Ok so the HTC Desire C seems to be a non supported device on here there are currently no ROMs for it and even the root/ulbl is not fully tested so devs with HTC experience get here to give this device what it needs!
Anyways the device runs on a 600Mhz processor running a long side 512MB RAM supporting Android 4.0.3 ICS, due to the specs the device can be a little sluggish under high operation situations so here are a few basic tips to help.
Install Zeam Launcher.
A small size launcher that is lightning fast, only thing that rivals it is the FTL launcher and looks like sense 4 launcher.
The launcher size is 338k (Google play size) very fast and minimal looking.
FTL follows the trend but size varies on ur device
Bit-Defender.
This is a tiny anti-malware suite, for full features needs payment, but for free it gives nice protection. and i use the desktop versions so yeah
if you prefer the finding ur device more so i suggest lookout due to free scream/locate and no it does not drain battery life!
Juice Defender.
I listen to music a lot when am out, my old X10 did well with an extended battery and Juice defender installed, so i say add it into the desire C, it actually saves battery and manages ur mobile data/wifi automatically.
(After root)
Install Titanium Backup.
This app is a god send, it can remove files embedded into the /system/app folder, so u can remove crappy HTC Sense launcher, also remove other bloatware and rubbish do be careful tho Rooting does void warrenty and removing apps can stop the device from working (WE NEED A RECOVERY!!)
Sysctl Config
I use this on my X10 for gaming, it provides a bit of a boost to performance not much but its there
(you must have busy box to run this, recommended to have latest superuser installed from Google play)
a scripting program - edit scripts (Advanced users/devs only)
This is what makes roms so dam fast over stock, devs have edited the files to increase VM Heaps and other stuff, if your a noob or no scripting skills dont attempt it wait for a pro to do it for you!
Try overclocking. (Advanced Users/Devs)
I dont know much about HTC kernels im a DoomKernel user for the X10, but he got the kernel another 200Mhz on a single core!
Idk if HTC have left any overclock on the kernel and i dont wanna damage my phone testing it as i got it 3 days ago, so feedback please!
Overclocking is one of the most obvious choices for speed, at the cost of battery life you can put the CPU past its standard levels, speeding up your device.
Personally i dont overclock past what doom set my kernel, if you wish to do it personally use NoFrills CPU (Free) or SetCPU (Paid) both need Root
Ok rant over! most of this stuff may not be yet possible on the device but i hope it does, its a nice little device cheap and cheerful! devs come and unlock the potential it has forget One X n S3 they got there stuff

Nope Nope Nope ^__^, basically its no good as the Kernal is stock and doesnt permit overclocking.
You should really rename this thread... it has nothing to do with optimizing or speeding up the OS. It just tells you about a bunch of software you could search for on the market, and then says, "oh ya, and overclock."

Deactivating apps which are not really needed also increases the speed, because more resources are available.
I tried that in combination with the overclock kernel and that sped up my phone especially when using apps which needs much ram and cpu-performance.

Apex is a good launcher, bit bigger than Zeam but it works perfectly for me, no lag at all and supports themes!
szilike93 Nameless new ROMs have OC ability, with the correct kernels, as said in my 1st post, i would OC, i used OC on a different ROM and played games, didnt last long under bloon tower defense 5. ive just downloaded a new kernel pack from the dev of Nameless, selected a slight OC, but i shall be still setting max OC to 600Mhz but i will be changing the Governor to InteractiveX and I/O to deadline (Going on what worked best for DoomKernel)

Yeah removing sense UI would be better off for the phone, but as far even the new "De-Sense" options still have baseline sense installed, until Cyanogenmod works fully we have to stick with it, although the devs have made the device smoother with sense, Cyanogenmod should take the crown

Well OC kernels are out and working can try them if you wish, New roms are around which are fast, no new "Super" apps to speak of, just a shame its only a single core 600Mhz, there are some apps im testing and shall report back, such as the Jellybean drivers, see if that wacks my battery using GPU rendering, hopefully not, all testing on Nameless 7.2 with 722Mhz Kernel but will be UC to 600Mhz. Hopefully battery life dont suck, Slimsense still best battery life personally for me

You want to get a good battery life, just push a stock systemui that don't have battery percentage numbers. Images in stock only have 4-5 batt images, while in percentage it gives accurate %1 reading 100 batt images.

You should do as Xdroidie626 sais.
Download Nameles's ROM and enclosed within You will find 3 kernels. Choose from 2 that allow You to OC Your CPU and flash it.
I'm using the 806MHz Kernel and apart from the obvious,battery life dicreased,can't complain about it at all.
HTC should have released Desire C 806MHz capable in the first place.
Lucky noobs we are to have XDA website and Devs themselves to provide us with tools of salvation from "stock" misery

Is there any actual blazing fast roms where everything your do is instant because I haven't found one yet. Most rom descriptions say they are blazing fast and have absolutely no lag and that there isn't anything better.
However my phone is not at all blazing fast. Most apps don't open instantly and start to get kicked out of memory making it impossible to multitask.
I want to know rom and kernel you people are using and what you think of the performance

I have an HTC Touch Pro 2. Two main issues:
1) At first, yes, it was maddeningly slow about half the time. It often, and I mean alot, would stop, think a loooong time like 10 to 30 seconds, trying to decide what it wants to do, then all would be OK for awhile, then stop and think. Arrgghh.
I am currently working on speeding up my Droid install, probably always will. Start here: read this thread on speed improvement. Try each one, one at a time, and do some simple benchmarking and you will find that one or two of these will help. My droid is not maddeningly slow as often. It is even quite peppy sometimes.
2) Battery life WAS bad, I was carrying 3 batteries in my pocket with the TP2 and I would run through all of them by 7pm that day :-(
How I fixed my battery life issue.
Battery life went from 4 hours to 1.5 days with this tweak. Installed DAZZLE from the market. It is a widget, after downloading you can create as many of these DAZZLE widgets as you want on your home screen. I created 2 DAZZLE widgets. A 5x1 (that means it has 5 configurable buttons), for the buttons I selected: Mobile Network, Wireless Network, Bluetooth, GPS, and Sync. Next: turn off all 5 buttons. Turn them on only when needed. My battery lasted 1.5 days! I am finding that when at home I can leave Wireless and Synch on and it doesn't drain the battery. With all 5 of these off I can still text and make calls. Also, install a DAZZLE 1x1 widget and customize that button to control screen brightness, I set it usually to 56%. Screen set to MIN at night when reading my RSS feeds in bed (I fall asleep reading the news) OK, one more battery life tweak: I installed SetCPU. The paid version is free for all XDA members. It is pretty self explanatory how this one works. You can find the free download on this forum by searching. I set mine at first from MAX to MIN but I felt the MIN of 122,880 was too low and it was lagging when it would wake up from a dark screen, so I moved the MIN up a notch to 245,760. Now it wakes up faster from a dark screen. All 3 of these tweaks make me a happy camper now for battery life, now to get the darn thing to be lite and quick and responsive. For me that would be no more than 2 seconds from button push to when an app opens.
Try galnetmiui or cm7.
They're both really fast (scrolling on cm7 is really laggy however).
Try supercharger v6 (just google it), it conpletely fixes the ram management.
Youll never have lags caused by to low ram, but you can still multitask.
You can also try a fast launcher like launcher pro.
That will make your whole launcher experience much smoother

I would recommend installing a stock Samsung ROM, that is odexed (JVR or JVS). And then MAYBE apply the supercharger script, but it's really not needed. That is about as fast as this phone can get. Don't worry about benchmark scores, or the so-called "lagfixes". They fix nothing anymore.
This is only based on my own experience.

I agree with you. Most custom ROMS boast all sorts of modifications and tweaks and high quadrant scores, but in terms of smoothness in user interface, I see no real difference. I find that stock ROMS are the best. I also find that froyo 2.2.1 roms are better than 2.3.4 because of more free ram. So, less memory swapping occurs and apps can start faster, browsers remain minimized rather than saved-state, etc. on froyo. However, I use JVR now mainly because I find that while it lags a little, the loading of things, like installing apps, loading videos, loading app lists, is faster. But it definitely lags more than my old ZSJPK rom

Try Simplicity ROM. They utilize very good and stable Semaphore kernel. Quadrant score without any over-clocking is 3000 but it doesn't matter. Lag free experience does matter though.

I usually opt to maximise battery life, but have played around with a lot of custom roms. My votes for smoothest roms in my experience thus far would be:
Odexed JVR with GalaxianGT Kernel (1.2GHz) - I was surprised by the smoothness coming from Speedmod. I'm guessing it's primarily gained by OC'ing to 1.2GHz and using an ondemand governor rather than Speedmod's conservative one.
CM7 with Platypus kernel - CM7 is really smooth with the stock kernel as is running with an ondemand governor, but it felt a bit quicker with Platypus kernels tweaks. I'm betting the use of YAFFS2 instead of RFS is the biggest reason it's quicker than stock Samsung roms.
Smoothest launcher I've used is ADW Launcher EX. I've compared it to GO Launcher EX and Zeam and it looks and feels quicker to me. Launcher Pro is also quick, but it hasn't been updated in ages
I use SURFACE JVR with Speedmod as I've found the kernel to be one of the best with regards to battery life and the ROM removes all the bloat and Samsung apps that I don't use.

i am fairly new to rooting phones. i just installed cyanogen 7 on my htc hero. works much faster than the stock. had heard that you can overclock the cpu. i downloaded CPUmaster free and lets me clock cpu to 768MHz. have been doing some research on this and have come across a few things. so really just one question; 1) what is the fastest you can clock the cpu with it still being stable?

Depends on a variety of factors and every Hero is different. Depends on the ROM your running, kernel, etc. You can play around with capped and uncapped kernels but no one can really give you an exact # but you..u'll just have to try tinkering with the settings. If your wise you will just select one of the governors located in Cyanogenmod Settings. I prefer SmartassV2,min. 362 max 691 its efficient and takes care of everything while prolonging the life of your battery. Also remember that overclocking for an extended period of time will overheat your phone and could cause damage, so keep an eye on the core temp while playing with ur cpu settings.

Some phones can't take more than 691, some can handle 768. I have found, for my phone, that 245/710 works great for me. I can see a marked improvement in snappiness at 710 over 691, but not really much at higher frequencies.
I used to use OnDemand as my scheduler, but with the newer .35 kernel I have liked the SmartassV2; I don't have any issues with music cutting out like i would with smartass or interactive. CM7, or most any of the roms built off of that, have the option in CM Settings to adjust both the frequency and governor so you don't need to install a 3rd party app to do so (it's under the "performance" heading). I also like to go into the spare parts app and set my animations to fast; that's just me though. I think the new CM7 builds have Jaybob's .35 kernel now instead of the .29. I have not seen an uncapped kernel that goes beyond 768 in a long time. There was one that jasonmaloney compiled that did 806 (I think) but that was pulled by him as it isn't good for the phone. just test it out and see what you like with what you have installed on your phone. Every phone is different even though they are the same.
Hi guys, I recently got a brand new galaxy s (GT-I9000). My experience with this nice one is amazing, except when it comes down to gaming. For example when playing Blood & Glory it just lags like hell, but I have seen videos of other galaxy s on youtube playing the very same game smooth. So I was wondering what can I do about it. I thought that I could install voofoo lagfix, but it was my understanding that it isn't available for gingerbread 2.3.6 (I have a rooted I9000XWJVZ, and I didn't touch anything else). I also thought that you may know a rom that is especially suited for gaming.

You can start from widgets freezing/delete.

Problem is that gingerbread has terrible memory management, it always tries to keep apps on memory, so when you're playing a game, your RAM changes depending on textures, etc. So the system sees more free RAM and starts an app which causes lags... yeah it's pretty stupid but you could try this:
Flash a custom kernel of your liking (I use semaphore and it's working well), and thunderbolt (it's a collection of scripts that enhance performance). Also you may want to flash a thunderbolt LMK add on (low memory killer), if you want best performance go for the 80MB LMK one, but you won't be able to multitask much. Actually you can change the LMK on the fly (with semaphore app) and that could be easier (flash at least the kernel and thunderbolt, the other thunderbolt add ons are optional)

Also I found Cyanogenmod to be ok at gaming but it's a battery hog, if you can tweak a samsung rom like I mentioned you could get good performance and battery life, even if it's a bit complicated at first.
If nothing of this satisfies you, you could go back to froyo, it's much better for gaming, really.

Anyways, i have a Galaxy Ace s5830. I have Beats with smooth sense ROM. I had it upto 883MHz Yesterday but after i turned it off then back on ROM Toolbox reverted it to 806MHZ. 883MHz seemed a lot faster even though some people get theirs close to 1GHZ
My phone afterwards rebooting had issues such as the phone becoming un-responsive when i was even doing nothing (maybe the overclock to 883MHz had some short term effect?) But the phone seemed fine after safely turning it off then back on several times. Still works perfectly i got scared when it started to become un-responsive. But it works well now i have also used pimp my ROM, and the scripts work like a charm. Especially the call quality one (it uses bravia engine or something?). But with pimp my ROM wi-fi and network tweaks it completely broke wi-fi saying wi-fi connecting... Then saying under the network name 'Error'. Dam it took so long to get the IP address then said error like i said lol
At the frequency 883MHZ the phone seemed stable and faster than ever before, i did change it in small increments
So just wondering, what is the safe and most reliable frequencies to set it at? I currently use 225Min and 806 Max. With the userspace governer.
I know the terms of ' Safe ' and overclock don't mix (sorta like water and my dads S2 :crying: ).
Im also considering buying a 2450MAH battery from ebay for about 5.99 AUD. Any suggestions on should it be okay and better? But i mainly would like to knwo about the overclcoking lol.

That battery is a fake and has been confirmed as such. If you want a higher cap. battery get a 1500mAh or 1600mAh. I don't like messing with the clocking, good luck to you.

Right now I am just using the stock one. I personally wouldn't change my battery to anything other than stock, but people have reported that 1500mAh or 1600mAh work well. I wouldn't use anything that has a higher capacity than that though. Also, if it's very inexpensive it's probably not real.
Clocking actually goes on the rom. I've seen people having OC over 1gHz & still stable with the mad kernel but I gave up clocking as I didn't see much of a difference & also underclocking started giving me FCs on some heavy apps while it was all fair in the unclocked state. And again, there's no such thing as a best frequency. You find your own values. What works well for him might mess up your phone rebooting all by itself. Stock batteries are always fine & they also keep you under warranty. Anyone ever wondered why the phone manufacturers didn't implement clocking as a part of it ? Stability is the word. I've seen here, I've seen there. East or west, stock is the best ! Try keeping as close to stock as possible, just to have that extra touch of safety & stability

I was reading this thread and became interested in overclocking. In my case my device is:
Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830L (labeled as GT-S5830 by CyanogenMod)
CyanogenMod-7.2.0-cooper stable (Android version 2.3.7)
Kernel 2.6.35.7-perf-CL882825 ([email protected] #21)
I was checking in CM settings -> Performance -> CPU settings that I could adjust min and max clockspeed, but in max frequency the maximum one is the same processor's speed, 800 MHz. So my kernel doesn't support overclocking.
After a search in the forums I found there are plenty of custom kernels for this legacy device. But I'm relatively new to the kernel world, so I wanted to ask you for advise. What custom kernel could I try for my device for overclocking? Or King Android, what custom kernel are you using?
It'd the first time I do the overclocking stuff, I'd like to try it to see if some higher quality mp4 videos (which are run by MX Player only in software acceleration) can run better, as well as some games and emulators.
I'm also kind of a noob as you can see. If you want to troll/scold me...

Hi you can try FireKernel or BlackHawk kernel. Use the search function to find them easily. Both supports Overclocking and are made for CM7. [MAKE SURE THEY SUPPORT YOUR S5830L]
At the moment I'm with Democracy ROM which is based on unofficial CM7 and I don't really feel the need of overclocking. It is all smooth with firekernel at

Maybe I forgot to mention I haven't installed a custom kernel before... Does the kernel come as a file itself, or along a CM7 custom rom? And if it comes as a file itself, how can I install it? I already mentioned what CM7 I have installed. It's the "official" stable one.
Would OCing help to improve videos and games performance? i.e, faster, no lag...
You can set it to whatever your phone can handle. Mine can't go past 844Mhz otherwise apps start force closing and such. If your phone is completely stable at 883Mhz then you're good.
As for the battery, no. It's a fake. Buy a 1500mAh like I did. Works like a charm and it brought 3. Lasts a little longer and it's really amazing. Had it for a while now. Still have one in the pack, only been using 2 when I don't get to charge my phone. Really handy.

Maybe I forgot to mention I haven't installed a custom kernel before... Does the kernel come as a file itself, or along a CM7 custom rom? And if it comes as a file itself, how can I install it? I already mentioned what CM7 I have installed. It's the "official" stable one.
Would OCing help to improve videos and games performance? i.e, faster, no lag...

OCing helps the phone over all. But remember, without much free ram, OC won't really change much. You need a balance of ram and CPU. Like me, I use swap and OC to 844Mhz. Even if it's a low OC, it's still better than nothing.
1. @SuperAce609: I have 104 Mb free RAM out of 278 Mb total RAM. Mine is Galaxy Ace S5830L with CM 7.2. Would OC work for me? Up to what frequency?
And how can you have 600 Mb of RAM? Is your device really an Ace?

1.- Every Ace is diferent..some Ace's can go up to 960 Mhz while other just 844 Mhz, the thing is: try it yourself overclocking in small jumps. Swap is a small amount of memory of your SD card, that Android use it like if where RAM, but decreases SD card life...
2.- Some Kernel came Built in on Some particullary ROM's but generally cames on a CWM Flashable zip; FireKernel & BlackHawk are specially for CM7; In my opinion FireKernel is the best... And there are others like Battery Extender Kernel or NimsKernel but these Kernel are only for Stock ROM's...

There's a fair number of custom CM7.2 roms with FireKernel in the developer forum. Is there one you or someone else could say is the best in terms of stability and least number of bugs? Or is that something I should test myself in the S5830L?
The Ace S5830/S5830L has 278 Mb total RAM by default. If I understand well, you're implying I could modify SWAP partition in order to increase RAM and, probably if lucky, with this make OC work better. How can I do that? Do I also need a custom kernel/rom for that?
The best stable Roms so far are the stock GingerBread based ones... but if you aks me about CM7 there a few like Apocalypse rom(ICS styled ROM) with the FireKernel that suports swap I think...
and for Swap you only need a Kernel with Swap enabled and a SWAP Partition on your Sd card...
lets see im fine and stable with 979 mhz without reboot for 9 hours
overclock is depend on your hardware

At the frequency 883MHZ the phone seemed stable and faster than ever before, i did change it in small increments
So just wondering, what is the safe and most reliable frequencies to set it at? I currently use 225Min and 806 Max. With the userspace governer.
I know the terms of ' Safe ' and overclock don't mix (sorta like water and my dads S2 :crying: ).
Im also considering buying a 2450MAH battery from ebay for about 5.99 AUD. Any suggestions on should it be okay and better? But i mainly would like to knwo about the overclcoking lol.
So yeah, basically what is a good frequency to set it at? Is 883MHZ okay? Am i going to fry it out or completely brick or damage the phone or cpu if i set it at 883MHZ? Would love to buy a new phone but i need to save im only 14

The best and most stable overclock freq. is actually 906mhz-864mhz. It works like a charm mate! Try it.

Using CPU high frequencies is not recommended, your device's life will be reduced considerably

I got my HTC One a few days ago and immediately wanted to remove the Sense layer. I rooted the device and flashed CyanogenMod. I am so far super satisfied with the vanilla Android experience.
I am wondering is there a current possibility for clocking the CPU of the device? I looked up Element X but it seems that, as of now it only works with 4.1.2?
Check out the Kernel which is for 4.2.2 by tbalden. The problem with this s that it isn't based on the HTC Kernel source cause this isn't released yet. So it might have some problems

Why would you overclock it ?
The One is already very responsive and powerful enough to run any apps and games, from my point of view overclock will just cause instability and drain the battery.
But if you want to do it, I saw an option called "seeder" or something like that during the installation of the Revolution HD 10.3 rom, it says that it allow performance tweak but I never tried it.
Seeder has nothing to do with overclocking, it just fills and enlarge the entropy, some people say it give them less lag and smoother gaming, a lot of it is in the eye of the beholder I think but it has no bad side effects as far as I know

I'm coming from 6 year streak of Apple devices and the shear freedom of tinkering with the clock speed makes me really excited
I also noticed the Galaxy S4 uses the same chip with a frequency of 1.9... I guess clocking the current 1.7 to its intended(?) 1.9 wouldn't hurt the battery that much... although anything beyond that might be pointless really.

I think 1.7 IS the intended frequency. The S4 is overclocked (and designed to support the overclocking).
