The USB OTG technology (USB Host) works? - LG Optimus 4X HD

Hello,
The OTG technology ( On The Go / USB Host ) works with the LG Optimus 4X ?
Thanks.

Why !?
can be the root we can activate the OTG, as was done for the HTC One X (EternityProject Kernel) and the Nexus S! (stickmoun)

you think the update to Android 4.1 will add the USB Host?

USB OTG really a no go for the O4X?

i've just got off the phone with LG uk, they told me that the phone has usb host support but it's on the phones with ics not gingerbread.
can anyone confirm this?

There are no O4X phones with gingerbread at all...

the person I talked to said they used gingerbread on it, I'm guessing it was an Early version. But if it has ics on it and usb host doesn't work I'd complain to them. Obviously make sure i am using the correct cable before hand so it's not user error.
if i can get this phone once it's released in the UK I'll probably try this out.

Cable is connected and it does not work. Unfortunately, no device is detected. The device is rooted. Somebody news?

OTG is not enabled in the kernel. This feature is not compilable as a module as far as I know, and hence the bootloader is locked, we cannot use a custom kernel (kexec is also disabled).

already root my LG Optimus 4X HD still no hope using OTG

Rooting alone will not magically enable OTG. Rooting your phone but not doing anything else doesn't make any difference besides voiding your warranty.

Rooting your phone does NOT void your warranty. It is a simple matter to unroot if you need to send the phone back for repairs - and if it is so badly screwed that you can't unroot it then it is highly unlikely the service centre would be able to tell that you had rooted it in the first place.
Messing around with your bootloader, using an XTC-Clip to gain S-Off (as I had to do with my old HTC DS) and stuff like that, however, does run the risk of voiding your warranty - but even then they cannot refuse to fix a genuine hardware problem unless they can prove you caused it by your actions.

Hey guys, maybe you can try this step :
1.root your HH
2.install "android terminal emulator"
3.when it's asked...choose 'grant'
4.enjoy
Thats all

It achieves nothing. This guy appears (I may be wrong) to simply be spamming to try and make himself look intelligent - yet he doesn't know the difference between odexed & de-odexed. I would be tempted to ignore anything he posts until he can be verified as trustworthy.

Hi guys
my cell phone's (usb otg) doesn't work too ((optimus 4x hd))
it's not possible
i connected a mouse but it didn't work correctly
the other android phones can work with mouse and keyboard without any problem
but in 4x when i'm connecting any hardware it doesn't happen any things
i installed usb storage manager and usb host controller but they didn't work
at the first i thought my usb otg cable broken
what about you ?

This needs a newer kernel, so with version 2.6.x it won't work.

there is a encription on the back of the model NOT FOR SALE...so that means it a developer edition, or not?
ofcourse, software is version v10a....
maybe it's not registred for sale so it wont update?
I found some tutorial, does someone know will that help and could I brick it this way? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1861942

If you'll try the normal flash, you'll brick it almost for sure.
By that method you'll be able to flash it.
Pay attention to the tutorial before you start!

As far as I know, the flash method for developers phones must run in 32bit system.
About retail phones, just try to download the KDZ version you want to and flash it with the normal methode.
Good luck

Maybe even without sucess, when you flash by the "development way" (let's call it like that for now...), you overwrite the file system allowing to perform the normal flash after that.
Good for you.

[Q] Usb only charges, can it be fix?

I need some help here..my p990 usb only charges when connect to pc or playstation 3. I know it isn't a driver problem because i have already tested other two p990 at my pc and both devices are recognized/usb work.
I've tried smartflash/nvflash but the device can't be recognized by windows..
So, can i assume the usb hardware is dead :crying:? any tip for fixing this matter ?

No. How can i try this?
go to Settings->Storage-> hit the menu button -> USB-Connection(PC) -> choose between the options.
Actually I'm having the same issue. But I'm really sure my USB port is broken.
The device just isn't recognizing that it is being plugged into something.
(And I tried everything anyone ever reccomended on the USB not working matter)
I just use a cardreader to put stuff on my SDcard. I just hope I never have to repair my device via NVFlash. That's impossible now.
Other than that it's not a big deal for non-devs

The same is happening with my p990 to. I can´t connect to pc with pc connection. To transfer data i use the card reader or with airdroid who it make with wifi.
Others users that had this problem they sent the phone in warranty and Lg have changed their mainboards. So if you have warranty go and solve your problem with your LG shop. It´s seems that is not any solution to solve this annoying problem with this bad hardware
Hello, same problem here. Well, "you need to send it to LG".. but there's one problem. I have MIUI and I can't flash back original ROM without nvflash. How to deal with it?
Try this: open LG update tool > options > "?recover (phone)? " > do by imei > enter serial and imei. LG update tool checks baseband for updates, for recovery idk, but I guess recovery cm only needs the numbers entered. Worth a try, and I'd like to know too.... Thanks Ferrum Master, you made me know about this function

Looking for unbrickable phones

I know P990, SU660 and SU880 can't be bricked tanks to nvflash. I am wondering is there any other phone which are as much unbrickable as the above mentioned phones.
Sent from my LG-P990 using xda app-developers app
You can use nvflash with every tegra devices...
You almost right, but optimus 4x can't be used with nvflasn because it has secure boot key and without the key you can't use nvflash, sadly . There is htc one x as well, but if you enter in to apx mode you can't come out of it. The only devices which has working nvflash like our p990 is asus's tegra tablets.
Actually, I am looking for my next phone, becase optimus 2x is getting old. Since I love experiment with phones I possible will brick my new phone. That's why I am looking for unbrckeable phones. asus tablets are unbreckable but they are not phones

Yeah I'm also looking for a newer unbrickable phone..
What about qualcomm processor's phones ? Does anyone knows if they are easy to hardbrick and if they have an equivalent of Nvflash ?
well If you have qualcomm phone and your partition layout get messed up during a bad flash you hardbricked your phone. Unbricking qualcomm phone is realy hard. You need special hardwares and softwares which you have to buy and you have to disassemble the phone completly then you can unbrick hardbricked qualcomm phone.

I don't really know what you mean by ''lg nexus 4..??''
nexus 4 is a great phone and it is true that it is unbrickeable if you have a riff box. I think it is hard to brick any android phone. If everything goes right. I mean that you don't flash galaxy s4 cm rom to nexus 4, or your computer dont get bluescreen during flashing rom, or the electricity from the house don't go out during flashing rom.
If the bootloader and the partition layout don't get damaged you are fine. CWM is always there for you and the flashing tools. But if the bootloader or partition layoutn damaged you are in a big problem
We are lucky with our p990 or su660 because we don't need any special hardware like riff box or spending 20$ to a unknown guy, who probably has a riffbox, to unbrick the hardbricked phone.
Sent from my LG-P990 using xda app-developers app
That's one of the reasons I bought the o2x.
Whatever happens, nvflash is there for you. I hope more phones will get this kind of options, this way people don't get afraid to flash roms, because everything that goes wrong can be easily fixed.

Even so, thanks for your explanation, i didn't think it was so hard to work with any other kind of smartphone that is not O2x.

I can't be 100% sure unless I try myself, but as I read the post about htc one x and optimus 4x it looks like they can't use it, or if they even try, then things are just getting worse.
Maybe nexus 7 has working nvflash. I was reading topics about that. So they were able to read back partitions with nvflash, but there is no nvflash rom for nexus 7 like to our optimus 2x nvflash rom. I don't know why. Maybe nexus 7 owners don't know how to do that, or it is not possible. Sadly nexus 7 is a tablet and not aphone
I think "unbrickable" can apply to most new Android phones out there as long as there is an unbricking tool released (i.e. kdz flasher for LGs).
As long as your power button, volume buttons, and USB port are still working, it's more or less guaranteed you can recover from a bad flash. If any one of those break (especially the USB port), then even NVFlash won't save you!

USB otg htc 510 64 bits

Hi everyone,
I would use my mouse/usb key on my HTC desire 510. If i understood after my researches, that's not possible on all smartphone...
So, is that possible on our HTC ?
Thanks for your future answers !
yes our stock kernel supports usb otg, as well as supplying power out. i use a 32gb sandisk usb flash drive with my 510.
Thanks for your answer.
So, i bought this the hama otg (i cannot send a link) but when i plug it in my phone, i get a message like "Phone in host mode, impossible to..."
I root it with your img.

It shouldn't be much of an issue. It does that for me too but still works, do any other errors present themselves?
Sent from my XT1028 using XDA Free mobile app
Well, i just plug the otg in my phone, without other usb. It show me "Phone in USB host". I tried with OTG checker, my kernel is ok but no signal detected by the application.
I tried to turn off the phone, & remove the battery, then put in again & turn on. When i plug in the OTG, nothing appened for a moment then the cursor of the mouse that i connected in the OTG appear for just 1 second, like a flash & the message back again.
No other problems
Today i tried to make my own OTG usb to see if the problem is the phone or the OTG hama.
When i plug my own OTG usb, nothing happen. When i plug the other OTG i just get the same message i said in my previous answers, nothing else happen.
Any idea ? I don't know but is anything i have to do like turn ON USB debug or anything else ?
Edit: I got a Xperia today to try my OTG, it seems that he works well so i just need to ask: Is the HTC desire 510 64bits EU is compatible OTG ? If it is, why my phone don't recognised my OTG ?
Still need some answers here
It just not support USB HID over USB (mouse and keyboard). Could've been disabled by HTC (reason for cursor disappearing after 1 sec of plugging in).
Sent from my XT1028 using XDA Free mobile app
Hi ! Sorry for insisting but i read on official htc web site that the htc desire 510 support usb storage. So, why nothing else that the previous message happen.
I bought another OTG today & it's forever the same...
I want to bump this topic, I have european 64-bit version and when I connect OTG cable there's info shown about phone being in usb host mode but nothing else is happening.
My thought is that tey give this option to 32-bit US version and then disable it (clumsy) in european version.
Sorry for grammar, english is not my native language.
I dont personally own a desire 510 but I know that 90% of otg issues are with the cable... Try another cable because all are not the same...

I had that issue when I flashed a moded kernel. Had to go back to a stock kernel and it fixed the usb issue
Sent from my 0PCV1 using XDA Free mobile app
USB OTG pops up a message in the notifications bar to let you know that you cannot simultaneously charge your device and utilise an USB device. The only reason that I can think of why the mouse cursor would disappear after a second is because you have your finger on the screen. I use my OTG with my digital camera (via Google Photos), USB Keyboard, USB Mouse, another Android device, and a 64GB flash drive almost daily, and I don't seem to have any problems.
Hello, can you please explain the details for that?

If your phone is not rooted and doesn't have a custom recovery installed on it then there is no way possible that you're using a different kernel, that means that you already have the stock kernel! Is your phone 64 bit?

Where are you from? If you're in the USA then it more than likely is 32 bit but if you're in another Country it's a really good chance that you're using a 64 bit and from what I've read about it the 64 bit for some reason or another doesn't work correctly with the usb otg and I can't exactly do anything to help with that since I don't have access to any 64 bit phones.

When you start it pick #4 fixed then #5 unbrick.. You must have had USB Debugging mode Enable prior to bricking.. Also check device manager in windows and check ports.. Will try to help you the best I can, had the same issue 3 days after getting the phone.. If you get it to work after use th Lg program and do fix phone or you will have a lot of issues.
No JOY,

The problem I'm running into is there isn't a bunch of disks shown, only the fixed disks in my comp. So nothing is being seen or they are not there to see.

That is what should happen.. You need the qhsusb QUALCOMM DRIVER..
it is seen as that and on com 7, tried the srktool, no drives detected. the qhsusb_bulk driver loads so it does see something......
Well, I guess it's dead if no one else has any suggestions....... what a shame I really liked this device.

So here is what I know, an attempt was made to update my G2 by someone other than myself. It now has a black screen and no recovery, it has also been attempted to be repaired by the same person. My pc no longer sees my phone, no download mode or anything else. Is there any hope for this device?

I have the VS980 (Verizon version) and I was completely...and I mean completely dead (due to my own mistake) , no charge, no power, no download mode, no led, nothing at all. I had a full on 100% brick sitting on my desk. BUT.....I went here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/general/lg-g2-unbrickable-fix-real-hard-brick-t2904404 and was able to bring it back to life. Now yes you do have to open the device and mess with inside parts but i was able to get mine going. The guide here is for the other models (specifically not the vs980) but I was able to finagle the inside parts to make it work the way I needed to. From there I was able to boot back up and i flashed all the way back to 10B and just OTA back up to lollipop and root again and install TWRP and I'm back up to where I was a few weeks ago, of course I lost everything (texts, photos) in the process but I am back up and running and I am happy I was able to pull that off thanks to the great folks who figure all this stuff up for us.
So I would say go for it and try it, or if not I could do it for you, and if not I'm am surely positive that someone here can help you figure it out with your current situation. Cheers.
PS, if you dont want to mess with it, just let me have it LOL!
