Help me decide on a laptop.

I want a 14-15" laptop for design and development. Willing to drop at most $2500. Right now I'm keying in on the 15" Macbook Pro (2.2 Ghz, 4GB but 8GB with $80-100 aftermarket RAM, 1680x1050 antiglare).
I want to know what the best 14"-15" high end Windows laptops are right now. I think the build of the Macbook is second to none but a 1080p display and better specs may just make me skip the Macbook if the build and batterylife are decent enough.
Are you getting the 1gb video card?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Yeah. Looked into the dell XPS 15z... looked so perfect but no quad core... Had a HP Envy 15 before but they seemed to have dropped it for the Sub par 14... where are the beast Windows laptops?
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
Hmm there are always the alienware m14x And m15x, don't know if you like those but they can be a real beast is you spec them out right. And with your budget I don't that's too big of a deal
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
i would go for a toshiba satellite. they do ship out with quad cores and decent graphics cards, and the top notch harman/kardon speakers never fail to impress
The macs are well built but didnt ifixit find too much thermal paste

Pentium 4 vs Dual Core Netbook

I'm very out of touch with PC and laptop/netbook benchmarks.
A friend is asking me if I want to buy his HP Mini netbook for $150, its running Ubuntu with a 1.6ghz dual core processor, also 2GB RAM
I'm currently running a desktop running Pentium 4 from almost 10 years ago, its a custom built alienware, 2GB RAM. Still runs great
Is it worth giving the P4 to my dad and getting the netbook?
I only internet surf, watch videos, network, etc.

Id say go for it, dual core makes a boat load of difference in performance.

Its a dual core atom.

Don't you diss the all mighty Atom! I remember when i had an Acer Aspire One A150 with a single core Atom. It rocked my world. It ran GTA Vice City!
Any more advice?
-Sent from my Droid 2-
Bumping for advice.
I don't mean to hijack this thread. But I have an Acer Aspire One with the Intel Atom N550, which is a dual core atom at 1.6 GHz. It has 2GB of ram. I put Ubuntu 11.10 on it and it runs like a beast. I use it only for my school work. Typing papers, power point lectures, school email, and the occasional internet browsing. Should I keep Ubuntu or put Windows XP on it. I know XP is a little out dated, but it would run like a beast on this setup. What would you guys do? Should I keep Ubuntu for what I need it for, or should I use XP for the stated above?
Either one would work I would think, since Ubuntu is lightweight as it is, its probably a better long term choice, but either is probably great.

A toshiba netbook should be fine. I have a netbook with same specs and windows 7 and it runs great. But my brother has the HP mini and he had issues with windows 7

I'm running an Acer aspire with a dual core atom with 2 gb of ram on Ubuntu. It runs super awesome. If he only wants 160 for it I say do it.

I have an Asus 1215B (AMD Dual-Core Processor E350 with AMD Mobility Radeon HD 6310). I was looking for an Intel Atom Netbook then I found this and let me say that it really rocks. It feels snappier against every atom netbook I've tested it against. I also didn't have any problem to make various linux distro run on this, it is based on Amd Fusion platform which is rapidly growing amongst linux communities so I suggest this netbook
I usually develop software for android using this netbook while on the go and I haven't had any problem with it. looking forward to replace the hd with an ssd one, done that it will be perfect for my needs

[Share] Gadgets You Use!!

I hope in this current life style there are number of people using numerous gadgets and to my info there are 1000s of gadgets that are invented every year.
So, basically, in this thread, will be the different gadgets used by xda users!! Share their names and description(if that gadget isn't known to many) along with pic if possible!! People will come to know the choices in the current world of ours!!
I have the HTC Rezound for a phone. It's awesome imo. 1.5Ghz dual core processor, 1GB RAM, 8MP rear camera, 2MP front camera, and came with a 16GB card. Plus, the developer following on it is great.
Also, I have a slim PS3 to meet my gaming needs. Upgraded the HDD to 750GB. A few games for it: Battlefield 3, COD4-COD:MW3, Rock Band 1-3, Rock Band Beatles and Green Day, Guitar Hero 3, 5, and Van Halen, Gran Turismo 5, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit and Prostreet, Bulletstorm, and GTA IV.
And obviously, as this was posted from it, I have an Asus Transformer Prime, 32GB version in Amethyst Gray. Overclocked to 1.6Ghz quad core processor + companion core, 1GB of RAM and 8MP rear camera as well, 1.3MP front camera, and has ICS officially. Asus just released a bootloader unlock tool for it yesterday, so it's only going to get better from here
Edit was cause I accidentally hit submit too early lol.

Iam using Optimus Black, it's slim and so black with 1Ghz processor it's enough in my pocket...

[Q] CPU Bottlenecking my GPU

OK so I'm building my first rig and I've heard of the cpu almost 'restricting' my gpu. Also post any ideas or thoughts on my build as I would love to know. (I'm a beginner when it comes to hardware)
Asus GTS 450 1GB Silent Direct CU $154.70
AMD Athlon II X2 260 @ 3.2
Asrock 880GMH AM3
Western Digital 500Gb SATA
Adata 4GB XPG Gaming DDR3 4GB @ 1600MHZ
Huntkey GreenPower 550w
It is a budget build and I couldn't find the appropriate section for PC's.

Lol, I think that's because xda it's a forum for phones. But I dabble in computers.
At first glance I would say you were combining old tech (amd athalon 2) with newer tech (mobo and ram) so I would definitely say your rig is being limited by your CPU. I'm not 100% familiar with amd since I'm more of an Intel guy, but I'll do some research for you.

Thanks yeah the athlon is getting quite old yet overclocking to 3.7ghz would help but I don't think it would help enough. I might have to look more at the Phenom lineup

Some other thoughts:
You motherboard has 4 memory slots for DDR3 ram that operate only in dual channel mode. DDR3 ram is meant to be operated in triple channel mode. Meaning shots gave to be in multiples of 3. So your MOBO is restricting your ram.

Asia only at this stage so probably less with less developer support, that said I'll probably still try to get it.
Nothing to do with the Butterfly. Closed.
