XO Skins Google Nexus 7 Screen Protector installed with clean pics - Nexus 7 Accessories

I finally got a few minutes to take a pic and post a review. Pic'd below is the xo skins screen protector for the google nexus 7. This is after one day of drying. Initially I got a few tiny bubbles but those always go away. The skin has NO Orange Peel texture like other kinds and it is way stronger than dry skins that I have always had peel up, get dirt under them, and scratch the hell out of my screen. The install for this was super easy and the skin is forgiving. It may looked a little bubbly or fuzzy right after the install, but after a day or so, it should be crystal clear. I like steaming up the bathroom before starting the install so that there is no dust in the air. They also have carbon fiber for some phones and tablets but I haven't seen them for this yet so in the mean time, I will just use the screen.

Also this is the video on their home page where they destroy a few phones
Retailmenot also has some working coupons sprintxo didn't work for me on this one but retailmenotxo got me 15% off

It looks very nice. How about the feel of scrolling? Smooth or a little rigid?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2

They have a slight amount of grip right after the install but it goes away after a few days. I have it on my phone as well

looks clean
Wow that looks really nice. I bought a screen protector from the same company (XoSkin) but for my Samsung gs3, thanks for posting the pics and information

Thats a really good idea, will keep it in mind to help out others with.

It makes a big difference. I used to paint cars years ago and we would always hose down the booth before starting. Maybe it's overkill, but I am a perfectionist

Would be a reason alone why I would use you and recommend you to friends.
People really like their cars, and if they are willing to get it repainted, they really really like that car or don't have an option to get a new one and want to extend the life/look of what they got. That extra step you take makes it that much better.
I tend to do the same when installing my protectors, but I found a video of an old guy; where he just lifted the corners and sprayed solution, then sprayed the screen and slid the protector on the device.. Can't find that video now..
This install looks clean, I like the fact they actually have the circle cutouts for the camera and ambient light sensor. Xtremeguard took the ugly route and has a u cut only for the camera...
Thanks for sharing.

The carbon fiber is on their site.. right here. http://xoskins.com/carbon-fiber-skin-protectors The red looks pretty cool

got one...
Well i had to help my girlfriend get some protection for her tablet and will post on this thread since it is the same topic already.
She has the Google Nexus 7 and went with this screen protector from XOskins..
[/IMG]
Then we decided to get her a carbon fiber back piece
[/IMG]
This was really east to install considering I dont know what i am doing. But i steamed up the bathroom (using your advice) and used a card to get out the tiny air bubbles for the front screen.
I really like the carbon fiber for the back, i like the ways it feels textured and how the front doesn't leave finger prints. Plus it hasnt hurt the touch responsiveness either for the screen and was worried it would but doesn't.Dang now i think i might have to get a carbon fiber for my Gs3...lol

What color did you go with? Got any pics?

there ya go, for some reason it keeps deleting my pictures i am posting. I went with the black color

These videos should help you install if it's your first time.
Their channel has a lot of other videos too so if you are nervous watch a few. A blow drier helps installing carbon fiber, you can also look for a heat gun but be careful cus those get hot fast and you will shrink it too much. I want to do white carbon fiber, but I don't see it on their site. I sent an email a few minutes ago, I'll post on here what they say.

Just ordered blue carbon for my Nexus 7. If it goes well then il probably go for the screen protector

how is the quality of the screem after you applied it ?
i remeber from zagg that you can see the screen not so good , like you have dirt on the screen(only when the screen is on)
appriciate your reply

Crystal clear. I have tried those and a few other too and they look like an orange peel. Right when you install it may look cloudy, but after a day or so, it clears up a TUN.

Cool I see it now. That looks really good.

Anyone tried the neon lime green carbon fiber? I am a green lover and it looks awesome!

Nice! It's like Android pride! haha

useful video thanks!

Their channel has a lot of them. Great, if it's your first install

Hi. Looks like a good screen protector, but is that really usefull?
I mean who will play with a drill, a sander or even a knife on his tablet??
Around me many people have bigger tablets or iPad; none of them use such a protection.
Why would a 7" need one when a 10 or 11" does not?
Again, clearly a good product, but I doubt I need it. :fingers-crossed:

the project took 3 days. im pretty happy how it came out although im still waiting for the paint to fully dry.
i sanded the phone down
painted using krylon fusion white satin
dried 24hrs
clearcoat paint
dried another 24 hrs
i used a xacto knife to mask the parts i was not going to paint
i was going to leave the buttons unpainted. its pretty easy just get a pieace of painters tape and stick it on then cut along the grooves. i had done this before when i first had painted the phone black but that did not work out. IF you dont sand your phone it will peel off. next week when the paint has dried fully im going to use the knife to cut out the excess paint along the small areas.
tips
make sure you cover the screen before you begin sanding.
you should probably not do too many coats unless you sand the phone down a lot, one coat for paint and clearcoat is enough, you dont want the phone looking bloated.you should probably tape off the buttons because when you press them the corners wont chip. use a knife to cut into the grooves.just stick a piece of tape on the speaker whole and stuff it.i will be cutting out the bluetooth light and the charge light in as soon as it dries although they shine through just fine. i also had sanded down that rubber piece on the back because it kept getting lost. for best results make sure you let phone dry alot 4 days later and the paint can still ding easily but it does not chip which is good. ill keep you guys updated.
[moved to wizard upgrading forum. nice work ,regards ,faria]
my cat took my rubber piece on the back...... darn cat
nnnnniiiiiiccccccceeeeeeeeee . Much better than this one, but I salute to his creativity and courage. Although he seems to be selling off his phone (in whole or parts).
can we have a close up look at your buttons? and how does the keyboard looks like,
looks sweet mate...
what is the today theme you used in the bottom right pic of the first post?
the vista looking one... is that a wisbar jobby?
yep
wisbar and wisbar desktop theme really nice but a lil too much on my not so fast 8125.its called VistaBetaTWO.
One of the coolest paintjobs yet As soon as I get a new device I'll start trying these things out myself
Great Job!
Wow... is it me? What paint job are youse people talking about?
I was merely referring to all the different variations of the wizard... The two mentioned in this thread is as far as I know the only two paintjobs that are "homemade"
It would be great to see a close-up of the paint quality on your Wizard100... I wasn't too big of a fan of the other guy's Wizard200's paint quality.
niceeee... but im not dat daring enough to cover the buttons.. here is the pic of mine.. i did black before but didnt look dat great hence white.. hope you like it.. takes ages to do it but its worth it..
would fit to an iPod, wouldnt it?
This is really sick lookin'
Props.
wow, looks sweet...
i would have kept the directional pad and the such silver though...

Interesting mod.. or rather decoration
While browsing through eBay (yeah, I have no life), I saw this 'mod' on a Wizard. I'm not particularly fond of the way the front was decorated, but the back was impressive. It is up for sale at eBay. Wonder if she (I presume) is a member here.
I am looking for black case

Everyone Seems to be saying that they did theirs in Black then white.
Honestly i don't think i'll ever change mine now, i LOVE it in black.
I used Krylon Fusion Black, and Their Clear Coat.
Black Wizard

I used Krylon Fusion Black, and Their Clear Coat.
The process;
Tap everything that you don't want painted, if you're not disassembling.
Sand sand sand sand.
You have to sand, a lot and it's very meticulous.
I used a rough grain, to give it a rough texture, and used satin paint to help
Painted that black, let it cook in the FL sun for 3 hours.
Then did 5 coats of the clear coat, It caused the black to turn alittle grayish but it's not bad.
Nicely done! I like it a lot.

Black Wizard (case mod)

Well I plucked up the courage to paint my Wizard black.

I'm 95% happy with it, although the paint has a couple of chips where I put it back together when it wasn't 100% hard and/or had not adhered to the surface. I didn't sand it down first, which may turn out to be a mistake. If the paint starts to chip I will sand it down and re-apply it. I used Plasti-kote Satin Black (2 coats) then Clear Acrylic (2 coats), which is supposed to dry in 30-40 minutes.
All in all the paint worked pretty well - it came out pretty smooth, and the paint remained reasonably thin.
Nice work.
I can see that you had very sterile painting conditions. I once painted my amiga500 outside and it got all dusty.
I've never understood someone wanting to do something like this, but wow, after seeing how yours turned out, that is Really nice! I really like how it looks (but not sure I'm ready to pull mine apart to do that)
Great job!
I have to say that look really nice...I want to do something like that...
Damn dog. That's pretty sic. I like it. Impressive!
Looks damn good! I don't think I have the cajones to do something like this though. Great job.
Thanks for the positive feedback guys.
I understand (and promote!) being reticent about taking your beloved Wizard apart. I've damaged it in a few ways because of it. Thank god I got the Wizard reasonably cheaply so it's not so painful. (I might put together a horror stories post. )
I can provide a day #2 upload that the paint is holding up in an ok fashion. There's may be 5-6 tiny specks where the paint has come off, so I'm likely to hold out and see how it holds out over the next week.
: \
sorry bro but I am not a fan of the look of the qtek/mda/xda models...but this makes them look a lot better and not as feminie, cheers
Nice black wizard. We have a white and a black The back panel's paint job is better than I've expected, with all the grooves, which may cause problems if thick layer of paint are applied.
BTW, I think you ought to have your stylus's "butt" painted as well
Very nice!
I've been wanting to fins a spare 8125 case to try and paint black. In case I mess it up, it would be just a spare so I wouldn't have to use it, haha
Looks good though!

You can find a service manual on the net for it. Search for 'prodigy service manual'. You will need a couple of tiny screwdrivers:

If you do I'd be interested to hear your experience with it. I asked my father about it (retired auto/car painter) and he suggested using scotch bright for the sanding. I've yet to try it though..
is there anywhere where i could find a through tutorial on how to do this?? it looks awesome!
Looks very nice
I have an extra and am thinking about painting it. I used to build model cars when I was younger, and we would always use a very fine sandpaper. I don't remember the grit on it. It was a silicon carbide or aluminum oxide. Those papers both work great for plastic. I may give it a shot. If I do I will post the pics.
Peace,
Hmmm Waiting for the tuto!
Can someone make one?
How is the paint job holding up? I'd like to do this to mine, but I'm waiting to see if I need to sand it down first.
That's gorgeous. Very inspiring. I might have to hit up some painter friends of mine.
Hey its gorgeous but can you write a guide how to do that. THNX.

Screen Protectors: The Definitive Guide with Pics

Moderator Request: Please Sticky this.
Public Request: Please only post replies with pictures of screen protectors that you have applied to the droid incredible.
Please refrain from posting unless you are putting up images of the screen protected phone.
There is a lot of discussion about screen protectors and threads all over the place. Many of us are confused which screen protector is the best and many have ended up buying what we don't want, like me for instance. I hope to consolidate pictures here so that we can all know what protectors will look like and help others.
This Review: Phantom Skinz Matte Finish
I got the Phantom Skinz "matte finish" and here is a mini review with pictures.
Application: A little tricky with the whole dipping in water and applying.
Adhesive: Top notch, as if its part of the phone.
Clarity: Very poor, speckles the screen a lot.
Cost: $15ish for the full body from amazon.
Anti Glare: Pretty good, almost no reflection.
Here are the images:

As you can see, it makes the screen pretty grainy, but sticks fantastically and does not bother the VZW silicone case.
This thread needs pics that are in focus to be worth looking at let alone calling a "guide". Obviously it's hard to photograph the phone/shield but it should at least be in focus.

Actually all the shots with the screen turned on are in focus, just couldnt get it right with the screen off. not to mention my point and shoot is less powerful than my DI.
the other shots, the blurriness that you are seeing is from the phantom skinz protector, so those are very accurate, that is how you see the screen.

Steinheil Crystal Clears are da bomb! No comparison with the others...ease of application, feel, clarity. Will have to wait and see about durability after a while, but I am impressed!

HD2 backcover --> polished

Hey folks...
I own my HD2 for about 1 year now. Unfortunately (or not), I bought only a few months ago a silicone case and this is why my backcover was really damaged.
Deep scratches, the clear lacquer sayd goodbye at some spots and so on. I think u know
So i decided to do something against it
On the pictures below you can see the result...

You need..
~ 3 different kinds of abrasive paper with something about 280, 350, 400 granulation.
polishing paste
toothpaste (xtra white) xD
and an old t-shirt or something like that.. (for polishing)
____________________________________________________________
Take the roughest abrasive paper first and remove the paint.
This could be little tricky cause the backcover has this "brushed" look, so you have to remove all this little "brushed look" lines.
After the paint is gone take the next paper (take little water and wet it) and grind it always in the same direction. (no circle moves, this would ruin it)
Now take the finest paper and again take a little water to make it extra fine and grind it too.
Now the backcover should be free of any painting and the surface should be smooth...
To make it high shiny take the polishing paste and a part of ure old shirt or whatever and start polishing xD
This can take a little while cause the backcover is made of "stainless steel"
Finnish it with some toothpaste the same way you did with the polishing paste.
After cleaning it unter hot water with a little liquid soap dry it and look at your wonderfull shiny backcover
greets
Ray
I think its made of aluminium not stainless steel, but otherwise its awesome looking! i remember someone else doing that on here too

The problem is, an original HTC backcover costs about 25$ (20€)... to much to have lets say 5 or 10 in stock And i dont want to buy this stuff from "hong kong" its about 12$ but you dont know what you get ..
off topic: check this out guys, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905670 best looking hd2...
I polished mine to a mirrored finish and it shows every hand print and it scratches very easily, but it hasn't tarnished in the 4-5 months since I polished it.
I polished it by first using a belt sander with medium grit (220) and sanding against the grain of the textured lines on the back. Then I used a buffing wheel with some emery buffing compound to get rid of the sanding marks. After that I switched to a yellow buffing compound gave it a final polish.
I thought the polished back was too smooth so I decided to give it a little texture by using a plastic stencil, some spray adhesive, masking tape, and a $10 flea market sandblaster with about 80psi with silica sand.

I like that idea, but I tried some different paints prior to the sandblasting and nothing seem to hold very well. I don't know what the metal is but I tried bluing it and it didn't change a bit. I even tried a translucent paint dip that I thought I could clear coat but it was flaking off just from handling it before I could even start clear coating.
If I were going to try it again I think I would try an aluminum paint primer then paint it before sandblasting the stencil.
That toothpaste idea worked great for taking out the fine scratches that were on it.

So i've got some black and some red carbon fiber if anyone is interested.
I'm definitely in if the price is right
ooohhh drool. I am interested too:fingers-crossed:
The carbon fiber works great!
And fits under a spigen ultra hybrid too! It just takes some jimmying to keep the side pieces from being pushed off buy the case...
Here's a link to an album with more shots and angles if you're curious.
How much do you think is fair for a custom wrap?
Please let me know if there's interest for these, and I'll go through the work of setting up an Etsy or Ebay listing.
15 would be fair. As long as they last a while and have a standard warranty

Can you do one in this material?
Red Chrome
Don't see any reason against it...
You ship to germany?

I could probably ship to Germany, I'm not sure how much more it would cost, but I wouldn't be opposed...
is that bomb cut out of the wrap? as in its a separate piece? if so whats the chance of getting a black carbon wrap with the bomb cut out of red carbon....

It is cut out, but out of the same piece, and the whole back is removed at once from the paper backing, with masking tape keeping the designs lined up.
...that doesn't seem impossible, but it will take some extra detail work to get it aligned properly, and more materials.
that could be interesting. i will definitely keep it in mind. I have a plain black carbon from another company right now and am getting bored with it. I might hit you up in a week or two.

Cool man. If I get around to it, I might do a test run, and I'll post pictures if I do!
Anonymous mask?
I was thinking this cut-out would look cool. Not sure on what sort of texture it would look best though!?
I just googled around, can't post links annoyingly, but if you go to qvectors DOT net SLASH vendeta-mask-vector there is a vector example.
I am thinking of trying to get some splash screens, boot animations and backgrounds too, would go well on a completely stripped down ROM with XPrivacy and AFWall+ installed.
That would look cool. Unless you have a clear back case, I'd probably do it negative. The white parts would be in red, with a thin border around it for the outline. That way there wouldn't be lots of small pieces to get lifted off by routine handling..
Can you like make just like faces symbol? Like just iron man face or transformers face only.? It's cuz I like the silver/metallic.

Good point, awesome idea. I'm going to try and put the phone in the clear baseus skin that people are talking about - seems to be the thinnest out there.
What about a black carbon one, I think that would look sweet, although I am by no means any sort of designer.
