for her? Or should I wait for something else? BTW I don't like playing the waiting game because you just end up waiting and waiting. She's perfectly fine using a device for years where as I need the latest, greatest.
Thanks in advance.

I guess any of ATT or tmobile will be good. Because if u want to resale it (after few month ) you can unlock it and sell it on nice price and also gsm is acceptable in other countries too. can be used to make calls and receive calls too(dont know about sprint and verizon cdma tabs).
I guess tmobile plans are cheaper than att.
I have tmobile but i dont have data plan because i dont need it. I bought my on local craiglist.
For light no contract 3G, I think AT&T is the cheapest easy option at $15/mo.
The AT&T GT also has the "option" of easy unlocking, then getting a Tmo prepaid SIM and using Tmo's DayPass for $1.50/day, EDGE only, but for very light, day by day, its a cheap alternative.
NB you cannot do that with a Tmo GT since Tmo has blocked its own GT's from using the prepaid DayPass.
Another fringe idea is Sprint's GT, hacked to run on Boost Mobile, $0.35/day for data, but far more complicated to do the hacking.
Do not get the Verizon tab under any circumstances.
At&t will let you have the complete tab and phone experience. And it travels overseas better.
While I have and love the AT&T Tab, I'll throw a wrench in here and say that Spacemoose is going to bat for the CDMA Tabs with HC! I'd give the edge to GSM, but not a big deal as I use mine with Wi-Fi only.

please amplify... why not?
- not GSM, no ROMs? no SIMs? no int'l usage?
- no 2.3.4 update unlike Sprint?
what else?

- No GB upgrade -- and knowing VZ, it will be practically never when we get it
- CDMA generally behind the GSM curve in terms of carrier upgrades
- More development on the GSM front

Sure GSM tab is getting more ROMs, but the only official GB upgrade in the US now is Sprint CDMA and that works on Verizon's tab.

Galaxy Note on T-Mobile USA?

I have T-Mobile and am in US.... I really am interested in the Galaxy note and am wondering if it is compatible with T-Mobile's 3G/"4G"/HSPA+ network? I don't know what these frequency bands mean for compatibility ...
It will only work on EDGE speeds. It doesn't have the AWS frequency (1700, 2100) required for their 3G/4G network.

Thank you very much!
interestingly, many sites point to the India specific version of the phone being a "penta band" UMTS phone. and as far as i know penta band means T-Mo AWS support no?

Hello all,
This is interesting. Is there anyways to confirm that Indian version will have "Penta" band?
I read that Note will launch in India on 3nd November. May be will have to wait to find out.

I'm having doubts about that article, SGSII was 34k when it was released in India. Galaxy Note has to top that.

i can't find anything to suggest any carrier in India uses the 1700/2100 bands needed for T-Mo (US) 3G to work anyway. so it must be about something else.

There are many bands for UTMS, and t-mobile USA is the only one that uses 1700.
Odds are, even if it is pentaband, it still won't support 1700. It might, but it's unlikely.

what about the modem.bin from the galaxy s2 4g on the tmobile phone
I've been researching a bit and it seems that the files are about the same on these phones, so I don't see why it wouldn't work. That being said, I am in no way an expert, but I hope someone with more knowledge will chime in on this and give us a concrete answer.

phone frequency band is hardware specific. if the crystal is not tuned for the frequency, theres nothing you can do to make the phone to accept it
I guess I'll have to wait on the Galaxy Nexus then. Thanks for dropping that bit of knowledge on us.

You will only get Edge speeds.
There is no need to confirm anything.
Hardware IS HARDWARE.
I would not consider getting T-Mobile's version of this for the sole fact that they'll mess it up by putting a pair of 1.8 ghz Qualcomm chip in there to support their 42mbps network.
It will be garbage once that happens.
At this point, you either accept it as being Edge only on T-Mobile's network, or you don't get it altogether.
Yeah I know it only works on edge but if a million iphone users are using it then it might be usable but I kinda want a real world test of the Internet and not just specs since that's the only thing that's holding me back

You could ditch T-Mob, or not worth it? I would leave my carrier for the Note.
I made an inquiry about the Note coming to T mobile directly to someone I know at Samsung. He did get back to me and said they have figured a way around the present problem with the present chip configuration and will come out with a version that will be 1700/2100 compatible. BUT, not soon (2012) and probably will be the next version of this type of 5" + smart phone ....... So it is edge only on TMO for now..............
By the time they actually get to bring something like that out the quad core chips will be out and other makers might bring out something similar hopefully.
Howdy all?
Currently I am using Dell Streak which actually was launched for AT&T. So I was only getting TMo's EDGE speed on my Streak. Which for me was not a big deal because I would only have to deal with slow speed while I am either away from home or work.
Some might find it silly, but what I did was, removed my data portion which was with the phone and actually got TMo's 4g hotspot. And I carried both, my Streak and hotspot always with me. Which for me works out alright.

Coverage on AT&T and T-mo

Hi everybody,
I was wondering if someone can tell me if unlocked unbranded Note gets 3G/ "4G" coverage on AT&T? I've read on amazon that its only EDGE on T-mo
Due to carrier IQ, I don't wanna get a branded Note...
Thanks,

I will switch to AT&T~
Samsung has just given another Note to the FCC, this time it has the ability to use LTE, what I don't know is if they will be selling this version unlocked.
^ this is correct. Its worth mentioning that the US note will have 4 soft touch buttons across the bottom and no solid "clicky" home button. On the not, its VERY nice to be able to turn on via the middle home button vs reach for the side.
Can someone with this phone on t-mobile try a speedtest anyway and tell me whats your speed with the EDGE?
180 kb (23Kb) down 130 (16.3 Kb) up. That's about as good as it gets for edge.

I know, and this is what's causing my dillemma.
It definitely will have a different chip as the 1.4Ghz Exynos doesn't do 4G/LTE and you know AT&T will insist on it having that ability.
Question is, will it be a slower Qualcomm or will it be the 1.5Ghz Exynos which I doubt as I don't think it's ready but man would that be sweet. This is all I'm waiting on before I hit the submit button.
If AT&T (or whoever gets it first in the US) announce a release and I see it has the Qualcomm chip, I'll be running to the nearest lowest priced online vendor and snapping up one with a 1.4Ghz Exynos cause I don't care about 4G/LTE right now.
IOW I'd prefer the device with the fastest chip possible as opposed to having 4G/LTE ability, it's not even available in my area (Central Florida, east coast) and for the most part I'm in a Wifi environment.

Should I trade N7000 for BNIB t-mobile One s

I love my n7000 its a fantastic phone alot of development its awesome. on tmobile I only get 2G speeds. since I love my N7000 ive tolerated it. I know a guy that on the April25th that is gonna get a BNIB One s and wants to trade. at first I was a little skeptical because of the snapdragon. after reading all the reviews and watching the videos, even with the snapdragon it seems like a pretty great phone. it would be great cause then I could actually get 4g. then again the screen is smaller not HD and no S pen. I thought about the one x but that would only be 2g too, im thinking hard what do you guys think?

If you love the Gnote and want T mobile LTE, you can buy the ATT version and then flash a a radio which supports T mobile 3g on it. The ATT Gnote (i717) is 550 without contract, and you should be able to get most of your money back if you sell your N7000. That way you still have your beloved Gnote, and it works on T mobile 3g (and 4g too)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1547114
Or you can do what I did and ditch Tmo and get straight talk. I did this coming from T mobile and knowing that the ATT Gnote would support the 1700 mhz band by reading spec sheets. As you may be able to tell, I decided to go with the international version.
Are you sure you aren't in an area that is getting 1900 mhz tmo 3g soon? Mostly west coast, midwest. (also philly).
I don't really see why you would trade someone your Gnote for the One. It's like in chess- if your opponent offers up a piece for an exchange, it is almost always not a good idea to go for it. It means that they have some reason that they want to trade with you.
Hmmm I may look into straight talk. I actually had the atet note before this one and switched to the n7000 cause its much better. So no atet note for me lol.

There will be a flashable mod shortly.
I have already heard someone speaking of it.
With that said, you must know that no matter what you do to the phone it is not possible at this point to get proper carrier aggregation in the USA.
This means that it will work but you will always get slower downloads and sometimes data drops when compared to a USA based SD variant.
We extensively spent months trying to figure this out with the Note 8 and then the S9.
Just giving you a heads up in case that mattered to you.
In case you wanted to test this. Try using any semi recent USA based phone like a N920T or a N950U etc and compare the speeds in the same spot.
You will see what I mean.

Ya I was there with you when I got the Note 8 and then the S9 but....
I also would rather have the full speed and optimized net, especially because I use it for work and other things.
What do you mean "Mod my internet".
To me the addition of "package disabler" made not having root hurt a little less.
