what is the best overclock frequency i should tune for x8?? - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

For Stock Kernel .

Set it to as high as you can without the phone rebooting itself the best frequency varies between phones as far as I know

I usually gets 710 with stock kernel as best with smartass governor. But u can always test in different clock.

Anything below 787 is stable for me (stock kernel) smartass/ondemand.

so ghost if i raised the frequency above 710 , in further way it will affect my processor or not ???

it's rebooting after it reach 787>but the question here does it affect on processor efficiency

and min Frequency stay as it is or it can be higher too ?????
and thanks all of u for ur replies

OCing will always affect your processor. It's what it does.
Your oc value, in my experience, is dependent on the user (eg: smoothness/performance vs battery life). Stick with what works for you (but always mind you temp - just to be safe). I can oc above 710 but i rarely go above that cause it's more than enough for my daily/normal use, though i raise it when playong games.
Yes min frequency can be changed. There are a lot of ppl who know mre abt this than me, but (again) personally i prefer to set it at minimum and simply change governors when needed (i set it to on demand when watching videos).
Hope that helps.

what is governors and how to change it . i see it in option but i don't change any th

I'm not an expert in overclocking area... but as far as I know a governor is like a whole configuration pack for the CPU behavior: how it must act when the phone is sleeping, how it must act when it "wakes up", how and when it must jump from max to min values... I think that governors can be changed using the performance menu if you are using a cm7 based rom, but they can always be changed from the main screen on setCPU. The group of governors you can use depends from the kernel you have, I think. You can about some governors here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=843406
For me the one who has better balance between battery length and cpu speed is smartass V2. Hope I have helped. Good luck!

Oc will affect the cpu life i guess and the battery consumption. Governor will manage the cpu and the battery usage. Eg.when the phone sleeps, wakes, etc. U can use smartass on stock kernel and smartass v02 on custom kernel. From what i read, smartass affect dsp manager.
Hope it helps.

okai thanxs all i see governor icon in setcpu i wanna the rates of the option in governor to adjust it as i'm using stock kernel
powersave bias 0
ignore nice load 0
show differential 0
up threeshold 0
sampling rate 400000
or is there any other app for govenor only
plz reply me

Im not sure if i understand correctly.
In setcpu there are a couple if tabs. In yhe main tab is where we change freq and governors:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Now if you want to edit your a governor further you go to the governors tab:
Now the thing is the governor tab changes depending on the governor you set in the main tab. For example, smartass will let you edit more values the, lets say, ondemand.
Now when you're in the governors tab simply tap on the option you want to change, change the value, then hit apply.
Hope that helps.

I'm using (all conservative for Galaxy S phones)
The "Main" tab profile is set to 1200 max/100 min
Temp > 49.8 C - Priority 100 - 800 max/100 min
Charging/Full - Priority 95 - 1200 max/100 min
Screen Off - Priority 90 - 400 max/100 min
Battery < 12% - Priority 85 - 600 max/100 min
Battery < 25% - Priority 80 - 800 max/100 min
Seems to be working well for me so far. Not sure if this is the "best" way to do it, but it makes sense to me.
I have found set cpu to be completely useless and not help with battery life at all,i just leave it on 1000/100 1200 seems overkill. Plus why would lowering it save battery, if it was low it seems like it would just take longer to do something sucking up just a much battery life than if it was set high and got the job done faster.

Unless you have Unhelpfuls over clock kernel with a custom profile (Interactive). With the stock kernel that's correct, using the "Ondemand" profile it will cause your phone to not wake up and you get the pleasure of taking your battery out to reboot it.

That's the thing tho. The phone (without having setcpu intervene) automatically clocks its self down to 100mhz when the screen goes off. So I wonder what setcpu does that it makes the phone pull a sleeping beauty

It's because "ondemand" profile, it doesn't play nice with the galaxy s phones when in sleep. If you set it to ondemand for the main profile and conservative for when the screens off you won't have any issues.

[Q] Comparable Benchmark

Hey guys, what do you think, is a better benchmark, than quadrant?
Since it delivers pretty much different results, depending on e.g. how often you are running it.
So I was wondering, if there is a more compareable/relieable benchmark for our phone
antutu is the best in my opinion
I also use antutu.
I use 2 Quadrants (advanced and Standard), which the values are ~3100 with Advanced and ~2100 with Standard. I´m using Zeus Rom V3.2n with Smartass2 Governor and with Deadline I/O (stock one).
I've become a fan of antutu mainly because it had a more detailed output until now.
Why i can´t overclock the OB from the tool of antutu? Is there something missing?

What a lucky guy!!!!
Absolutely it can decrease your x8's life due damages to chip set & overhead.(+high battery drain)
anyways overclocking more than 729 MHz is not recommended (by me)
& over clock to 864 just in benchmarking

Firstly you can't burn phone with overclocking.
Seconldy, stability of cpu depends on the level of batery. For example: My phone runs 806mhz without any problem when batery is fully charged. When baterry level is about 60% my phone is much more unstable. So try to set this frequency when your battery level is low.
Are you sure its x8?
Lol
What have you done to your phone??:what:
:good: as long as you don't have any problem its ok
Do a big smile, because you are lucky. And this is normal, the 7x27 chips can handle 8-900 MHz without any problem, but the most x8 owner have low quality SoC with 600 MHz, the high quality chips marked and sold as 7x27T with 800MHz default clock (you can find it in low end galaxy models and other phones what equipped with 7x27 but the default clock is 800 MHz).
Wait while the battery level is only 10-15% and burn the phone with games/benchmarks. If the phone not freeze while the battery turn to empty, you can use this frequency (when the battery level is low, the cpu got lower voltage, this is normal, the difference not significant, only few mV but sometime this is enough to make the phone unstable).

I dont think theres any life drop on the cpu when overclocking too much - contrary to what people believe. Ive oced dozens of cpus and havent seen one burn and die from that. All modern chips will simply reset if they cant handle it.
My shakira can easily handle 800+ so its always running at these levels since i got it. And yea, its better at benchmarks like this

The ROM already had the module, but it wasn't provisioned for in hw_config because of possible instabilities. All I did was to insmod it via Terminal Emulator just to see if the overclock was possible, but the system crashed almost instantly. When the ROM was still fresh, it actually managed to work, but everything was extremely slow and laggy. My idea is either that the stock kernel or the ROM just don't do that well with overclocking, so I just abandoned the concept completely. Besides, I'm satisfied with the performance anyway. No need for perfectionism here

I think because it's not actually handling that frequency, for example for slow scrolling Max needed frequency is ~729 if you scroll faster kernel will need higher CPU performance & it'll use all 864 MHz then rebooting happens
#THIS IS JUST A THEORY, might be wrong
BUT SOME LUCKY GUYS CAN OVER TO 864 WITHOUT PROBLEMS, I'm not taking about them

He can be right. It can depend on the governor you use. If you use an Ondemand governor, the CPU scales the frequency between the min and max values. That is , if there is a high load then the CPU scales to higher frequencies and when in lower load then it automatically reduces to low frequencies. So when he switch his clock speed he maynot have much load but after switching when a load comes to the CPU it scales the frequency to the highest possible to 864Mhz. So it reaches an unstable condition and reboots.
So Jay-Z-S may be right.
Haha..
My phone stuck at 844 Mhz (when selecting the Maximum CPU frequency) LOL..

If you select powersave governor your cpu will stand on minimum so you can set max to 864 ,without reboots because CPU frequency won't rise to 8xx ,that's what I'm saying if you don't use all 8xx MHz you can set it as Max (but on ondemand all 8xx will be used & rebooting happens cause of a lack of cpu's silicon )
Like mine on powersave max864 min 245 on powersave governor (actually running with min frequency)

So the problem is the minimum frequency is shown as 1190Mhz but it's running as low as 300Mhz. Tried changing it to show 300Mhz but it keeps changing back to 1190Mhz.
Any ideas? It's not a big problem but it's becoming very annoying.

You don't use all the time the maximum frequency of CPU cores...i've tested myself with the same Antutu CPU Benchmark and i have the same, in IDLE the cpus frequency is 300Mhz, if i start a game that jump to higher frequency, there is nothing stange here.
I'm talking about what these 2 app shows me. My minimum frequency is 300Mhz yet it's showing 1190Mhz.

That mean that the minimal frequency is 300Mhz i don't understand your problem i have the same thing, when the phone is IDLing it's at 300Mhz, that seems legit.
Yes my minimum frequency is 300MHz but both the screenshots is telling me that my minimum frequency is 1190Mhz, which is wrong. My problem is that they're not telling me the correct frequency.

The first one said your current frequency is 300Mhz (your phone IDLE) and minimum 1190, this app seems just broken or wrong.
The 2nd clearly show the minimum is 300Mhz and the current is 422,4Mhz
I trust Antutu CPU Master because i have the same results.
Try a different CPU app, like set cpu, see what that says, i think it could just be a glitch on that CPU app.
Chances are it's reporting it wrongly and it'll be down to the app, if it was on 1190 all the time your battery life would really suffer for it.
Also try to alter the governor in the app, could be that on another one like interactive or power save it'll yield different results.
This is because of Qualcomm MP-Decision that controls the hotplugging, that tells the CPU to boost MIN freq to 1190 Mhz to fake UI smoothness and response, about 2-3 second then ramp quickly down to 300 Mhz, and then do the same over and over again. Good for performance, bad for battery.
This is also a part of Qualcomms own Project Butter solution - using / forcing the device into overdrive mode w/o any thoughts on heat generation / stuttering by nearly instant & uneven shifting between frequencies, thanks to a built-in touch boost feature that is boosting the phone to 1190 Mhz in Z1 case, was at 1026 Mhz frequency spectrum at Z / devices that used the same QC shipset as the Z.
This is fixed by @faux123 in his rewritten Intelliplug module, that conserves / keeps the performance (even improves it..) and boosting battery life with a more natural step pattern through your device various CPU clock frequencies.
EDIT: More easy understood info on those two links!

I have the same problem. Can't even set my min frequency to any other then 300MHz.
Would like to raise it a bit becose sometimes its freezing when starting the camera using the physica button.
I can only change the max frequency.
Any help Would be very appreciated.
Thank you
Z1 4.4.4 stock & locked bootloader
I had the same problem, just try the No-frills cpu control it works for me (when your phone is idle it will always running at 300 because it is trying to save battery)
