How are you planning to access internet on the street?!
What was you thinking, Google?!
Not bad like a home only device.. but not having GSM even as an option - fail big time!

good trolling attempt

I actually prefer it that way. Then again I still have unlimited data on my phone and can tether off it if I really want. But with all the wifi hot spots nowadays I don't see it as a huge problem

Their thinking is you can use your Galaxy Nexus or pretty much any decent android mobile and the great functionality that is Wifi tethering.

I'd have liked 3G version as well since I want to use it out and about. Lucky as long as you have an android device, you can easily create a WiFi hotspot.

How I felt when I saw this post.

Well.. I was expecting somebody to offer tethering. It will work. But most of us have big screen devices like GNex etc. So if I will take my GNex from the pocket.. I will use it rather than will turn on the Tethering.
Hot spots are OK. But... well... It is not as available as GSM (and in some cases costs more than GSM; at least in Lithuania).
I have iPad with 3G. Maybe that's the reason I can't imagine tablet without GSM anymore

Some people expect too much from a $200 tablet. I feel we are already getting waaaaay more than we're paying for so people need to just shut up and be happy.

Yea, definitely specially when you look at the break down of the device and what they are really making from it, close to nothing.

So long as you have a data plan on your phone, and this also includes tethering, then you could just tether it to your phone for access to the internet on the go. But, frankly, a tablet in my opinion is designed to be a home device that only leaves home when on extremely long trips. On a day to day basis, smart phones suffice.

We are getting a few trolling topics whose only intent seems to be to discourage people from buying what appears to be an excellent tablet.
It is easy to spot them by the titles. "Anyone else disappointed" is a good candidate.
It would be nice to give them their own forum, maybe titled "You gotta be kidding".

It's not rocket science, don't like it - don't buy it.

Look at MOST POPULAR 7" tablets: Kindle Fire, Galaxy Tab, etc. None have GSM chip and yet they are selling like hot cakes...
I have Clear 4G with unlimited Internet for $25 / month. Backup is my Note via tethering.

Doesn't bother me, I would choose the wifi over 3g anyway. Whats the point in paying for a second data plan when I can tether.
I imagine 3g/4g versions will be available later if there is enough interest from mobile networks wanting to offer it.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk 2

Doesnt bother me from purchasing it. The only thing that I am upset about is not having USB OTG and MHL connecting out of the box. But that is something I can live with.
But with a 200 dollar tablet you really cant complain about a lot of things.

3/4G Model Not That Necessary These Days
Even if Google had offered a 3/4G model, I still would have bought the wifi version.
Why would I want to pay an additional $10 a month to add a tablet to my plan when I get free tethering / wifi hotspot?
I always carry my phone, whether I'm carrying the tablet or not. If I absolutely have to have a data connection on the tablet, no problem.

I've been practicing Bluetooth tethering with my galaxy tab 7 and my galaxy s showcase, in anticipation of my nexus, it will be little more inconvenient, but i don't think I'll miss 3g at all

How is there always someone who just has to complain about something. Im guessing you do not have the device seeing as how not having cell coveragei is such a big deal and so important to you. I said in a different thread and I swill say it here as well; I do have the Nexus 7 and it has taken all of my expectations and blownb them out the windows. This thing is as solid feeling as an IPAD but ten times more awesome, runs smooth as butter 24/7, and plays Tegra 3 games better and more clear than any other device I have seen, Hands down. FOR $200 bucks..?? I use my Galaxy Nexus as a hotspot and keep it on all day. When im in the car im charging the Galaxy onlky cause the nexus 7 has awesome battery. This topic is almost as bad as the one a few lines up that says "Disappointed in CPU perfomance" or something to that nature.. That's a ridiculous untruth or a faulty device.,

All tethering apps have been removed from the market!

Yeah. The title pretty much explains the situation in the ****ing "open" market. T-Mo decided to use its muscle to remove all apps that let people tether.
Yay open-ness. Seriously. What the hell.
Atleast I still got mine...Ive only had my G1 for a month, its rooted, and ive only used about 400mb (tracking from netsentry) this month using tmobile data.
I like being able to tether, that sucks they removed them..guess people will have to find them online...
sorry but you are wrong, i still see wifi tether for root on the market. sorry but you are wrong there are still tether apps out there, maybe search or update your handset
i have tether still
I still have the android.tether.apk file on my computer. I can reinstall anytime.
I noticed today also that all tethering apps have been removed. Why is this? Glad I already have "wife tether for root users" installed.
Not to be the noob here...but what is tethering?
I also do not see any tethering apps.....
Yes, looks like the tether apps were removed.

Sucks that T-Mo exerted their muscle, but I understand Google's position.
They didn't rip existing installs from devices, and they're not running around threatening to sue people for making the apps available elsewhere. With XDA we'll still be able to get apps like this anytime we want, and even better expert reviews of how well/poorly they work.
you can find some of them here slideme.org
They were removed from the market for a reason. Tmo doesn't want ppl leeching off a newly implement 3g network and causing problem for everyone else. You will use more bandwidth on a computer then through your phone, messing up other peoples experience. This is most likely the reason for the removal. It is an open source device that has the source available to anyone that wants to use it. But if it a service that is not offered by tmo and people are doing it anyway they are going to have it pulled. That is why you root your phone and then you can still use it. Tmo unlike att doesn't charge you and extra $10 or $20 (not sure of the price) to tether devices on there network. It just at this point is not a feature through tmo. It may be right now it is not. Remember it is a new network the 3g is and they are going to want to make sure it is working correctly for everyone. I guarantee that if they could be limited to only using 2g/edge to connect while tethering, it would not be a problem. You can't please everyone, some want consistent wireless service and don't want their rates to go up, some want tether and don't to be bothered to have pay for there own internet for the computer or use a wifi hotspot to connect.
The Irony of this was I was coming to xda to get the updated version of wifi tether. But you can't be mad at tmobile for stopping customer from breaking the rules as it is in your ToS that it is not intended for this purpose. Tmo does a lot of things for its customers as a courtesy and doesn't charge for them like other providers do.

thanks for the heads up, i just coppied anetshare to my SD
I had just performed a wipe when I saw that wifi tether was gone, however it was still in "my downloads"
This effing blows. So much for an open market. If this is how the market is gonna work then it's no better than Apple's app store. I don't care that I can get the apps from other sources, it's a matter of principle.
And the "T-Mo doesn't want people to leech off of their 3G network" excuse does not hold up either because far from all Android devices are running on a T-Mo network. My carrier does not give a damn if I tether or not. I have my 20 gigs of HSDPA per month to whatever I like with and when those 20 gigs are up I get 200 kbit/s unlimited to do whatever I like with. Android is supposed to be independent, not some effing playground where the big carriers can flex their muscles and make the Android experience ****tier for the rest of us. If T-Mo wants to block tethering apps, let them, but don't f-ing block them for all of us, Google.
Do no evil, huh?
I signed up for Web n Walk Max....
http://lastmile.t-mobile.co.uk/data...t_category_id=&product_manufacturer_id=#link6
Being able to tether is part of the T&C. Thats the whole point of getting the "Max" rather than just Web n Walk or Web n Walk Plus......
T-mobile USA doesn't have control over the market. They can ask Google to remove something but doesn't mean its going to happen.

Why would Google go out of their way to jeopardize a very good financial partnership with the only current carrier to offer their OS? I'm not saying I agree with them but it's best to understand both parties motives.

At&t is restricting on lte

Hi I had a smartphone personal unlimited that it had no restrictions to any sites. Now when I got the skyrocket they switch me to

And now it restricts me lots of sites and even on the market some apps.
I return the phone because of this crap and after 8 years with at&t I canceled my service.
Check your account plan see if they change anything and check sites on the web like streaming sites.
It doesn't let me stream like from justintv on lte but when I switch to wifi I have no problem.
well on my iphone i was using an unlimited plan for $30mon, with this vivid, im charged $30mon for unlimited. im not really understanding the difference here. im hoping its not something obvious but as far as i can tell, its the same service except i have 4g
edit
i think i get it, its restricting data intensive apps. well tbh, im glad they do that. imagine everyone doing data intensive apps on the network... it will make it slow and might even crash it. when i go to the local theme park, no one can hardly use the internet on there phones cause its so slow that many times it will just time out. so many people are using there phones while theyre waiting in lines that the cell tower cant handle it all.
There is no difference for me.
Good, now people can't hog so much data, it won't kill the network.
In all honesty, all you probably have to do is root the phone, and kill some background app, and you'll have full functionality again.

I am not on any kind of grandfathered plans. On Premier it shows DataPro 2GB Personal for 4G LTE Smartphones
Edit:
---------- Post added at 09:47 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:26 AM ----------
I thought maybe if being on the enterprise data plan might remove the blocking and changed to the 4GB Enterprise Data. But still being blocked.
Well first I am Glad they are limiting things as stated before it will keep network intensive stuff down which should in turn make the network in general function better. Also if I recall correctly on a different device there where apps that were blocked from being installed over 3g but once root was achieved it was bypassed so I wouldn't worry about it too horribly much considering I think the change was in the software.

And you want a lovely nice bottle neck with that too right? Considering if they allow Large files to go down they will Bottle Neck considering the network they have is still shoddy I mean hell look at what happened when the 1st iPhones were released and Everyone was downloading stuff almost immediately...Network Crashed. So Either it's yay have unlimited and watch the network crash because it got too congested and Not be able to use your Data At All or deal with the slight restrictions and go home or to a Wi-Fi area which there are plenty of and Download the stuff there.
But as I stated in the post prior I am guessing it is probably throttled some where in the software like previous phones have been and it is just a matter of rooting and finding the code and changing it.

Works just fine on the Dolphin Broswer.
As for limiting, this also says it on 3g, however my corporate exchange and intranet sites work just fine. I have yet to have anything blocked except the same things many people do like block file size for an app that wants you to use WIFI.
i've had no problems so far...a few hickups while video chattin..but otherrwise im enjoyin my $30.00 unlimited plan.
I have had the Family Unlimited Data Plan for years, Since the Blue Angel, then Apache.
My Data is $30/Mo. Unlimited for all my lines with throttling to faux-g (as I cleverly heard it put) starting after 10Gb of Data.
Your plan was not a Smartphone data plan it seems to me. Looks like you reaped the benefits of it for some time, time to pay the piper.

Free Nexus 7 with Google Fiber!!!

Google Fiber
If you get internet plus TV for $120 per month, you get a free N7 for the remote. With a 2 year contract.
Only catch seems to be moving to Kansas City.
And according to this article, the general public got the N7 a week after the I/O. Someone didn't really check his facts.
At any rate, I hope google fiber works out in KC.
I'm in KC.. and I sure wish the coverage maps were looking a bit better. Or I hope they plan to expand. I currently know no one that lives in the covered area.
Imagine being a mile or two from where the cutoff is currently. If I never get it because of that 2 miles. ugh
I will move but I won't be happy about it. lol
Essentially the plan is TV and Internet, for 120 a month. If you sign a 2 year agreement they waive the 300 install fee.
Your remote control is a Nexus 7 tablet. You can watch on 8 different tv's. 500hour dvr, and 1tb cloud storage.
This is going to put Comcast and Time Warner along with all the others when it goes to other cities out of business. I'm all for it.

Live in kc. I've only heard good things about fiber

Google Fiber (TV service)

http://www.theverge.com/2012/7/26/3188845/google-fiber-tv
Looks like Google is getting into the television service providing game. $120/mo is waaay too high for TV IMO. Thoughts?
The free Nexus 7 is nice (but not $120 a month nice since it's $250 for the 16gb), being able to stream from Android devices is nice, but with a service like tv the only way they can oust the monopolies is to beat them on price point. I can't justify spending $120 a month on just tv when I get internet and tv for less than $100 from my local monopoly.
Take out the commercials without the use of the dvr then I might justify paying that much. Also if you are going to play reruns dont just rerun 12 different episodes
LOL Cool idea but too expensive.

I've never understood the idea of commercials on anything other than the free over the air channels. I already pay for the tv service, why am I being advertised to like I didn't?!
Google fiber is also a broadband networking service in Kansas city
Read theorion.uk.mn
That's cool but definitely not worth 120 a month.

You're paying to be able to receive the channels, you're not paying for the channel itself (that's why starz, hbo, and cinemax are extra, they don't have commercials).
Depends though.. What exact features are coming with the package? I mean it is a bit pricey, but if it offers something another service won't besides a free Nexus 7 "Win!" Than it would be worth looking into.
From my understanding it would be wise to drop DirectTV and Dish at this point because I've heard they dropped plenty of channels an average consumer watches, AMC/Comedy Central etc.
I'd be using Verizon right now if my apartment supported them :/
Have to rely on crappy charter unfortunately.
Got to admit though.. the internet sounds mind blowing, imagine playing your console online lol.. everyone would be pissed

Yeah boooo DirecTV, I would have dropped them the second they took my Comedy Central.
Did you guys happen to see the download speed? At 5gbs for download and 1gbs for upload. Yeah I'm pretty sure the packages are worth it. Oh yeah and the 1024gbs of Google drive free as well?

That explains it better than Verge did.
I guess $120 could be plausible, just depends.

It is free internet, can't really complain? Household average, seems about correct. Charter gives me about 10-20mbps "Not really" they are ripping me off completely even after I've complained and argued.
I was suppose to be getting 30mbps, charter is not trust worthy at all.
But.. you get the Google package, wade out the two years :/ you have a nexus 7, free internet and now you can drop them for the low package (which I didn't see them mention in the article) for ever how much it is. Then get the bad ass internet.
I'm sure its more complicated than that but from a gist that's what I gathered someone would probably do.

Nobody can troll Google like Google can.
Google and Valve are the only tech companies that really "get" humor.

Sounds like you don't have a docsis 3 modem, I recommend the Motorola Surfboard Gigabit Docsis 3. I'm on the same as you and I always get 30+. Charters equipment sucks, and you have to lease it for a monthly fee. Just buy your own. Wifi speedtest attached.

I love the Portal "Turret" video! Valve does have a great sense of humor.
Edit: 888 thanks, cool. Nobody press my "thanks" button anymore!
Edit2: Prototype7 you $&@! I still have a screenshot haha.
Oh I have a Motorola but clearly isn't up to standards lol

Is it a Docsis 3? That's going to be the biggest factor.
