(Q) Anybody know where I can sell my laptop for a fair price? - Off-topic

I'm trying to sell my laptop so that I have extra money for my vacation but I haven't had any luck. I've tried ebay and CL. All the contact that I've had with people from CL are scammers and flakers. If anybody has any other ideas, please feel free to chime in. Thanks!
Laptop is an HP Folio 13-1051nr Hunger Games edition that I won from the "Smoked by Windows Phone" Challenge.

I was going to suggest CL cause I've had good luck with them in the past but you already tried that, you could try the xda marketplace.

That's right.
I'd stick with eBay if I were you. You may not get as good a price as you want, but then again you may get better. It's just luck of the draw.

3 options
I would say CL is the best option if you live in the city. if not, then eBay. Yes it might be risky, specially if you are new to eBay or do not have many transactions. Scammers usually target new eBayers that are not familiar with the selling process. They often buy form you, them swap the item for an identical one but defective. So there are a few step that you must follow in order to prevent this.
Your third option is sell to a electronic trade-in company. I have used this one http://www.gadgetsalvation.com
You most likely won't get as much as you could get on eBay, but at least you safe yourself the hassle.
Good luck

There are a couple of used ones on Amazon for $650. You could try there. I personally have never sold anything on it.
http://www.amazon.com/HP-13-1051nr-Hunger-Special-Edition/dp/B007P6IXLA

I also recommend CL
I also recommend CL to sell your laptop. However first of all, it's better to look up current average used price of your laptop on Amazon.com or ebay for figure out the price.
Ebay and Amazon takes more or around $10 depends on your price range.
Then calculate deducted price and post little upper than deducted.
You can avoid fee from ebay or amazon like sites but can get more than when you sell with those sites.
In addition, buyers will hook up less price than ebay and amazon.

I'd also recommend CL, though it requires considerably more patience that ebay due to, as you've experienced, scammers and flakers. Ebay fees suck and CL will often fetch a higher price.

HD7 on ebay

Don't want to tempt anyone here but I've just noticed that unlocked HD7s are selling on ebay for between £400 and £550 a pop.
Crazy. Why would you pay that? Have these people never heard of using a shop? Or at least checking the going rate online.

I saw this its so crazy if i had the upfront cash i would so get in on that.
It's that price on eBay because:
1. It's only release in europe at the moment
2. US people can't be bothered to wait and usually order from overseas
3. It's unlocked
Main 3 factors which bumps up the prices.
That does explain some of the sales but plenty of sellers say they won't ship outside of the UK.
I checked some of the inflated completions and a lot of them seem to be bought by bidders with zero feedback. Something funny going on there.
Yea the zero feedbacks do sound a bit dodgy...
But with the ones that ain't shipping out of UK, it's unlocked, so people will pay anything just to put their Vodafone/Orange/Tmobile sim in it.
What i don't get is that you can do it yourself if you just buy it from O2. Learning how to unlock it will take like 15minutes for a newbie.
Indeed.
For the zero bid ebay buys I wonder if it's a way of making a product look more expensive than it really is. People probably decide on what's a bargain partly based on how much stuff tends to sell for.
So, if you flood the place with extortionately priced handsets and create ebay IDs to buy them people will presume that's the going rate and be willing to shell out more.
If an item sells then great. You go out to O2, buy one, unlock it and put in post to buyer. If it looks like it won't sell you use a fake ID to make it look like it sold and later get your advertising money back due to 'buyer' not sending payment.
Devious if true.

Best deal on a NC?

Anybody know the cheapest place to get a NC?
B&N, Walmart, Best Buy....
Ebay/Craigslist is going to be your best bet on cheaper than list...

Yup. It is the same price everywhere retail.
Buy it online and take advantage of cash back offers.
For example, sign up for fatwallet.com. go to their page about B&N, click through and you will get 4% cash back from B&N through fatwallet.
Also, pay with an American Express Open card and save 5%. So you save about $22. Not sure if that is worth all of your trouble, but there you go.
Thanks. I'm just gonna print out that fatwallet page and price match it at Best Buy. Should almost cover tax.
Get it from Craigslist. I got mine brand new for $180 with a case.
Best I could find was a B&N coupon for 15% off 1 item...... by then I found a brand new still sealed with case for 170 on CL.

15% off? That's pretty good. Where'd you get it from?
BTW I've been checking CL for the last 2 months. Theres one guy selling it already rooted for $300 (friggin idiot lol).
I don't think that the b&n coupons apply to the NC.

Every coupon I've seen for B&N has said:
[...]not eligible for purchases of the following products and services: [...] NOOK(TM) and related accessories[...]
Yep sorry, i didn't read fine print.

There were a couple on my local CL right after Christmas. One in Detroit & another in Lansing. Both were asking $200, for Nooks (supposedly) still in shrink wrap. My guess is they were presents and the sellers wanted cash rather than a BN gift card.
I tried to work a deal with the seller closest to me, but we (her, actually) couldn't coordinate schedules. I was not going to drive an hour for the other one, so I just bought new at the BN store.
Seriously, if you can make a CL or other deal work and save a few bucks, great. For me, it was not worth the time & hassle to save $50.

First Nexus 7 on E-Bay - $600

Looks like someone made quick work and already posted a Nexus 7 from Google IO on E-Bay. $600 for those who can't wait!
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nexus-7-Tab...-2012-Android-4-1-FAST-SHIPPING-/150846459594
they can keep it, there is no way i will pay triple for that tablet
Someone else also posted for $1500. Another individual is selling his pre-order copy for $400. The ways people think of making a quick buck...smh
some people are just desperate to make some quick buck. I would keep it if i were them.
Capitalism at work. Don't hate the seller, pity the buyer.
I just found one on CL for 999, LOL.

Why? With the money they earn they could buy a new Nexus 7 with plenty left over!
$400 seems reasonable. After taxes and whatnot my 16gb is 300ish. Throw in shipping+insurance and a little money for their trouble and that's not so bad for someone in a country that can't buy these. If you're somewhere you can buy them I don't really see the point of buying from ebay/CL/etc
cheap in USA?
the current exchange rates is USD-1:AUD-1
It is $250 in oz and only $200 in the USA!

Anyone know a good site to sell used laptop?

Does anyone know a good site to sell my used laptop?
Not crazy about ebay because i've already canceled one ad on my account, if i cancel another i might get charged a penalty (if i end up selling it somewhere else while in the mean time... i want to sell it fast)
Not crazy about craigslist because the laptop has signs of cosmetic wear especially on the lid (does not impact performance purely cosmetic) but in the eyes of a non tech savy buyer that = worth much less.
Best buy trade in is a joke they offered me like $100 for my gs3 which i sold on swappa for $270.
All the hundreds of sites that give instant quotes seems a little sketchy because theres a bunch of identical sites, all of them ask for little to no info for the quote, they say send us the laptop THEN you get paid. Also the quotes are pretty low.
And sites like gazelle don't have a category for regular laptops.. only macbooks and iphones.
It's a hp dm4 1060 with a core i5, 4gb ram, 500HDD, 13" screen. Paid $650 for it 3 years ago i really want to get $300-350 for it at least, its worth a hell of alot more than that. Anyone have any advice?

You can use me as a referral. Same username. Introduce yourself and follow the sellers layout. They have a tablet/laptop forum.

[Q] Reselling a Nexus 6.

So i'm thinking about selling my nexus 6 on a facebook community buy/sell.
I usually give my devices to my family, but its not needed this time so i'm after some opinions on how much i should be asking for.
The phone is 3-4 months old, i lost the reciept recently but its around somewhere... 32GB, bought outright, so unlocked from any network, in perfect working condition. etc, there's just like maybe, 5 to 6 tiny little dints in the screen from keys in pocket :/. You literally cannot feel them, nor see them when the screen is on and takes certain angles to see them when screen is off (thats the only thing wrong with the phone, which i plan on telling on my post). I paid $876 AUD, do you think i could ask for $400-$500?
Opinions? If you were going to resell, what circumstances would you lower the price for & if you were i, how much would you ask for?
amazon is selling the n6 brand new at 399 for the 32gb version, so your $400-500 would be considered a joke, especially a device with a little bit of damage.
@rhystagram,
Your best bet is to go to Swappa.com and look at recent sold prices.

But Amazon is still selling it for much cheaper brand new. Most prospective buyers will look on Amazon first to see what prices are for both new and used.
What local retailers sell them for brand new means nothing when it can easily be attained somewhere else for a cheaper price.
I normally give people hell on those Facebook groups for asking entirely too much for a phone or tablet. Especially if it is used with even the slightest damage.
For instance, a woman was trying to sell a Droid Maxx for almost $400 USD claiming it was new and never pulled from the box, but her pictures clearly showed otherwise because of the damage on the phone and the fact that it didn't have any of the factory protective film on it anymore. The device in mint condition used only goes for about $150.
Basically, it's better to be fair instead of thinking you can charge top dollar for it. Much less troubles in the long run.
Good luck.

I'm sorry, but how is pointing out the proper process for preparing a Nexus 6 for resale completely missing the point? I'm trying to help you avoid future headaches. ???
If you're looking for resale prices, check completed listings on swappa or eBay.

I agree with checking eBay or local buy/sell/trade sites for prices to get a feel for how much it will cost.
Note this, however: Amazon Australia does not sell the Nexus 6 that I can find. It is true that there was a Prime Day deal today in the states for it (pretty sure it's over now), but Prime Day is only for the US site, not for the international versions.
Plus $500 AUD is $368 ish USD.
Mate. Put it on Gumtree. You could likely get around 400 to 450 bucks for it if it is indeed in the condition you say.
