try this Rhythm File Manager HD version for tablet
best file manager in market i ever seen :good:

TC the best in PC, but for android the X-plore file manager the "best file manager in market i ever seen".

Check out AntTek File Explorer. I have been satisfied with it after also trying File Manager HD.
It has a tablet optimized layout, customization options, a cleaner look and supports operations on system files and other handy features, such as checksum calculation, archive extraction and creation.

I've used Total Commander for many years, on PC's, WM, and now also on Android.
This has always been the file explorer to use. My most used program on these platforms ever.
Don't forget the many useful plugins (adons). If you are using TC on PC, install the Windows Media Plugin from here to have easy file access to your android device via MTP.
Sztupy made an ADB plugin for TC some time ago. Look here and here.
It's also easy to connect to your PC via network from TC on your android device. (Just remember to install the plugin from Gogle Play or here)

How to Change File Associations in WM 6.1

I recently upgraded my Acrobat Reader without uninstalling the former version. Everything worked fine. Then I uninstalled the old version and it seems to have taken the file association for PDFs along with it. While looking for a solution, I found a lot of complicated schemes to modify the registry (no thanks), install a tweak program and do it from there (better, but why complicate things), etc. But it was actually quite simple. So for anyone who's in a similar predicament...
Here's how to set a file association in WM 6.1:
1. Open File Explorer and find a file of the type you want to associate to an app.
2. Hold down the stylus on the file name for a couple seconds (til you get the context menu) and choose "Open with program..."
3. Choose a program from the list on the top part of the resulting window, then check the box labeled "Associate selected Program with this file type."
4. Hit Open.
5. You may get a message to overwrite current association if there was a previous app associated with the file type, chances are you'll want to go ahead and overwrite so it will remember the association you prefer.
You're done!
This works great if you want to open some multimedia files with one program and others with a different program. For instance, I couldn't get Media Player to open my .AVI files, but it was the default association, now I set .AVIs to TCPMP and all is working great! ( I know TCPMP is one of the few programs that lets you set the association, this is just an example - and it was actually easier doing it as described above!)
That menu option's not there
I've got 6.1, but "open with program" is not a choice that pops up. I looked under properties, and it's not there either. Are you using a 3rd party file explorer?
You need File Explorer Extension, here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=421723&highlight=file+explorer
Nice!
Thanks for the tip!
I have a several different media players, and this is just what I needed to choose which program opens what file type.
Thanks again!
Thanks guys, really good software that complement very well the unfinished software of Microsoft..
Great for removing the "DocsToGo" association!
I was really getting sick of being unable to open email attachments because I didn't choose to shell out for the DocsToGo bloatware on my AT&T Fuze. Great fix!
Thanks!!!!
MadSci
Thanks for the software but there is a problem
The file explorer is amazing. But I am facing a problem. I have an HTC Touch 3G running windows mobile 6.1. When I use this file explorer to change the file association, it successfully changes. However, the icon of the program it is associated with doesn't appear on the left of the file name. Only the windows icon appears to the left of the file name. However whenever I click on the file, it does open with the required software/player. But because the icon of the file type it is associated with does not display, it becomes slightly confusing for me to make out with which software will it open.
Thanking you in anticipation for the help!!
thanks a lot
FExplorer ext is a gr8 tool. It solved my file association problem for .jpg files.
Thank a lot again.
I tried to install FEE on my WM6.1 smartphone (non touchscreen) but it gives an error and won't install saying it's not designed for my device.
Has anyone found a way to install it, or found a similar free product to change file extensions?

There's any way to Vito SMS chat instead default WM app for SMS managemment ?
Thank you
very very thnx to you
still not the correct icons ?
same as @sahilhshah.
Changing the file associations in either described way is working fine. But the icons are still the windows system icons.
Interestingly viewing the icons from the files which are not corrected to the specific program icon, in the taskmanager, I can see the right icons.
Any ideas?
Using Total Commander for Pocket PC u can change file association and file icon as well, it will be coresponding to specified program. Just give it a try
(That's my firsth post on this great forum )
Hi people.
Could you help me? I tried to change the file association, as explained, but my phone isn't touch screen (is a Samsung Jack) and the File Explorer Extension doesn't work.
Someone know a way for change the file association on Win 6.1?

Thanks in advanced.

Shortcut to the "Programs-folder" from Xperia-panel

I would like to have a shortcut from my Xperia-panels, I mean the two originals from SE, to the Programs list that you usually access via Start->Programs
I tried to just make a normal shortcut to the folder via the file explorer. The shortcut works via the file explorer but when I put it on my panel it doesn't work, I only get a error message. Is there any way to get this to work?
The reason is that I thought it would be nice to instead of having alot of shortcuts on my desktop to just have like the four most recently used and one to the Programs there instead of via the Startmenu for single handed operation.
Dude I'm looking for this for ages (ie. 2 months). So far I found nothing.
Come on! There must be someway to fix this and a greater request for it than us two?
Check this thread .. but it holds no answer.

Try market for "file jump".
Didn't come across a free version tho.
Its a fairly big miss for the makers not to have stock. :-(
Linda file manager - free and does it.

Android friendly online file storage?

Hi there,
I was just wondering if anyone knows of file storage sites that have mobile friendly pages. Something like DropBox would be ideal.
Today I am on a library computer and have a folder of word files I really want to read on my Magic on the train on my way home but can't use USB to mount my SD. I tried zipping and emailing it to myself but gmail didn't let me download the zip file. I had a preview option but that just tried and failed to open it in Astro. I love Zoho writer's mobile version for viewing files but that doesn't let me batch import. Most free backup services have hugely bloated web clients and wouldn't play nicely with a mobile browser.
Anyone heard of such services/apps?
Setup an FTP server at home and use AndFTP on your phone to connect to it. It's probably the easiest and then you also have full control over your own files. FileZilla server is free and fairly easy to setup.

For that you'd have to let your PC run when you're away... pretty useless.
You turn your computer off when you're away? :O
Pretty useless reply if I may say so.
@rahux: Did you try uploading files without zipping them? It may be a hassle if there are many files... Maybe you could just rename the zip file to .txt or something like that and you may be able to download it.

If it is just word files you want to view. Upload the files to google docs. Then get 'gdocs' from the market and away you go.

Astro SMB

How to use Astro SMB module? I cant connect to my PC with it .. I am currently using another SMB app called File Expert and it works fine.. I want to try Astro SMB module since I just loved its file manager.. Can anybody tell me how to set up astro?
Are you working with Windows Vista or 7?
In that case, newer SMB underlying protocol used by those systems might explain it, your client needs to support it.
Yeah I am using 7..
So, astro wont work?
You can do a check - perform this:
http://www.tannerwilliamson.com/2009/09/windows-7-seven-network-file-sharing-fix-samba-smb/
And try to connect. If it works - then it's the only way, due to the reason I wrote above. It's downgrading the share security, but I guess for most home networks it's not important at all.
I'm running several shares on my network, most are linux smb shares but there are a couple windows shares as well. Astro refuses to access any of them.
I installed estrong file explorer, all shares are visible and I have access to all of them. So my suggestion is to give estrong a shot. Free app with no ads

Hi,
I've Windows Xp, but Astro SMB doesn't work. Instead, Estrongs File Explorer it's able to see my pc, to connect my galaxy s with it and to let me see on the phone shared document.
But I prefer Astro SMB, so anyone can tell me how to configurate Astro to make it work?
Thanks
Look at the link posted above.
sorry, but isn't the link above only for windows 7?
I've got windows xp
The link above is for Windows 7 and Vista, indeed. Sorry, I kinda missed that part of your post.
If Astro SMB doesn't work with your Windows XP - there are 2 options: 1) if you have a corporate laptop or something - it might be set to use the same sharing security as Win7 and Vista, and then you need to do the same thing as described in the link. 2) if not - then it's probably some problem with configuration, and people might be able to help you with it. What exactly are you trying to do, and what is the result? Please describe.
no, my pc isn't a corporate laptop but an home pc.
I want to create a network between my galaxy s with android and my home pc, using my router wifi.
So i've installed smb module for Astro. Then i've selected new network--->smb. After that step, the phone ask me some information. For exactly:
-Label
-Server
-Domain
-Shared folder
-User
-Password
I've try to set as Server the IP of my pc and as user and password that one I use to access on Windows Xp. But Astro gives me the error: "unknown user or bad password".
I'd like that someone who use Astro for networking with windows Xp would tell me how to configure the net.
With Estrongs Explorer files i had no problems: when i've selected "lan", the software has searched automatically avaiable devices and found my pc with his IP. Then i've selected "connect" and Shared folders appared on my phone...
You don't need to enter user credentials to connect to common share, if I'm not mistaken. Try without username and password, only server and shared folder.

In this way it gives another error: SocketTimeoutException: socket is not connected
I've finally decided to use ES file explorer.
Ty however
Turn off simple file sharing in any explorer window. Folder, options, third tab (forget label), drill to bottom and deselect simple file sharing. Check firewall... and you should have your shares pw protected. I usually just go to my serger and put c$ in the folder field.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Finally worked
So finally i was able to share files between ASTRO & my Win7 Ulti laptop.
Assuming your settings at PC end are correct, here's what you need to do in ASTRO,
Under, Networks>New>SMB, Just fill in the..
Server: <your pc local ip, say, 192.168.1.2>
Username: Guest
Password: <blank>
I filled only the above mentioned fields, leaving everything else blank.
The above setting will work if you have simple sharing enabled on your pc with no username/password, as it was in my case or you may use the username/password for your window's login. Also see that the file/folder you are trying to share has atleast Read permission for 'Guest' account.
It should work now.
But i encountered a new problem now, i was keen to use ASTRO as i thought it will be able to play videos from my PC but when i try to open file using the Video Player, it gives some crashing sort of error & closes. However, i am able to play the same file from my memory card using Video Player.
Any solution??
Use Samba mount command from Development section, to mount your PC share as a directory under /sdcard.
I think thats possible only with rooted phones, plz correct me if i am wrong..
My phone is not rooted.
I can't verify it, but I think mount should work with non-rooted phones too, as long as you have busybox and your kernel supports CIFS (it's a good question if the stock one does - I believe you're running stock?)...

I'm able to connect to all my PCs very quickly and easily. Besides, they are working on Root permissions as well, so this can be a root explorer (currently only CM is supported).

sFTP client for rooted Nook Simple Touch

Has anyone got any recommendations for a sFTP client that works well on the Nook? My first port of call was AndFTP, which I've used successfully for years on my phones, but crashes after adding a server, and crashes every startup thereafter. My second port of call was estrongs file manager, but that curiously does the same thing!
EDIT: I've also tried FtpCafe (which has the same problem), and older versions of AndFTP.
ES File Explorer does SFTP very well.

Thanks. I'm sure I tried ES File Explorer and found the same problem, but maybe it was an older version. The version I have installed currently works indeed.
Thanks!
Ghost commander?
It runs in super user mode so you can work in in the root folders, It does samba to access windows drives and ftp works fine. There is an sFTP client add on. Check it out.
Best ftp client, old nc style file manager too, this plugin for total commander:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2574655
For ftp server I use Servers Ultimate (Pro version).
