TouchWiz Apps on Latest PARANOIDANDROID. V1.7 Rom??? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Guyz,
I ve few ques relating PARANOIDANDROID Rom v1.7
> do we can have tw apps like s-note, s-memo,etc in PARANOIDANDROID Rom???
> is it a stable rom for day 2 day use???
> Can we flash Speedmode or NoteCore Kernels???
> can we install sum tweeks mod app or widgets from XDA???
> will this rom give full access to use note as a tab???
I insist plz answer ques as im very much fed-up of using des TW UI Launchers????
If NO!.....den is there any way to install S-Apps on it???
PLZ HELP...!!!

From what I understand is that TW apps don't work in AOSP based roms.

Try searching the ROM thread.. Samsung apps such as Snote etc will not work..

> NO, apps like that are based on the Touchwiz framework. They will not work. There are replacements, such as Papyrus, designed to work especially with the S-Pen.
> YES, it is a VERY stable ROM in its current state. Just like CM9, Asylum and mostly anything based on Cyanogen
> You can flash whatever kernels THAT ARE NOT MADE FOR TOUCHWIZ! I don't know exactly if the kernels you named are for touchwiz or for Cyanogen Mod (CM), but they split into TWO DISTINCT CATEGORIES.
TOUCHWIZ KERNELS
CYANOGEN MOD KERNELS
RESEARCH BEFORE YOU FLASH! I think there's a stickie post somwhere around here.
> You can use Carbon Tweaks Installer, it works amazing and it does make a sensitive difference
> The ROM is designed as a hybrid between Tablet and Phone. You can decide by hand which app will run in tablet mode and which will run in phone mode, depending on your preferences and so on.
Hope that clears your questions.

Ranking of custom roms for sgm ?

Guys can you rank custom roms for sgm based on performance.
Sent from my GT-S5570 using xda premium
Here is the ranking
1. Pure CyanogenMod 7.2.0-RC1
2. Unofficial CyanogenMod 7.2.0-RC1
3. Official CM7
4. emanoN ROM v6
5. CyanMobile initial A (very customization but very very laggy, unsatisfactory, unstable, I never liked it)
Hit Thanks if it helps.
Ranking based on:
1. Performance & smoothness (Hardware acceleration)
2. Customization (like I don't like haptic feedback on long press, CM7 can disable it, but not stock based custom ROMS)
3. Themes (CM7 has more and better themes)
4. Working (like font size reduced by spare parts in CM7 REALLY reduce font size, but stock based ROMS don't reduce fonts, they go back to larger font, and also with small fonts, toast notifications fonts are not small)
5. Modifications ( Mods for CM7 are more)
6. Many features on Stock based Custom ROMS are imported from CM7, but I don't know how many of them work as satisfactorily as on CM7.
Thanks a lot dude.
And what aboute More 1.4 Rom ?
Sent from my GT-S5570 using XDA Premium
More ROM verdict
More ROM is just another stock based custom ROM, like emanoN ROM, but it has less themes than themes for emanoN ROM, and is less popular than emanoN ROM.
Functionality wise, there not much difference between the two ROMS, I think emanoN ROM is better than More ROM.
My suggestion: Rank 1 is the best custom ROM (Pure CyanogenMod 7.2.0-RC1), & I use the odexed ROM, ( visit the page, there are 2 types odex & deodex, I use odexed ROM).
Thanks apourv.

I don't know how many people will agree, but I think Squad's RC5.7 definitely deserves a mention as one of the best roms available for Mini. It's my fave so far

Actually it is very hard to rank Tom's like this cause everyone has a different choice. Some like stock some like miui some like cm7/9. But for me it is,
Cyanomobile revolution a 21 05 2012.
Cyanogenmod 9
Emanon v6
Miui
Cyanogenmod7 mrbitek build
Ics cyanogenmod cooked by autoradio with adrenaline engine 4.1.
Sent from my GT-S5570 using XDA
Well i haven't done benchmarks so i'll rank on the smoothness of the rom on default clock
1. Emanon
2. Andro-ID
3. Gingermod
4. and so on come the CM7 derivatives
Thanks guys your review were helpful to me a lot.

Really ranking dies not matter what matter is your choice
So try ecerything and choose what u loke.
But here is a simple principle the more the rom has feature it will be less stable and battery and vice versa.

i agree with you sir. it will really be good if you can try out different roms. in my experience though, i've used emanon from its v1 to v5. i tried v6 but went back to v5 because of bugs that caused my phone to be a little unreliable.
i switched to cm7.2 by mebitek just to have a taste of what cyanogenmod can do and i liked it.
im still looking forward to use the next version of emanon though.
good luck on your choice!
1)Andro-id v3.3.1 by Tj-style(SUPER FAST)
2)Mebitek's CM7.2
3)Team Galaxy ICS's CM9 Beta7(for awesome framework and SUPERB MUSIC QWALITY)
4)Squadzone's Cyanmobile RevoA

For me, the winner is miui for theme customizing. It's awesome! And after using it for almost 2 months, it got pretty stable obviously I have to reflash it once in a while, but I don't mind
it was a stupid thing to rank all the custom rom based only on personal taste..sighhhh..every user has its own expectation on their phone..so for TT,why dont u try all the rom,and choose the best for u..hmmmm..

Well I would recommend you the Asylum ICS rom in CM9 base or if u want the AOKP go ahead with my rom Half-Illusion
Both are light and fast
Also can try the Paranoid Android rom if you want custom app dpi.
Above all roms are AOSP and doesn't include any samsung features!
Kernel comes with the custom rom. U can flash newer versions of kernel from the kernel repository link in my siggi.
BOOMED from my BOMBASTIC NOTE
Depends what features you are looking for,
If you're just looking for something smooth and stable and close to Stock (With Samsung Apps etc) then check out the ICS ROM CleaNote which comes bundled with the Dev's own kernel.
If you're not bothered about the Spen apps etc then I'd say give Paranoid Android a go..
It's personal preference really, Just have a read through the threads in the Dev section, Most of them have screenshots or a video showing features and installation method..
But, as You're on Stock ICS at the moment, be careful and DO NOT Wipe / Factory Reset on a STOCK ICS Kernel.
Cheers

As u said u ve been rooted y dont u try removing sum non essential apps from Titaniun Backup or Root Explorer App from Play Store as i truely recommend u dont try ant custom rom as non of rom r stable as in sum point....stock is stable and u dont lose ur s-pen apps as well....
but if u really curious den go for custom stock rom wid sum sort of tweaks done.....
First backup efs to multiple locations, use dr ketans tool thread to find out how

Speed and stability
Speed and stability depend both on rom as well as kernel.. most of the sammy based custom roms use notecore these days which is also my personal favorite:good:

PARANOIDANDROID vs touchwiz

Hello.
i`m realy curious about what the difference is between PARANOIDANDROID and stock or custom ics rom from samsung
now i now the UI is different but i maybe want to flash to PARANOIDANDROID
what are the + point and what are the - sides of the rom JB PARANOIDANDROID
personal preference and customizable to a great extent.. lot of features like hybrid mode and per app dpi settings.
if you want to know more about the rom, you should definitely check out the main thread

Anyone want SIMPLE Stock Based Custom ROM?

I'm planning to release a simple STOCK Based Custom ROM because there are junt too many ICS, JB ROMs in which one couldn't multitask easily and would often freeze etc. It would include:
XWKTN (2.3.6) as base ROM;
OC(upto 864mhz) kernel by tj_style (as the in andro-id 3.3.1);
a2sd (Darktremor) support;
Seeder included;
Many icons changed (battery too);
Nice font (Don't remember the name);
ICS animations;
Samsung EnergySaver included;
Swype 1.4 (latest official one, not samsung's) included;
Messaging app with skin chooser mod;
ICS like dialer;
Droidwall included;
Some nice ringtones and notification sounds;
Last and not the least...
Under the hood tweaks for performance and gaming.
This ROM's main target is stability and responsiveness. It is fast as many bloatware are removed. Good for gaming, multitasking. It would be a simple stock based custom rom with not much eye-candy but under the hood tweaks. Don't request much themeing and apps as it would ruin the rom's purpose of stability and responsiveness.
Please answer here only and no PM's.

[Q] Switching ROMs

I currently have the JB based SweetRom v7 installed on my Galaxy Note.
Recently it was pointed out to me by a friend that CM based ROMs have a better functionality and are easier to use. Me, never having used a CM based ROM (not even on a friend's phone), am kind of in a dilemma whether or not to switch.
It would be of great help if you could help me out with the Pros and Cons of both JB based and CM based ROMs and if I should give CM a try. Also, a list (If possible) about the features which might not work/are absent from CM based ROMs..
Also, an elaborate guide to switching from JB to CM and a ROM suggestion for a first-time CM user will be very helpful.
Thanks in advance guys.

I'll answer part of your question. If you switch to a CM-based ROM, you won't be able to use S Pen-based apps such as the S Note, as it is tightly integrated into Touchwiz.
4.1.2 JB LT4 Union ROM v7, LT3 Modem, PhilZ LT4 kernel, Carrier: AT&T (US)
Will i not be able to use only the apps or the S-Pen as a whole?

You would not be able to use Samsung applications for S-pen but you can use their alternatives from play store, also FM does not work but you can use Spirit FM, No Wi-Fi Direct but you can use the alternatives from play store.
Edit: Just so that you know, CM based roms are much faster and smother than the TW or stock rom. Also has lot more customisation to it compared to TW. TW also has customization but you will have to apply then or use a customized TW rom.

Yep, as already was said here, the spen apps, and functionality like scrolling, hovering stuff doesn't work.
Not every ROM is the same, so ones can be faster and others slower.
If You would like to have many many options I would recommend You to flash the jellybam ROM. It's slower but greater.
You may also try android 4.3
Okay, So I finally decided to go with JB 4.2.2 SuperNexus ROM.
I'm still confused about how to flash it. I've gone through the procedure and I understand it all but I'm now sure how to Switch from Philz recovery to CWM recovery?
I know this sounds stupid but this is the only thing keeping me from flashing the CM Rom.
Do I flash a CM based kernel to change from Philz recovery to CWM or is there something more?
Help will be greatly appreciated!
As for note the recovery is in the kernel, you will need to flash a cm kernel.
But you could directly flash it using philz recovery. When the rom installs it will install cm kernel and overwrite philz kernel.

So I just need to flash the ROM and Gapps through Philz recovery to get it working?
All that head-banging went in vain, I guess -_-
Thanks a ton!
it wont go in vain.. will come handy some day,. there was an issue with Philz recovery not able to install CM/AOSP roms.. (error 7). which was resolved in the latter updates,, if you get the same error ... then flash a CM kernel first and then reboot recovery and flash the rom.
