Extended battery

Got my extended battery yesterday!! Makes bionic heavier but i actually like it better that way...lets see how long it lasts fully charged at 830 this morning...to be contunued

Just picked one up yesterday as well. Makes it feel like the phone I had previously which was an EVO with an extended battery. I like it and for 25 bones right now it's hard to pass up.

Just got my EXT. Bat. today via Fed EX will give it a full charge tonight and test hard tomorrow, almost feel like the bionic is to lite with orgin. batttery in it??

Very good design on this extended battery

Alright!!!! So I last charged it this morning @ 830am...it is now about to be 8 so almost 12 hours now and its @ 50%!! So my usage consisted of checking emails, texting, facebooking, lil bit of checking xda, twitter, and a couple of very short calls so I would say my use was at moderate through out the day...I'm very happy with the extended battery!! I think I had done my normal streaming of Pandora or iheart radio (around 2 hours in the office) that it would still be going right now

I just received mine today. Then I hit a brainstorm. I popped it into the external battery charger and it started charging. So, I thought to myself - why not have 2? Added bonus - I'd have a spare back cover as well.
Et voila! I went back to VZW and ordered a second one today.
I'll be popping mine in late tonight and seeing how it goes in a non 4G area with WiFi on, GPS on, etc....
I'll probably try to condition the battery as well as I can also, draining it as far as it will let me the first time and then fully charging in the external charger. Same with the next one that comes in.

Nice I'm going to.go home and use my quick charger!!

I like the weight and feel of the phone with the extended battery. Feels a lot more like my Thunderbolt, which is what I am accustomed to.

Ugh....can't believe I missed it. I just got my phone yesterday, too.

This is my first run with the battery. Hour and a half GPS, gaming, phone calls, 2 hour Rdio streaming, hitting it pretty hard before I went to bed. Woke up and used it even more.

Dumb question for anyone using the extended battery. I got mine earlier in the week and it doesn't really seem to last any longer than the standard battery. Charged it all the way up and the most I can get out of it is about 8 hours. I don't really consider myself a heavy user either. Do you guys find that you have to run it all the way down and it last forever on 5% or does it just seem to overall last longer for you?

Also received mine yesterday. Has been off the charger now for 12 hours. 2 of those hours were spent streaming slacker radio which I am doing right now still. Battery is at 40%. Also I have been browsing the internet, facebook, and xda all day. I am very impressed. I like the weight of the phone too. It feels solid and well built, kinda like you know your holding a powerful machine.
Edit:I also have had skype active in the background all day and 4g turned on.

Sounds like you may have an app or several apps that are constantly syncing in the background. I can go all day with the stock battery. When I used the extended battery, I went all day and had 50% left.

Thanks for the reply, I just did a factory reset and am gonna roll with that for the next day or so. If its not that I read somewhere else that there may be a batch of more power hungry phones. If this continues I will exchange it I guess.

I lasted 3 days and 9 hours with my $10 extended battery. It was at 1% for a good 36 hours of it.
On my standard battery after 16 hours of "normal to light" use, I'm usually around 60%. As long as I don't have to charge it during the day, I'm happy. Plug it in every night when you go to bed and unplug it in the morning, you will last all day.

lmao wasn't the planning on that ill give a more accuarate battery in a few hours i actually went from full at 12 pm to about 5 brinking me to 10 percent in 5 hours

Other than the incorrect meter LucasMN, how much better is the extended battery in terms of single full charge. I am debating on getting an extended battery because I use my droid heavily throughout the day for work. I charge with the same habits as you. With my current standard battery I get to about 50% by 2pm (my day starts at 8:30a)

I cannot compare it to the standard battery as I've never let the standard get lower than 30%.
3 days and 9 hours on the extended battery included 2 full work days. I work in IT and will quickly check e-mails throughout the day on my phone. Out of the office I use it quite a bit for facebook and streaming music. 95% of use was over Wifi though.
I bought the battery + cover off ebay for $10. It's about 3x as thick as the original battery.

So I was a bit concerned about battery now seems to be pretty good strange how some days I get 5 hours to 20 percent now going on 7 at only 50 percent

Can't post screen shot since phone is stuck at motor screen atm, but...with a dim screen, cal'd battery and debloated rom , I can burn through a full charge OEM extended battery in half an hour or less. I use a ton of SMS...

a half hour for a extended battery are you freaking kidding me and i thought this was bad i sms a lot too facebook and xda mostly through the day that is just crazy i am still at 50 percent and now at 7 in a half hours looks like i might make it to almost 12 on this one

when I get to a PC and unfutz my bionic ill screen shot it for you. To be honest I have always been a battery abuser though. BB curve to storm to og Droid to d2 and now bionic...all had to have extended batteries.

I would love to see this. With my extended battery, I stayed at 1% for over a day though. Unless yours is powering off, I bet that would be the case. 30 min for an extended battery, even an OEM standard battery sounds like BS to be honest, unless it is physically damaged.

I don't know what happened to mess up everyone's battery life, but when I flashed the 904 update mine all went away!

4.2 battery life.

I think it's obvious there are some serious flaws with 4.2, everyone has made that evident. I just wanted to ask you guys what kind of battery life you all are getting out of your N7 with the new 4.2 update?
EDIT: Im not so much worried about the battery life regarding 4.2, just battery life in general. Ive got everything turned waaay down and am only getting roughly 20 hours with moderatly heavy use. What do you guys get?

I actually haven't had any issues as of yet. Been running it only a week. I did update all the apps right away, which a lot of people that had problems related them to the apps.
Haven't had one force close and battery life has been right on par with 4.1.2.

So far mine has gotten better. I cant say for certain this is due to 4.2.1 however since I switched ROMS and Kernels to get it. But it certainly hasn't gotten worse!

Getting two days out of it which is perfectly fine with me. I get the same out of my Asus Transformer Infinity as well. Seems reasonable to me. What type of battery life were you expecting our need? Can't find a time to charge in a couple of days or something?

Ohh ive got the time. Was just curious as to what other users were getting. Guess i just expexted more battery life outta the N7. I usually get one solid day of use out of it, granted i do use the hell out of it and so does my girlfriend

I think that the batery life when you flash 4.2 is very badly.

I generally charge daily due to extremely heavy use, a few hours worth of gameplay while at work and use as my primary computer while at home. But I have went as much as 3 days with just light browsing here and there.

My battery life hasn't been that great when i was on 4.1.2 i lost like 1% over night now im losing like 15% even tho i just charge it up it seems thats its the Android os and google services thats killing the battery. I never had that much battery drain untill 4.2- 4.2.1

I've got to say mine's far improved... To be honest I've now set WIFI to off when in standby and screens always been down to 25%, so I'll get 2-3 days out of it with average use!

EVERYONES battery usage is going to vary... Wifi on during sleep with media syncing etc etc.... Is going to be much higher than me turning off wifi on sleep and not that much stuff running, etc...
My N7 is still at 100% if I take it off the charger at 9am and don't pick it up until 1-2 in the afternoon, which happens sometimes when I'm busy at work. There have been days that I didn't touch it all day at work and got home at 6pm and it's still at 100%.
In actual use (news, browsing, etc, not games) I see about 13-14% battery usage an hour, depends on the backlight. Games or movies, more like 16-17%.
And I've seen no obvious difference between 4.1.1, 4.1.2, 4.2, 4.2.1, etc....

My battery life so far has been amazing.
I always make sure it is fully charged when I leave my home at 7am. I have syncing, wifi and gps always turned on. While traveling I watch videos most of the time (around 1 and a half hours video screen time in total). During the day while working I use my N7 for web browsing, social media, taking notes, agenda stuff, etc. Most of the time I'm home around 6pm. Then I have about 60-70% left. I'm using stock 4.2.1, no custom kernels, root or roms whatsoever right now. I could make 2 days with quite some heavy usage, which impresses me a lot.

As long as I don't play HD games, the battery life is neat.. ^^ but if I play HD games, its sucked out in 3/4 +/- hrs.

Battery life has been good so far. I'm running a 3G Nexus 7, as said previously though it is all relative to what you're doing with your device.

12hrs of moderately heavy use for the OP, and he's complaining about batt life?
Isn't the batt on these things only rated for 10hrs anyways? Maybe I'm missing something here. Google states 10hrs for reading a book or browsing the web, and only 8hrs for 720p video.
OP - i'm sure your batt life went down, but you DO realize that you're already getting more than it's rated for, right? There's so many factors that go into determining batt life, that's it's impossible to give a realistic figure.
Who knows how many apps you have in background, your WiFi signal strength, brightness of display, etc.

Light day today, off the charger at 9am, this screenshot taken at 6:10pm. Used for 30 minutes according to the screen on timer, about 20 minutes of that was doing something on a server in irssiconnectbot and the rest was probably "glance at the weather" or "next meeting" etc.
It was at 100% around 2pm ish when I was in a meeting using irssibot, it dropped 3 or so percent while I used it there. I've never noticed this, but if you look close under the graph, it appears to have an bar for device awake, although it's dark blue and thin.

Battery issue, anyone?

So I got the charging dock for my Z1, the first night perfect, woke up and everything completely charged.
Today (2nd night) unhooked 5 minutes 97%, 15 minutes down to 81%. It was going down by the minute.
Tried to recharge, it just would´t. Removed sim card for a couple of minutes.
3 hours later 71%(normal discharge) 10% in 3 hours. Actualy a little better, I get 15 hours a day per charge, about 6% every hour, from 7 am to 10 pm, not bad, except for this.
Haven´t decided if recharge, or just wait for battery to drain and completely recharge again.
Has anybody had this happened?? Any comments, greatly appreciated.

Are you using the provided sony charger? Also is your dock a genuine sony branded dock? These things could possibly affect the quality of charge you are getting.

Yes I just got the original dk31 for the Xperia Z1, that's what's bothering me, because it's all original.

Mine drained to around 50% in standby yesterday over about an hour. Took it off charge around 7am, first time I looked at it, it was around 8ish and had dropped to nearly 50%. Put it in the genuine Sony dock and it was draining faster than it could put charge in to it. Put it in to airplane mode and plugged the micro USB in and it charged up.
Went to sleep last night with it in the dock at 19%. Woke up this morning to an error saying the charger doesn't have enough power or something (I was still half asleep) and it was still on 19%. Plugged the USB in and left it for about half an hour. Still the same 19% so turned it off and left it to charge. 3 hours later and it was at about 85%.
I know it's a big battery and takes a while to charge but if the charger can't keep up while the phone is still on, then there's a problem. It hasn't discharged as quick today but it might be a dock issue as it's been charged with the micro USB. I'll give it another go tonight/tomorrow and if there's still a problem I'll contact Sony.

I'm on hangouts, XDA, web all the time.
I don't talk to much, maybe 10-15 min per day but I send lots of SMS and emails...
I just love Z1 - best device I ever had :thumbup: for Sony this time.

Something is using cpu cycles or a rogue app of some sort. That would be my guess. If you don't know what it use a wake lock detector, on my nexus 7, google currents sync was killing me. If not any of those maybe a defective battery or something. I use mine all day and get an average of 4 - 5 hrs screen on time. I'm up at 6 and in bed by 11-12. Usually have 20-30% remaining and I'm a pretty heavy user with NFC and all sync on.

I installed the dock clock app, and let it run all night, I believe that to be the problem. Because I didn't use it last night, and I'm at 30% 16 hours since last charge.
I use it a lot, emails, Web, Facebook and Twitter, a lot of whatsapp, bout 1 hour on the phone.
So just deleted the app, and will put the alarm clock back on the night stand.

Intentionally trickle charge?

It seems that I can't get Battery Care to trigger consistently at night even though I always go to bed somewhere between 11-1 and get up at 7 on weekdays or 9ish on weekends.
I realized though that I happen to have a pretty slow 500 mA USB port charger from back in the day. If I go to bed with the phone at 20% it would take over 4 hours to charge, meaning the phone spends less than half the night at 100%. Maybe this is the next best thing?

I'm using charger UC 12 it gets charge at super speed but yet it never triggered Battery care (using x compact for the last one week)

How fast does it charge? I have not seen any evidence of anyone being able to charge the X Compact any faster than about 1%/minute which is not super speed by any measure.

@cmstlist I'll try to check it out next time I charge. Feels pretty fast, but then again my previous phone was Z1c...
I usually get battery care where night time is the the first major charge of the day (sadly that's not always the case since I'm getting pretty disappointing battery life my Xc came with stock 7.0...).
I'm using the UCH-12 (supplied), have similar hours to you. When it turns on it reports a plan to be @100% 2hr~ before I wake up.
I was actually wondering is this feature any good (theoretically at least) or just voodoo?

Mine came with UCH 20 rather than 12. So far I'm never needing to charge it all day if I started at 100. Sometimes it's above 60 by bedtime so I don't start to charge it until morning.

For what it's worth, here's a graph of how the UCH 20 charges it with Battery Care. Normal speed until 90%, flat until almost wake time, then up to 100.

32% -> 88% in 64min 1%/1.14min WITH screen-OFF usage (Music stream w/ WIFI+BT headset + WhatsApp web).
It started faster @ 1%/0.9min then I guess I used it more/slowed down on its own.
NO battery care triggered.
That's pretty good for me, being able to use the phone and still charge fast.

Yeah so it seems like the fastest it'll charge under any circumstances is slightly above 1%/min.

For what it's worth, Battery Care will trigger with any kind of charger, even a slow trickle. So even if in only charging at 1%/3mins, it'll still plateau at 90% for a while.
