[Q] Having problem with downgrading and s-off using Clockwork Mod Recovery - HTC Incredible S

i was following this noob guide to s-off and root my incredible s. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1705913)
((Section 1
1. Make a new folder on desktop called 'Downgrade'
2. Download this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...5&d=1339391278
3. Make a new folder in 'Downgrade' called 'Downgrade Kit'
4. Extract the download into 'Downgrade Kit'
5. Now you should have a folder called 'Downgrade' on your desktop, inside that should be another folder called 'Downgrade Kit', inside that there should be a folder called 'files' and a program called 'runme.cmd'.
6. Make a new folder inside 'Downgrade' called 'RUU'
7. Download this and save it to folder 'RUU': http://www.filefactory.com/file/c0af...308_signed.exe
8. Connect phone to computer, and choose ‘Charge Only’ not ‘Disk Drive’. Enable USB Debugging, and disable Fastboot (If you don’t know how to, ask Dr. Google)
9. Open runme.cmd, it will ask questions! Answer according to your phone not mine! The questions are (If I can remember) i) Do you have root? I answered n. ii) Have you unlocked through htcdev.com? I answered no. iii) Do you want to create a goldcard? I answered y
10. After it successfully completes (if it doesn’t post below) run the RUU in the RUU folder (Remember it erases all data so if you need to, backup everything) , it will take around 10 mins. BE PATIENT!
11. After it installs check if your HBOOT has been downgraded! It should be 1.13.0000!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Section 2
1. Go to (revolutionary.io) and scroll down to hit ‘Downloads for Windows’ (But keep the website open)
2. Download and extract the .zip to a folder
3.Fill in the boxes for the beta key (on the revolutionary website)
You should fill it out like this
Your Operating System: Windows/Linux (Depending on yours)
Your Device: HTC Incredible S
HBOOT Version: 1.13.0000
Serial Number: (Your serial number)
4. Copy and paste that beta key into a notepad file and save it to the desktop! Beware copy and recheck if it matches
5. Connect phone, choose ‘Charge Only’, enable USB Debugging and disable Fastboot
6. Run revolutionary.exe
7. When it asks you to input beta key, do it!
8. When it asks you whether you want to flash Clockwork Mod Recovery, type y
9. Once it is done, the cmd will close
10. Confirm that you have S – Off in the bootloader!
11. So far so good!
12. Reboot into bootloader if you are not and then open up recovery, it should go to Clockwork Mod Recovery
13. While phone is in Clockwork Mod, connect phone to computer
14. Select Mounts and Storage by using the volume buttons to move and power to select.
15. Then select mount sdcard (the sd card directory should pop up on your computer screen)
16. Download the root .zip file and save it to your computer (do NOT extract it) (http://d-h.st/yzV)
17. Copy the root .zip file to the root of your sdcard and wait for it to transfer (not in any folders, just on the sd card itself).
18. On your device, select unmount sdcard.
19. On your device, select go back.
20. Then select Install zip from sdcard and choose the root .zip file.
21. Wait for it to flash, once done, select reboot system now.
22. Once your device reboots, open the app drawer and you should see Superuser permissions there. If so, you are all set, you are rooted, have S-Off and a custom recovery image.))
However until Section 2 step 15, i am stuck now. i mount my sdcard follwing the instructions, but the sd card directory doesnt pop up on my computer screen. What could be the problem??

I tried to follow this guide 2-3 times but whenever i run runme.cmd it asks me if i my phone is rooted. I say y and then it gets stuck at "Downgrading". If i disconnect USB, it asks about the gold card but it doesn't get downgraded.

Difference between a Boot-Loop, Semi-Brick, and a full Brick
Boot-Loop
Q. What is a Boot-Loop?
A. A boot loop is when your phone is stuck on the "ANDROID" screen when u first boot your phone (after the G1 screen or the My Touch screen). This occurs when something you have flashed went bad or interfeared with something you already had installed.
Solution:
1. Turn off your phone
2. Enter Recovery (Hold HOME while holding the POWEr button)
3. Choose from the following:
- Install a rom you KNOW works. Such as the latest cyanogenROM or the rom you have been preivously using
or
- Make a full wipe of your SD Card an phone and flash your update again
Semi-Brick
Q. What is a Semi-Brick?
A. A Semi-Brick is when your phone wont boot at all. The only thing is, you still have access to the recovery and/or fastboot menu
Solution:
Brick
Q. What is a Brick?
A. A Brick is when your phone wont boot at all. This time, you DO NOT have access to the recovery AND fastboot menu. Basically, your phone is a paper weight.
Solution:
You can try this fix here which requires a Donor G1 to work:
HERE
OR
Try to get a new phone.

......Android opens .apks, you would need androzip to extract a zip file. Linda will only open .apks to install..
Nicely done, as usual.
Would this guide be the same if I was using Super D as the rom?

No need to panic. As long as you can access the Blue Android Logo, you are fine.
Please list, step by step, what you did (including ROM Version Numbers).
Also - you might want to try flashing/wiping your phone. That seems to take care of many issues, but I'd still like to see what you did.

Recovery and Rooting ICS 4.0.3 OTA

I did the following steps to install recovery. Feel free to do this at your own risk.
My thanks to AndroidHero, Vertigo and Shingers5 for Touch recovery and rooting zip files.
1) Unlock Bootloader (if it locked goto htcdev.com site and follow all steps)
2) Download .zip file and Extract recovery_for_1.28.img from the .zip
3) Copy recovery_for_1.28.img to the same folder as fastboot.exe
4) Select usb debugging (settings>develope option)
5) Connect phone with usb cable to pc and select charge only
6) Goto android-sdk folder and then into platform-tools
7) Shift & Right Click and select open command window here
8) type 'adb reboot bootloader' <enter> (without quotes)
9) In the command window type fastboot flash recovery recovery_for_1.28.img
10) type Exit and disconnect phone
11) reboot the phone.
This recovery is touch recovery and seems to be in its crude form but functional.
If you want to root your phone then do the following,
search for this file CWM-SuperSU-v0.88 and copy to the root directory of your phone and flash using zip from sd card option. You will find this file on the last line.
Goto android-sdk folder and then into platform-tools
Shift & Right Click and select open command window here
type adb reboot-bootloader <enter>
Select fastboot
Select Recovery (Using vol down)
Select install zip from sdcard
Select install from zip file
Scroll down to the place where you copied your CWM-SuperSU-v0.88 file and select it
It will do the root
reboot
Download root checker app from play store and check if you are rooted.
This worked for me. Your comment will be highly appreciated, and do not forget to click my Thanks Meter.

[2/9/12] Updated All in One Noob Guide For Downgrade and S Off

Hey guys, I have had a lot of requests for how to S Off and Downgrade HBOOT etc.
So here it is! The most easy guide! Read the key first! Also if you are on a custom rom, it will be deleted but then you can install it after this process.
Update: I have updated the Downgrade Toolkit thanks to nonverbose
People who have already completed my guide WILL NOT have to do it again. Also I cant promise that phones shipped with ICS and Sense 3.6 will be compatible with this guide!
Key:
If you have HBOOT 1.13.0000, S On = Follow from Section 3 but if you already have Root Access skip Steps from 13 and onwards
If you have HBOOT 1.16.0000, or HBOOT 2.00 S On= Start from the top
I am not responsible for anything that happens to your device! But if you follow word to word, nothing will happen!

7. Download this and save it to folder 'RUU': http://www.filefactory.com/file/c0a...5AU_3805.06.03.03_M_release_199308_signed.exe
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Section 2

6. Run revolutionary.exe
7. When it asks you to input beta key, do it!
8. When it asks you whether you want to flash Clockwork Mod Recovery, type y

Hey guys, I have had a lot of requests for how to S Off and Downgrade HBOOT etc.
So here it is! The most easy guide! Read the key first! Also if you are on a custom rom, it will be deleted but then you can install it after this process
Key:
If you have HBOOT 1.13.0000, S On = Follow from Section 3 but if you already have Root Access skip Steps from 13 and onwards
If you have HBOOT 1.16.0000, or HBOOT 2.00 S On= Start from the top

Your radio will only change if you change it manually. Changing roms doesn't change the radio.

Yes a RUU contains a new radio image, so it would update your radio.

[Guide] How to unlock Boot loader and flash custom ROMs.

Here's a guide to unlocking the bootloader, flash a recovery image, and install a custom ROM on your Incredible s.
If you're not experienced with this sort of thing I advise you get help or not do it at all. I'm not responsible for anything that happens to your phone, but it is highly rare that anything will go wrong
1. Go to www.htcdev.com and log in/create an account. When logged in, click on 'Unlock Bootloader'
Now simply follow the on screen instructions provided by HTC. Some of the process requires getting some files from the Android SDK and you will needs the HTC drivers which come with HTC Sync, but this will all be explained through the process.
Now as I said, you need some files from the SDK which you can get here:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4263022/HTC Dev Tools.zip
I recommend putting these somewhere easy like the root of your C: drive in a folder called 'Android' like I will for the tutori. If you're still sure, select yes, and the process will complete.
2) you should see a little message pop up now asking if you'd like to go ahead and unlock the boot loader. Select yes.
3. Once done, your phone's bootloader will be unlocked, this will enable you to flash a recovery image.
4. Go to
http://download2.clockworkmod.com/re...0.2.0-vivo.img
and download the recovery image for the Incredible S. Put it in the "android" folder with the other files needed for the unlock process. This file is the ClockWorkMod recovery for the incredible s.
5. Shut down your phone. Plug it in via USB to your PC which you set up during the HTC unlock process. Hold volume down, and press power and the phone will boot into the bootloader. Wait for it to scan your SD card, then ensure "Fastboot" is highlighted and press power.
6. On your PC, load up a command prompt - open the Start menu, go to Run, and type "cmd".
7. In the command prompt window, type the following, assuming the HTC unlock files are all in C:android.
Code:
cd c:android
Then type:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery <recovery_name.img>
Don't forget the .img on the end, and replace "recovery_name" with the specific name of the recovery image you want to use. For ClockWorkMod linked to in step 4, you'd type:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery cwm-4.0.1.4-vivo.img
After a few seconds, ClockWordMod will have been flashed to your phone.
8. Reboot your phone, there should be an option in the fastboot menu (volume up and down to navigate, power to select). It should boot as per normal. Put it into USB disk mode, and download a ROM that you'd like to use. CyanogenMod is what I'm going to use: http://www.cyanogenmod.com/devices/htc-incredible-s
Download the ROM and place it in the root of your SD card
9. Power off the phone. Hold volume down and press power to boot back into the bootloader. Use volume down to select "Recovery" and press power. ClockWorkMod recovery will load.
10. Using volume up/down and power to select, go down to Backup/Restore. Select it, then click backup. ClockWorkMod will backup your stock ROM in case there are any needs to switch back.
11. After that (takes about 5 minutes), go back to the main menu. Select wipe data/factory reset and confirm. Go back to the main menu, select Advanced > Wipe Dalvik cache
12. Go to the main menu, and select "Install zip from sdcard". Next choose "Select Zip from SD card" and select the ROM you'd like to install. Confirm this action, and ClockWorkMod will install your new ROM. When done, shut down your phone.
13. Ordinarily you'd be done after that, and you could boot into your new ROM. However HBOOT 1.16 does some random stuff and tends to cause problems. I think it interferes with the installation of the boot.img that ordinarily would be flashed with the ROM. Get the ROM that you downloaded earlier (CyanogenMod in this tutorial), and on your computer, unzip the file somewhere. Once done, inside you'll see a file called "boot.img". Put this in the same folder as your other Android tools that you used earlier. Power your phone on, hold volume down, but don't choose "recovery", choose "usb fastboot".
14. Open up your command prompt again (Start > Run > "cmd"), and type (using the "android" folder for this example):
Code:
cd c:android
fastboot flash boot boot.img
This will flash the boot.img to your phone.
Power off the phone, reboot it, and that should be it!
If this helps please leave a thank you.
Good luck

This is a step by step guide to root Nexus 5
PLEASE MAKE A BACKUP of your files on your internal storage.

Step1: go to Settings->About Phone > hit the “Build Number” until you get “You are now a developer”.
Step2: go to Settings->“Developer options and turn ON “USB debugging” .
Step3: Connect the device to computer.
Step4: For Windows,we need to install drivers.
Right click on My computer and select Manage and select Device Manager

if you don't get this and instead get offline, then check USB debugging is enabled or not and reconnect the device and install drivers again
in device manager(step4)
Step6: Turn off your Nexus 5.Then hold down Volume Down and Power buttons together for 3 seconds until you see the bootloader menu.

and unlock the bootloader.

Step12: Power off your Nexus 5. Then hold Volume Down and Power buttons together until you see the bootloader menu then connect
USB cable from Nexus 5 to your computer.
Step13: Go to command prompt and type: fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.1-hammerhead.img (for TWRP)
OR
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-6.0.4.4-hammerhead.img (for CWM)
Step14: Next, use Volume buttons on your Nexus 5 and choose “Recovery mode” and hit the Power button.
Step15: Once in CWM or TWRP recovery, choose “Install zip from sdcard” or “Install”. (choose “choose zip from sdcard” for CWM.)
Step16: Browse your internal storage and find the file UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.65.zip. Install this file to root your Nexus 5.
Now your Nexus 5 is ROOTED.
Step17: Next, choose “reboot” from main menu of CWM or TWRP recovery.
:good:Your NEXUS 5 is now ROOTED:good:
PLEASE hit the THANKS:good: button if my post is useful
