Anyone notice the Nexus 7 tablet UI on Asus.com? - Nexus 7 General

Stumbled on the Asus landing page for the Nexus 7 and a bit down the page you'll see the tablet in landscape position with the tablet UI!
http://www.asus.com/Tablet/Nexus/Nexus_7/#overview

It's just a stock screen shot to show off tegra zone that has then been photo shopped onto the tablet. That is how most photographers do things to avoid the glare of camera flashes.

That's obvious, i'm pointing out the fact that they used that particular Tegra Zone 'screen shot' of the usual tablet UI instead of showing what it actually looks like on the N7! It is the landing page for an important product, should be treated that way lol

Its possible i guess, Im thinking there likely arent many images in their collection of Tegra Zone images in Landscape mode but with the Phone UI so they simply used what they had.

How did you even get it to even shift to the left side. Not that I want it to do that, but how do I get the Spare Parts to do it? Do you have to be rooted?
EDIT: Never mind. I turned off the Compatibility mode in Spare Parts and that did it. At least to shift the window over to the left. The opening animation is nearly full screen and that is different but not useful for the actual game on the screen.
Hmmm. Fills up the whole screen for me.

Ha, I don't know. I just have compatibility mode unchecked in spareparts. I did I a while ago for another game.
It works fine during gameplay too. The AI is pretty ridiculous though. If you have ever played poker in your life you will understand after seeing some of the hands they play...
I get it full screen no spare parts, not root.

I don't see a point to all the fuss, especially at that price. Apparently hardly any programs can even utilize that resolution so it scales it down anyways. If you're a video/photo editor then I can easily see the benefit. But for so many others who just use it for facebook and MS word, what's the point?

Besides the ridiculous pricing and the lack of programs supporting the screen's ability, I refuse to support Apple so long as their business practices include the inane lawsuit wars that they have been waging. I really don't care about the eliteist toolbags who use them sometimes because we have PC/Android/etc users who are the same, but I won't give a one cent to a company who conducts business like Apple does.
I still want this thing, and it didn't help that i checked out The Verge's review.

I read their review, on the machine itself, then took the pictures. The review doesn't really show how good the display is in real life. I really, really want to dual boot ML and W8 on it and turn it into a HDTV, along with finding an external Blu-Ray drive for it.
It's shocking how far ahead they are in build quality against the PC manufacturers.
Exactly. I want to dual/trippel boot OSX/Win7/W8. I'm not a gamer but it's also nice to know that it'll run most games just fine.

Not a good idea. The retina display means nothing but trouble with regards to Windows. Windows doesnt do well with really high resolutions. Don't expect any gaming at all either. The 650m isn't a terrible card, but if you put it under much stress, expect a lot of overheating. That chassis is just way to small to deliever adequate cooling.
Tldr: If you want windows, buy a native windows machine this time around.

Soft buttons major issue

I'm amazed that when in landscape the buttons don't stick to the right hand side like they do on the GNex, it's a terrible waste of real estate.
Do you guys have any ideas if a hack will be possible to achieve this? (Given it's the case with the GNex it can't be that hard I guess?)
Should be renamed to "Soft buttons minor annoyance"
Well you say that, I think I'm going to be DSR'ing the tablet due to it.
Eventually developers will make the Nav bar hideable and most likely moveable and smaller via dpi changes like on the Galaxy Nexus. You might want to give custom ROMs a chance to mature before returning the N7.

I believe modacos rom will be putting it like that real soon
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
its done for a reason.
the majority of newer phones are launching with the 1280x720 resolution with hard keys, and as a result, app devs are designing apps for 1280x720 resolution. our resolution is 1280x800, so what google does is rotate the keys so it uses the bottom 80 rows of pixels, leaving the rendering area at 1280x720 for games and apps. this way, we still get games and apps at full resolution, whereas with devices that keep the soft keys in the same place, the resolution gets cut down to 1196x720, and then games get shrunk to either 1196x720 or 1196x672 with black bars.
i personally have no problem with it at the moment, but ive only had my device for a few hours of play time. ideally, i'd like it relocated to the top so i dont hit it when im playing games, but tis a minor gripe.

Yep, one of many reasons why I wouldn't buy an iPad, I felt a custom mod would fix this and indeed it did
So both the Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 7 have dynamic capacitive buttons instead of actual physical buttons. I was actually under the impression that this black bar was a separate capacitive display from the main display. Now that I actually see a Nexus 7 in person, this black bar appears to be just a part of the screen.
So am I actually getting 1280 pixels?
If you have root, you can try GMD HideBar XDA.
And GMD GestureControl also supports Nexus7.
These are just root apps, not system mods.
So part of the 7" 1280x800 screen is being used by the controls... I guess except for videos and pictures.

Correct, apps can go full screen, like the default video player, but most don't which is very annoying playing games in landscape mode.
Just to follow up I've now enabled tablet UI (160 DPI) on the N7 and I think that deals with my issues with the softkeys, I will try a mod to anchor them to the right in landscape mod when a free one comes out.
We need a mod. A mod like the CM7 tablet settings, where you have the option to select "Softkeys Left, Right, etc". CM7 also options which softkeys you want, and in what order. Without changing dpi. That would be tits

Does Google plan to correct the Color calibration problem Grey Scale problems etc?

So I notice this more and more after someone on these forums mentioned it. But the colors on the Nexus 7 are off. Like Reddit or Google search results Blue links are slightly on the purpleish side. Can they even fix this via a software update ?
That being said its nor horrible to where I need to return it back to the store, but it puts a big down sid eon something I look at all the, now I am always comparing my colors to other Tablets.

Someone's butt hurts.
I think Google learned from the backlash with the Nexus S that you don't change a device's color calibration in the middle of its lifecycle. Google did that with the Android 2.3.3 update for the Nexus S. 2.3.2 and earlier had nice vibrant colors that really showed off that Super AMOLED display, but the dark grays were a bit purplish at low screen brightness. They released a "fix" in 2.3.3 which completely changed the color temp and the result was washed out colors and a general yellowish color tint which made it look like someone pissed on your screen. This pissed countless people off, and Google has never done anything at all about it. As of Jelly Bean, they're still using the piss yellow color temp on that screen.
Trust me, you don't want Google to fix this.

I would say no. In fact I wouldn't blame the display problems on software at all. I would blame them more on ASUS hardware. My Prime did a lot of the same thing (although much much worse). They just don't use the best components and being it is a sub $200 tablet I would bet the display isnt all that nice to begin with.
Actually,
I had not a single problem for 2 weeks, then I installed games that make use of the Tegra 3 videocard...played 20 min a game and suddenly....gray screen, washed out colors...after 10 min watching a video, suddenly the screen is back to normal and crystal clear.
Since playing those games for a short time, even the screen is gray and bright when I boot...or the battery symbol is popping up when the tab is turned off.
I suspect a hardware problem and something maybe went to hot inside and it is broken now. Also, along with the gray screen, I got ghosting as well. Will RMA mine.
Its kinda hard to tell for me.. im so used to AMOLED displays.. like the GS3 and Galaxy Nexus that i own.. also the One X has me spoiled.. but when i look at my two year old HTC LCD display i don't notice too much of a difference between the Nexus 7... but after a video or such i start notice light blues look a bit white.. like the facebook icon.. and the Orange on the headphones of the Google Music icon looks a bit greyish ..
I have no color issues at all. I wonder if I just got lucky?

There's an issue with the way the stock WebKit handles the display which isn't seen with other apps. I compared Chrome with Perfect Viewer here. So yes, there's a software problem. This might not account for all the variability people are describing, and there might be multiple software issues (see below), but it's certainly an important element.

I'm willing to bet it's just a bad batch issue, just like the users with the bezel clicking/unsticking and the backlight bleeds... especially after one user on here reported they took their old N7 back and before leaving the store, they fired up the new one to compare the two side by side. At that point they realized just how bad the old N7 screen was and just how sweet the new N7 screen looked.
I personally am quite happy with my unit, and have noticed the same color quality from other Nexus 7's that friends of mine own. In comparison to my newish laptop, it's remarkably similar in terms of color accuracy. That's also just comparing my laptop to it with the naked eye, but still. Food for thought.
I don't know the color on my device seems just fine. If it ain't broke don't fix it. I'm figuring it's a few rotten apples that have this issue.

Actually, with regards to embedded videos, it does not seem to work anymore for those that I have in my Pocket articles.
Just a "Couldn't load plug-in" error message.
But other than that, i think the new dialer does mirror my usage style of not keying in numbers all the time, but just that few contacts. nice feature there.

Yes but you're not going to like it. Uninstall Google Search completely from your device, then install the AOSP launcher from CM11 rom, it's the same as Google launcher without the Google Now integration. It doesn't gone an extra row for home screen either, but it does show more apps in the drawer.

Yes the dialer has been my main frustration for a long time, having no t9 support. When it did, the limited display of 3 contacts with only name + number was somewhat dissapointing, especially since htc implemented that feature from day one it seemed.
I do miss the opportunity to switch functions using a swipe though (the dialer pad button is a little hard to press wile on a bicycle ), but overall I think it's a huge improvement, especially with the mentioned bonus point that it identifies numbers from businesses that are not in my contacts!
I like how Google didn't give us transparency on stock /s
