Chrome, chrome, chrome..... - Nexus 7 General

Ordered my nexus 7 (x2) as soon as there was a button on the UK website. Now I know chrome is the default browser, so I thought sweet, I'll install it on my a500 so I can get used to it before the tab arrive's.
Omg, what a piece of rubbish, every time I change tabs from XDA to another site the page is just plain white, then back to XDA since it was already tabbed and loaded you'd assume it would still be, but no. Its plain white. Then to piss me off even more halve way though writing this post it crashed lol! What kind of a browser crashes inputting text lol. I wanted to like it, in fact I do like the interface but the bugs are just not fun!
uninstalling that crap and going with the good old opera
Anyone else having probs with it ?
Fox

I'll just, use dolphin HD as I have been for awhile.

You must have something wrong with your A500, because that's not the experience I get on my Xoom or Galaxy Nexus...

The plain ol' Browser will be on the Market for download. I have no idea why Chrome is the default browser.

I don't know about A500 roms but to me it sounds like a memory issue or something, its sort of "killing" tabs to save memory and then reloading them once you need them again. Maybe some background processes eating memory?

Yeah I don't even have that problem on my Skyrocket. Chrome rocks.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727

It does crash occasionly if you keep getting a white page it can clear by going back a page then trying again if not close it then task kill it after that it will be fine.
Overall I find it to be far better than std browser.

I'm a very "clean user" I have fb opera order and chaos, that's it. thinking though maybe one of the processes I have disabled, chrome uses, I disable everything I don't use, camera Calender live wp themes etc, maybe that's the issue?

It don't crash for me at all...works fine and it doesn't look bad enough to use something else

Chrome runs perfectly on my Galaxy Note without any problems with tabs and, whilst there isn't flash support, I love it because of how it easily syncs my bookmarks from my computer.

I won't be using Chrome much on my N7 much if at all just simply because of the lack of adobe flash player support. Dolphin HD seems like a much better option.

I'm on the desire z, pretty old low ram, runs very very well on wifi.. 3g is iffy

Is Chrome open source?

Chrome still needs work. Use opera, or dolphin. Both are extremely fast and a lot less buggy.

Love it! Works great on the Xoom. Tweetcaster Premium works fine for me as well. I'm keeping both for now.
Definitely the best twitter app I've used, and I've tried practically every one since I've had my Xoom. Now I'd just love to find an equally functional and awesome Facebook app. Any suggestions?

Here you go, working fine on my Xoom.
i really like the appearance of this app,the one thing that seems like a pretty big flaw IMO is the way they integrate lists. there is currently no way to put them in the same "tabs" as the others, and if you want to view your lists they open in a pop up.
posting to FB is nice, but i'd also like to see full integration of FB into the timelines a la Tweetdeck.
I would like to see Tweetdeck port over the desktop version for Android Tablet usage. I already use Tweetdeck on my EVO 4G. I would love something more robust on my Xoom. Still, Tweetcaster HD is good so far. If only they would make a Friendcaster HD, that would rock.

Aye lass. Each to thine own
I personally love MIUI - best of what iOS should've been but... its ANDROID!
I love the music player, browser, widgets, and over all customization you get with it.
Not to mention I like the general layout and options - you can tweak just about everything in it.
I like the lockscreens - you get a ton of different options.
Not to mention the theme the community puts out.
The only thing I don't like (at no fault to MIUI) is I take a hit in battery life.
What kernel are you using? How do you use your phone?

[WEEKLY POLL][No.2] What is the best keyboard for you?

What keyboard do you guys use? I personally use swype, it is the best keyboard when single handed. I know some of you like slideit but swype is completely free, and all features are available in the free version.
Your vote is much appreciated.

Swiftkey is good overall, but it uses too much RAM.

Yes third party keyboards do take some ram, that is why I almost only flash roms that support bigmen. casual use slow down is minimum, and again, ICS performance IS improving, although we may never reach the degree of fastness on gb, it's getting close.

Swiftkey for me!
I always used swype, and I loved it, until I first used swiftkey, who had the best predictions I've ever seen. Since that day I always used swiftkey, I have even tested swiftkey 3 beta, and it is awesome, but still a little bit unstable on my device. Can't wait for the official release.

I have used flip board for a few days on a gs2 and I would say flipboard is meant to be a more graphical way to read. I think flipboard would say it is not about having infinite articles to read it is about having high quality content articles that are a pleasure to read. More like a newspaper.
I would compare it more to google currents and feedly. I like currents the best i think. It probably has the best combination of # of sources, interface, ease of navigation, and the ability to pull in an rss feed means I can add my local newspaper.
side note samsung should convince ap news to make a flipboard tile instead of having an entire app.
just a small piece of advice
i was playing with the app and while i was in the settings i found out that you could change the font size to small. (normal is the default size). by doing this, every thing will look much much better. though still not perfect, but it looks more decent and makes it much more useable

[App] SWE Browser

I have compiled the SWE browser code found here:
https://www.codeaurora.org/xwiki/bin/Chromium+for+Snapdragon/WebHome
It is like 10GB download and it takes a decent amount of time to download and compile. They don't make it that easy.
Basically this is an optimized browser made for the snapdragon processor. I have been running it for a few weeks and it is pretty solid. Really fast. I did some benchmarks vs firefox and chrome and it is between 10% - 30% faster. It just seems snappier than other browsers.
March Build:
https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.rsbrowser.browser
Here are images of the benchmarks.
http://imgur.com/a/aXwmk
Here is a screenshot of the browser

The older version of SWE built by this guy:
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/39296-app-chromium-browser-for-snapdragon-nightlies/
Actually had better sunspider scores, but the newer version is much better at octane and kraken.
However it looks like since google switched to the blink engine sunspider is no longer something they are optimizing for. However the SWE browser scores are still 30% faster. It asks for a bunch of permissions. I am not sure which ones are actually necessary so I left it as is.
Update october 25th:
Play Store Link
Update December 27th:
This is my version of the m46 version of the browser:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rsbrowser.browser
I have put an updated version of swe browser on the play store. I have been using this for the last 3 weeks. I modified it slightly from the qualcomm version since the qualcomm version tries to launch apps from google search.
This is the m42 version with the AD blocking.
This is probably the best browser out there in my opinion.
I found it funny no one replied this thread so far. Awesome work, great browser, kudos to you for giving it up for free!
Looks even better than chrome too and uses less ram.
Had enough? Maybe not - this browser you can edit if and for how much a website can know your location!
Cheers for a good work!
