[Q] Need tips regarding CM7 issue - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Couple days ago I flashed cm7 on my phone, at first everything worked fine and it was awesome. I should mention that I'm new to the modding scene. Anyways I'm having problems with my mobile network. I can't make any calls because apparently my phone cannot find my mobile network.
I've done a little research and I think I might have to flash my radio which should be no problem. I've read forums and have tried to find the appropriate "modem.bin" for my phone but some of the threads date back to a year or longer. Does anybody have a link to the best modem for my phone/rom?
This is the rom I flashed cm-7.2.0-galaxysmtd.zip from the cyanogenmod download site (won't let me post links -.-)
My other options I suppose would be to flash another rom and hope it works.
EDIT
I found this post ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9579987&postcount=11945 ) and it turns out that JK3/JK4 modems work for Bell in Canada. Just wondering, do the modems have to be compatible with roms?

ya the modems have to be compatible.. actually samsung code based roms and google code based roms have different installation files for modems
for me the KB3 and KF1 modems from this link CM7 modems ported from Nexus S work best..

When i first moded my i9000 it had its modem changed akd i got horrible reception. Like i wouldnt get service at the back of the grocery store, where my mom would get full bars on her stock phone. So i flashed to kg3. It is the stock i9000 gb modem. If you can't find it, pm me, I have a flashable zip on my computer!

Thanks for the replies!
I guess I'll try and flash KB3 or KF1 first and see if I get any good results, I'll update my post when I do. I suppose I should also read up on android devices to try and get a sense of how things work. Does anybody know any good educational sites for android? Thanks again for the help! it's appreciated.

Thanks for the tip, I know xda is an awesome site for information but I feel like the info is all over the place and sometimes a little challenging to find. I was looking for a more organized source of info.

I flashed the KF1 radio but I still don't connection to my carrier (msg: mobile network not available). I'll keep searching the forums to check if anyone has had the same issues. Any input would be appreciated, not quite sure what it could be at this point.

Thanks again!

You can thank this post . But on xda old theme go to edit > advanced.

[Q] No soloution anywhere i look, needs some serious help guys.

hi all,
when i first got my galaxy s it was locked to Orange (UK Network) and i unlocked the phone to be used on any network, and have been happily using it for well over half a year, i also attempted to flash the F1 SG2 Rom, however, there wasnt enough space on the partition so i flashed the phone back to XXJVQ (which i had on the phone before trying to install the F1 ROM) however, now my phone doesn't recognise the SIM that i put in, im wondering if the flash had anything to do with it or if the phone has locked itself. i have been researching around and some people have said that its something to do with efs or IMEI, i have no clue what that means but its sounds important, they also say that you need backups of these and that they contain phone files, however, if they were important there would be more emphasis placed on backing them up...
anyone who has had the same issue or someone who knows whats going on please help. everything else works fine, so is there a way to get my phone to read the SIM again without risking totally bricking the whole thing??
an (easy to understand) guide on how to fix this would be much appreciated...
thank you.......
flash a new modem file.. cause u may have corrupted your modem while flashing.. if that does not work change kernel( helped me once)..

Flash a kernel with root........ There's plenty in the development thread. You could also flash a new modem. Very simple.

Your imei is the code that identifies your phone. Look in settings, about phone, status.
Have you tried reflashing your rom?
If all else fails, i would recommend a flash of jm9 with odin. Files can be found at samfirmware.com. It's got me out of some deep black holes in the past!
Don't stress too much mate, there's been plenty of times that my phone hasn't recognised my sim when flashing cm7.
Reflash your rom, if that doesn't work, flash jm9, and most of all, relax.
S.U.R.F.A.C.E 2.something
Worth trying the simple things, take out sim, clean and reinsert, this has worked for me in the past, and when you do get going again get sgs toolbox and with that you can make a back up of your efs folder, check your imei against the label on box that phone came in

Theres only 1 thing. Im running Gingerbread w.e.r XXJVQ not Froyo. :0 will flashing this help?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Jm9 helps everything - trust me.
When you flash a rom with odin it completely wipes your phone. The process of getting cm7 2.3.4 on your phone involves flashing back to froyo or eclair first.
You seem hesitant, if you're worried, i suggest you spend a few days reading up. Try the sticky on rooting/flashing in the development section.
P. S. There's a thanks button at the bottom of every post.

Well, I guess you should flash another modem file, which is working well for your region/carrier (use google . A modem file defines how the radio part of your phone works, it has an influence on signal strenght/network speed (and might have influence on battery life, too).
You can flash a modem file via Odin or if you have a custom kernel you can do it via the >install zip from sd card<. If you are new to this, you can find a guide here. You can find further info on flashing in the second post of that thread.
If you are familiar with Odin, you should follow the instructions written here.
Or download a CWM-flashable zip from here and use the install zpi from sdcard method.
On a sidenote, using Odin or a custom kernel voids your warranty...
If it's still a no-go with a new modem file, you should consider taking your phone to a service.
I hope I could help Plz hit thanks
Thanks very much for the reply. Ill hit thanks when im on my pc haha yeah erm ill look that up. I am familier with odin so ill look into it. Cheers mate!

[Q] Help plz!!

A friend tried messin around with his tab when he doesnt even know how to jailbreak an iphone 3g... The tab wouldnt even boot past the Samsung Galaxy Tab screen, but it was able to get to download mode... I used a guide to update it to gingerbread using odin, and everything went well! I opened odin, selected PIT and chose the P1_add_hidden.pit file, then i selected PDA and chose the P1000NVFJP6_P1000NUBJP3_P1000NUUBJPB_HOME.tar.md5 file, and i made sure i checked Re-Partition, Auto Reboot, F. Reset Time, Phone EFS Clear and Phone Bootloader Update.. everything went well, but on recovery it was unable to update the systemfile.. but everything else on recovery updated and installed fine! as it reboots, it gets stuck in the bootanimation in the part it says Samsung glowing.. did i do something wrong? how can i fix this? I am still able to get to recovery and download mode fine..
Use overcome method like described here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1855591
Btw, you should not have checked Clear Efs.
The replace bootloader too.
And best to use Odin 1.7 included in the gb stock safe in that link I give you.

thanks! will check this out now!
Why do some people think its rational to use absolutely ridiculous titles like "hlp plz" etc etc??
Please use common sense and use descriptive titles, ie a short title that describes your topic for people browsing the forum. "help plz" does not describe your topic in absolutely any way other then somebody using a completely generic title.

Do a factory reset, install the standard rom and check if that fixes the problem. Calling a kernel crap with no justification is not going to help you get some help from the community.
If you dont like the development done by some of these developers who are basically providing a service literally free, you acknowledge, try and move on if you dont like. Dont throw things you cannot pick up.
It appears to me you screwed up your mobile flashing rom's and Kernel with no real intelligence on identifying the problem or fixing the same.
Try resetting your mobile to your standard set up and that should fix your radio issues.
so what kernel are u on now?

Hopefully Philz kernel will sort out the problem. Its is pure stock with only brickbug removed (+advanced recovery) so there wont be any bugs that are sometimes found in custom kernels. Needless to say, it is 100% safe for wiping and flashing:thumbup:
