Case-Mate Kindle Fire Tuxedo Case - Nexus 7 Accessories

It uses adhesive to secure the device. Smart-cover type functionality it appears from the video. Looks sweet. Anyone want to pull the trigger?

You do it, then you can tell us all about it.

This might be the best out there atm, wish it was designed for the Nexus so u wouldn't have to have that flap (have it attach like the Ipad)

I'm not gonna spend $40 on a case that isn't designed for my device.

I agree that this case looks great. I actually prefer this over the magnetic smart covers, as the smart covers do not protect the back of the device. I have ordered this off of Amazon, and will get it in the next couple of days.
The Nexus 7, however... I'll probably get it next week according to Google's E-mail on the matter.
By the way, there's no doubt in my mind that this will work for the Nexus 7:
Both Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire have a "rubberized" back, so if the adhesive works on the Kindle Fire, it'll work on the Nexus 7.
base x height x thickness for Nexus 7 is: 120 x 198.5 x 10.45 mm
base x height x thickness for Kindle F is: 120 x 190.0 x 11.40 mm
What that means is that it'll have a small bezel of ~4mm on the top and bottom of the device (thickness of <1mm will probably be negligible on a case)
Case is "open" and not blocking any ports/buttons (since Kindle Fire has no buttons on the side, if the case had a covering on the side, it would've screwed the Nexus 7's buttons)
Regardless, since I will get the tablet within 30 days (which is the return period for Amazon for this case), I'll try it out and update if it's worth keeping or not for the Nexus 7.
I don't see any better case coming out for it (I prefer a small, sleek case like such), since the actual smart case design (like the ones for the iPad) is patented by Apple, and you know they're going to sue the crap out of any other company that makes it (since they're very sue-happy).

I'm going to pass by best buy tomorrow and see if I can find anything decent that fits...if not I'm ordering this.

I have this case for my iPad and its by far the best case I've ever had. I hope they make a nexus version soon.

I had this case for my Kindle Fire but unfortunately I sold it along with the Fire when I ordered the Nexus 7. That said, I'm fairly confident that it would work just fine with the N7...the adhesive is very strong and should have no problems attaching to the back of the N7. I took the KF out of this case several times without any issues getting it to stick to the adhesive when I put it back. My only concern would be that because the KF is slightly thicker the case might have a little extra "give" with the N7 when closed.
It's a very sharp looking case, though. Highly recommend for KF, should probably be fine for N7. Using mine without a case at the moment but considering going back to this one.

YooMee tablet case for my N7

I think I found my case. i had a specific requirement that very few cases have, a hand strap. While i read, i can put my hand through the strap so the tablet is more stable. this is important to me as I commute from Philly to NYC on a daily basis and during my train commute, i need to be able to hold it securely, if its not in my bag or jacket (seriously, though, why would i EVER put it away??)
It's the YooMee tablet case for the Nexus 7. You can look at the details on Amazon. Just do a search on "yoomee nexus 7". You'll see it. The best part? it's only $7.99! Obviously , there are no reviews, but i looked at the reviews for the similar product for the Kindle Fire, and seemed very encouraging.
Anyway, just wanted to share what i found.
Enjoy!

I suppose providing a link will be helpful:

IMO, the same case is for sale and cheaper for the Kindle Fire

Not to mention you'll get it faster as it isnt preorder

TUXEDO CASE for Amazon Kindle Fire - could it work?

http://www.case-mate.com/Amazon-Kindle-Fire-Cases/Case-Mate-Amazon-Kindle-Fire-Tuxedo-Cases.asp
I like the slim profile of this case. I'm thinking it could be a good alternative since it uses an adhesive backing to attach to the tablet. Has anyone seen this case in action on a Fire? I certainly have concerns about the adhesive's longevity and residue when spending $40.
Here's a link to the video showing how it works: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7yYt1K0CsE&feature=player_embedded
Looks like it can if the adhesive back can stick to the dimpled back of the N7. On the KF, the back is soft but is flat. So it possibly won't stick. I don't think I would spring 40 bux on something that may not work.
Could be a nice case, especially if the magnets are in the correct place to work with the nexus.
Fire = 190 mm x 120 mm x 11.4 mm
Nexus 7 = 198.5 x 120 x 10.45
So Nexus is just a little bit taller.
I would expect a flood of Nexus cases to start coming out.

Flygrip + Nexus 7?

IMHO pricey, but innovative.
I am not sure if it still applies, but thanks to QBKING77, you can use his handle as a coupon code to get free shipping.

I saw this in the SGS3 threads and wondered it it would work on the N7. The have it in 3 different sizes, but that's for finger fitment and the slide/video shows it installed on some ereader.
Would it stick to the N7's backing?
EDIT: It should according to their video, thanks goes to Rock-&-Roll-Hedgehog for linking us this video;
It would be useful if they stated on their website how much weight it can handle. Apologies if that info was in the 2nd video but that fellow was annoying me with his hand waving so much I had to stop watching. This product looks really interesting though.
I think it would work but I never got one for my handsets due to the bulk
I just found this video review which shows it being used on a Kindle and also on a TPU case on an Amazon Fire Tablet, which I think is about the same size & weight as a Nexus 7.
Tablet shown from 2.00 onwards
Edit: Yay I got it to embed. Yeah I know, but I'm pleased with myself so there.

I didn't watch the 1st one much, too much Apple Iphone imagery, I found it more of a commercial and less information..

Very good example, Thanks!
Looks interesting. Like a clothespin for your fingers. :good:
It looks interesting but I doubt a bit that it will stay on the back of a Nexus 7 because of it's material and kind of surface. It might also make it hard to fit in a pocket with this extra thing attached to it.

Perhaps attached to these new hard snap on covers it would hold; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29640491
I wrote to Flygrip about using it on the Nexus 7. Here are selected highlights from the response.
In that video we showed the kindle fire which is almost the exact size (and actually heavier than the nexus 7). It will work exactly the same. Once we get out hands on a nexus 7, I will do a video.
<snip>
The nexus 7 will work just as well using the flygrip as the fire does.
<snip>
From my experience (I have it on the [Kindle] fire):
1. Great for reading and flicking through pages
2. You will not be able to totally one-hand navigate the entire screen. Too big to reach top left and bottom left with your thumb, but will let you click on at least 1/3 of the screen with your thumb with same hand.
3. When laying in bed, you will be able to view it even though gravity is going against you. You can do this for a while until your hand/wrist will get tired because the weight of the tablet starts to fatigue your arm.
4. My dad uses it on his regular kindle for reading books and loves it (as well as many other flygrip owners).. Just takes pressure off your finger muscles to grab the kindle.
<snip>
Regarding the sizes. check out video here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7k-30qPeZFY
For tablets I recommend getting a large because sometimes you may want to stick your fingers in even more than normal (smartphone we recommend fingertips)
Overall on tablets, it does help out a lot.
<snip>
When we were at CTIA Wireless and Macworld Expo, we had a kindle and ipad and using it all day with one hand to hold it (when people were purchasing flygrips, we used the square card readers on the ipad, so the flygrip rep would hold it out for them to sign). Definitely helps for that purpose as well.

That's not bad, but they are comparing it in size and weight to the KFire. Problem with that is that the KFire has a straight plastic back, adhesive should work fine with that, but the N7 is textured (holely) rubberish backing. I would assume most adhesives would eventually un-stick and peel off.
I would recommend if getting one of these, to put it on a hard plastic casing. But really that's just my guess. I'd be afraid of it coming off and flipping the N7 in the air on to the floor. The glass is not Gorilla, it's just Corning scratch resistant and even if that doesn't get damaged, the LCD will definitively crack.. (been there)

Dont have one but by judging it id say what do you have to lose for 7$ just dont expect alot for your dollar you know ? i might order one myself.
The stylus would be no good for the Nexus, the keyboard won't work (at least not without an adaptor) and it would be at least an inch thick when closed, don't waste your money.

I rooted my Kindle Fire and added a custom ROM which allowed OTG, so the keyboard work. The keys are tiny and the clips don't hold the Nexus at all.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
i've actually got one of those. the guy i bought it from on ebay supplied a usb OTG adapter with it.
works flawlessly with my nexus 7. at first it throws you off a bit since the keys arent standard sized, but i adapted to it fairly easily enough.
as mentioned, the clips dont really hold the nexus 7 in place, so dont expect this to be protecting your nexus 7. on mine, i just went to a hardware store and bought some of those hooks you'd normally stick to a wall and just stuck it to the case to make sure my nexus 7 doesnt slip out accidentally.
its good for the price, but if you're willing to spend a bit more, there are better keyboard cases out there.

[REVIEW] Caseen DESIGNO Nexus 7 Case

Hello. First of all, this is my first post to XDA, so a little introduction:
I'm Neal and I live in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. By day, I am an IT contractor for the Federal Government.
I ordered my Nexus 7 on Day #1 from the Play Store and I received it in mid-July. My only other tablet experience was an HP TouchPad which I got from the Fire Sale. I say "was" because I sold it to get the ca$h for the Nexus 7. I don't regret my decision at all! I was dual booting webOS and CyanogenMod and I ended up using the CyanogenMod side more than the webOS side.
Below is a review I wrote for the Caseen DESIGNO case for the Nexus 7. I originally wrote this review in mid-August. I will post an update to the review at the end:
When I pre-ordered my Nexus7 and saw the OEM case, I must admit that I hesitated at first. I wasn't really sure that that case was worth $20, but I wanted something to protect the N7 right away. I wasn't sure when other N7 cases would come to market, so I purchased the OEM case.
The OEM case was not the solution for me. I'm not going to go into details; there are other threads on this matter.
I was attracted to the Caseen case because I wanted something of good quality and not some eBay/Amazon China mass-produced item. Yes, the Caseen is made in China, but it doesn’t look like it was rushed out. The Caseen looks like thought and care went into the design of the case.
I’ve had my Caseen for a little over a week. I really enjoy using it as opposed to the OEM case. I feel that the N7 has more protection. When I still had the OEM case, I went away on vacation and I was afraid of packing it in the suitcase. With the Caseen, I feel more comfortable putting it in a backpack or Messenger Bag.
The case is constructed of genuine leather. The inside is soft and will not damage the screen. All the ports, including the “Sleep/Wake” and “Volume” buttons are easily accessed and easy to press the buttons. Speaking of “Sleep/Wake,” the cover does contain a magnet which will activate the “auto Sleep/Wake” function of the tablet. The magnet will keep the cover in the closed position when not in use.
The cover does have a hand strap, so when you open the cover and bend it over behind the tablet, you can place use the hand strap to hold the tablet in the “portrait” position.
The case has holes on the back along the speaker area to allow the sound to come through. I have looked at other $30 - $40 cases and these cases do not have an area for the speaker. I haven’t tested these other cases, so I do not know how this affects the sound.
The Caseen DESIGNO also has an elastic loop to keep your stylus and the cover does convert into a stand so that you can place the N7 in “Landscape Mode” for both viewing and typing. I have found issues with both the elastic loop and also with using the “stand mode.” I have outlined these issues in the accompanying YouTube video - Sorry, I can't post the video since I'm new. If you want to see the video, just PM me.
The other issue I am running into with the case is that it is difficult to swipe down from the top in order to open the Notification Area. This is also demonstrated in the YouTube video. In addition to swiping for the Notification Area, I do find it difficult to access the “back, home, and recent apps” soft buttons when using the N7 in Landscape.
Overall, I do like the Caseen DESIGNO and would recommend it to anyone looking for a case for their Nexus 7. Considering that I am on the East Coast and Caseen is in California, they respond quickly to e-mail.
** UPDATE **
Caseen has come out with a "Version 2" of the DESIGNO case. Basically, the Version 2 has some cutouts on the left and right side of the case to allow for swiping. For example: You can swipe between open tabs on Chrome by swiping left to right or right to left. The case still makes it very difficult to swipe from the top an open the Notification Area. I think Caseen needs to take this into account for future updates.
I hope that you enjoyed my review.
Thank you,
Neal

Yes, it looks very similar to many cases I've seen, including the SupCase.
Thanks for the review Neal!
Anyway, here is a video featuring the case:
Hope that helps. For those wondering, the MoKo/Blurex/SupCase are all very cases for the money. However, our case is different and is blueprinted here before being sent out. If you google caseen reviews you'll see we have definite quality differences.

Honestly the case is the same as the moko/blurex ones besides the front design. Looks like they came from the same factory. Id go with whatever is cheaper.
