[Q] Unwanted application running - LG Optimus 2x

I noticed that some applications keep running on background despite how many times i kill them. Worst is the Facebook that with Facebook Messenger and Facebook camera take a lot of ram or some games that keep auto-running. Is there any way to stop it?
I freeze this application and unfreeze them when i want to use them but isn't there a way to make this easier since our device gets pretty slow when a lot of ram is reserved. Would a RamHack help? I've read that auto-kill application aren't a very good idea. I am using etana kernel and have as LMK Mode str, should i change it to aggr or extr? What would be the loss and what the gain?

Jus leave it... these apps r persistent.
Killing it will only restart again.
Dun use any killapps, it may lead to bsod
Ramhack 32 or Max 48 to keep all function working.

[Q] How to have more free memory

Hi guys thanks for your time, so this is my doubt
When i turn on my phone i have 170 MB available memory but after a while down to 70 MB sometimes to 40 MB, what should i install to have more than 100 MB free?? i already have [email protected] 256Hz #97 Kernel and 2.2.1 XXJPY firmware.
thanks
regards
Usually this won't matter because with the Android OS, it will usually keep all the stuff you close (internet, contacts, recently accessed menus etc) cached in it's RAM as a non active application until you happen to tab into it again, thus instantly loading.
Android is also smart enough to know since the application is inactive, if it's eating your memory, it will force-close these applications to free up memory for the new applications. ie, I'm running internet, close it, and my memory is up to 280mb, then try to run AngryBirds and it will close the Internet app + others if it has to.
So... usually not an issue, but if it does become an issue you can run a service/task killer app that will handle all nonactive apps and terminate them. Or you can just clear level 1+2 ram periodically and it will reset it back to default until it starts filling with crap again.
Ok i have advanced task killer but i was reading in some topics in this forum that some guys have more than 150 MB free without using a task killer
Advanced task killer eats your battery
android doesn't need a task killer, as it kills tasks itself.. i don't know why there are so many out there they just eat up battery..
one app I would suggest is 'auto-killer' its free and I have mine set to aggressive. that's all you need to do then forget about it.. it keeps your memory from getting bogged down.
ok thanks for the tips

[q] best autorun task killer

Please tell my which is best software that stops applications to run automatically at startup
tell me the application which works
no one is using any app. to stop unnecessary start up of tasks
try autostarts its very good

Ditto on Autostarts. Also, Autokiller Memory Optimzer works really well, it doesn't kill tasks itself, it tweaks the Android function thar does it to work better.
auto killer mem optimizer workd well for me.but now i simply don use any of those batt saving app,mem apps etc i jus kill apps in inbuilt task killer...iam using my phone to the peek cause at the end ill b getting a 2ghz dual core by selling sgs.......cant stick to old things lol........cheeerz

+1 Autostarts. It amazes me what runs on the phone after start-up, after you switch states or update apps. The perfect cure for batt draining nonsense

Google it. Android is Linux based. Its memory management is not the same as Windows. I'd explain further, but you're the 4,753,857,195 person to ask.
I spent 10s and googled it for you. Here's a quick link that explains it in simple terms.
http://lifehacker.com/5650894/andro...ed-what-they-do-and-why-you-shouldnt-use-them
Basically having applications in RAM is a GOOD thing. Constantly killing them is likely to WORSEN PERFORMANCE AND BATTERY LIFE.

That's right. On the other hand - permitting almost every app to load at startup isn't the best approach, as you will soon run out of memory - therefore using apps like autostart makes sense imho. But constantly killing everything isn't the right approach either. Android removes "old" apps automatically.
Bottom line:
- just letting those apps load at startup, which you use on regular basis, is fine
- using a "ram tweaker", auto-kill app, etc. is not
Kind regards,

And when you run out of memory, Android will free memory by automatically killing cached (unused) apps. Therefore, I don't see the point of stopping apps from running at start--unless they're actually doing something in the background and not letting your phone sleep.
RAM tweaks (or memory management), on the other hand, is the only thing I use. I adjust OOM settings to adjust which apps Android closes to free memory, as well as how much free RAM Android should keep open in various situations.

Well actually I don't see the point that an app, that I hardly use once per month should be loaded everytime I start the phone or change my internet connection. Also more apps at startup increase the time when the phone is available...
But on the other hand, you are certainly right, after a while, only the latest apps are still in background / memory. What I have recognized nevertheless: if you use a lot of apps with push functionality and load on startup, the phone runs out of memory...

Apps Performance issue

Hello evry one. I have problem in my captivate and other models of android. I installed almost every custom rom but problem of loading apps fast still exist. What i mean is.. that when i on my mobile, so first time apps like calender, messenging etc take a little time to load. than when i close the app and open again, it loads very quickly. When mobile goes to standby for more than 10 mins, and when i on it, it again take little time to load apps, and widget menu etc.
Why it is like that ??? and whats the solution to always load the apps quickly

It's how Android manages memory. It keeps your apps in memory until it needs to free some, at which point it starts to close apps to free some up. If they're already in memory they open fast because they're already open. If they aren't, they open more slowly.
There's not a ton you can do, really. Some 3rd party sms apps let you lock the app in memory, but I honestly never checked to see if it really works or not.
Personally, I restart my phone every morning when I wake up. This frees up the most memory and allows your phone to leave more apps open before closing them.
make sure you arent running any ****ty task killers.
You could flash an I9000 ROM/kernel that let's you tweak the lmk. (low memory killer)
Talon and semaphore both offer that option.
The trick is to make it weak enough to not kill the apps you want, but aggressive enough to not allow to run out of ram completely.
both of those kernels also have a "bigmem" version that gives the user a bit more ram at the cost of being able to record video in 720p.

I like ur answrr. But can u pls guide me abt lmk. I like this idea but never use such tweaks. I m using talon kernel right now and rom is much fast. But have same prb of apps loading
In the app memory freak, that installed with the kernel, there is a slider for you to adjust,
lower number the more aggressive the lmk but the better the overall performance.
Higher number is less aggressive and is better for multitasking, but can be a bit slower.

Where to find app memory freak ? i haven't seen any option in CWM
Should have been installed when you flashed talon. If not, it should be linked in the talon op.

Dropping performance

After flashing a rom onto my LG P990 it works flawlessly-everything is nuttery smooth, fast and reliable but after some uptime and few days of using it suddenly starts to lag. It really pisses me off since P990 is quite powerfull when it comes to specs but my friends Galaxy S somehow maintains it's performance.
So the question is how to make sure that my phone will not reduce it's performance so drastically over time?
I'm runnig latest Temasek's KANG and ETaNa's latest beta kernel with 1,4GHz OC.
Do you have alot of apps installed?
Try to see how much RAM usage you have on boot and after it starts to drop performance.
Yeah I read somewhere that there is a memory leak problem with the o2x...restart your phone once in 3 days..things should be fine
Rebooting doesn't help. If it did I would assume that it's simply because an app/apps is causing the drop and then I would try to find it. I do have a lot of apps on my phone but most of them shouldn't be running by themselves in the backgroud (mostly games and such).
I have same problem (on ICS ROMs). After flash, everything is fast, after few days....I have to wait for call for 30 sec....horrible...
I have noticed that problem witch made me a flashaholic .. you could begin with deleting facebook app, messenger and google plus (drainers) then dl rom manager and set in on hard gaming , worked ok for me
Sent from my LG-P990 using xda app-developers app
Also I have a major USB issue. Almost always after turning off storage mode the phone just hangs and I have to remove the battery to restart it. Sometimes it even reboots by itself while transfering files.
Memory leak... If this problem annoys you flash a stock froyo rom or cm based rom..
Have been using CM7 for probably 12 months, but the performance in the last few weeks seems to have got much worse....
i think it could be a baseband issue...I am ...during the verification of the existing problem ...
Since rebooting and installing the tweakaio.zip with lagfree patch for my kernel everything seems better. Not freshly-flashed good but much better.
I don't have any problems with my O2X. It runs buttery-smooth even after two weeks without rebooting. However, the internal IO does get pretty slow after a while. It's nothing too dramatic though.
Heres my recommendation;
Latest Temasek ROM & Kernel
Use the built-in ramhack (this really helps alot!)
Using TitaniumBackup, freeze un-needed apps or uninstall them (be careful with this, make backups. This is mainly meant for system apps that you don't need, i.e. Car Home so they won't fill up your RAM unnecessarily)
Using Autorun Manager just prevent most apps from auto-starting themselves.
Optional; let a task manager kill apps for you periodically. I always read that it's not good to use task managers but I never seem to have any problems with them. I've got 200MB RAM free all the time, even after several days of usage. To prevent killing specific apps just add them to the ignore list of your task manager.
You could also use the lagfree + dalvik cache fix by tonyp and adjust the LMK values.
This setup is working perfectly fine for me, just try it out yourself.
Edit: I also have to note that I don't have many apps installed. Just the things that I really need such as AlarmDroid, the XDA Premium App (!), PimpMyCpu, etc.

I never listen to music on my phone so I can't help you out with that. Try a different kernel?

[Q] Trouble with RAM management?

I got my Xperia Z1 about a month ago, and I've noticed some issues with RAM management (or possibly under-optimized third-party apps). Although I haven't had much luck in replicating the problem, I noticed it happen a few times after a Firefox internet session, or after playing a graphically intensive game like Dead Trigger 2. The app would either close by itself (not crash, as in, there were no error messages), or, after I'd close it, I'd notice my launcher (Nova Launcher Prime) go into a restart loop. A quick glance at the running apps section in settings shows 50-100 MB of free ram, and all "constantly running" apps (launcher, viber, zooper widget, k9-mail, swiftkey, tasker, etc.) stuck, for want of a better phrase, in a restarting loop (due to lack of ram I guess).
I tried running Fast Reboot (a task killer) to see if I could regain stability of the system, but it kills only a few system tasks, freeing up to a measly 50 MB of RAM, which makes me wonder (in aggravation) just where the RAM is being used. The only way the running apps would stop closing and restarting (and I need the launcher stable) is to reboot. I'm not sure if the system would stabilize after x minutes, as I only waited for a minute or two before rebooting so that I could open another app/game.
I'm not trying to start yet another debate on necessity of used RAM on Android and efficiency/futility of task managers/killers, but what I described above really seems like poor RAM management to me. I've had a few android devices in the past, and experienced various problems /errors, but never something like this.
Has anybody had a similar issue, or have any tips?
My Xperia Z1 C6903 is currently running on rooted stock 14.2.A.0.290
Although i dont get force closes, but ive noticed most of the ram is taken by the phone itself, right now for me it says i have 1.1gb in use, when i close everything i have just a slight (barely even noticeable) increase in free ram, when i click on cached processes and close all one by one ive seen it increases the ram use instead of decreasing it?
But, do you use apps like setcpu? You can keep it on performance and keep the min slider to the lowest and the max slider to max, it runs stable and gives you performance when you need it, and no performance when you dont need it.
If all fails, try deleting system apps that you barely even use or need... Becareful what you delete tho!

Thanks for the reply. No, I've used apps like that in the past, but haven't installed anything similar on the Z1, because I noticed in BetterBatteryStats that the CPU speed goes down often when the screen is off, and up when, I suppose, it's required, such as in intensive games...
What apps do you use? For example facebook, YouTube, browser etc
Ive checked again on my cached apps and to my surprise, AOSP browser takes up 208mb!
Facebook takes up 48mb, and youtube takes up 22mb.
It just depends on the apps you have installed, some use the ram even while the phone is asleep.
Ive stopped those and a huge difference was made on freeing up my ram!
What i dont get is tho why sony advertises 2.2ghz quadcore if the phone itself takes most of it?
Just delete the apps you dont need from "all apps".
