very poor GPS reception? - LG Optimus 2x

Ìs anybody else experiencing very poor GPS reception? Compared to my old HTC Desire, the reception and logging with Sportypal or MyTracks is waaayyyy off. Always! No spikes or something, but really just way off, 20 meters left/right. I have this issue both with stock ROM and Temasek's CM7. It really sucks, logging basically almost becomes unusable for running, because workouts need a lot of post adjustments.
I tried using a utility caled "GPS Test", to download latest GPS coördinates for Assisted GPS, but it actually doesn't make a difference.

You mean before you get a GPS lock at all? Or you mean you get a GPS fix quickly, but it's accurate only after 10-15 minutes?
I get a GPS fix pretty quickly, that's never the problem. Only the accuracy is the major problem.

I get a fix....it takes about 15 mins for accurate loc

Same here i get fix in few second, but way off on the map.

@dmxl,
Maybe you can try out this app called FasterFix featured in XDA:
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/speed-up-your-gps-fix-with-fasterfix/

CM7 for the 2x comes with europe.pool.ntp.org as GPS server.
If you're not living in Europe your fix time should get better when you change to a server for your region with the FasterFix app (get it from the PlayStore).
In case this won't help either try the GPS Aid app which does tweak some more values - but I've never used it and don't know if it will help or not.

Ok tried with only 2G. Accuracy is even worse. Overall, with either 2G or 3G, it's só bad to such an extent, that it would be more accurate for me to just not use GPS, and draw the line myself in the browser with Sportypal or My Tracks and fill in the minutes of the total duration.
It's basically unusable compared to my old HTC Desire (which I sold, stupid me).
Man oh man, must be a pretty crappy GPS chip....

So now, you're able to fix your GPS.

Same here, i've used Temasek's CM7 Kang for a loooooong time but switched to Owain's CM9 Kang a couple of weeks ago and ever since i've been getting faster and amazingly accurate fixes, even indoors.
Not sure if that's coincidence or a real improvement though.

I have seriously wondered why this is,....even thought about making a post about it, but
In every rom I have ran so far I have never had an issue. I have consistently gotten 8-12 satellites and the first 8 lock within seconds. Since I got my new car mount I have been running the "GPS Test" application and just let it go while I drive. I even went as far as to get the Track Me app and traced my drive to and from work.
I only seem to see complaints about GPS but I have had nothing but a great experience. The worst performance I have had is with the "Cog 2.2 Beta1" and I still do not feel it was sub par performance.
I know this is the opposite of what you asked but I thought it might be informative. Could this be a sign that the problem is hardware and not software?

I upgraded from Hero to IS and the only thing that IS let me down is its GPS. Hero is much faster to acquire a lock and being stable afterward. But IS is very unstable in this regard. Sometime it takes only a few seconds while most other time at least 5 minutes. I'm talking about testing at the exactly same spot but different time.
Maybe try out scmasaru's suggestion later.
are you talking about GPS without WiFi network ? My IS can not catch GPS if no wifi is on.
But my previous N1 can easily catch GPS without any WiFi

WiFi/mobile data should assist GPS to lock faster but not necessary. My IS take ages to get a lock if only GPS is switched on. There's definitely something wrong here.

Help you with what? Buy an Atrix if you want faster indoor GPS.
The only time I need GPS is when I'm outdoors, so I don't see the issue unless you have a habit of waking up in strange buildings...
Just learned from another thread that the antenna of IS is attached to the battery case. So maybe all our GPS reception problem is caused by a loose connection?

*Possible* CM7 GPS Polling Rate Fix

This does not work on the newer nightlys, it breaks GPS. Removed the attachment.
---
update.zip to replace /system/lib/hw/gps.inc.so with the file found in the Incredible_C_GB_S_VERIZON_WWE_4.01.605.0 leak that rmk40 posted/updated from 911Sniper's.
I really can't take any credit at all for any of this. I just saw what the Evo guys did, tweaked a line in the updater script, switched their gps file for ours, and then signed it with Signapktic.
If you want to thank someone, please thank galandy and daryelv.
Runkeeper has been having problems for me, so I'm seeing if this helps. i've flashed this and made sure I still got a GPS lock (CM7 Nightly 134), but I haven't had a chance to try it with Runkeeper.... hopefully this isn't an epic fail. One image shows what it looks like good, and one what it has been doing lately.
If you aren't having a problem, I wouldn't flash it, and remember the nandroid!
md5: 2c1f40fcdeabfd4068ef13b9f3358aa6
Hey so do you think you can elaborate on what exactly this does?
On first glance it looks like it is having the GPS refresh much more rapidly (therefore consuming more battery life I'm guessing).
Is this the only thing this mod does?
Yes, how is the battery life with this?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA Premium App
I can't comment on battery life at this point. I'm going to use GPS on Monday evening and will report back. I expect it may drain the battery more while using GPS, but for me, the trade off of more polling is worth it.
The update.zip simply replaces the CM7 GPS driver with the driver found in the Gingerbread leak. I can't speak to the changes in the HTC driver, because I've not seen the code (probably wouldn't do much good for me to see it anyway), and the source is not released.
If you are not having a problem, I wouldn't flash it.
I'm curious how this turns out, since I've noticed the same thing with RunKeeper lately. I don't think it has a negative effect on my total mileage, but every once in a while the accuracy goes completely wonky and it can't give me an accurate reading of my pace at the moment.
I had my days mixed up, today isn't a run day.
I wanted to get some initial results though, so I did do a quick run. GPS seems to have a higher polling/refresh/whatever it's called rate. The only thing I did was flash this update.zip.
Tomorrow I go for a 40 minute run so I'll have a better idea on how it hits the battery. I just went 5 minutes today, so it didn't really do anything.
So far, seems to be good. No more corners being cut off!
I'll have to keep my eye on this, when I was running sense roms maps was able to be able to track me with pinpoint accuracy, with cm7 it seems off by a few yards. Not a lot but enough to say im in my backyard when i'm in my bedroom or my neighbors front yard when i'm in my kitchen. If I can get that lock I got in sense with cm7 i'll be a happy camper.
Curious as well
I have noticed issues with GPS being off 5-10 yards as well. I ad recently flashed back to 7.28 radio which seemed to help initially or so I thought. I noticed it off about 10 yards on golf apps.
Looking forward to how this turns out

Yup, sounds like it
Just got done with a 35 minute run, GPS is working much better for me. I have an 8 month old 1500mAh TP2 battery. It dropped 6% in 35 minutes (screen off the whole time, just using runkeeper), which does not appear to be better or worse on the battery to me than the stock CM7 GPS driver.
If you are flashing this driver, you will have to re-flash it after flashing CM7.
I haven't tested accuracy, I can only say that it has increased the blue dots on my run keeper map which is what I wanted.
Thanks for looking into this. I've noticed that my tracks has been working poorly lately for me. Sometimes it even skips parts of my course altogether. Some of this may be due to the terrain (I use it for MTB ) but I never noticed it when I was using the stock rom. Ill try it out and report back if anything gets better.

Yeah, this helped me. Maps is smoother, and MyTracks is insanely smooth! No noticeable difference in battery use either.
Just got finished with my evening ride and it seems my tracks is working perfectly as far as smooth maps. I did notice something odd however, my tracks reported almost one mile more than the odometer on my bike computer! The first two miles were right on and then it seems something went wrong. Ill have to try it with a known distance and see which one is the culprit.

How long have you had the phone/been trying to use the GPS? For the first week that I had been using it on mine it was taking 15+ minutes to connect (which didn't bother me since my Captivate would never connect.) But the more I have used it, the better it has gotten. I get locks within about 20 seconds now.
well about 5days i try it every day and nothing never connects i feel this is going to be a problem for more as time goes on god i hope not /.
I found a fix, see my thread in the forum.

From my experience is as good as any other Android device i used, good accuracy, good speed of getting lock under clear sky, indoors, as always, depends on the building...
Other than that, depends on your location, my experience so far was great, overall experience. Used it for driving a few times with no problems.

Well, the thread it's about GPS and in my experience GPS works as good as any other Android phone i owned so far (HTC Sensation XL, Nexus S, Dell Streak 5), GPS satelites get connected about the same speed, but you can feel differences at zooming and such as the hardware is powerful. Other than that, i used only Google Maps, everything worked well for me, nothing to be missed here.
A more descriptive experience, imagine this: You live in a big city, you want to go to one street and you don't know where it is, go to the car, get in the car, activate mobile data, get into Google Maps, search for the street > get directions, everything works as fast as you can read this, even on a HSPA connection, after that, you put the phone somewhere on the dash, follow directions and that's pretty much it.
Hope this helps.
Coming from a 2011 phone... Using GPS Status Plus on my old phone gave me a result of 4 to 5 satellites without AGPS inside my house. With the HTC One it gave me a whooping 52 satellites although not all are getting connected. I'm not sure if it's just a bug or something but gave me a WTF moment for a minute.
I am coming from HTC inspire that has a HORRIBLE GPS. It usually take about half hour to get the GPS lock.. Thats why I wanted to know..
With both GPS and GLONASS support, it's pretty good.
