Sd Card not reconised. - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys!
I've got a Galaxy S i9000 and i have a 8GB microSD. I used that SD card on my Xperia Play (sold it, but without the SD) and after i got the Galaxy I put my SD in it. Everything worked well, it recognised everything... but today I wanted to put some music on my SD and i noticed that it loads very slowly, and after that i got an error which said: "the request could not be performed because of an i/o device error". And I got that error everytime i tried to copy/paste something from/to my SD.
So I said, ok, I'll just format it. I formated it in recovery, and everything wen well...it was fast again so i just tried to copy some music (2 or 3 GB)...but when it was at 80-90% i got that error again.
I searched on the Internet...and found SD Formater and I used it to format my card again. And after it finished I rebooted my phone. After it loaded a notification came up... "SD Damaged"...i tried to format it again in recovery but nothing changed.
So does anyone know how to fix it? Please help me!
Thanks in advance!
PS: Sry for my English and for the long post.

Try to format the SD card in your Computer or another Portable Device like a Camera, External card Reader etc.,
Always safely remove USB & try to enable USB debug mode.

[Q] External SD Card Wipes anything copied onto it!

Here's a weird one. I am not trying anything complicated. I just want to copy some music to my new 32GB external SD card that arrived in the post today. I put it into a microSD to SD adaptor, and slide it into my laptops SD slot. It shows up as fat32 and I drag 30 gigs of music on to it. After a long time it completes, and I check in with XP to make sure its all good. Yep fine.
However, the moment I insert it back into my I9000 things get weird. The status bar pops up the usual "Initialising SD card" message, then the media scanner comes up and completes in like a second. Then when I try to browse it from within the phone, the entire music directory has disappeared, and the OS is reporting that there is 28gb of 32gb free on the external sd. So I unmount the SD, slot it back into my pc, and find to my dismay the music directory has indeed been erased.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.. I need my tunes!!
Cheers,
C

My 1st guess is fake/faulty card.
Copy files onto card with a reader.
Eject.
Insert again into reader.
Try to copy from card. (If it fails -> card is faulty or is FAKE)

If I were to guess, when the phone says it's "Initializing SD card" it's likely formatting the card and erasing whatever data you had on it...
When you install the card in your PC, do you format it again and then copy the files? If so, try not to format it on the PC and let the phone do the formatting.
I fully agree. Let the phone format the card and then use MOUNT mode to copy the music over. It seems Fat32 (formated on PC) won't work well for our phones prob due to a flag setting or something the like too big cluster settings. Let the phone sort it out.
Thanks for the help peeps. Here's what I've tried:
Xan: I tried copying files to and from the device using my PC's card reader, and found no problems with it. It is a Kingston MicroSD SDC4/32GB bought from a reseller on Amazon. Are there any tools for around for the pc to run diagnostic tests on SD cards? Maybe I should give that a go? But from the looks of it I think the error lies in the phone somewhere...
An Droid: I am inclined to agree with you. In my original post I stated that it said "Inititialising SD Card", this was a mistake, as it actually says "Preparing SD Card". I have tried formatting it from both the PC and the Phone and still get the same problem.
Icky Boo: I tried this method last night. Used the USB Debugging mode to Mount the phone's card's onto my PC. My Computer displays the two cards as two seperate Drives. I then tried copying all my music onto it. When the copy completed, I pressed "Turn of USB Storage Mode" on the I9000, which immediately prompted the status bar to again show "Preparing SD Card". Then when I used a file explorer to look at the card, it only had about a gig of music copied onto it. It is quite clear now that in "Preparing SD Card" it is doing something strange. Is there anyway to disable this?
Also there is a directory on the SD called Lost.DIR which seems to increase in size every time this happens. Could be a clue?
Finally, just to confirm my phone is mounting it correctly, to browse the SD card from within the phone the path is /sdcard/external_sd/ right? (I understand this is the new path for Froyo 2.2?)
Thanks for the help, sorry for the essay!

UPDATE: Ok, Xan, you were right all along. Finally got a new SD card (sandisk this time, not Kingston) and it works just as it should. Thanks for the help and to everyone else too

[Q] SD Card partitions only partially showing up with USB

Hi
until last night whenever I plugged in the O2X to my PC I got 2 different partitions up for the SD card.
today only one SD partition shows up. the other partition, that I used to save music etc. does not.
Android can read it as I can still access my music. But on my PC I cant get it to show up anylonger.

[Q] MicroSD Help

I got a HTC Raider/Vivid with Bell and a 16 GB microSD. I used the sd to take some pics and stuff. Today I downloaded some music from my linux computer and suddenly I get a message "SD card unexpectedly removed" whenever I unlock the screen after booting. I took out the card and reinserted it to no avail. I tried to restore the phone to factory ddefault but i still get the message.
What should I do?
possibly faulty card, have you tried the actual card itself in a computer or different device?
if it works in your computer then store the info you have on it and try to format it.
Thanks

Thanks for the quick reply. I managed to solve the problem. I just deleted all the files on the card and then inserted it again. It worked.

[Q] is my SD card really dead?

Hi guys, I have a 64GB SanDisk Ultra MicroSD class 10 card. I use it on my Samsung Galaxy s3. Couple of days ago I went to my friend and ask him to give me some movies. He was sending it via data cable but we got frustrated and we had to go somewhere so in the middle of transferring data he unplugged the cable and now my SDcard isn't working anymore. I mean can it be damaged just because we unplugged it in the middle of transferring? I've done it so many times before but it wasn't really a problem. Anyway I'll try to explain what I did with my card since then and what was it's response.
1. The data in the card is intact, I've backed it up as well and when I put my card into my phone it works perfectly. (btw the card was in FAT32 format)
2. I can copy stuff into my card but when I put into my phone it wouldn't show and when I put it back on card reader again the file disappears.
3. I can delete stuff from my card then I take it out and put it back again and the file that I've just deleted comes back.
4. I've tried formatting it but it would give me an error.
5. I've used Easeus partition manager but it would give me an error as well.
6. Then I've used the software I've used when I first formatted the card to FAT32. Guiformat. It would format my card normally but when I go into my card all the files are there.
7. I've tried using commands like "chkdsk d:/r or chkdsk d:/f etc but after like 44% it would say certain files are invalid and can't continue the do the checkdisk command (the file it shows was the files I tried to get from my friend)
8. I've tried so many other stuffs but none of them seems to able to format my card.
now my question to you guys is my card really dead? can it be dead just for interrupting file transfer? is there any way to get my card back to normal? anyway I can format my card? I'd really appreciate it if any of you guys can help. Thanks

I only get this message once I insert the microsd card into the tablet, I get the option not now or go to my files, and I always press not now, and it never come up again until I take out the card and re insert.
do you keep taking out the card or does the message just comes up without you removing/insert the card.

thank you guys for your quick reply. Apologize for the insufficient info. Okay, initially when I inserted the card, the tab is in off mode. Once I powered it up, I didn't get that message. I straight away go to my files and the sd card content is already there, so I thought that is normal, but after a while that message cames on. It goes off once you touch anywhere on the screen or the soft keys. This thing happened on and on. the only thing I haven't done is formatting the card. I gonna try that method afterwards. wish me luck...>_<

It is always best to go through the procedures when insert or removing the sd card, use the menu and unmounts the SD card then format, it's best not to continuous taking out the SD card, even though you can do that.
hmm.... I believe I have tried doing all the method mention before. no joy... formatting process unable to complete(using onboard programme), its only done half way before that message appear again....tried several times....still the same....can't format using PC(ahh....couldn't find my card reader)..so I've concluded that I have to change a new card...even though previously all the content inside works flawlessly. anyway....thanks all for the advices given.
I had that problem with an old microSD and my T810. Changing it with a new one (faster and best branded) solved the problem.
No more messages.

There are two more method you can try, download the Panasonic SD formatter and use that program to format the SD card, or you can format the card using a old nokia phone that runs on the old S40 OS.

I had a 16gb sandisk do this on my s2, swapped it yesterday for a newer, faster 64gb card and so far so good. I'd try a different card or buy a new one.

wow... I wanna give this method a try, looks very promising....
I can't guarantee that the SD formatter work, but it's. A very good program made by the SD association, but the Nokia one has a good chance, previously I has some dead micros, and some that will not detect, even on a PC, the nokia fixed it.
