Unlock bootloader
install this on CWR

See last time I was unlocked my Bootloader and I had installed the CWM Recovery on my HTC Sensation XL. When I was trying to flash the firmware, something went wrong and my phone has bricked. Later that I have given the HTC 300 US Dollars to replace the Main Board. So, Now I dont want to unlock my Bootloader which will void the Warranty. Even we relock the Bootloader also the warranty Void. It will appear as 'Relocked' when we switch on the mobile in Recovery mode. So HTC will not provide any warranty even we relocked the Bootloader.
Hence, I kindly want you to provide me an alternative solution for to get out of this issue. I will be thankful to you in this regard and I will donate you if you wish for to support you for your future developments.

Alternative solution for now is not possible without unlocking bootloader. So there are 2 options. You not flash what so ever, or you flash and there is a risk to brick the phone again

Finally I got root for my HTC Sensation XL by unlocking the Bootloader
Thanks for everyone who has helped me to get the root access for my HTC Sensation XL. After unlocking my Bootloader, I had install the ClockWork Mod Recovery and the Superuser application through CWM Recovery. Thanks for all.

My SD Card is not working on My HTC's Sensation XL after I installed the custom Rom
Today morning I had installed the custom Insanely Cool Sense Rom By Three Muskeeters and the phone was working really fantastic. Lot of improvements like more batter life, good Wi-Fi signals and also the Network radio and the fabulous performance. But later, I have found that my SD card only shows the size of 234KB. I was wondering and I had restarted my Device into Recovery and formatted the SD card which results the SD card cannot be mounted. I tried several times, but no possibilities. Later I restarted my device which doesnt boot into the Android OS. Now, I dont know how to reinstall my Backup ROM which I have with me over the ClockWork Mod Recovery. Because, I dont have the access to my SD Card to copy the Backed up ROM. Now what can I do?
Shall I have to give my mobile to the HTC Service center for repair? or if any other way to remount my SD card. I have tried to format and mount the SD card through CWM Recovery. But it fails.
Can Someone help me how to make my device works again? I will be thankful to you if you help me in this regard.
If I give my device to the HTC Service center, Sure they will charge me again 300 US Dollar to replace the main board. I am residing in United Arab Emirates. Here people dont even look at the phone to figure out the real issue. They use to say that you have to replace your main board in order to make your phone work. I have already paid 300 US Dollar before when I was not familiar with the CWM.
That time when I have given my phone to HTC Service center, My CWM Recovery and SD card is working fine. But I dont know how to install the Custom Rom Via SD card over CWM. Because of the device unlocked, they charged me 300 US Dollar to repair my phone. They told that I had damaged the main board of my device. I was really wondering that time.
Now, I really need your help guys. Kindly give me the proper appropriate solution to get back my device working. Thank you.
Regards,
Ummar Hathaf

you have to install a stock rom which is in exe format after that just plug the phone and open it folow the instructions and the stock rom will do the rest.
PS your bootlaoder must be locked before flashing the stock rom.
if i was help full please press the thanks button it wont heart.

Idk if this would help but anders3408 has an ad card fix for common errors like that, give it a go?
And there is a method around the 'relocked' bootloader, if your device is bricked completely and 100%, download your correct ruu, and flag it, the install will fail but your bootloader will say 'locked' not 'relocked' there for reviving warrenty!

Boot loop prior on stock, can't get to main screens

Hi all,
Got an XL here with a boot loop, it's not rooted, nor has it had anything done to it, it's just not getting to the main screen, HTC white boot loop.
I can get to fastboot, bootloader, not recovery.
Any ideas how to get this back on it's feet?
Thanks.

this is not the htc sensation xl thread...however if you cannot access to bootloader you should try to use adb to reboot bootloader and then perform a factory reset

I'm in the UK, the phone is unlocked, i'm assuming that it's just the europe ruu, i donwloaded both of them from the official ruu thread and attempted to flash both but neither worked, one had a signature fail and the other just errored out.
I've went ahead with the revolutionary unlock and flashed a custom recovery using their tool after unlocking s-off, but i still can't get to recovery nor factory reset.
I'm at a loss.
Please use this thread instead of this one.

If you don't unlock bootloader you will don't take root.
There no other way. Only unlocking.
thx!
ok! But then after that I must downgrade HBOOT necessarily subscribe or else play a Recovery?
I have to install a custom rom on it inevitable?
You dont need downgrade hboot. Only install the recovery.
You need made that.
Download custom rom what you want to install and put it to your sdcard.

To go back to the original custom recovery, you would need to relock the bootloader (put the phone in fastboot mode and type in command "fastboot oem lock"). After you relock the bootloader, you will need to flash the correct RUU stock rom for your phone.
By doing this, the recovery goes automatically back to is original version.
If I can remember, when unlocking the bootloader, all your phone settings go back to its original settings (factory reset).
Please someone correct me if I am wrong!

[Q] Sensation XL soft bricked :(

Hi,
I had sensation xl running on Cyanogenmod 9 and clockworkmod recovery was also working okay. I downloaded bindroid rom zip and tried to install it using clockworkmod after formatting the data/cache. The installation failed and it wiped ICS too and I was unable to restore it to a clockworkmod saved backup. :crying:
I flashed the boot.img for clockworkmod again. Now I am able to open clockworkmod in recovery mode but still I am not able to open the memory card in clockworkmod to choose zip file for installation. I get this error message:Can't mount /sdcard/.
If I choose USB mount and click on the drive on my PC, I get message that the drive is not formatted do you want to format it..
Just wondering if anyone can help me with this??

Update
The situation even got worse now.
I read somewhere in the forums that a similar person with same problem tried these commands in ADB shell.
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3 bs=16 count=1
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3 bs=16 count=1
I ran those two commands and now my phone is completely bricked. I can't even go to recovery and fastboot. No matter for how long I push power or power+volume down button, nothing shows up on phone, not even HTC logo with white screen.
I don't know what to do now. Any suggestions?

Yes, it is a sensation XL and there was no response when I attached it with computer. Finally I went for mobile repair and the repair guy powered it using JTAG. Now he can go to fastboot mode but there is no recovery installed. The CID number was 2.36.709.3 but I couldn't find it anywhere.
Can anyone help me in finding RUU with CID 2.36.709.3?

To install RUU:
SW version of RUU must be newer or the same as max version ever installed in the phone(including fota).
CID must match.
Bootloader MUST be relocked.
That is basically it. No point of skipping anything, the bootloader in the phone performs the check there is no way to fool it. Making it s-off is also pointless since RUU flashes new bootloader first, then reboots the device to flash everything else, your phone will become s-on.
How I fix this? JTAG.

It think it is much easier to flash CWM stock rom, then kill recovery and relock bootloader and wait for newer RUU. The phone will be "stock" basically.
And also this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26318550&postcount=2
I could not get to work on the phone after latest FOTA.
Making the phone S-OFF if it does not boot is also a pain in the but))).

Yes s off needs a booting system usually it will fail otherwise. Perhaps using dd commands from recovery or boot loader will do the trick but from me its untested.

I did solve this problem with a purpose brick then riffbox JTAG (full wipe, s-off, deleted recovery partition and relocked boot loader) also i noticed after tagging my phone, i was still curious about why it wasn't flashing the ruu, i downloaded the one dazz provided(ics) and i got an older version (GB) i tried ICS first.. Fail! I tried GB... Success i think it might be a corrupted ruu file, but then again the link that anders gave The ruu didn't work either...

also you need the correct rru, or change your cid in phone, download the latest rru for your CID
also are you on vodaphone?
the latest rru is ICS 2.31.401.2 this may be slightly different for ausie
austrailian cids are:
023 htc
001 hutchinson 3g, optus
021 vodaphone austrailia
The ruu is the correct one (VODAPO21) and it does not let me install ICS based ruu
