Why no one develops rom for focus s - Samsung Focus S

I see lots of rom Dev on Samsung focus but it's nothing here.
Is it too difficult to make one for this focus s or am I missing something

There's no unlocked bootloader for the Focus S, that's why.
Although a stock ROM would be great, but that hasn't been leaked anywhere.

my phones still not arrived but it is crazy how Samsung could let at&t mess up such a device by giving them exclusive rights.
even if some devs could at least help or point us in the right direction it would be helpful... such a shame

[Q] Nexus One or Bell Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant? I have both, need to sell one.

I just won a free Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant with Bell Mobility, but which one should I keep? I love my Nexus One, and it seems that there is a lot more development for the N1 right now. I am a rom flashing junkie, love to tinker with my phone, and make update.zip files for fun...
That being said, clearly the N1 is better.. but only for right now. Does anyone have any insight on when the Galaxy will get as much attention? It is on 5-6 networks already after all..
Thanks!
Either way, lets get a rom dump and see what we can play with

Galaxy S probably has the better hardware.
N1 will continue to get android releases from google first ... once the Galaxy S is out on all networks and widely sold, I would expect custom rom development to explode for it (and be the same if not better than for the n1)
=> I would keep the galaxy (based on better hardware alone)
i would keep both. you have the best of both world. N1 which is will have the most updated android and SGS which has best hardware at this moment. but with some issues on software. but that will be all figured out. play with both and then make your decision.
BTW, hating on you so much. lucky SOB.
Whatever you do, don't get rid of the N1. Either keep both and hope the Galaxy issues get resolved (GPS AND Compass) or sell the Galaxy. The Galaxy has much faster graphics performance and built in HDMI out via USB but, unfortunately, the GPS and Compass issue make it a no go for a day to day user. The thing about the Nexus is that it will continue to get updates first and, likely, there will be much more development on it. Likely, this will result in much better tuned software and possibly even open up even more functionality. With the core hardware issues of the Samsung, you are at the mercy of Samsung and their track record is not so good. I actually bought a Vibrant (Galaxy S) and returned it.
Hey! I'm a new Nexus One user. I've been using the Galaxy S for a long time and in the end chose the N1 over it. Yes, the hardware on the GS is better than the N1, but really, for me it all came down to keeping the phone that made me feel heavenly -- the N1!
You will be better off in the long run with the Nexus One...
I sold my n1 for the sgs and I'm not looking back.. true Multitouch, memory ,gpu and super amoled was enough for me. N1 was great, but the sgs is better IMO... development is starting pretty well. Especially soon....

[Q] Glance for ATIV S?

Has anyone attempted to port glance to the Samsung ATIV S?
I was wondering this myself although I would imagine there are firmware issues that would make the whole thing a bit of an ordeal.
The problem is that for now there isn't a deep knowledge of windows phone 8..somethig is slowly moving now, but it's a recent thing, and we have lack of developers (where is the Dark Forces Team?). The few ones who are working on WP8 are really really good, they are doing their best and some results are coming out. But till now I think there isn't enough knowledge to answer your question. If it's something specificly hardware-related probably no..
This should be possible when real custom roms are available.
As the bootloader of the Ativ S isn´t hacked so far there isn´t any chance to do that...

I think when (or if) the Verizon version gets root and an unlocked bootloader, I'm pretty confident development would pick up quickly. But until then, I think it's sadly going to be a big ZZZZZ for us.
I have T Mobile and before this I had the G4, so root being accomplished so quickly on the V10 was a great thing and there is TWRP so development is ready. I'm hoping there's are some motivated Devs ready to take this to the next level with the secondary screen applications are endless and the possibilities of clever and innovative ways to use it really excite me, I hope there are others as pumped as well. I really see a lot of potential in this device.
I think this remains to be seen. But given the way AT&T has blocked a lot of dev work (Came from a Note 3), I can only pray there is less of a roadblock on this handset
For the T-mobile it seems like Development is picking up (read the CM12.1 thread! Exciting!)
LG V10
I know it has been more than a week since the phone is out and i already see bootloader unlocked with root capability for t-mobile variants(which is what i have) so i foresee a lot of possibility out there for other developers to jump in. Hopefully we will get to choose between other ROMs as we currently have blackhole ROM only being actively worked on.

Is there a video that shows how to root the T-Mobile version
LG usually has pretty bad development support compared to say Samsung, htc. It's one of the reasons why i haven't bought it yet.
I absolutely hate lg ui far too cartoonish and sluggish but if it had cm12.1 or stock android it would be one of my favourite for sure.
IMHO YMMV LG hardly needs development. Most people that I know with LG devices really enjoy rooted debloated stock. Its not like other devices Ive had that you just need something baked into the rom. At most I notice customising via xposed. And even those with locked bootloaders and no root find a way to debloat and customise their phones. Gone really are the days of needing to wait for a dev to cook or bake in something and end user cant just do themselves. At least for me its been my experience with the latest Tmobile LG devices. As long as the os and ui are snappy..
I personally can't wait till we get cm12 or 13 it will make this phone fly... I mean a guy made cm 12.1 happen on my gear s so I don't see why it would not happen on v10
BeameD From My LG V10... The one with the ALWAYS ON SCREEN... Watching me.. ?
So there is no bootloader Unlock for the normal International Version of the LG v10?
A little weak at the time ...
I blame LG for letting Verizon lock up the bootloader like Fort Knox ... didn't anyone with marketing knowledge realize that it's the Hackers happiness with a phone that helps promote how friendly it is, promotes Apps for the phone and ends up selling more base phones that never get modded or rooted.
I hope this all changes soon - as much as I like this phone, it can only get better with more attention by those who can tweak, mod and root them.
Development is weak for this device. We need more support. I think the 808 shouldn't be too hard to develop for, but I'm not a Chef

Definitely lacking. But the experience of the phone is solid so it lessens the need. However the marshmallow wait is too long (not devs fault of course). that coupled with the unparalleled dev on Nexus's has me contemplating a 6p ..

Well, seeing as though there is NO comments, I will be the first to say that I am hoping that we get root as quick as possible! Judging by the great people we have working on this phone, I have ZERO doubts!
M only concern is carrier specific development. T-Mo is doing well, as well as any HK based v20; however, AT&T/Verizon/Sprint models are yet to get as much attention.

what this guy said^^^^
I'm on Verizon...I do see that bootloader unlock was achieved with the pixel on Verizon... so I'm sure it's possible with this device, on Verizon, I just don't know if the verizon variant will get the needed support from the development community. I wish I had a clue...
Seems like real development is about to start for Tmobile! @Chainfire confirmed that the LG V20 has been rooted. And i also have seen some users concerned with other variants even if it is not the variant they are using >> good solidarity. So , we all hope that each variant find the path to the root. The more the merrier!
I plan on picking up the VZW version in the next couple day. Hopefully more people will do the same.
What would the devs need from the VZW version to start work on the boot loader unlock / getting root?
Willing to try and help with that. I am fairly familiar with Linux and somewhat with adb, so just tell me what you need, how to pull it, and I will do my best to pitch in.
Dk if I will root mine specifically because I will use it for work also, and some of our software will not currently accept a rooted Android phone onto the network. Can't say what it is, other than it is in-house proprietary software.
Development is very weak on all carriers except T-Mobile.

for now development for Tmobile model is pretty decent. I just hope it wont die too early
We got root and future look bright. Other models not so lucky with development just because they are locked
I hope we can get development on the factory unlocked non carrier specific version as well!

I'm offering up my Verizon device for testing.
Maaaan i hope they manage to make Resurrection Remix and ACIP roms for the LG V20. Those 2 are my favorite roms on every device i have had. and if the 2nd screen is the problem, they can drop that behind (at least for a while, i wouldnt mind) lol. Of course, first someone need to start with CM14 for this device. (I have been looking all over the web, including github and there is not a single trace of CM14 for LG V20) on the other hand, at least we have root for the h918, ( i also hope other variants get root too). It is odd that no one have asked the question of: "Will there be CM14 for the LG V20?".... at least none existen threads, nor comments could be found while googling. but well. I guess i turned out to be the first, lol. Although i saw on CM website there is a subforum of the LG V20, however it is totally empty.
Compared to when I first bought this phone, the development has really picked up.
I'm on the Resurrection Remix ROM for Verizon and i'm loving it.

Once it get root and open bootloader life will be much easier
Same thing for 990.
Its almost there ?
Very quiet in this thread for the last 3 months.
I've had my V20 for a day and I'm loving it. I researched a lot beforehand and knew development was pretty much nonexistent but I hope there may be a root exploit in the future.
I have the H990ds Taiwan model.

Rom developers please listen!!

So this is a post for just making people realise some of the things going on in the Samsung Galaxy Tab A development forum (specifically the custom Rom development). So let's get right into the thing. I believe custom Rom should be focusing on bringing newness to old devices. Of course and some features are not available in New devices, and custom Rom and debloated roms help fill the gap ( we all know how heavily modded Samsung firmware is).
However recently there is a trend for DEVELOPERS to make custom roms for recently released devices ( SM-T580, SM-T280) . While the old 2015 models and others have no roms yet. I did hear that someone was making a unified Rom for some of these models months ago. I'm not saying that there shouldn't be any roms for new models . But there is an overcrowding in the market with custom roms for these devices and also with very little difference between these roms. Imagine this like there are a lot of products for one group of people and the rest get no products at all!
So this is my petition. Can just some of you show a bit love for these devices? If enough of you respond to this maybe there will be a positive change! That's all I want . I want everyone to pass this message around. Thanks for the help. And thank you Developers who make custom roms for any device because I know it's a hard job and you are doing this for free. :good:
Peace
P.S: This is my first post. I know I did some things wrong. So PLEASE don't be too critical about this.
Hint, Hint!! Devs make mods for devices they OWN. They aren't in it to support Samsung. They aren't in it to be charitable. They are in it because they enjoy doing what they do and want the "latest and greatest" for themselves. But they ARE NOT going to support old devices they no longer have.
edit: There is also the fact that "custom" ROMs, like RR, Extremely and Ultra, are all just modifications of the STOCK ROM from Samsung. So, if Samsung hasn't produced a new ROM for an older device, then there is nothing to modify. The exception to that are the ROMs based on the LineageOS. But, again, these are based on adaptions from other devices that use the same SoC. So, if the LineageOS devs haven't produced one for the SoCs in older devices, you won't see one for your older Tab A.
Then why do they provide support for their releases. I get the thing you said about how roms a modified. But I dont think they make it just for themselves. If that were the case the would not be any "community" and XDA IS a well-knit community. Developers like @ashyx and @JazzPresso provide and support people with their mods and stuff. So the "want the "latest and greatest" for themselves. But they ARE NOT going to support old devices they no longer have. " part I don't get.

How are they supposed to debug problems when they no longer have a device to use for testing? What's not to get?
But once you have device tree (more or less in stone) it's easy to just keep up to date. (To a degree) but only the latest popular devices get anything. Look at the smt280 ... Absolutely f***ING nothing past root for it. One decent time (decent being used loosely) while the exact same one other than modems are activated (t285) gets quite a bit of love. They are the exact same device! I'm fairly sure the 280 even has the modems! Just deactivated. We have to work with the devs more flexibility do they can do build and have GOOD feedback, timely reports and sure knowledge of how to log. (I stuck at it all) that's how but there are thread after thread of similar devices that none ever gives these devs the info. Dumps, etc that is needed to help us. We inquire on root or rom then they ask for stuff and we disappear. Never to be heard from again. Lots of these devs are so selfless in their endeavor with goose eggs for return

The last Samsung stock ROM for the 280 was 5.1. and there is no Linage version later than that to work from. But if you are so sure there is no difference between the 280 and 285, other than the modem, why don't you try flashing the 285 ROM on the 280? There is an Omni 6.0 ROM for the 285. I've successfully flashed 585 ROMs on a 580.
Anyway, complaining isn't going to change anything. No dev is going to put any effort into an outdated tablet.
If only someone could port treble then the tablet would be sorted. But I doubt that's ever going to happen.

Anytime I tried twrp error was just because of device name or something of that sort. Is there a way of kinda forcing the flash? I've never tried it through other way. Thanks for advice
