[SOLVED]Tether over wi-fi?

Today i forgot my usb data cable at home and found myself desperately looking for an internet connection with my laptop. Ive downloaded 'bernacle wifi tether' , tetherblu and '' wireless tether for root users''.
Neitherr worked for me. In all of those my laptop could see the network those apps produced but could not connect even at maximum signal strenght.
Did anyone ever succeed with wifi tether on the n1?
Edit:rooted with cm 5.0.6
ive used barnacle, its pretty nice
any messages on why it couldnt connect? your laptop support ad-hoc networks?
Sorry for my noobility ..i dont know what is an ad hoc network. I dont receive any errors, it tryes to connect until it times uot saying it couldnt connect or repair the connection of unlnown reasons. Im using vista x64 on an n80x5 assus notebook. Could it be that i need some additional drivers for the n1?
No, you don't need any drivers to connect to WiFi.
Tested WiFi teather for root when downloaded it, works perfectly.
Check your laptop settings, I'd guess that it has absolutely nothing to do with the phone.
Barnacle became my #1 wifi tether program. works evertime. it might be the way you have your laptop setup or something. WiFi teather for root works also.
If you have static ip on your laptop...then none of those will work. Set your laptop to obtain ip automatically...i bet it work then.
Problem solved !
it was indeed a problem with my network adapter's driver.
Works great now!
thank you!

Droid X connect to Ad-Hoc Wifi ? or need a custom kernel for that

so do we need a custom kernel for this or can this not be done ?
the place where I want to connect to Wifi is a ad hoc connection. I'm going off the fact that laptops can connect but droid x doesn't connect to this wifi. This is in a wifi enabled bus.
I connect to Adhoc at work. Takes a couple of tries but it works.
BTW the only encryption mode allowed is WEP

Ad-Hoc wireless network

I want connect to Ad-Hoc using my mobile wi-fi anybody can tell me how to do that??
GT540 can't connect to adhoc network.
You should install connectify, your pc will become an access point which gt540 can connect.
Well, it's not a problem with that the GT540 cannot connect to ad-hoc, it's that android does not support it at the moment. (http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=82)
It seems to be possible be changing/adding some lines of code in the kernel, but I do not know of a custom kernel for the gt540 which has this feature enabled. Still looking for it myself
Connectify will work only on Windows 7

Wifi hotspot.. limited connectivity

I have been facing the problem for the last week or so. I do-not get any internet connection through my phone's WiFi hotspot . The WiFi does connect to my windows 7 laptop , but then I don't get any internet connection ( windows says limited connectivity and I donot have this problem with USB tethering ). Does any body have any ideas on how to go about fixing this issue..?? Thanks
PS : I need WiFi hotspot ,as I often connect my lappy to it while charging and i do have other devices i need internet connection at times
I am currently on temasek's 129 kang and 725 BB/RIL
Anybody any hints or insights into.this one ???
Sent from my Optimus 2X using xda app
The other devices work? Try reconnecting with different security (open instead of wpa for example). Maybe your Laptop is not configured properly (fixed IP address, wrong network type, firewall, etc).
It is just guesswork on my end. There are too many variables unknown to give you better advice.
Last resort would be a full wipe of your o2x. But that is only a good idea if you have proven that other devices connected to your phone via wlan do not work as well and that your laptop is configured correctly.
Have a nice day!
Got resolved. Apparently I had used adhoc mode on my laptop to make my laptop a hotspot ..Even though I had deleted the adhoc connection , I had not turned off Internet connection sharing , this was causing this .. Blimey .. Hope windows had warned me about this instead of telling "limited conection "
well Dang
I just flashed cm10 Nightly, and cant use Wifi-hotspot,, First i thought it was RIL, but i learnd you dont mess with the RIL in CM10.. and it aint any problem with the computer, it can connect to other hotspots..
The built-in Hotspot thing is hanging in "starting hotspot" and from there i have to reboot to get it going again..and this one isnt even showing up on wireless networks on the Laptop,.. so.
I Downloaded a 3rd party , https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=android.tether
It seems very nice, and it goes saying in the log that it started up Okey, and the laptop can now se the "ad-hoc" wireless it created.. but when connecting and using the password, it aint doing nothing, no IP, no nothing.. and the app have a acces-control, where nothing is showing..
Any hints for me ? =)

Can't connect to 802.1x wifi

I'm using Cyanogenmod 10 with Prometheus Kernel V2 and while it works fine with my home wifi, it's never able to connect to my school wifi which uses 802.1x EAP encryption. Is there any fix for this?

I once experienced this. but my problem is my phone wont detect my home wifi so all I did is either change the name of the wifi(SSID) or change the wifi to 802.1g(G only) as I found that most phone have a problem to connect to 802.1n.
