Who got a free nexus 7 by canceling - Nexus 7 General

This thread is for people who ordered from the play store and have recieved their orders but cancelled and did not get charged. Do we have any lucky buggers that have managed to net one free because the way google are handling things i wouldnt be suprised if a few hundred slip through their pathetic delivery tracking system.

I doubt that will happen.

I would not be surprised if those people get an invoice and return shipping label in the mail. And then have to choose return or pay. Let alone if it was cancelled and the purchase does not say cancelled in Play store then technically Google covered the terms of the sale and could charge the credit card on file since they could show delivery of said product. Plus in its term of sale it states the cancellation period.
This thread will just bait people to debate. Seems trollish.

Is that for UK only? Also, isn't it somewhat solicited since one had ordered it and attempted to cancel after the specified cancellation period?
This thread is going to cause arguments for sure. Not as bad as the thread about retail FRAUD though...

Agreed. I thought the same thing about the retail fraud one with the guy having a play store and Sam's club tab, inspecting them and just returning whichever one he doesn't want to Sam's club. I think it's actually a felony.
Shame.

Lol a free tablet is a free tablet ....like Google doesn't have more money then they will ever need . And not to mention I'm pretty sure Google is constantly stealing/viewing or information that's why u get ads similar to the things you talk about in your emails. Correct, you are not a lawyer.
The "unsolicited goods" laws in some countries (USA for example, which is handled by the FTC) is explicitly written to cover receiving unordered products. It is not for "haha! you sent me something after I cancelled my order so I get to keep it for free!" type scenarios.
So, for example, if you signed up for a free product and they sent you something more with a bill/invoice. Or if you never ordered anything to begin with, but they sent you something and wanted you to pay for it. Or if you receive something (again, not ordered) and it was due to an honest shipping mistake*.
To the latter, you are still supposed to contact the merchant to let them know of the mistake, and give them an opportunity to correct it at zero cost to you (ie: paying for return shipping) within a reasonable amount of time. You can also make it clear that if they don't contact you about it within that time, you will dispose of the product in any manner you see fit.
While this part of it might be a stretch, it could possibly apply here. So if you did actually get an N7 by mistake after cancelling your order, and want to keep it with little risk, I would suggest sending a certified letter to Google with the content above. If they respond back saying to send it to them using a prepaid shipping method, you should do so. Otherwise, while it wouldn't be considered "fraud" since it was their mistake, it could be considered theft of goods, since you did in fact order the product, they still sent it to you due to an honest mistake, they later tried to get it corrected, and you refused.
Or, you could just stay quiet and hope they don't contact you about it - if you are so inclined.
But in the end, if they do contact you to return the merchandise, I would recommend doing so.

On the invoice I received with my order, it had the device's serial number. They knew the device's serial number too, when I rang up and started the RMA process. Google know where each device has been shipped to, so I doubt very much that they'll do nothing and let people keep free tablets. Also, as stated on the support pages, they can remotely disable devices.

I can't wait to fast forward a couple of months, and the "Google just charged my credit card for a tablet I didn't return " threads start.

Seriously pee'd off

If people receive their nexus 7 before me, I pre'd on the 28th two weeks ago, I'll be cancelling my order with Google and purchasing from somewhere else. Not only did I/we pay more for pre order ( extra for shipping) were getting them after other people - yeah right Google, ebuyer can have my money!

When you are among the first to order from the only place selling said device at said time, are you not expecting to be getting it before anyone else? When people complained about the shipping cost everyone said "well hey thats what you pay to get it before everyone else" and now those same people are arguing that their own logic doesnt make sense .Not going after you or your post here just using it as a jump off point.
People will get it a day or two before you, not weeks earlier. i can't believe someone would throw such a temper tantrum over something so ridiculous.
It could be worse. At least Google is allowing some choice for people to buy from other retailers. Although their execution of that seems pretty questionable. You were able to pay extra for shipping? I didn't know there was any other shipping choice on Google Play.
A lot of people want this tablet. Does it really matter in the grand scheme of things if your tablet arrives a few days later than someone else? Some people will have theirs tomorrow for sure. If you were able to cancel and then ordered somewhere else it would likely push your arrival date even further than if you just waited for it like everyone else who ordered from Google Play.
Just hang in there, man.

Have fun cancelling, i heard you're going to have to wait for the item to come, refuse shipment, then wait for it to credit back to your account
My issue is if Google is/was able to ship units off to retailers, then why can't they do the same with the preorders? Preorder shipments should have started back when they started shipping units to retailers.
I WANT IT NOW!!
Pre-order means that you reserve your copy so that you are guaranteed a order at release. Not I ordered it on the 28th so I deserve to be the first to get EVERYTHING!!
People always think people OWE them something.. ME ME ME ME ME.
And don't reply telling me that if you run a business how your customer service should be blah blah blah.. All in all google doesn't owe you anything when they haven't even released a date yet.. They said mid july, its not mid july yet, one more week.

No one has gotten their N7 yet, so until massive people start getting theirs before you do.. Then I can see to be a little frustrated, but just being mad because its not getting here as fast as you want is dumb.

Thanks for approching the topic with a bit of respect for others situations, and putting logic first. You are right and ill clarify at least in my situation, my biggest thing is that Google has room to improve their Device Launch procedures ALOT. We all want google to succeed and have many more launches, the criticism is both warranted and neccesary to support the growth of the platform we all love. Am i MAD? NO, but i dont think theres anything wrong with honest criticism of the situation, naturally the people with a vested interest are going to be the ones doing the criticising.
I just got my payment credited back for the purchase of my N7. No communication, notice or email....nothing. So I don't even know if I'm gonna get one or not. Oh well....
To me honestly, I don't care if other stores get it before me, no matter where I pre-ordered. I just care about getting it quickly. Your guaranteed to get a copy plus you get free in store credit along with a movie the whole world has seen and doesn't want to see again :/ . You'll get it when you get it

Hi Tchalla,
"Thank you for contacting Google. It was a pleasure getting to speak with
you today. As promised, I've forwarded your case to a specialist to begin
working to resolve your issue as soon as possible.

still no response back. I wasn't expecting them to ship a replacement right away. They could have at least given me a time frame as to when they could. I will never buy from play store again. All you google fan boys or employee on here. Its not unreasonable to except communication from a retailer when dealing with defective items sold.
still no reply
Everyone agrees that it sucks to get defective products. But that doesn't make xda your personal complaints department. Don't start threads just to whine.
I think you're being a bit too sensitive on the issue...more than half of people that pre-ordered still haven't even received them. They're absolutely not going to replace yours before others get theirs. I understand you want more communication, but you've been given a written record (email) that they've taken your case and will help you with it. Now it's the weekend...so wait until Monday and see what happens.
I think there's a huge problem with this generation when dealing with patience. I'm sure Google will do whatever is required to satisfy you. Every problem I've had with them in the past they've gone completely out of their way to fix.

I would disagree. As stated not looking to get it replaced before others receive their fist unit just wanted a timeline as to when this would be. They have not met the timeline they stated to me.
That does suck but its only been two or three business days. I don't think that's unreasonable and I'm betting they will make good on it. I think that for future purchases you may want to consider a local retailer to avoid having to wait for an online retailer, just based on my past experiences and what it seems like is important to you.
Most retailers are very lenient on returns and exchanges within the first fourteen days. However I think Google is more likely to replace the device immediately than some brick and mortar stores. They both have pros and cons but I've always had good luck with third party retailers gong above and beyond to keep a customer happy.
I hope things work out good for you in the end, and I'm pretty sure they will. Most likely they're well aware of your issue and they might already be looking into it, I wouldnt speculate that just because you haven't heard from them that they're ignoring you.

Ok I got my nexus 7 early Friday morning as soon as I turned it on I notice that the upper left hand corner was faded or has light bleed. Ok I played around with it for a while. I have no other issues with this device. I called Google customer support and told the nice representative that my device had screen issues and I want a replacement she said ok but I won't be able to receive a replacement on a 16gb for at least 2 weeks. So I said ok, she then emailed ten minutes later confirming my request. But then this morning I see the full charge of the nexus 7 and shipping back on my bank card and its still there up till now, so I'm confused. Haven't heard anything back from Google either. Anyone know what's going on here?

I really hope a lot of these users weed themselves out of the forums. And I don't appreciate change.org emails about such petty things, just my personal opinion. I feel like if the company doesn't want to give you back the $14, and it's a big deal to you, then you need to accept it. Either realize it's not the end of the world, or never buy another google product. If you have to nag the shipping out of them or coerce them, you can't come back and talk about how you would be mad about the launch but since they volunteered the shipping they're back in your good favor, just because you want to justify using something you complained incessantly about.

Well, no, they didn't force anyone to buy a Nexus 7 in the first place, but they did force many people to buy it from them.
Shortly after stores announced that they were going to start selling on Wednesday, Google began refusing to cancel orders. They told people that their unit was being prepared for shipment and it was too late to stop the package. Correct me if I'm wrong, but many of those people who tried to cancel and were denied because their Nexus was on the way didn't actually see their package shipped for another week. Meanwhile, they had to choose between picking up a unit off the shelf or waiting for a package that still had not been declared. Either way they were paying for shipping.
This is a pathetic way to express a legitimate grievance.
This is ridiculous, the shipping amount was clearly listed prior to check out, if you didn't want to pay shipping you should have gotten it somewhere else.

Google Sent Me 7 Defective Nexus 7 Tablets and is REFUSING RMAS anymoreq

I purchased 2 Nexus 7's, one for myself and one for my father. My father's tablet has screen separation and he is afraid to exchange it. My tablet had a chipped bezel. I exchanged the tablet for a string of 6 defective Nexus 7's all with light bleed and dead pixels. Today, I called to process my RMA and the supervisor Cameron, told me that they will not process any more RMAs on my account and to please mail back my units.
I just want to inform anybody who is in the RMA process that Google will pull this move on you. I have been nothing but courteous to the reps, I have been patient with the RMA process and Google has written me off as a customer. I am sure some people are satisfied with their Nexus 7's, however that is not the point of my post. It is to inform potential customers of the systemic quality issues plaguing this product and Google's unwillingness to rectify the issue.

Google is really pushing away some of us customers with this fiasco.
I think it's amazing you got 7 different nexuses (nexi?) with no questions asked. Perhaps they think you are too hard too please so they are giving up. Some people get multiple devices and are content with them because they have no issues, you got 7 and saw issues with all of them. Luck of the draw I guess. The odds are crazy that you got that many messed up ones. How many other companies would easily do 7 replacements.

Well, and this is not a rant. I was very patient and offered them options such as running a quality assurance on a tablet prior to shipping or even repairing any of my tablets by replacing the LCD. They continuously told me that they'd contact me and never did and even getting RMAs was difficult as near the end they kept "Misplacing my CSSN". They really have been playing games and I was a huge fan of Google. Disappointing.

It is also the same person that told others to refuse their shipments and called Google demanding a free case and free shipping because he didn't get his N7 fast enough. Now he claims he got 7 defective N7's.

Good memory! I ended up accepting the tablets because one was a gift for my father and they were sold out everywhere and it's difficult to take a gift back after it's been promised. However, while it's clever that you're trying to attack my character and mitigate my experience, each instance is unrelated, though caused by the same issue, which is Google's treatment of their customers.
I'm surprised this is the first time I've heard this. But I think Google is being completely reasonable by cutting off people with excessive RMAs. Obviously after 6 or 7 returns on a device they aren't making money off of already, they are deep in the hole with you as a customer and will never make it back on whatever apps and content you might have purchased.
I agree it sucks that the device isn't perfect. But 6 RMA in a month, too much. Maybe after the 2nd or 3rd RMA you should have stopped, lived with the raised glass or whatever, and given ASUS more time to address their manufacturing process, then try another RMA later. That is what I'm doing anyway, I had my 2 RMAs in July, still not completely happy, but it's usable and I'm just patiently waiting for things to get better (sounds like we are almost there).

Imagine if he cashed in on all 7 google play 25$ GC, thats 175!
I'd have cut you off at three. I think most people who have experiences running or managing businesses would say the same. At some point, you have to cut the losses. i cant see why youre surprised, youre lucky as hell to have gotten 7 without being billed for google's time and effort in my opinion. But with googles resources i can understand them being so generous.
Just lou said nothing about it being related, he was just pointing out the kind of attitude and the outlook you so often have. He only stated the facts in his post and wasn't just throwing around rumors or opinions.
I'm really sorry that you got a defective Nexus 7. I understand you being upset with google about a defective product. But it makes no sense that you've had a company send you 7 devices, not charge you anything extra, and offer you a full refund when you still weren't happy, and you have a snotty attitude. It just screams of entitlement.
You're entitled to use your own money and go buy another device, or use a typewriter. Entitled to a dozen devices, and google paying for all of the labor it takes to send you those, do the paperwork, legwork, shipping, and any other costs, just because you aren't happy with the first one or a full refund, in my opinion you certainly are not.
I think in the case of 7 accepted RMA's, it should be the shareholders getting onto google, not you complaining about them.
There are plenty of people on the XDA who have exchanged several, five or more Nexus 7's for similar reasons. I don't think it's that surprising that bum products are exchanged. But you're entitled to your opinions.

Although demanding a free case as reparations is a bit silly, I cancelled my pre-order on what turned out to be the final day the Play store was accepting cancellations. Since that allowed me to pick one up on Friday the 13th, the week before anyone in America received their Google Play pre-order, I was very lucky to have been able to cancel. I also saved $20 -- more than shipping -- because I got it discounted from Sam's.
If I had been told that it was too late to cancel, then forced to wait a week and charged $20 extra, I would have been angry too. I probably wouldn't have done anything about it, unlike the OP, but according to you my complaining about it here would have gone some way towards discrediting me and my experience with faulty units. You would think I was just lashing out.
His and my experiences aren't so different. I received three units with screen lift, and before each replacement I called and talked to Google about what amount of screen lift was considered normal. Both times I was advised to exchange. The reason I asked for a refund on my third unit was that I don't need the tablet so badly that I cannot wait for a hardware revision, and this fault could potentially worsen over time. Three in a row and it seemed illogical to try again, so now I'm waiting it out.
The only differences between Anakin's experience and my own are that I called to cancel my pre-order a day or two earlier, and I stopped at three.
Do you think that I'm lying as well?
I can certainly understand Nexus 7 deciding to shut you down after 7 RMA's. Settle up and part ways. You may not like it, but Google has already spent a lot of money sending tablets via UPS/Fedex back and forth in an effort to please you. They have decided that they cannot. Well within their rights to do so, Google is a private business and can choose not to do business with anyone for any reason so long as that reason is not discrimination against a protected class. Put yourself in Google's shoes. If you sent a person 7 brand new in box units and that person found a reason to reject every one of them, what do you think the odds are that the customer will accept the 8th?
I just wanted to make sure I didn't convey the wrong message. I applaud google for replacing the units like they do. But after 7 RMA's, I don't at all blame them for cutting him off, I think it's very reasonable.
pxlitup, I'm familiar with your posts. You post with intelligence and offer up a lot of valuable information, so please don't think I'm lumping any users together.
True. 7 Nexus is excessive. I'm not saying Google has the best CS in the world but try rma-ing 7 times with any other company I bet you most would have giving up on the OP by the 3rd unit.

Dude you are just a troll judging from all your posts. Come on you got 7 Nexus 7's in a month. Asus must have the best customer service on the planet. I don't think Apple would do that.

When we had customers that just simply had issues non stop its better to break off from that customer. The time and resource usually from fixinng non broken items was to much time wasted

Asus has nothing to do with it. When you buy through Google, they handle exchanges. But, you already bought through the Play Store and are posting your opinion which is based on your personal experience, I'm sure.

I bought mine through the play store.. It had screen lift and quite a creak.
The creak I fixed with a 2"x1/4" piece of paper, and the screen lift I fixed with a hardcover copy of the OED and about two days of patience.. ALL of this I did without voiding my warranty or wasting an RMA ticket.
After 7RMA's, you need to take the refund and either wait until they hammer out the manufacturing process, or just buy something else. The fact that you feel ASUS/Google is actually in the wrong for cutting you off after your sixth RMA speaks fathoms about you. #JustSaying

I don't know how many people know this but google is now offering a free bumper with the purchase of any nexus 4 product. If you have bought your nexus 4 within the last 15 days, they'll give ya a free bumper! I just called them

Well done Google for looking after previous customers. I am waiting for the white to hit the UK store can't wait. No free bumper currently on the UK store for the black product so I guess the store may see the update next week.
I order another Nexus 4 on the 30th and they just told me the promotion started the 31st of May so I didn't qualify but they said they would look into it. Thanks for the tip though!

Just called them and they refuse to send me one since I purchased a black phone. Clearly in their FAQ and shows you get a black bumper free if you bought a black phone, or a white one, if you purchased the white version. I asked to speak with a manager or supervisor and I was transferred, rudely told the same thing. I explained that if I could just get a simple $20 refund, it'd be so much more easier on both ends than for us to have to ship items back and forth to one another.
They are offering me the option to return the phone and bumper I purchased just 3 days ago, minus shipping costs, and a 15% re-stocking fee. I'll be spending more money to just get a "free bumper" so forget it.
Google's customer service in comparison to amazon's is quite horrible. I can't believe they didn't offer me promotional credit to google play, or something in return for this unfortunate situation. With Amazon, if a situation like this ever occurred, they'd at least give me MP3 credit for a few songs, or extend my prime membership by a month.

I'm in the same boat as you, with the same issue and conclusion you came to. Even though I like the phone, this is thievery on google's part. Also it was rather asinine to not be able to just refund the purchase price of the bumper.
About to engage costumer support to see who the victor is, my device arrived on the 31st so I may be able to pull some bs based on that :cyclops:
Also I don't think they should be giving bumper refunds for any reason, as I see it is either you should get a bumper or not and I think we should.
am i the only one that feels that people are being greedy in this thread by calling Google thieves because they won't give them something for free because they bought something before a promotion started?

But are they making any more by giving away free bumpers to everyone now? Would they really lose any less by "giving" ones out to people who were unlucky and purchased the phone and bumper separately just days before this promotion?
I feel kind of screwed out of $20 since I just bought the phone a few days ago and they're not offering me any feasible solution.
I purchased it in India in a local shop, Google don't sell N4 via play store in India. It's LG who is selling it, So will I get free bumper ??

No, I agree with you. Certainly it depends on the timing of when the Nexus 4 was bought but, speaking from the perspective of someone who works in customer service, these are the types of calls I hate fielding. Why should a company have to compensate you for something you didn't qualify for? There's a certain point where it becomes entitlement and I hate that.

While I agree to some extent, they need to offer a better solution to those who bought the phone and bumper at the same. My gripe is not with getting the free case but seeing that i bought both i should at least be refunded the price of the bumper. Its was literally a day before the promotion, and they want to charge restocking fees, preposterous. In the end I'm not totally up in arms about it, because both are quality made products, its more of the timing.
Is T-Mobile giving the bumper away too?

Even if I was in the price matching period I wouldn't be complaining. It's only $20 for a bumper case. Go buy one instead of wasting your own and Google's time.

That's exactly how I'm reading it. Disgraceful to complain about such a third by considering how cheap the Nexus 4 is anyway.
