USB DAC Support? - Nexus 7 Accessories

Has anyone who has the nexus 7 already tried a regular usb dac yet? I'd really like to get a fiio e7 and try it out but not waste the money if it doesn't work. I can also maintain this thread with a list of working dacs if we can figure out if any work.

DAC
I am also very Interested In this. I will be getting a tube magic D1 USB DAC and I will see if it works. I am unsure if USB DACS will work but now that Jelly Bean supports USB audio well have to wait and see. I have not gotten my N7 yet but once I do I will be eager to see whether this will work or not.

Don't get your hopes up, as early reports are they won't. Of course, unless the hardware will simply not support it, it's only a matter of time until a custom solution becomes available.

I'm sure we will eventually get working DACs, just looking for any reports that it's working on any existing DACs.

Does not work with my E7 or E17 because Google have not used a standard USB audio implementation. I don't think it will work with any USB DACs unless they are made specifically for it. Disappointing since my Archos G9 and S3 do both work with standard USB DACs.

This was my setup:
A USB OTG cable to a USB to Audio adapter.
It didn't work, and all I got was a loud buzz
I included pictures.

when I get my n7, I'm gonna try my Logitech G330 dongle.

Any news about USB dac?

This is completely epic. Thanks for looking out... I'll be trying to put together a passable portable audio rig for around $200. I'm pretty excited about this right now!

i have an Ibasso d2 dac on the way next week, cant wait to try out with my nexus 7, would you mind uploading a copy of your altered asound.conf file? I know its a simple copy and paste into it.. but i messed up my nexus last week doing the same for the front camera 720p profile recording and dont want the same to happen again.. although i've since taken plenty of backups etc!
Cheers,
Mick

Do you experience any out of sync for audio and video on the screen with a DAC?

"eXtream Software Development has managed to get USB audio recording working on Android 3.1 or higher devices! By writing a custom USB audio driver from scratch, both USB audio playback and recording will be possible for a lot of USB audio standard compliant devices.
The driver will completely bypass Android including Android's incapable audio system. The advantages of USB audio and our driver are plenty:
* Finally you will have decent connectivity to your Android device: connect mics with XLR, line inputs, instrument levels inputs, depending on your USB device
* Playback and record in 16 or 24 bit
* Lower, but more important, predictable latency that can fully and automatically be compensated for
* Zero-latency monitoring on the devices that support it
* Control hardware level input gain on the devices that support it
* Multitrack recording capability
The USB audio recorder will be available as a stand-alone app and the USB audio driver will be available as an in-app purchase in our flagship multitrack audio sequencer, Audio Evolution Mobile. Currently, only USB audio spec 1.0 is supported, but this will be solved in a subsequent release. Both USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 devices will be supported however.
Requirements will be an Android 3.1 or higher device and the device must support USB 'host' mode. Most recent devices have 'host' mode luckily. If your device has a micro-USB port, you can connect to full-size USB using a so-called USB OTG cable. No rooting of your device is required.
Testers wanted:
If you are interested in a pre-release alpha version and meet the following requirements, please send an email to info AT audio-evolution.com:
You have one or more Android devices that meet the requirements
You have one or more USB audio devices
You are fluent in English writing
You usually answer to emails within 2 days"

Is any DAC working with the 4.2.1 update on the Nexus 7 WITHOUT root or custom kernel? Maybe I will root it but I don't want to flash the kernel....
Any experience?
I've tried a EDIROL UA-1X with my OTG cable but it did not work. This DAC is plug n play in windows...
Thanks!

[Q] Micro usb stereo audio output?

Hey everyone,
Having a bad GPS -signal as soon as I plug in my headphones (which renders GPS tracking basically useless for me), I am looking for alternative ways of using my headphones while doing sports. Searching the Internet, I came across various microUSB to headphone adapters (e.g. serach on amazon for: "LinkS Micro USB to VGA MHL Adapter+Micro 5pin to 11pin adapter + Charging Cable in Black 3 Feet Kit" or "Universal Micro USB Interface to 3.5mm Plug Earphone Adapter (Black)", I have not enough posts to post links/images, yet). Now I am wondering if our phone will support these adapters and if yes, can I control the volume of the output?
Many thanks in advance!
Using an USB audio device requires USB OTG which our device doesn't support.
Hey @Adam77Root but we have working mhl which anyway is using microusb port. And iodaks kernel have working otg too.
Edit: android L seems will have support for USB audio devices IF they have working otg

MHL uses a different method.
If there is working OTG, USB audio support is enabled in the kernel and USB audio HAL is included in the rom, it can work. Older versions too support it.

USB Passthrough to DAC on Lollipop works on Nexus 5!.

I just had a co-worker who has a nexus 5 receive the Lollipop update (just plug & play). We just tested with my FiiO E18 and I can confirm that it passes audio via USB to the DAC flawlessly without issue. If you have a DAC and could not use it with your Nexus 5 before rejoice!.
So I need a car-charger USB DAC combo ASAP so I can stop using the incredibly weak headphone out.
Does anyone make one?
OMG this is awesome! finally thanks for pointing this out
Successfully tested a Terratec Phase 26 USB with my Nexus 5, analogue and SPDIF outputs work just fine.
Audio IN
It would be even better if an ADC would also be supported. High quality audio INput.
Hmm, anyone with a suitable USB stick to try?
Edit: ac tually: it seems to work. See http://www.extreamsd.com/USBAudioRecorderPRO/

I can confirm, the USB audio input is working. I tested with a cheap usb sound adapter and a simple headphone + mic combo.

[Q] USB Audio DAC

Has anyone successfully paired a USB DAC to the Nexus 6? I know Android 5.0 is supposed to have USB audio support, but 4.4 was too and that didn't work natively on the Nexus 5.
I'm looking into getting the FiiO E18 but want to know if it will actually work without having to install Cyanogen.
I haven't tried my E17 with my phone before, but now you have me curious... I think I need a usb2go cable too, right?

OnePlus 3T out video to monitor via hdmi

I want to connect a 27 inch monitor or projector.
From the official support says (ticket #770598, from Sky) that phone 3T supports out video via HDMI
I understand that you wanted to know if OnePlus 3T supporte USB to HDMI. I can provide you with the information that you needed.
I would like to inform you that OnePlus 3T supports HDMI as long as it is connected to the OTG cable/ converter.

Phone have usb type c version 2.
My questions:
1. This phone is really support hdmi alt mode? I don't see the image HDMI (or DisplayPort or Thunderbolt) alternat mode on the box.
2. If (1) is true. Any cable good for me? Ex. usb type c multiport adapter from apple store or necessarily with OTG?
3. How big is the latency video of through miracast (ex. ezcast)? If connect mouse and watch on cursor movement.
I tried this yesterday with a USB C to Hdmi adapter I got off Amazon and I had no luck connecting to the monitor.

I think they sold me a dud
Phone not supports MHL and other alt. mode
II wonder if a driver could be put into a ROM to support it via USB OTG since it doesn't support MHL?
I have an old external sound card, a Creative Xmod, that works perfectly with my roommates USB C, OTG adaptor.

I think because it is not implemented in hardware in the phone
If I'm correct Display Port alternate output requires USB Type-C 3.1 since the phone supports only 2.0 it shouldn't work. However not many phones utilise this feature even Google Pixel doesn't use this mode
Video out works fine on the 3T but only with Displaylink adapters. (So far anyway)
I have one and can confirm it definitely works either via HDMI or HDMI to DVI (I've tried both)
I used this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N40RQV4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
but any displaylink adapter or dock will work. (Make sure it very specifically says dispaylink, check the displaylink website if you aren't sure)
The only note is that displaylink says the Ethernet ports on the docks do not work with android.
(I suspect they might work on devices that support a regular Ethernet adapter though, I haven't been able to get a normal Ethernet adapter working on my oneplus 3t though for what that's worth.)
you will also need the displaylink app from the playstore though it does not have to be running.
if any of you have experience using an external Audio DAC with USB Audioplayer pro the process is very similar.
Once you plug the monitor in, a pop up will ask if you want to let the displaylink app control the adapter and if you hit "ok" it does the rest automatically.
Does the phone charge while connected to the DisplayLink adapter?
Just try with Chromecast or anything else with Mirascreen option
Does it work with Anker Premium USB-C Mini-Dock
Hi there everybody:
Have anyone tried to connect a dock like the Anker Premium USB-C Mini-Dock, Does OP3T work for charge and to view the USB ports of the dock? May be HDMI and Ethernet doesn't work but for me the matter is the chargue and the USB ports to connect an external DAC, a microsd and a pendrive. Regards.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 with external DAC via USB

Hi,
Samsung removed a support for listening to music via USB. I can't listen the music through my Fiio.
I called in support and there I was "explained" that support for playback is not guaranteed, since usb contact is only 5 mm. I use their own adapter micro-USB to USB-C, but support again repeats the same mantra: not guaranteed playback.
The Samsung Note 8 has USB audio capabilities, it has not been removed. It also has Samsung Pro Audio Support from the testing I have done. You have to use an OTG cable or adapter for it to work. Use the regular Female USB to Male USB-C OTG adapter that comes with the phone to get it to work, the micro USB to USB-C adapter is not an OTG adapter. I have the Zorloo Z:ero In-Ear Headphones (these are micro USB and work with adapter), Zorloo ZuperDAC, the AudioQuest Dragonfly v1.5, and a Fiio Alpen 2 E17K, they all work great for me with the Female USB to Male USB-C OTG adapter. Also what media player are you using on your Note 8? I have no problems with PowerAmp (beta) and USB Audio Player Pro. The USB Audio Player Pro states it works with these USB DACs:
Just a selection of our supported DACs:
• Audioquest Dragonfly
• Cambridge Audio DacMagic 100
• Centrance Dacport LX / HiFi M8
• Cypherlabs AlgoRhythm Solo
• FiiO E7/E10/E17/E18
• HRT Microstreamer
• Ibasso
• iFi nano iDSD / micro iDAC
• M2TECH
• Meridian Explorer
• NuForce uDAC / Icon HDP
• NwAvguy ODAC
• and many more!
It Works!!!
I have a Fiio E-18 Kunlun and it works fine on the N8 through the USB C port. I had to purchase a new cable from Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072PVJ96B/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
That is the 4' cable. I also purchased the 6" cable.
You might try to tune the audio on the N8 to your hearing using settings. I think it was the adaptive audio or something similar. I think it improved sound quality for me.
Thank you, friends. I will go to buy one more cable.
Hi I have exactly the same headset and bought what I was told was an otg adapter on amazon - but trying to play deezer does not work - do I have to download another player? will it then only play music I have on the phone? (I have none)
^ Another piece of advice guys, consider using Viper4Android, when hearing the difference with/without it, it's like day and night. Amazing bass control, full equalizer control as well as many other options for tweaking and adjusting sound. Give it a try if you haven't already!
Note 8 Not Working With Kunlun E18
Hi,
I have the Note 8 as well as the Fiio Kunlun E18 and I'm having trouble getting it to work correctly. I am using a USB C OTG adapter with the micro usb cable that came with the Kunlun. When I plug into the Note 8 a USB options screen pops up in the notifications panel that gives you a few options, but if you try to select any of them it just reverts back to 'charge device'. It's strange because the other day after turning the Kunlun on and off a few times and then selecting MIDI Device in the notification panel options on the Note 8 I finally got it working. Now, I'm trying to listen to my music again today and it is not working for me no matter what I try. The USB Type-C to MicroUSB Female OTG Adapter I am using is from a company called meenova. I ordered it from Amazon. I'd like to add that when I connect the two devices together all the volume levels drop to mute, and if I try to slide the Media volume slider up it just goes right back down to mute. I can hear the audio from my Power Amp Player app temporarily as I do this. Any help would be appreciated. When it was working the other day I did not have Developer Options enabled in the Note 8. Do I need to do this and mess with some of the USB Audio routing options? Thanks.
Hi, all. I realize that this is an old post. I hope that it is ok to ask my queston. I bought an XDuoo Link DAC(USB-C), but can't get my Note 8 to recognize it. The USB configuration doesn't even allow for USB audio. Is there something else I can try?
Any luck there? I've been trying to connect my N8 to xDuoo XD-05plus with an OTG cable that came with the dac/amp but with no success.
