General ICS discussion - HTC Incredible S

So the news is all over the place by now, today is the day ICS ruu's are rolling out in mainland China. People are freaking out and Google translate has never been used so much by members of the Xda IncS forums.
So I decided to create this thread as a general place to talk about new updates, expectations, let downs, and anything else ICS related.
It has been a long time coming (6 months or so) but it's finally starting to roll out. We await the n00bs, the new devs, the "Help!!!! I bricked my phone!" Threads, the daily flashing of CM Nightlies, user mods, and the generally missed rush of traffic here on the IncS boards.
The wait is over.
Discuss.

Good Idea, I will repost the important info I posted elsewhere:
I have found someone who is downloading the s710e update, but it is going very slowly. Probably will be tomorrow before you guys can get your hands on any ROM's but I will keep an eye on it, as soon as a file appears I will get to work!
BTW, there is an easy way to tell the difference:
The CDMA version is 4.08.1401.3 (348.1MB)
The version we want is 4.08.1400.2 (and is only 251.26MB)
And it is Sense 3.6, despite the filename saying Sense 3.5
IMPORTANT
If an image (RUU, .exe or P32IMG) appears, and you aren't planning to use it for dev or creating a mirror, then please don't download it. You won't be able to do anything with it, and it will just suck up bandwidth and slow down those who can make use of it!

The Desire S has a leaked 4.0.4, the s710d has 4.0.3.
What Version of Android will get the IncS? I hope it's 4.0.4, i can wait 1 week more for this.

3.6

Once we have the files it will be no problem for devs to keep us up to date. I strongly suggest that if anyone plans on rooting their phone to do it now as it is likely that the new ruu will come with an updated h-boot which will take time to learn how to circumvent s-off.

But i dont really want to root and s-off my phone, it runs good at the moment...

How could you not... generally they start with a stable version and increase functionality with every nightly build decreasing the wait time for experienced users between stable builds. As you can see I'm still on 146 and I've been waiting ever since

I highly doubt it will be any time soon and it wont be till after Europe is done getting it. But you never know, your best bet is to phone HTC or bell to get an eta.

So for the first time ICS updates are becoming Asia-centric. Can we expect Taiwan, Singapore & India to get the next updates? Or will they switch to EU, as usual?

I think the updates roll out in a geographic circle starting in Asia but I could be wrong.

I guess if there is kernel source, then it's possible to create a universal ROM. Right?

June release for Bell ICS?

So according to the MobileSyrup homepage its looking like us Canadians have to wait till June to see an official update on our Raiders. No word on Rogers though. Just brutal I tell ya!
links? i hope that this is true and not just a rumor

This shouldn't be a surprise. I'm actually ridiculously surprised that ATT delivered on the March date and didn't wait till the One series dropped.
Corporate marketing at its finest.
Why are they doing this to us?
Why do canadians have to wait so long to get software that is already available in the US and Australia?
And how did the release date go from March to June? that's an extension of 2 months!
Is it possible to get CM9 on the Raider Yet?
I need some ICS!!!!
Omg really?? Wow my excitement level just went from nine and a half, to zero. You know what this means..us Canadians need a new gb rom to play with in the meantime. Imagine if all the devs got together over one final gb rom?? LOL..cmon guys.. I know ur all reading this..

Has anyone been able to edit the android-info.txt inside the ph39Img.zip?
If we can just change the model id to ph3915000 and the cid to Roger001,bm____01 then we could use the vivid ics. I tried but I couldn't get the zip to save properly. Please, any advice? It would be appreciated.

Don't know any of this for sure, but here are my thoughts on that..
1) I'm thinking that would break the signature of the PH39IMG, which wouldn't let it flash on a locked bootloader anyway (not to mention I don't think it's that simple)
2) If it did work, wouldn't this write an ATT radio to your device, which could bork a few things. And without s-off and the ability to flash different radios, could lead to some real issues.

No one will ever can do that until we have S-OFF. If you change anything inside the signed zip, this will become unsigned and for flash a unsigned zip you need S-OFF.

Thought so
This is both good and bad news at the same time.
I'm just happy that they actually have a scheduled date for the official release instead of the "sometime in 2012" which could've meant Dec 31, 2012.
The bad news is that it's another 2 months.
Considering the device came out only in Nov of 2011, I'm am looking forward to the update so "soon".
I'm actually quite happy running the stock rom and everything has been pretty rock solid.
mobilesyrup guys had a post about bell internal document which earlier talked about March release, almost the same way as now. So the promise is as good as last one...
But this time I hope they actually release it before that date.
Saw it on TechnoBuffalo too, seems legit.

I read this some days ago somewhere else but i dont know if its true but....it depends on your CID and IMEI number. It doesent matter where you are or what kind of SIM card you use. I guess every IncS all over the world is checking the same servers for OTA update.

I always rely on custom Rom from this site. Never for OTA...
From what I understood of the recent Vodafone ICS update for the Sensation XL, they tweak the install and then give it back to HTC for distribution. All updates are reputedly deployed from HTC servers and it is dependent on the IMEI as to which update you receive and when. This may all be utter bolllox but that's the way I understood it from the Vodafone info they gave out.
already we updated around the world bye nik

Hi Guys
Got sick of waiting so went ahead and installed Nik_Aura_Rebirth_sense4a on my Incredible S and let me just say its awesome! It runs the HTC One V rom so it has the cut down version of the full Sense 4 which i think is better than what HTC is going to give us with the update which will actually run 3.6!
Its fast and smooth and looks awesome! Why wait for the official update when you can get a better version now!!
Best of all is no bloatware from Optus!!!

We'll have to wait a while longer. Even the AT&T hasn't gotten an RUU yet, and their device is identical to the GPe.
Ours is slightly different. The GPe ROM will have to be ported to our device.
And it's best not to ask for when it'll come or if it's here yet. Don't pressure our awesome devs!

The short answer is that the One GPe is basically the AT&T variant of the One and not the Srint One, so the source is not for our phone.

Alright buddy , I thought I was the only one having this problem , thanks :good::fingers-crossed:
I suppose most of us have the HK version of the phone, which is why we got our update already. In other countries where the phone is sold officially, updates may be delayed a bit.
If you want the update ahead of time, you can always grab the updated dump of the stock ROM, but that would most probably mean unlocking the bootloader.
