My camera takes 2-3 seconds to take a picture, and it's quite often out of focus too.
This has always been a problem for me on Cyanogen 7, and also Slim ICS 4.2 (both CM9 kernel and Semaphore).
Anyone know what the cause might be? I can't find much on google/xda about slow GT-I9000 cameras.
I don't remember the stock ROMs ever being that slow.

the problem of the slow autofocus is caused by the camera (hardware) and i noticed, that it take ages to focus, when you try to make a picture in the dark. I read that the Valuepack has a faster autofocus but now i flashed the valuepack and its as slow as it is on any other rom. I think this problem can't be solved so far...

I seem to have found a way to stop the ridiculous lag on the camera, although I'm not sure this will work for everyone.
I have a non-standard version of the Camera software installed (I think it's the Touch version from somewhere on here - not sure who, I'm pretty new here so please forgive me), but I've noticed that if I start the camera up, then put the device into standby for a few seconds, then turn it back on again, the camera is *far* more responsive, and this is for both still images and for video.
I have no idea why this is - someone more technically intimate with the Kaiser can probably shed some light on it, but it seems to work for me.
The only downside I can see is that it makes the low-light compensation stop working, but in situations with plenty of light there's no difference whatsoever in image/video brightness.

camera is ugly?
my camera quality is so ugly i have one of the newsest camera software installed. i dont mean the lag or anything i just mean the camera quality is so blurry and unclear i have sharpness on high and styll :S
when i press a camera button to take a picture and it auto focuses before the green thing comes for juss like half a second everything is clear buh then becomes super blurry. any suggestions or is jus broken
hello i got some strange problems with my I9000 on DarkyRom v10.2.2
my camera got some faliure i think, after i take a shot, everything looks good. But when i get out of the camera software and try to view the pictures with some other software sometimes my who picture is grey / black or huge parts of pictures are grey/black.
I tried to search the net but nobody got similar problems, some times my camera is working fine, but some times i have this problem.
Are the images big? It could be that they need some time to load and you just have to be patient let me know, as I too had issues on DarkyROM 10.2.2

Hi guys. Recently I've noticed a bad camera problem with my IncS. You see when I open the camera app ( on MIUI's ROM ) it lags pretty badly. When I point the camera at one direction, and move to another, it lags. But if I repeatedly click my menu softkey button while moving my camera around, it doesnt lag at all. Does anyone know a fix to this? Thanks in advance!
oh and I restored back to the original ROM I had running which was the official htc's latest rom for the IncS and the camera works fine. no lag issues. Seems like when I flash AOSP roms, the camera lags. help?
I find any AOSP rom has laggy camera in low light
When I take it to better lighting conditions the lag goes away
You're not alone mate
I think it has something to do with trying to take in as much light as possible when there is not enough
@markj338 yeah I actually thought that that might be a possible reason to its horrible lag, so I took it outside this afternoon at around 12pm. It was bright but still the lag was there. And just to be clear, its no ordinary lag. It's like if i point at one place, it shows that place, but when I move my camera away, it waits for around 10 seconds before it shows that place. If you get what I'm trying to say here.. Sorry for the horrible english. But yeah.. that's the problem :/ thanks anyway appreciate it.
Oh mine only lags a bit
When I move, the image will be slow and distorted and will take its time to focus
But not 10 secs, mine is like less than 1, its just choppy and distorted
I'm on CM 7.2
Mine could probably be classified as 'ordinary lag'
Like if you were using a crappy low range phone
What rom are you using, and does this happen in all lighting conditions?
@markj338 well right now im back on my sense rom. the official one. I restored. But I tried miui's rom, cm7.2 and the camera's the same. When I click the menu button repeatedly, then it's ok. but if i dont click anything, it lags a lot....... so yea

hi guys i know this question is bit annoying but i would like to know if this is possible to make our camera when taking picture to continuously focus on a object and when i change the camera position it automatically focus on object, i notice that when im taking picture using o2x it took almost 3seconds sometimes 5-6 seconds to focus and that's really annoying, specially when im taking a picture of me together with my friends our smile is fading before the camera focus itself perfectly and i believe if this feature include on our camera it can take photos much faster
i saw a youtube video o4xHD vs o2x i dont know if thats the video but from what i saw o2x camera taking some time to focus but the o4x it continuously taking picture quickly when touch the capture button on screen
so is there a possibility to make this mod in our camera so it can enhance the capturing time
are you on v28 ics?
v30 ICS camera is 2x/3X faster with everything you do with camera app
and v30 does have better flash photo's (not overexposed by flash)

I agree. May be not quite 2-3 times faster in my experience, but definitely faster. And yes, flash also works well. It may not be a very typical usage of a phone camera, but today I had to make a couple of photos of printed pages (very small font, about 6pt) with a flash in a poorly lit room, and the quality was well beyond my expectations. Perfectly readable text, nice contrast and minimal noise, with no editing at all.

a camera that is not focusing make blurry pix.
however tap the screen to focus manual and then take a picture reduces the time.
first thing you might do is install v30 ICS because it has a faster cam

I don't know if it is very common or not but I have been facing a lot of camera lag. It takes some time whenever I open the camera app although photos are clicked without lag.
Apart from that, whenever I have to share a photo through WhatsApp and go to camera to click the picture, the lag seems much higher and a few times phone hanged and restarted too.
Is it an issue with WhatsApp or maybe after the kitkat update the Camera performance is still not upto mark.
yeah... i've been facing this same issue... but .... to take regular photos.. if i try to shoot any photo takes 10... 15 seconds or to open the camera or to take the photo.... i will try to flash a custom rom today and see if this issue remains....
im facing the same issues since 4.4..... sometimes i think i should go back to 4.2.2 because that was the best room till now
