HTC Desire C unlocking bootloader problem - HTC Desire C

Hey all...I can see myself getting into this Android scene pretty fast. My HTC Desire C is my first Android and it has been great, but I feel the need to mod it and root. At least...
So...I'm following this root guide for HTC Desire C. But before I can root I need to unlock the bootloader through htcdev..
On the site, they don't have the Desire C listed so I go to "All other supported devices" in the drop down.
I have followed the steps multiple times and keep getting stuck on step 8. When I enter "fastboot oem get_identifier_token" into the command line it will hang on <Waiting for device> and does nothing. No block of text comes.
If it makes a difference I have fastboot enabled and usb debugging enabled...but aren't those only relevant when the phone is booted? Not sure...
None of the one click programs have worked for me, theyre mostly for older phones if Im correct. But they do identify my phone as HTC Desire C or HTC Golf. But still don't work.
I hope this is the right forum. I couldn't find a Rooting forum here for this phone, hope to see one soon!
Its a great economy class phone with that Android potential.
Any members have experience with getting the bootloader unlocked wanna help? :highfive:
Thanks for reading and if you have to move this post sorry Mods but I couldn't find the right section.
Matt

I have tried several times, until it finally worked. It happend to me, that pressing the powerbutton while you get this message worked for me.
I am stuck later, as I tried different CWM, but in every case the phone reboots while doing an nandroid backup... - So my phone is rooted (it is my third android device). I can use CWM, but I can't do a backup within CWM.
Edit: Got my issue solved by formating data in CWM.

There's no need to use such large text for your entire post. Please use regular font size from now on, thanks.

Just set the Desire c in the Bootloader.
Power off ---> hold down volume+power on ---> plug the USB cabel from smartphone to PC.
Done.
Now try this again, u'll get the message.

cant unlock my bootloader

Hi deathcursed, maybe you can try posting it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1947613
Or, if you have the chance, try a different OS.

[Q] Help with bricked HTC One

I've been a lurker for the last few years; never thinking I would need any help or assistance .. but I have a situation ..
My Sprint HTC One was working better than I had ever seen it just last Thursday. I was running CM11, with ART. I had an old version of SuperOne (Sense 5) backed up with TWRP. I thought I'd go ahead and load the backup, and update all the apps and then make another more recent backup before returning to CM11. I got as far holding the power button and selecting recovery. The phone locked up at that point.
It took 10 minutes to get it back to the screen where you can select fastboot, factory reset, etc. Interestingly I couldn't get into TWRP. The screen read "entering recovery" and nothing. It would just hang there.
I read that erasing the cache with fastboot might work, and it did. But when I was able to enter recovery, instead of restoring CM11, I thought, "well, maybe now it'll work", so I just rebooted. Wrong. Wouldn't boot. And, now running fastboot cache erase (or erase cache) doesn't do anything.
Now, by pressing the power button alone and holding it in I'm able to get to the fastboot, factory reset, etc screen. Went to fastboot usb, and fastboot commands work but ADB doesn't detect the device. I can't send ADB commands, but I can send ONE fastboot command. After sending any fastboot command, the phone locks up. Nothing from that point.
I tried installing a RUU. The .exe file detected the version on my phone, and everything went great until the program said it was booting to the bootloader. Locked it up. Nothing from that point.
I need help.
Thanks.
I uninstalled the HTC drivers and reinstalled them. A suggestion since ADB didn't work. And I can't get into bootloader. No difference.
Any suggestions

You can get into fastboot correct?
Fastboot - Yes .. Sorta
I can get into fastboot, but I copy anything to the phone via fastboot. I'm told "unable to write". Thanks.

Ok it's probably a problem with your USB cable or USB port. Try using another PC and another cable.
If this doesn't work read some guide to properly set up ADB, uninstall all HTC stuff and install only the "naked driver" and than run the LATEST ruu. Maybe you have upgraded your firmware and can't flash older ruu's.
Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk
Will Try
I'll give that a try. I really appreciate the help. I run my whole business on that phone.
Just make sure you follow my suggestions properly. It should be just the cable, and I think you don't have the right drivers for ADB. Stay calm your phone is just soft bricked. You only need to be patient and read. Naked driver here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2263822

I did the same thing a few weeks ago and lost recovery in the process. The naked driver did the trick. Also the thread about restoring after a gsm rom install is a great. It's not a loss. Not having an sd card in the one made things a little different for me, but I was able to get everything back. These drivers suck!
Progress
I've followed your directions. I downloaded the naked driver, and the minimal ADT. I found the correct RUU (3.04.651.2) I attempted to relock the bootloader, but I got a message .. " Status read failed <no such file or directory>" Went ahead and tried flashing the RUU (fastboot flash zip ruu.zip), and got the message "FAILED Remote: not allowed"
The phone is unlocked, CID SPCS_001, and HBOOT 1.44
I wasn't able to access TWRP recovery earlier, so I tried reflashing the img file. Failed remote: image update error. I tried erasing the cache .. "Failed remote erasing error", but now I can get into TWRP.
TWRP says I have "0" internal storage. I also can't mount system, data or cache. The choices are there but can't be selected.
I can't use ADB (device not found). and the phone isn't detected by windows. I had installed the HTC drivers, but couldn't uninstall them, so I install HTC Sync manager and then uninstalled it. The program deleted the HTC drivers when I uninstalled it. When I plugged in the HTC One (with a new cable) nothing happened, so I used the windows hardware wizard to install the naked driver. The phone still isn't detected, but again I can issue fastboot commands. Well, one fastboot command and then the phone freezes up.
If I use filemanager within TWRP there's no emulated sd card. I really think that's where my problem is. No partitions are available. And, when I use TWRP to shut down, it warns me that no OS is installed.
Any other suggestions?
I sure appreciate all your help. Thanks.

Are you Linux savvy at all? All this crap is far easier on Linux. I guarantee the drivers are absolute cakewalk -- there isn't a specific driver at all, just a rule to tell the kernel about the device.
I can give you the udev rule for the phone if you are sick of trying to get Windows to work. The Android SDK is also quite easy to install.
If you want to try, just install Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. Later versions also work, but that version is the current stable release. I can help from there.
Try another cable maybe it's faulty. Uninstall all the HTC crap, run some cleaner app like ccleaner (maybe there are leftovers) and install only the naked driver. Your phone should be detected. Make sure you have the latest version of ADB. here's the latest http://click.xda-developers.com/api...n 1.1.3 Here&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13877458281136
The ruu is not to be flashed with fastboot commands, you must run the exe file
Here's the latest ruu
http://click.xda-developers.com/api....05.651 .5&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_138775039936710
-extract zip to a folder on your pc
-using fastboot, type this cmd: fastboot oem lock this will relock the bootloader
-from pc, run ARUWizard.exe from the extracted folder. it will run the RUU utility & flash back to stock

When you get it installed, login and open a terminal windows (it'll install Unity by default, so click on the first button on the left sidebar and search for terminal, then click on it), then type exactly the following (cut/copy/paste should do it too) noting that the first command will make you give your password since sudo requests root level access:
sudo apt-get update -y
sudo apt-get install -y wget openjdk-7-jdk
wget http://dl.google.com/android/android-sdk_r22.3-linux.tgz
mkdir ~/bin
cd ~/bin
tar xvzf ~/android-sdk_r22.3-linux.tgz
cat >> ~/.bashrc <<EOF
if [ -d ${HOME}/bin/android-sdk-linux ]; then
PATH+=":${HOME}/bin/android-sdk-linux/tools"
PATH+=":${HOME}/bin/android-sdk-linux/platform-tools"
fi
export PATH
EOF
exit
That last command will exit the terminal. Start another and it'll read the .bashrc file and presto -- you have SDK access from everywhere.
Then, type this command:
android
That will bring up the SDK UI -- let it download/install all of the latest stuff (r22 of the tools and whatnot).
When done, close the android SDK window.
Type adb (bet it works), but fastboot will require root access (I'm not going to teach you how to get around that yet -- no problem, you just run sudo and I'll show that in a sec).
Finally, plug in your HTC One and type adb devices and let's see if it didn't just know it already.
Lemme know.

@bigdaddy619 probably got you covered, but if not, let me know. Your friend for Broadcom chips on Dell boxes is here:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/bcm43xx
The gist is pretty simple. If you don't know which wireless you have, do this:
1) widen your terminal window so you have ample room (good and wide);
2) run sudo lspci -v
Hunt down the Broadcom info -- it'll say which device is your broadcom wifi. Just need the numbers.
Working ..
I feel like I'm making some progress here, but it's still not being recognized. Everything worked great up until ...
After closing the SDK window, I connected the HTC One, and "Fastboot USB" came up on my phone. I typed adb devices and got a line "List of Devices attached" by nothing was showing as being attached.
If I enter a fastboot command, it hangs saying "waiting on device".

Actually -- let's walk before we run. I loaded up Ubuntu real quick to assure I can duplicate what I want you to see. So, do this:
1) connect (if not already connected) the HTC to the usb port so you get 'fastboot (usb)' as normal;
2) type the following:
sudo su
lsusb -v >/tmp/lsusb.txt
chmod 666 /tmp/lsbusb.txt
exit
Now, edit that file in the text editor (just search for 'edit' like you did for 'termina' and select the "Text Editor". When you get that open, have it "File | Open" the file above -- /tmp/lsusb.txt
Then look through for text similar to what I give below. If we get that -- I need the idVendor line -- it should read: "idVendor 0x0bb4 High Tech Computer Corp."
I copied some sample output from my own machine so you can see how it should look:
--------
probably a bunch of stuff we don't care about, then something like...
Bus 001 Device 005: ID 0bb4:0ff0 High Tech Computer Corp.
Device Descriptor:
bLength 18
bDescriptorType 1
bcdUSB 2.10
bDeviceClass 0 (Defined at Interface level)
bDeviceSubClass 0
bDeviceProtocol 0
bMaxPacketSize0 64
idVendor 0x0bb4 High Tech Computer Corp.
idProduct 0x0ff0
bcdDevice 1.00
iManufacturer 1 htc, Inc
iProduct 2 Android 1.0
iSerial 3 XXXXXXXXXXXX (I X'd this out -- it'll be your device serial id).
bNumConfigurations 1
Configuration Descriptor:
bLength 9
bDescriptorType 2
wTotalLength 32
bNumInterfaces 1
bConfigurationValue 1
iConfiguration 0
bmAttributes 0x80
and a bunch more stuff...
If we don't see that, we got troubles. If we do -- we'll make a udev rule to load it up for adb and fastboot.
It appears he's bricked, when we first mounted the phone to the PC and it tried to install drivers we got QHSUSB_DLOAD which usually indicates a brick.
The strange thing was we could still access fastbootusb and the PC would recognize it being in fastboot. But any other command then fastboot devices would lock up the bootloader and fail.
Getting Closer
That's exactly it. "idVendor 0x0bb4 High Tech Computer Corp."
Finally, something worked. Thanks.

[Q] Total Newb, Question about Soft Brick

EDIT: Many apologies, I now see this belongs in a different thread, specifically the "7" Kindle Fire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting" one... very sorry. I don't know how to move/delete this, and I don't want to repost it there without deleting this one, because double posting = bad. I don't know how to ask a mod to do it, if you can. Sorry for not knowing the forums. Many apologies.
So I'm pretty sure I Soft Bricked my Kindle Fire HD 7". I'm not too mad, but I would like to try and fix it. To be exact, it redscreens on boot.
I was attempting to install TWRP and was at the last few steps when I did it, which seemed like the ones that would brick it. From all my looking around based off what was going on and the log I have from the command prompt.
These where the last steps I took before the problem. pastebin.com/BqGGKziP
My questions are:
Is this a soft brick?
Is it fixable?
If so, any ideas?
I already know if this is fixable to expect to be told I need a developer cable, but please tell me anyways if I do.
EDIT: If I do need one, which I assume I do, where can I get one? Sorry for being a newb, I knew I would probably brick my device, but I really don't know too much about these things and would like to make sure I am getting the right thing.
I apologize for being new and not knowing my way around this forum, and if this is the right place exactly to post this, as well as if I accidentally broke any rules. I'd simply like to know if anyone who knows much could help. Again this isn't a big deal to me, but I would like to get it at least back to it's original state. I will do my best to provide any information asked for.

Get a tip for your USB cord here to http://shop.teamblackhat.info/Factory-Adapters-motadapt.htm otherwise get a fastboot cord from ebay.
Download the SDK package https://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
Take take your SDK file and look for the folder that has the ADB.exe in it. I think this is the tools folder. Now open it and stick the drivers stunts has in that folder. Drivers here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2477379
Now go install that driver for the Kindle in the device manager. Remember that where ever you CD from, that USB driver has to be in that folder as well. Now open that folder with the drivers in it again and stick the stock Amazon images needed in it (get from restore tool if want or Hascode has some in his OP for this) and hold shift and right click on "open command window here." Now you are in CD cmd. You can probably just as easy CD from inside the system restore tool as well (unzip it.)
With your tablet in fastboot, open a command window and type "fastboot devices" with no quotes and you should be able to see a number and your device. This is good and means there is communications. if not then you need to install the proper drivers.
You need three files. boot.img, recover.img and system.img get them from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2128848
issue these commands
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash boot "your boot image name here."
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash recovery "your recovery image name here."
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash system "your system image name here"
Make sure you end the commands with .img
Wait a little bit for it finish
fastboot -i 0x1949 reboot
Your bootloader crashed and that's why the red screen. You forgot to tick the the option to flash Amazon OS 7.2.3. always works better to downgrade to 7.2.3 first (for 7" KFHD)

No worries. If you get hung up, hit "reply" under the post above and respond. That way it goes to my email. Good luck and don't get overwhelmed.
So I recently got the head piece from the store you linked me to, and I have been attempting to follow your steps, but I am having trouble at one I thought would be fairly straightforward. Installing the drivers.
My device manager shows no device to update the drivers for. I'm sure I'm just not knowing something really simple, but I'm not sure how to install the drivers you showed me without having the device to update in the Device Manager.
Additionally I would just like to ask that once I have the drivers installed, how do I get the device into fastboot? Is it just running a line of "fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product" and then plugging it in?
Thanks again for all the help.

Try these drivers http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2477379 Update them through device drives.
Make sure you have the SDK package downloaded and the paths set. watch this video for a great tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaNM-lt_aHw
Are you using a Windows7 X64 or Windows 8? If you are, you need to disable driver enforcement as well. You will want to do this first.
Disable device driver signature enforcement -
Both must be done from the administrator profile to work right
Both of these are for Windows 7 X64 users.
Windows 7 X32 and earlier version users do not have this issue
A.
1. Reboot and on start up press F8 a couple times.
2. Scroll down to "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement."
Note: This must be done on every bootup you want to install something not MS signed.
B. For a more permanent solution.
1. First go and uninstall the driver (delete driver) you want to replace and then restart your computer.
2. Now go to the start menu and type cmd.
3. Right click on "cmd" and open a command prompt with elevated privileges (run as administrator.)
4. Now copy these in the command prompt one at a time hitting enter after each one.
bcdedit.exe -set TESTSIGNING ON
bcdedit.exe -set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS
4. Now install the driver you want.
5. Restart the computer.
6. Profit.
Note: If you do this right, you will see "Test Mode Windows 7 Build 7601" (or something comparable) in the lower right corner of your screen. This means that drivers not signed by MS can be installed without getting the Windows has installed the best driver already bit.
If you opt to take your computer out of test mode, the drivers will more than likely be replaced by MS drivers next time. Following steps 1,2 and 3 in part B of tutorial copy these commands in the command prompt one at a time hitting enter after each one.
bcdedit.exe -set loadoptions ENABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS
bcdedit.exe -set TESTSIGNING OFF
bcdedit /set nointegritychecks ON
bcdedit /set nointegritychecks OFF
Possible Windows 8 cmd
bcdedit /set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS
Since I don't have Windows 8 to do a personal tutorial, I'll just link to a good tutorial for that.

So I booted up with the driver security disabled, however I'm still having the problem that no where in the device manager can I find my device to update the drivers for.
I'm super sorry if I'm missing something obvious and simple, I just don't see what it is, and thusfar all my attempts have simply resulted in plugging in the usb to the tip and tip to the device and having absolutely zero reaction.
I am running Windows 7 (64bit) to answer that question, sorry I didn't think to say that before.

I just looked on your pastebin link. That is an incredibly old TWRP. The most recent one is 2.6.3.1
The reason you had the red screen is because you never flashed a bootloader. I see a boot.img and a recover.img
If you are getting no response at all, even with the fastboot tip on the USB cord, you could have a hard brick. If you can try another USB cord first to make sure. Maybe another port on your computer.

Welp, as I said, I'm not too mad, and I knew going in that I would never be sure enough to know what I was doing.
From the seems it would be hard bricked then, because with the tip I get no response, I've tried all 3 of my cables, and all of my ports. Thanks for all the help though, it's very much appreciated. ^.^

[Q] ADB device unauthorized, no root, can't figure it out?

Hey, all. So, I just got a Moto X through AT&T, and I'm looking to root it. It came with the 4.4 update already on it, so I've been trying to follow the appropriate guides from jcase, but I'm running into an error very early on. After I download the ADT bundle and get adb installed and have it up and running, I was at first finding that my device wasn't showing up when I did the command "adb devices". I fixed this by getting the drivers from motorola with their device manager download, but...
Now I'm getting it showing up as an unauthorized device. I have USB debugging enabled, to start. I never received an authorization option when plugging my phone into my computer. I have it set to PTP, not MTP. I've tried toggling the USB debugging off and on multiple times, I've tried the revoke usb debugging authorization multiple times, and I've gone through and deleted the .android folder in C->Users->me. Since I don't have root, I can't go through and delete any sort of folder in my phone involving adb, because I saw that a lot as I've been doing google searches on how to try and fix this before posting here. One of my attempts when deleting .android involved me unplugging my Moto X, deleting the .android folder, running adb kill-server and then adb start-server commands, and rebooting my Moto X before plugging it back in. I still have never received an option to authorize my device.
I am running on Windows 8.1, if that makes any difference. I checked my adb version using the command, and it shows me running adb version 1.0.31. I am rather new to playing around with phones and whatnot, and all of the things I have tried were things that I found through google searches that pointed me to threads here at XDA. I'm willing to try pretty much anything, and I will report back and give further information if needed.
Thanks in advance, all

i also use mine on MTP but im running win7
issue def sounds like you did not allow the connection. have you tried uninstalling the drivers in device manager for the phone restarting and letting windows reinstall them and see if you can get the toast on your phone and accept it.
if that fails i would try competley reinstalling everything or trying another computer, another cable, another port.

I tried PTP because people were saying that they were having better luck with phones in PTP, not MTP. I haven't tried uninstalling the drivers yet, which might be the issue. I tried initially just plugging my phone in before I downloaded the Motorola Device Manager program, so I'll try going through and uninstalling the drivers, and the MDM program, and then reinstalling (when I get home from work).
I'll try another port, and I can also try another computer, so I'll also do that when I get home. Thanks for your response, and I'm really hoping this works :good:

i looked threw a couple threads of people having this issue. this is the order i would troubleshoot myself one other thing i have read is something about unsigned drivers which i dont think you should be having any issues with it but if you ever see a window that states about unsigned drivers reboot your PC while tapping F8 and tap the down arrow till you highlight Disable driver signature required i think is what it says and see if that helps
1. drivers only(make sure you restart after you remove the drivers and make sure you check the box for delete drivers)
2. different port
3. different cable
4. complete reinstall of adb and everything.( also restart after you uninstall everything.)
5. different computer (or use virtual PC if you don't have another PC)
6. re post here lol
Hope this all helps man

So, I've done everything in this list, and also added trying forums.motorola.com/posts/caa12135bd?commentId=725256#725256 out. I'm pretty much out of ideas, because everything I've searched showed pretty much everything you've suggested (and that I tried!) as suggestions
I appreciate the help, but so far (at this rate), I think I might just not have to root. This is super frustrating to me!
EDIT: Actually, I think I finally have something here! After hooking it up to another computer, installing the adk and everything, making sure all the drivers showed up as installed correctly and getting nothing I pretty much resided to giving up. I, for whatever reason, decided to try and run adb. After I did, and ran the start-server command, it gave me the window to accept my laptop's fingerprint! Finally on to follow the rest of the guides!
Thanks!!!
Second edit: So, proceeding to step 3 or so in RockMyMoto, I'm encountering another issue. When running Impactor and trying to run telnet on port 2222 or whatever that is, I get an error that says Signature Bugs unavailable. If I'm understanding correctly, I have to do everything in this guide to downgrade to 4.2.2 or whatever the version with the camera update is, because there isn't a root available for 4.4 without downgrading. But now I'm seeing that I somehow need to downgrade from 4.4 to the previous version in order to get Impactor/telnet working correctly?
I'm super lost now :C
well in order to root 4.4 you have to downgrade to 4.2.2 camera update. if your not sure on how to do it here is a link to a video on how to do it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2446515
and if you are having issues with telnet here is a guide that might help
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2509676
if after reading that if you are still lost i can setup remote access via Teamviewer and show you how to do it. but only if you are comfortable with it.

So I'm going to work on downgrading to 4.2.2 camera update right now. Thanks for all these links and offers for help :good:. I'll report back, hopefully with a successful root
EDIT: A question for you. Am I able to run my phone in ART runtime after I root it, should I stay in dalvik or w/e it is, or does it not matter?

Alright, cool. I'll make a backup after I'm done with everything and try it out. Maybe do some poking around here first, see if it came up at all.
I've hit a few snags, but so far I've figured everything out. I'm working on doing SlapMyMoto right now, which is the last step for root and to be on 4.4, yeah?

I didn't want to bug you with this, so I had made a post over in the SlapMyMoto thread, but I'll put it up here. If you don't wanna bother, I'll hang around in the SMM thread and wait for a response.
"I've done everything from 1-3, including accepting and installing the OTA update to 4.4. I'm trying to run the last command in step 4, the adb shell stuff, but literally nothing is happening. I still have access from motowpnomo, I checked using the write_protect command, and it is still showing a "0" I don't know what to do at this point, though.
USB Debugging is on, adb devices shows my phone as being connected correctly
This is a screen cap of what my command prompt shows after I input that command from step 4

Any suggestions?"

i might downgrade just to run back threw it to see if i can figure it out and maybe put together a package for you that i know works. but i am on the sprint X

i've got one for you... running windows 7, 32 bit. Eset AV-disabled.. have 4.2.2 rooted, but can't get moto-wp-nomo to successfully run...any ideas?

using osx to unlock bootloader???

first, i have already unlocked my bootloader using windblowz on a boot camp partition of my mac. BUT, since android is a unix-like os, and osx is a unix-like os, FOR MY OWN EDUCATION, i want to be able to use the osx terminal to do this stuff to my n6.
so here's what i tried, and none of it works... as in, none of it even results in any like link between my phone and my osx computer.
1) i watched this youtube video from droidmodderX, and followed it to the letter:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUkcWlknFsE
from the time he plugs his n6 into his mac, NOTHING he says will happen, actually happened. it was as if i had plugged the phone into nothing. He says NOTHING about installing the android SDK for osx in his video. sooo....
2) next, i install the android SDK for osx, thinking droidmodderX was just careless in his video, and forgot to mention that you need to do this. NOTHING. i open the terminal and run the various fastboot commands from the root directory... NOTHING. using the terminal, i change over to the directory where i actually put the SDK, and then run the fastboot/adb commands from terminal again, and NOTHING. I tried this with the phone in fastboot, and with the phone not in fastboot, and NOTHING.
so how do you get osx to talk to this phone with fastboot/adb commands using the terminal?
fwiw, android file transfer works fine in the gui, so i know the physical connecction is good.
also, fwiw, i did use the search function and someone asked a similar question about his n5 about a year ago... and got no answer. not a single one.
-peter
If you run "./adb devices" without quotes does it see the phone at all? Make sure you have the most up to date SDK for OS X and also make sure you update the platform-tools in the SDK manager.
Check this thread out, might help a bit.
EDIT: Try running the commands as root/sudo.
I used this method on my MacBook Air to root my device without any issues. Make sure that you are in the correct folder when executing the commands. The first time it should ask you for your password. Also make sure that you have USB debugging enabled on your phone and that you are in the bootloader. You can also try to download Android File Transfer (google it) and see if it works with your phone. Hope that this helps.
You're aware that the bootloader on the Nexus 6 can be unlocked simply by toggling "Enable OEM Unlock" under Developer Settings, right?
With that said, I agree that it is smart to keep up with proper ADB/Fastboot commands as those are the most sure fire way to get you out of a pinch.
I have had absolutely no issues using Terminal to perform Fastboot commands on my Nexus 6 using my Mac with OSX Yosemite. As long as you get it setup correctly you should have no issues.
I just dug up the detailed instructions I used to get my Mac setup for this. Start from scratch, follow these instructions and you should be good to go:

As I said in my original post, I already have Android File Transfer, no need to google it. It works great. Had it for years.
I made some headway when I started using ./adb before each command. It sees my device now and when i ran ./adb help, it put out a list of commands and switches in the terminal, that I'm starting to play with. thanks for the ./adb clue. that was a biggie now using ./adb i can reboot and boot into bootloader. but for example "./adb fastboot oem lock", (without the quotes), does nothing. (i used "oem lock" as a test, because the bootloader is already unlocked)

No worries at all - I was frustrated myself until I found the YouTube video. I think after ./ you need a space before you use the command line. What I did was put the CF auto-root folder (unzipped) on my desktop. I renamed the folder CF to make it easy. I opened the folder and doubled clicked on the Mac file. It should open and say just press enter - it will not work. Keep the folder open and open up the terminal. Here is what I had to do.
Put the phone is download mode with "Start" appearing - then plug into computer. (make sure debugging on)
cd /Users/mycomputername/desktop/CF - I needed a space after cd
paste and copy the 3 sudo commands (with the sudo) out of the CF folder one at a time - pressing enter after each.
The first enter - you should be asked for your password.
Mike
Going well now guys thanks. I like having two unix-like devices (osx computer and android handset), talking without needing drivers.

Hello everyone,
I'm in the same boat, except my device won't show up under devices in transmission after the "./adb devices" command.

Usb debugging and oem unlock is checked on my phone, I restarted both phone and computer. Any advice/guidance/direction would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I had this issue myself when I tried unlocking. It seems when you type fastboot, CMD keeps using an older version. You will need to directly call /fastboot.exe, wherever the full path is, and have your Razer in bootloader mode (it took me an hour to figure out I already had it in bootloader mode), and hopefully it will find it.
TLDR: Make sure adb and fastboot are being executed from their actual paths and that they are the latest.
Also USB debugging is on? Did you check the notifications?

I vaguely recall having the same issue, and fixed it by going into the Device Manager and installing a different driver for the phone. I can't remember exactly which one it was (I want to say it said something about fastboot). This was after booting into fastboot of course, since Windows uses a different driver for when it's in fastboot vs when it's booted normally.
Heres what I did:
1) Download https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/repository/latest_usb_driver_windows.zip
2) Extract to a folder in your desktop.
3) Go into the folder and look for android_winusb.inf
4) Right click it and choose install.
5) Press the windows button and X at the same time and choose device manager.
6) Plug the phone in and find the device in the device manager. It could be in a couple different device trees, so you'll have to find it.
7) Right click and choose update driver. Choose browse, then browse again, and find the folder on your desktop with the drivers. choose that same .inf file from earlier.
8) You'll have 3 different options. I've always had success with the ADB Composite driver.

After I update it the software drivers for the computer it says Razer phone 2 but it doesn't work right. I tried doing one of those scripts to reflash to stock software and it doesn't do Jack squat it sits there waiting for device.
use samsungs usb driver installer and change adb driver to Samsung's version in device manager. should see fastboot device now .

The CPU AMD and windows 10 has an issues with fasboot driver everytime that you put command in fastboot the screen changes and starts displaying following message "Press any key to shutdown" waiting for devices or stuck on fastboot "sending system ...123,456kb. No need to find any cable to fix this just install windows 7 and flashing step by step then the problem will be solved

Lol okay..that's about as random as "hey anybody reading this thinking about getting an S20 Ultra or one of the others"
I am....
I had the same problem. I never could get it to work in Windows. Luckily, however, I have an Ubuntu dual boot on my system, so I installed ADB & Fastboot on linux, put the phone in download mode, plugged it in, and it showed up without issue. This won't help for everybody, but if you have a linux machine, or a you can install a dual boot, it'll get you where you need to be. And it's a lot easier than Windows. You might be able to do a USB pass through, to a VM, but I haven't tested it. It could be worth a shot, if you don't have any other options.
Hi All,
Thought I would post this on here for you all, might help someone else like it did me.
What ImperialMe said is correct and I was able to do both my Razor 1 and 2 using it.

The easy method is to download the Ubuntu Image for Windows (ubuntu.com/download/desktop)
Once you have it, burn it to USB using Rufus (rufus.ie)
Boot into the USB on your PC and when prompted just run as is, no need to install.
Once running, open a terminal window and with internet access and run the following:
Code:
sudo add-apt-repository universe && sudo apt-get update
Now run:
Code:
sudo apt-get install android-tools-adb android-tools-fastboot
When promoted press Y and enter
Now run:
Code:
sudo adb start-server
Connect your phone, turned on and on the home screen for example. Run the following
Code:
sudo adb devices
You should see your device listed as unauthorised and get a prompt for ADB access on the mobile phone.
run it again to confirm its authorised and then enter:
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
Once rebooted, use the menu to select boot into fastboot on the phone
Now back to the terminal window, enter:
Code:
Fastboot devices
You should now see your device listed and commands should work as expected.
If you need to copy anything over to the temporary USB OS then use another USB drive and copy them to it before you boot the OS.
I tried this in a VM and VMWare and HyperV both failed as the drivers they use are still Windows based and failed. Only a full OS worked.
Hope this helps someone else!
