I decide to root my phone accroding to Dr. Ketan.
I thought this phone is non directable ROM.

When I was done this instruction there are two bugs.
one is typing error "null, null" and the other is brick whenever turn off the display.
But I flashed Chrack's ICS XXLPY V4 directly.
Check this as the below.

# Download small v4 (332MB): Chrack_XXLPY_small_xda_v4.zip
# MD5 Hash: 8DDC1C4DDEC2FAE19A6B838A15660888

From the small Version i deleted some Apps.
The Apps can you download here:
Download lite Apps (301MB): lite apps xxlpy.zip

Instruction
a) coming from a rooted GB-ROM:
- download Abyss Kernel 4.2 from here: http://www.mediafire.com/?c65mndvpk6ocbaa
- put zip-file on your USB-storage
- boot in Recovery
- Flash Abyss Kernel 4.2!!!
- boot back in recovery (you find this option under 'advanced')
- FullWipe
- Flash ROM
- reboot system
- ...you are done
==> there have been reported problems with a constantly rebooting system when doing installation coming from a GB-ROM as posted above! So the safe and 100% successful way is installing LPY Stock-ROM, root Stock ROM and then go on as described below under point b2). Do not ask for a tutorial on how to install and root LPY Stock ROM....it is describe enough here in Forum!

There will be some bugs during installation.
But you can do it because I already succeed to root and flash ICS.

k. am downgrading Firmware to KL3 , and i need procedure. but mainly it should not effect binary counter.
It's not possible to root LA4 directly at the moment, so you'll need to downgrade your device first:
- Download a firmware that's rootable from here.
- Download Odin from the link provided above
- Enter "Download Mode" on your device by shutting your Note completely off, then press and hold Volume Down + Home button + Power button
- Start Odin
- Unzip the firmware (the zip file you just downloaded), and you'll end up with a md5-file
- Go to Odin and click "PDA" and choose the md5-file
- Press "Start"
- Wait
- Done
Now you can root the device and get CWM, so go to this thread and do the "I Want ROOT + CWM" at the end of the first post.
- After you're rooted download LA4 again from the first link in this post
- Transfer it to your Note
- Open CWM on your Note
- Flash it
Done. You now have a rooted LA4.

No it won't.
Just make 1 thing clear. binary count raise only, If you flash any custom ROM/Kernel with PC Odin.
Follow LordManhattan's advise and still once refer Installation guide in detail in post #2 n 3 of this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
Just to add, Downgrade Firmware shud be direct rootable. (before KL7), N if particularly i specify, I can say Downgrade first to indian ROM KL1, I have flashed this ROM in at least 5 Notes.
That means Flashing Custom ROM using CWM doesn't effect Binary Count rite??
if you flash using CWM or mobile odin it wont if you do using oding from PC it will still not sure about official firmware

Yep, this is what I did after going through Dr. Ketans post. I now have rooted LA4 , but my CWM app and recovery is only partial. I do not have option to do backup/restore on CWM on LA4. Is it a universal problem? Any ideas?

Hey,
Dr.Ketan, can you tell me please if there is a chance to root the original LA4 (never changed rom) if I don't have access to a Windows and only to a Mac?
I only want to root it for the basic tweaks and apps. Don't need a custom rom at the moment. I want to root it and use it as is while I wait for the official ICS.
Thanks.
There is no Queston of window or Mac,LA4 is non rootable, to get root, first u need to downgrade older rom.

Thanks. I got ahead of the events. I didn't meant that. I meant if I can do the procedure of downgrading and everything I might need to do in order to root or to install a custom rom or another stock using ONLY my Samsung Note and a Mac.
Q1: I can downgrade using a exclusively a Mac with Lion on it?
Q2: If the answer to Q1 is affirmative, can I root it after downgrade also using only Lion on Mac?
Thanks again!
I have never heard mac pc odin. Plz google for it. So without pc odin you cant downgrade.
Yes there was review i read, got root with mac. You just read my thread how to root...(u may find from my signature), i remember i have post a link somwhere, how to root using mac.

Yes, I saw there was one root with mac solution, but works only if the Note is rootable. LA4 is not. So I must downgrade first. )))))
Nevermind, I'll try to do it with Windows, somehow. Thanks!
I am also new to this, and this thread is very clear. The bit I do not understand is what Kernal I should be running. Custom roms available can have a variety of kernals e.g LA3, LA4 etc. Do i have to choose a rom that has a kernal compatible with my phone? is there some rational to running one kernal vs another? I notice that it may be possible to flash a rom and keep a previous kernal e.g a CF kernal. is this advisable? your advice would be very welcome.
You don't need to flash a new kernel. Most of the custom ROMs includes a custom kernel that's good enough, but if you're interested in testing a few of them then you can do it without any problems.

Now is when I am lost. I did all the above (thanks, by the way) and I run KKA now. I had LA4 (Germany) when bought it, then downgraded to root.
Now I am rooted but when I try to update firmware with CWM, nothing happens. I have to put the ZIP in the Note or the MD5? I tried with the MD5 two times.
Is there something I do wrong? Is any other method apart from CWM? I mention that when I downgraded and first booted, CWM said something about "not being compatible and some functions were disabled".
Any ideas?
EDIT:
I couldn't work it out as expected and I went back to my original LA4 (Germany).

[Q] CWM Problem

Hi,
I had DDLB2 Kernel first and I downgrade it to KJ1 as mentioned here by dr.ketan for rooting my GNote. Then I install Mobile ODIN and upgrade my kernel back to DDLB2 (as mentioned in dr.ketan's post).
my problem is when I launch CWM now, It shows me a popup saying that I need to have a newer version of CWM(Now it's V3.x). But I can't find any CF-Root+CWM related to DDLB2.
Please help...
LB2 is not directly Rootable . so only CWM can be installed on current LB2 kernel. if you want install CF-Root + CWM V5+ then you have to downgrade kernel to below KL3.
i have KL3. but i cant load CWM onto it. I have root. Please help.

You need to flash a stock Gingerbread rom from PC Odin. Then you can either wait for an official OTA update in your region, or download and flash the German ICS update that's been posted in the general section. Flash that through PC Odin. To get root, flash the LPY CF-Kernel that's in the development section. Flash the kernel through mobile odin. The lite version will work as you don't have root already and you don't need the everroot option. But I suggest you support the developer of that app, and buy the pro version, who gave you the rooted kernel in the first place
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646023
What I recommend, based on what I did:
- Download the leaked German official ROM (about 600-700Mb), .tar.md5 file and put into your phone's sd-card.
- Install Mobile Odin Pro from Play Store (need to pay. there's free version too, but I suggest you pay for Pro, safer).
- In M. Odin, open the .tar.md5 file, and press flash. (if you don't mind wiping, best to also check the wipe options).
I didn't wipe, and then it couldn't boot.
So I booted into recovery, and wiped data/factory reset and cache, then it booted fine.
Still had root.
Then I installed CF-Kernel. Go to the Dev thread and scroll down till you see the GT...LPY version and download that zip. Unzip to take out the .tar file, copy to sd-card.
Use Mobile Odin to open it, and then flash. It will flash the kernel, and then you will have ClockworkMod recovery so that you can backup/restore ROMs again.
(Note: You can actually do the above in one single step, but opening the CF kernel file after you open the ICS file, so that everything else points to the ICS file except the kernel points to CF Kernel.)
Hit the THANKS button if this helps any of you!

[Q] how to put on CWM for nandriod back up

hi gang.
I have a bone stock gn 7000 in the US on ATT.
my kernel and build is XXLA6.. baseband is XXLA4
I plan on using PC Odin to flash the German ICS.
I've already installed Kies and PC Odin recognizes my device.
I have been told to do a 'nandriod back up' first..
And been told That I need CWM first to do this nandriod backup.
Can anyone tell me "how to" get CWM on my phone?
where to get the software and how to install it.
And finally how to do the back up.
I'm green as grass and have never flashed before anything
thanks for all your help.
all replies are.welcomed and encouraged.
thanks again.
Follow this guide : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360 ....... and see also here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1406137
thank you, david
I've been all over your first link a few times before.
I've seen no clear and direct link to CWM and intructions to CWM only... without root.
I don't believe that I need root or do I?
I just need to to a nandroid back up.
I believe that my rom XXLA6 is non rootable anyways..
I only need CWM only and cannot find the software and instructions.
and your other link covers the 9 inch tablet...
thanks again
A NANDROID is a master backup tool which is available through the CWM Recovery's "backup and restore" menu. It stores everything in the ROM except the kernel. It's more like this analogy: a photograph which captured the exact state of your ROM, apps and all at the moment of backup. It is recommended in case of emergency and in case you need to go back to the latest working ROM. How-To section below.
You need CWM Recovery for this one. Once you're in CWM Recovery, the process is straightforward. Look for the "backup and restore" menu, access it and you will see two options: "backup" and "restore". Select "backup" and wait until the system gathers all data and packs it as a backup located in your internal memory, inside a folder called "clockworkmod".
For restoring the process is the same. You need to do the following to ensure a proper restore and prevent issues that might pop up: Wipe your system using CWM Recovery's "wipe data/factory reset" and after that go to "advanced" and now "wipe dalvik cache". Now go to the "mounts and storage" menu and select "format /system". That was a full wipe. Now proceed to the "backup and restore" menu, select "restore" to select your backup. Remember to reflash the kernel if you had one that didn't come with the ROM (like _motley's for example). The linck of tablet is used to know what are the permissions of root end CWM recovery...
Again, David thanks for your response. You seem to be the only one willing to help..
I do believe that you are missing my point..
"I need CWM ONLY". I need the software and instructions to install CWM only.
Your links and your instructions do tell me what to do once CWM is installed..
BUT.. HOW TO get CWM in the first place??
Once CWM is on my phone.. then yes.. I can use your instructions.
BUT FIRST... I need to install CWM on the phone..
Can you tell me HOW TO get and install CWM..
We have to start at the beginning..
Where to get CWM ONLY... How to install it (CWM)?
Ive given thanks again.. please help with the first steps in this process..
I dont want to brick just trying to
INSTALL CWM
only then I can use your instructions on what to do with it..
FIRST I need CWM....
HOW to get CWM on the phone is the question.
thanks alot

Flash this from Samsung recovery (Volume up + power + home). This is an extremely unstable kernel. DO NOT WIPE ANYTHING from this kernel. ONLY use this version of CWM to install a safe GB or ICS kernel first. After this, you are free to flash anything you'd like.
The simplest way to get CWM and start flashing ROMS.
Flash this kernel is stable whit recovery read here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1443385 .... let me know...!

[HELP] Rooting and flashing with kernel LC2.

Hello friends, im on a quest to get ICS on my device, and I pretty much have a grasp of how things should go.
1) I root my note.
2) I flash a "safe" kernel.
3) I use CWM to get CM9 (or any other room) and Gapps.
The thing is, my note is kernel LC2, and there are no guides for that. Well, not really, this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360 says:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When No Any other method works to Root your device, use this
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Note that, this will downgrade your ROM to KJ1, after that you can update it.
Download: https://rapidshare.com/files/3690281..._FACTORYFS.zip Thanx to Chainfire for making it.
(special thanx to schiwa for providing premium a/c to host file)
Mirror : http://d-h.st/HJM (Thnx to Dev host for providing premium ac to XDA recognise contributor)
- Make sure your SGN is NOT connected to your computer
- Reboot your SGN into "download mode" (Vol Down + Home + Power)
- Start ODIN
- Click the PDA button, and select the "SGN_XX_OXA_KJ1_FACTORYFS.tar" file
- Connect the SGN to your computer
- Make sure "repartition" is NOT checked
- Click the START button
- Wait for the phone to reboot TWICE
- Done.
Now you have your device Rooted, Install Mobile Odin Pro n update your device to any new ROM with Mobile Odin.
So, I take it that that method would work, but im not entirely sure about the downgrade, is it relevant or can I just root using that way and then pick up installing CM9 from this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1627854 from the "install a safe kernel" point?
Any help on this matter would be very, VERY appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
yes you can downgrade with above guide
