[Q] Brick Challenge lvl hard - Milestone stucks on bootload - Motorola Droid and Milestone Q&A, Help & Troublesh

Whats up cheers!
After try flash a droid kernel, my milestone stucks on the bootload on this err:A5,69,4E,00,23 (version 90.78). But, i can access the normal bootload with no error, pressing UP when the phone starts.
The RSDLite recognise my device, but without any informations (before it, when I had flashed the vunerable recovery, a lot of infos, like the OMAP platform appears on the screen).
I can access the recovery screen, but without the menu, just the /!\ image (my device don't work with VolUp+Cam [the buttons work perfectly on the android], to install my CM7 custom rom i had to instal some scripts on the stock rom, but the device don't starts anymore, so i can't install any script).
So, I think, if I can open the recovery menu and re-install the cm7 my brick will be back, but HOW? Exists a mod to work this way?
Sorry for my bad english, i'm brazilian.

As long as RSDlite sees the device, you should be able to SBF back to stock. Once you are back to stock you can go through the root process again, install Open Recovery, and then you will be able to restore your nandroid backup.
Another option is, and I don't know anything about the Open Recovery for Milestones, but some custom recoveries have a way of cold booting straight into the recovery. If you can find out how to do that then you are golden, if not then you will have to SBF.

Try these two things, if they don't work then I think you are stuck with SBFing.
From phone off state - Hold Power+X. When you get to the triangle with !, try either VolUp+VolDown or VolUp+Camera. If you don't get into the recovery that way, try:
From phone off state - Hold Power+Camera. If that gets you to a triangle with ! then try the same key combinations from above.
If neither of those work for you, then SBF your phone and start over. If you get bootloops after SBFing, boot into the stock recovery with Power+X and wipe data/factory reset.

I had downloaded the Brazi Retail one on this link: sbf.droid-developers(dot)org/umts_sholes/list.php (I can't link before 10 posts, change the (dot))
But, before the flash, i saw a problem: The A853 SBF is only for Canada, the rest, i think, may be for the Droid, and not for the Milestone.
Please, help me one more time! How version I need?

All of those should be for the Milestone. Any of the Brazilian ones should work for you, they are most likely just different versions of the OS. If you press back in the upper left hand corner of that page it shows that the Droid (A854,A855) has it's own download area. All the Brazilian ones seem to be the SHLA SBF's and I believe that is what you are looking for.

haha, not sure I've been on here long enough to have friends to call upon. I'll go through that list again tomorrow and see if I can figure out what went wrong.

Are you running RSDLite as Administrator? If that is not the issue, try to shorten the path and filename (you have a space in your path? (M MS)). You could also try to use earlier versions of RSD, I used 4.9 with no problems (mostly).

I had flashed this sbf: SHLA_U2_05.14.0_SIGNED_USASHLSMR1RETBRLA038.0R_PDS002_USASHLSMR1RETBRLA_P010_A008_M002_HWp2a_WIG145942_Service1FF.sbf
The file can be found here: sbf.droid-developers . org/umts_sholes/list.php is a retail brazilian version (about 116 mb)
RSD Lite version used: 5.6 (without adm permitions)
OS: Win 7
The file has renamed as stck.sbf and putted on the C:\ root directory
Thanks for everybody. And now, I wanna help the people with the same problem as me, so, any questions about this process you can ask me by PM.

Great news. Glad to hear you are up and running. Welcome back.

I tried all the ways it normaly worked. I'm using th CM7 latest build, RSD Lite 4.6 and the latest motorola drivers(MotoHelper_2.0.40_Driver_4.9.0.exe). I tried in two windows xp pcs and one vista pc. I have the same error. It get stuck on "Finding new hardware - MTP Device" I think it have something with portal&tools. Please what i have to do?

Thanks, but I have already read this tutorial. And my problem is not only windows 7 64 bits. Is with windows xp 32 bits too. I tried every way, but nothing works. I hope someone can help me to solve this. Today i cant test with linux, but tomorrow I'll test. At least I can change between the mods, like cm7 and shadowmod cause i dont have to flash nothing to do this, is only apply a uptade.zip
Ok. Now I'm really lost! I tried with a live cd from ubuntu. But i got this error:
Waiting for phone: Segmentation fault (core dumped).
I think the problem is with my phone. Maybe there is a problem with my bootloader, i dont know! When I turn on my phone with the power+X appears only the exclamation inside a triangle and one picture of a phone. After i do vol up+ camera button appears:
Andoird system recovery <2e>
Use d-pad to highlight; center to select.
reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/command
This last line is a problem? Or use a live cd was my problem? A nandroid backup can save me? I tried, but maybe all of my backups are with this problem. Can someone, please, upload a Nandroid backup from CM7, preferably with only the stock things. Please help me, with you do no how to help, if you know someone who can help, i beg you to tell him my problem. I thank everyone who helped so far.
And please pardon me for my horrible english!

If you are able to boot into AOR then you already have a VR installed.
Oh wait. You want to go BACK to Froyo? What bootloader version do you have?

That's the question! I don't know how to check that!
Boot into Bootloader mode and the first line should tell you what version your bootloader is.
Maybe there is a problem with my bootloader, i dont know! When I turn on my phone with the power+X appears only the exclamation inside a triangle and one picture of a phone. AND THERE IS NOTHING!!!
Please confirm me, Bootloader screen is when you press power + X button right? And recovery screen is when you press vol up + camera right?

There's your problem! To get into bootloader you need to hold the power button and d-pad up!
When you hold power+x, you are going into recovery mode, the vol-up+camera button is only to display the menu.
Use this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11902513&postcount=7
And you can get the sbf from here: http://and-developers.com/sbf:milestone221
I believe the service version wipes all data.

That's probably because you need bootloader mode only for flashing sbf's. All custom roms only need recovery mode. It must have a while since you flashed a stock sbf. Anyway, just to point out that if you are planning on flashing a custom rom after flashing the stock sbf, you will need to flash the vulnerable recovery before you can get into recovery mode.
Good luck.

First, flash any froyo (2.2) rom.
Then, take out the battery, then connect to the wall charger (not the PC) without the battery. Put the battery back in if you get the android logo.
I use this method to boot my Milestone when its being problomatic. At the moment, its the only way mine will boot. With mine, I'll get the m logo, then it will panic and reboot. It does this for 5 to 10 minutes, then boots up. Once its booted, everything works fine.
This method 'appears' to bypass some of the checks for normal booting. If I try to boot normally, it will bootloop for hours or until the battery runs out.
You need to flash froyo because when there is a problem, 2.2 kernal panics and tries rebooting. In eclair (2.1) when theres a problem, it just locks at the m logo, so this method wont work.
Also, I dont think flashing with sbf_flash will make a diference, since your not getting any bootloader error messages, the flash is apparently good, something else is causing your problem.
Just to check, you are flashing non-service roms, aren't you? Also try taking out your sim card and sd card, just to make sure they aren't causing problems.

Make that process again with RDS Lite. Keep the same procedure with your correct .sbf files. When RDS appears like into your screenshot, just pull out the phone from USB cable, pull out the battery, turn on the phone in bootloader mode and reconnect the USB cable after the phone it is in bootloader mode. Do not close RDS Lite when you will disconnect the phone from PC. Let him like he is, with the process in pending. After you will reconnect the phone in bootloade mode, RDS should continue the flashing..hope you will succed

the phone need Factory reset after flash the Froyo.
you'd better format the SD card and put the Openrecovery file on your SD card.
anyway, if you can enter the bootloader, your phone is ok.

At the first view i think that is what you need to flash
http://www.multiupload.com/7UK3NUJTQ1
But i will be sure if you tell me exactly what you phone model is. I see into the RDS log 4G OMAP. It is Droid X?
thats what happend to me this morning. my colleague gave me his unrooted 2.1-u1 milestone and wanted me to install latest cm, so I flashed GOT through rsdlite, rebooted and everything went find. installed OR, copied all reqiered update zip files und apllied them in OR - then wiped the phone fully and got stuck on M logo ...
reflashed GOT and it worked again so I just applied the CM update zip and rebooted after fullwipe just to see if the phone will start and it did. maybe a few more reboots (after every step) aren't that bad
-edit
I found out that M-logo reboots have startet, after i applied overclocking in OR.

Hi everyone
Please excuse my bad english, it's not my native language, but i'm in desperate need of help.
This seems to be my first post here, but i lurked this and other forums for a long time but still can't find a solution to my problem.
So here it is:
I have MOTO QRTY A853 - South Korean version of Milestone. A few days ago I was reckless enough to flash cyanogenmod 7 update dedicated to Droid. Yes, my bad... What I got is bootloader on startup with some error and no possibility to go into recovery.
I flashed SHOLS_U2_05.27.2_SIGNED....sbf via RSD Lite and thus got normal bootloader and ability to go into recovery. But Android never boot normal since then - Motorola logo is as far as it goes then reboots and it goes on over and over.
I tried different roms but result is always the same - looped reboot on Motorola logo.
I also tried to flash cyanogenmod 6.1.2 and couple of times booting reached animated cyanogenmod logo and one time even android home screen but then reboot again...
I can flash any rom via RSD Lite, via nandroid or via update in Open Recovery. And every rom flashes without any error. I always do all needed wipes before and after flashing. I tried ejecting microSD and SIM-card, overclock and undervolt, my battery is always charged. And all I have is looped reboot.

[Q] Is this bricked for good?

This should be quick.
So I was using the Captivate AIO, but I flashed some drivers from the "Flashing ROMs on the Captivate" thread instead of the AIO. This is on Windows XP 32-bit.
Before I flashed the stock ROM the phone was already having a voice telling me things that I couldn't understand when I tried starting normally. I think data partition was corrupt or something.
I thought something was wrong because I had to use Vol - to get into download mode, so I flashed 3 button fix version. First time failed for some reason, so I unplug and restart again. Second time fails at SetupConnection, so I try the third time, which seems to work. Download goes through, Success! is shown in the box where there was the indicator of what was being flashed. The phone seems to shut down or restart once finished.
Now, for some reason the phone now refuses to start up or anything. Putting in the battery and trying the power button gives me nothing. Holding Vol+ and Vol- with USB plugged in and then putting in battery is nothing. No bootloop, no indication of anything, just black screen.
Is this permabricked?
Yes, you are hard bricked. You had the I9000 gingerbread bootloaders, hence the different button combos, you flash the 3 button fix which is just a froyo sbl.bin (secondary bootloader) but you still have a gingerbread boot.bin(primitive bootloader) so the pbl can't transition into the sbl because they are incompatible.
You can get jtag from mobiletechvideos.com for $50
Or find a user named adam outler I believe he offers jtagging for $30 (here is his user profile just shoot him a pm: http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=3682533 )
Or you could try your hands st a warranty replacement....but that would require a little loose morals and a story (lie) about what happened.
I'll take the JTAG as a 50 dollar lesson learned.
Do you know where these guys are located (physically)? I see there's a paypal but I don't see any way to really send it out to them.
You could always use adam outlers help....!
He has unbricked many captivates and is really good,my suggestion would be just pm him once before you decide doing anything....!

Josh from mobile tech lives in texas. Austin I believe.
Adam outler lives in louisiana.
Already ordered the JTAG service from their website, the Captivate is definitely a far cry from what's a relatively easy flashing process for the Desire HD.
Just to be sure, the process goes by Odin3 1 click flashback to stock, then root, then custom ROM, then..?

no.
flashing back to stock is not required to flash a rom
rooting is not required to flash a rom
if you are on stock 2.2 with 3e recovery, then just odin a custom kernel that has CWM built in, flash your rom
if you are on 2.1 with 2e recovery, just drop the update.zip that rom manager makes onto your sdcard, reboot to recovery, reinstall packages twice, then you will be in CWM. flash your rom

Gah, the guides on the dev section all seem to really stress the need to go back to stock before flashing.
Is it possible/okay to just do a full wipe in CWR, then flash the ROM in recovery if it allows for it, or is this more nuanced than I think it is?
Most roms actually have a wipe script in then so all you really need is to just flash it...but if you want to make extra sure its a clean flash then yes full wipe in recovery then flash.
Unless it is a gingerbread rom and you have eclair/froyo bootloaders. Then you would need to flash those with odin/heimdall and then the rom in recovery. But if you already have ginger boots then the above still applies.

Flashing back to stock is optional,you should be able to flash any rom via the cwm,follow these steps:
In the cwm menu
1.wipe data
2.wipe cache
3.go to advanced cwm features and wipe dalvik cache
4.then install zip from sd card
5.choose zip from sd card
6.install it and reboot....!
will work for all android versions,but make sure you dont mess up the bootloaders

Lol I do that all the time.
us in team phoenix call that ninja-ing.
Well, at least now I know what to do next time when it comes back.
Better yet what NOT to do.
Do not flash the 3 button fix if you have gingerbread bootloaders.
Anymore "DON'T DO THIS EVER" words of wisdom?

I charge $30 per unit. I use a different method. I apply a header to the device which is plug-n-play from then on. It's a piece which Samsung left off the board to save $1.75 per unit. http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Panasonic/AXT612124/?qs=2rFUEsTwVNwSdqVM5XnLHw==

Tutorial: how to unbrick your phone

Bricked my phone after trying out CM7 and then flashing Stock ROM via KDZ_FW_UPD without wiping all data.
Found a way how to fix my problem. This should work for almost all bricked phones.
Remember, this will wipe ALL DATA from your phone. I'm not responsible if something happens with your P970. Do at your own risk.
You will need:
Drivers for P970;
KDZ_FW_UPD_EN
UpTestEX_mod2_marwin
WindowsEnablerv1.1
Download
Start from here if it's first time (no drivers installed, etc):
1) Install all drivers (from Drivers folder);
2) Disable LGE Virtual Modem (Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager);

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Start from here if drivers already installed:
3) Run msxml.msi (in KDZ_FW_UPD folder);
4) Delete mfc42.dll (from KDZ_FW_UPD folder);
5) Run WindowsEnabler.exe and set it to ON;
6) Run UpTestEX_mod2_marwin.exe;
7) Set your phone to S/W Upgrade mode (take out battery, while pressing Volume Up, plug USB cable).
1) Select KDZ file (download from here);
2) Click "CSE web upgrade test", then "Upgrade Start".
Chose your language and wait till phone reboots. It will take some time and could look like nothing is going on. If you see something similar to this (on your phone) for a moment, everything went OK.
maaaaaaaaaaaaan em trying it right now.....let u know as soon as i see some results
THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"YES" it really works!!!
Thanks a billion times man! You saved my life
(for everyone else who is trying to follow this TUT...when i was updating it was stuck at 4% and showed a lot of errors in the log below...but i guess that didnt matter and now it works...that screen at the end is really must...and i had to force close the update tool after my phone was working)
I think this is solution for ALL BRICKED P970s that can enter into S/W Upgrade mode!!!
Very important is that this method do HARD RESET after flashing firmware so it could UNBRICK ALL of our phones.
Can anyone with bricked phone (not CM7 brick) can test it?
I a little bit edited tutorial and, yeah, it could help for all bricked phones. We just need someone who could test it out.
I linked it at RC's G+ and RootzWiki, in response to those bricking their OB's in regards with CM7. Hope they could give us feedbacks.

cool, finally a method that can do "hard reset" without a running system or a recovery installed !!
LG would have implement the hard reset in his Recovery in the B2CAppSetup ! it would avoid lots of send back to LG customer service !!
Thanks

No, LG would have implement the recovery key combination... It would be remedy for almost all P970 bricks...
Does anybody knows another phone with Android without hardware key combination for recovery?
Is it even possible that hardware key combination (changing bootloader) will be possible to add-on by official LG firmware update? Maybe they should do this with official 2.3 upgrade, but it is probably only dream...
PS. I forgot to thanx, ziiljuks, you're the man!
yes, recovery combination key would be better ^^
ps: I think x8 doesn't have it either
quote from rootzwiki: "adb.exe reboot recovery saved my life!!!!"
i guess we can boot into recovery with this command. i didn't know that adb environment can run with bootloop or volume up screen... can anybody confirm this?

No, it can't. You need to boot to OS and have enabled Debugging to get ADB working.
I was trying it many times when I bricked my phone. Look HERE.
It seems very good work! But i just bought my phone, i have not fllash my rom yet, since i am afraid that flashing will damage my warranty forever. Could shut body tell
Me whether there is ANY means to recover the warranty........

yes, by reflasing stock rom !
CSE means CS_EMERGENCY
I think this does the same if you select the CS_EMERGENCY mode on KDZU.

Nope. Tried that when I bricked my phone couple of weeks ago.
EDIT:
Tested it 5 mins. ago with CS_EMERGENCY in KDZU, and no. No hard resetting.
hmm I should test this tool again. I previously gave up that because it has never worked, until I know those kdz files must keep their name
i dont get the "CSE web upgrade test" button in the UpTestEX_mod2_marwin window.
any ideas?
tried normal upgrade but dosnt make the factory reset and keep geting boot loop.
yes another victim of CM/ > Stock
ok found it. in the type has to be in CDMA not 3GQCT
Hello,man.
There's some problems in using this method.
A guy does the upgrade,and the phone is stuck at 4% too. But unlike the situation u've met, there's not even a error in the log. Then , he has to switch off the USB(means disconnect the phone and the PC. sorry, my English is... - -#). I wanna know how much time does the upgrading process takes. Thanks.
Meanwhile ,there's another guy. He did the same thing .And the phone reboots finally. But what confuses me is that he didn't get the picture on the screen. Could you explain , thanks in my heart!
And thanks ziiljuks very much!
maybe a corrupted kdz file, try to re-download another.

Download THIS package. It has all the files in one folder. Unpack it to C:\ You should get C:\P970_unbrick\*files here*
Install msxml.msi, then run Windows Enabler.exe and click on its icon in the taskbar. Icon will change and will show "ON". Then run UpTestEX_mod2_marwin.exe and do the rest of the job.

When i followed this tut my update process was stuck at 4% and actually it "didn't" flash the stock rom...(although it was already flash before my the KDZU tool) this tool simply after giving alot of errors in the log file did a hard reset (that last screen---which actually does the magic by formatting the data partition). After that screen my phone restarted and BINGO i was at the setup wizard! then i closed the tool bcz it was stuck but my phone was working

Need help stuck in 2e recovery

I got my phone rooted and then i proceeded to install rom manger to install CWM recovery. After that i rebooted the phone and ended up taking me to the original 2e recovery. Now I am basically stuck here, even after taking the battery out. I searched for a day and cant seem to find a solution.
Can anyone help please?
If you do a battery pull, there's really no way it will boot back into recovery—I'm sure it always boots into the OS by default.
Uhm, yeah.. I really don't know what to tell you.
Maybe leave the battery out for a bit?
haha i've tried that. its been a day. when i pull the battery it boots right back to 2e recovery. and it basically shows "reboot system now" "apply sd card.update.zip" "wipe data" blah blah blah it will let me highlight them but not select them because i dont have a okay key.
So i've been searching and i'm basically trying to flash back to stock firmware via odin. Will reply with an update and see what happens.
good news i got it to work. =D can close this thread.
Glad to hear it!
For future reference, selecting the option should be the home button or the power button (I can never remember all these things ).
ok sorry to reply again but basically i'm stuck again..when i go into recovery mode.. i cannot select an option.. home or power button doesnt seem to work. and basically to get out of recovery i would have to pull the battery.
To fix this .. would i need to do the 3 button fix? if so i've been looking for one and cant seem to find the right one because the ones i tried seem to don't work
do you think you can help a solution? thanks

No need to apologize, we're here to help.
The volume buttons should control scrolling up or down, and home/power (can't remember, it seems to be different with various recoveries) should be to select the option.
So you don't have access to the 3-button recovery/download mode? I would suggest getting that working, and then flashing a better firmware with Odin. But do not start flashing stuff until you have download mode working, otherwise you risk bricking your phone. If download mode works, you can fix most issues you'll come across by simply flashing a stable firmware (or re-flashing the same firmware, if you caused it to malfunction, bootloop, etc).
Are you running stock firmware right now?
If you can't do anything flash a rom via odin and install cf-root kernel. This is a stock kernel with Superuser and CWM3 in this kernel. Make sure you can enter download mode with 3-button combo. Voldown+home+power.
If you don't have 3-button combo. It may disabled in your kernel. You can flash a kernel via odin what enables 3button combo but at your own risk. It may brick your phone. You can easily get download mode without 3 button combo with an Micro USB jig. This is a little stuff with a 301KOhms ressistor what shorts pin 4 and 5. You can make at home very easy or buy one from ebay.
thanks for the replies!! and sorry for my late reply.
so heres my deal. i can get into download mode and i flashed cf-root kernel via odin. so like you said its a stock kernel with superuser and root. and i dont think it comes with cwm because when i go to recovery its 2e recovery and from there i cannot even use the ok key or it doesn't let me so i have to pull my battery.
So i proceed to download rom manager and flash cwm recovery from there, then when i try to go to recovery again, i'm stuck there. i cannot even boot up to my rom and whatever i do i'll end up in 2e recovery until i pull my battery.
it's an on going cycle of doing this over and over because i cannot use to ok key in recovery.
this sucks because i've rooted other phones like nexus one, g2x and g2 and the samsung galaxy seems the hardest ...

It shouldn't be hard, it should be be simple.
Since you flashed the kernel that has CWM, are you sure you don't hace CWM? You should. Something is obviously wrong here. Youtube some videos to confirm which recovery you have.
Put your device in download mode and use this:

didnt work.. it just boots me to recovery 3e and i cannot get out of it unless i pull the battery. i thought this would work and looked very promising.. i dont know what could the problem be.
edit #2
i had to flash back to stock via odin....
one question i have is that.. how come when i flash cwm recovery via rom manager, it doesn't have cwm? it just says at 2e or 3e recovery?
