Google Nexus 7 disabled (shipping never received) - Nexus 7 General

Anybody knows what happens to your Nexus 7 after you reported lost/stolen? What does Google disables? How long does it take for Google to send you a new one?
Called Google and they say the 2 level department that handles losses usually takes 3-4 days for them to reply to you after you reply with "I CONSENT" which authorizes Google to disable your previous device. I am on day 4 so far nothing...
What exactly are they going to disable if I never received it?
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda app-developers app

I don't think they can technically disable it. They probably just use the information for warranty purposes in case the tablet is ever RMA'd and so your not held responsible for any unauthorized play store purchases. Now I could be wrong but this is most likely the case.

Thanks for some of the info but still then why do they state on the email it will be disabled? Any other thoughts?
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda app-developers app

I would think they remove any association with your Google account on the servers and might ban the device from being attached to your Google email/account.
It takes them a couple of days to contact the shipping company and do an investigation. They need to see if there was any signature, where the driver left the package, etc.
If they find your claim is on the up and up, I'm sure you will be sent a replacement shipment shortly.
Good luck.

Good question. Unless Google sends some sort of signal to the device once it connects to the internet that locks down the device, its hard to see how they could disable it.

Why did you create 2 threads after I moved your other one to the correct forum?

Nexus 7 Replacement

Just received an email from Google Play about my replacement. Didn't see any similar threads pop up but just in case, here is some info for anyone who wants to get theirs replaced:
http://support.google.com/googleplay/bin/static.py?hl=en&page=ts.cs&ts=2693239&from=2693239&rd=1
I literally filled that out yesterday and got my UPS return label, RMA slip, and replacement cart link a about 10 minutes ago. They want the old device back within 21 days and put a $249 authorization hold on your card until they receive it. They have a shopping cart setup for you so you just click the link and place the replacement order.
Sorry if this is a duplicate, mods can take this down if they want.

That thread gives no useful information on a RMA order, it just talks about those who already or are going to replace.
Yea, the turn arounds are getting faster and faster. My first replacement took a week. My second, half that. Hopefully, I don't have to see how long a third takes...
I got the email to order replacement twice. Just clicked on link in one email but curious if people got it twice too.

Are they shipping these expedited or the same method as a brand new order? And was the second replacement for the same issue? Cause that scares me, haha.
Edit: Looked through the post linked above. Guess some got it over a couple days some a little longer. Oh well as long as its coming!
After i got the UPS label, what should i do with the old N7?

Just an update. Got my replacement tablet a couple days ago and had the screen rising issue out of box. My only reaction: WTF. Feel like returning at least until the manufacturing issues are resolved.

Jelly Bean 4.2 will have Multiple User Accounts -- Privacy At Last!

From Google's press release / blog post today:
With Android 4.2, you can add multiple users and switch between them instantly right from the lockscreen. We believe that everyone should have quick and easy access to their own stuff -- email, apps, bookmarks, and more. That way, everyone can have their own home screens, their own music, and even their own high scores.

This will solve one of my greatest complaints -- my only complaint, actually -- about the Nexus-7. I have to go to lengths to be able to hand my tablet to anyone else to use while still protecting my privacy. It galls me that not only do I have to lock down the Gmail app before handing over my N7, I have to lock down Chrome too, because Chrome will either automatically log into my account when Chrome visits mail.google.com (aka gmail.com) or will offer to do so. Same for all other Google sites (e.g. Google+). I hate that. Once JB 4.2 is on my N7, that will no longer be a concern.
This is pretty nice; although I don't let anyone else really touch or use my Nexus 7
When would they start 4.2 OTA for N7?? Nov 13 or earlier?
This would be nice.
My nexus is used as a family tablet & i'm reluctant to add my google account.
I'd like all of the goodies from the store from my account but don't want my gmail on there as the wife would go mental if she looked through all of my reciepts!
Yeah any word on 4.2 update?

Can you make other accounts limited users? As in, no you can uninstall half the apps I have installed. I launch a file manager and go snooping around other account directories.
I though the update was today... i immediately checked for updates on my device as soon as I saw 4.2

I would actually let other people use my tablet with this!
This is huge... We're beginning to roll out Nexus 7's in select areas of work (K-12 public school district) to students with special needs and/or classes who can benefit from these devices. It would be awesome to have multiple accounts, ESPECIALLY if we can lock it down. I'd love to hand the Nexus 7 out to elementary students knowing that the icons cannot be deleted, etc. Any word on the degree of limits, if any, you can assign other users?
Should be good, chromebooks do this well already , log in and have all your ****, themes, bookmarks, logins/ passwords, apps, Google drive etc all separate and personalised. Even downloads are in a user specified area, available to just that user. simple old idea, but effectively done.

I'm sure it'll have some sort of administrtive rights to it
I share my Nexus 7 with my daughter - and it is actually quite hard getting it away from her.
Separate log ins and sign on's will make everything a lot more convenient - except the physical part of getting it back...
Now she can have the screens the way she wants.

Nexus 4 Google Wallet Fail.

So I was excited to finally use Google wallet on my nexus, I walked into my local McDonalds and ordered just a regular cheeseburger. When the lady asked me to pay I then busted out my phone and tried to tap the NFC pad, it didn't do anything and everyone was staring at me thinking I'm some sort of alien. I just thought maybe you guys have some fails too, please post below!!
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Since PA had been updating the ROM a lot, I forget to set up my wallet. Every time I have the chance to use it, it takes forever to set up. I always just end up using my debit card
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
It's happened to me too. My wallet works at a lot of places, so it's not my phone, but it's still embarrassing. It's the store/restaurant, but the dummies working there don't know how to use pay pass or their system was never set up for our even though the pass pad is on.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
I've used it with vending machines a few times. I'm afraid to use it at a store cause I don't know if its set up on their system and I don't want to make an idiot of myself. Lol
Sent from my Nexus 4
There is a list that is easily found that shows the stores, etc that have signed on. It works well at those places of your set up. I have only used it twice though as not many stores use it yet.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I recently tried to use it at my place of work. No matter what, the cashier and I couldn't get it to work. She had heard of the technology and even has another customer who uses Google wallet. I finally decided it was the phone and paid cash. Wallet recognizes its near the NFC debit reader, but says the data transfer may have failed.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
I have had it work and not work. In fact, it has worked AND not worked in the same McDonalds, but most likely different pads. My friend that works for google says that it is most likely the pad that doesn't work. But when you start it, make sure you have set up wallet AND that the screen has been turned on. You might want to try resetting your phone before you go into a place where you are going to pay with wallet.
Mine has always worked other than the first time at Target.
The instructions tell you to unlock the phone first, tap NFC pad, then put in your access code. That way did not work for me.
Instead, I turn on my phone and load up wallet first. Enter the pin, and keep it at the card screen. Tap to pay. WIN.

mine always works. i've had a fail here n there but usually my fault after updating roms and not setting wallet back up. unlock screen, tap and you will hear a beep, enter pin, tap again and done. when you get used to it you get faster.

I gave u a Thanks to cheer you up after the embarrassment.
But yep, I am always afraid of using it, anyway my CC gives me cashback so no need for Google wallet, the first thing I do when I root is to take out the *nfc*apk and Wallet.apk so they don't take resources.
I like more the idea of the Apple passbook.
Lol upon reading op

My galaxy nexus works at McDonald's but my n4 doesn't. I thought I saw another thread where they were saying that the new NFC on the n4 want compatible with the older NFC readers at McDonald's.

Register NFCs should always be on, and shouldn't be disabled at any time unless it's broken.

At McDonalds yes, you have to open the app first, then tap. That ALWAYS works for me.

Android in 1969?

Thought this was weird. I went to check for the latest update trying to pull the out to my phone and it gave me this.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
:laugh: You have a very old android phone
That would be because of the way computers keep time. The time on your machine is called from a base of 1/1/1970. That's when time starts for a computer. You can probably find a more detailed explanation on Google but that's the gist from my limited understanding on the matter. If you've cleared the cache for Google Services, it resets the last update checked to the date you saw as it is just before time starts.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
clearing Google Services Framework is not a good idea.. when you get ERROR retrieving information from server {RPC S-5: AEC -0 } in playstore , remove your Google account then add it again. You're welcome.
Let's face it.
Stop hiding from the truth.
Your phone is secretly a time dilation matrix.
Sometimes my SMS timestamps show 1969 too haha

Why is that? Apart from that play store issue, which also gets resolved.

Thats a timestamp=0 issue.
Tiemstamps are counted as seconds or milliseconds from 1.1.1970 ... which looks suspiciously close to 31.12.1969-
I actually received a blank email from 1969. When I logged on to my email account on PC, I found that it was a valid email from AT&T letting me know my bill was available for online viewing and payment.

XDA app and Amazon app get stuck?

Has anyone else noticed that the XDA app sometimes loads a thread immediately and then other times it gets "stuck" where it can take a very long time to load? When it gets stuck, I can click back and then click the same thread again, which sometimes will load it quickly. I notice the exact same behavior in the Amazon app when clicking a product. It happens on both WiFi and LTE and has happened with every version of android so far on the N6.
I use XDA and Amazon all the time so this is a particularly frustrating issue for me.
UPDATE: here is a video demonstrating the problem with the Amazon app:
Amazon App getting stuck on Nexus 6: https://youtu.be/bjDayQJVV3g
Which XDA app? Theres like a million of them. One of the tapatalk versions?
I'm using the XDA premium app.
I'm not convinced that it's an issue specific to the app though because I didn't notice this on my Nexus 4 and the exact same issue happens in the Amazon app.

XDA premium is based on Tapatalk and Tapatalk has problems on this forum. Its specific to this forum too, because taptalk works fine on other forums I use. I think the API on XDA for Tapatalk is outdated and since XDA are working on their own new XDA app (XDA One), they're probably not going to be too bothered to fix it.
Not sure about Amazon
Tapatalk has gone into the toilet over the years at this point I would honestly pay to go back to an old version. The iOS version is such a monstrosity and just so horrible its at the point of being unusable. if the thread I want actually comes up and displays I feel like I've won something.

Thanks for the replies. Seems like this might be something a new XDA app could fix.
Here is a quick video I made showing the Amazon issue:
Amazon App getting stuck on Nexus 6: https://youtu.be/bjDayQJVV3g
The first 2 products open fast and then the third gets stuck. I click back and re try 5 times and on the last try, it opens fast like the first 2 did. Anyone else have this issue with Amazon?
Yes you are correct ..Those are the worse two apps to get "stuck".. Only other app is WWE SUPERCARD..Every other app is fine..I do believe it is app issues not phone related.
