How can i enable Phone or Phablet UI? - TouchPad Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
first, my english very very terrible sorry:crying:
I want phone or phablet ui
I tried many ways
i changed dpi to 240 and i can see phone ui but no softkey
so, i compile framework-res.apk and enable softkey and aplly but my tp systemui error :crying:
How can i enable phone ui? i want phablet but it can only jellybean..so i just want to enable phone ui..
Thx

what do you mean phone ui? Like you want a dock at bottom? You can use a 3rd pt launcher to get it like Apex, enable dock

The hybird phone/tablet UI that the Nexus 7 uses is only available in JB. Switching to a phone UI in ICS will cause all apps to go back to phone mode, I'm not sure why you would want that.

[Q] Home screen cascade with stock launcher?

Is there anyway to enable a cascade home screen menu when you're already home and you press home again (like in HTC's Sense UI) on the stock launcher (or an alternate launcher that has a stock UI) on a rooted n1?
I'd really prefer not to run a third party launcher if at all possible.
I tried searching but only found results for fixing broken screens. :-\
Thanks for your help.
I'm not entirely sure what you mean by cascade homescreen menu but I doubt what you want is possible in the stock launcher. Regardless I suggest you install something like Launcher Pro for added features but above all else, for the massive improvement in speed and smoothness. It was really a night and day difference on my phone and you can make Launcher Pro look exactly like stock. It was like buying a new phone.

Toggle sense 3.6 on/off

Is it possible to disable sense 3.6 after the ota update to 4.0? I would like to see how just the stock android 4.0 UI is compared to the HTC Sense overlay. I know when I had windows os phones it was rather easy but I am not sure how to if at all possible to get sense turned off. Im not looking to root my phone, I really have no need to. Thanks guys!
You can't just toggle Sense off - you'd need to install a whole new ROM, which you don't want to do.
But you can run a different launcher, or home app, on top of HTC Sense, in place of the default Sense launcher. The launcher provides the user interface part of the ROM.
Try something like 'nova launcher' - it looks more like ICS was meant to. When you run it, you can change the nova settings to make it the default launcher app.
Nova's just the one I use - there are lots of others that might be more like what you want.
Apex when I get bored, I'm back to sense for now.

cool, thanks guys. I took a look at a few different launchers and I guess I like the stock sense instead, Go figure. i must say though that the update is quite nice. much faster and runs very smooth.

No tablet UI for Nexus 7 on 4.2

I updated my Nexus 7 to android 4.2, rooted it, edited the prop.build to change the LCD density to 160. Looks like Googles removing the tablet UI.
Yes this has been known since Nexus 10 was announced
Hopefully paranoidandroid can do something with it
i dont mind the phablet UI but I just want the tablet Youtube app.
i hate hate hate the phone youtube app with a passion.
does anyone know how to get the youtube app to scale out?
Ya I'm hoping PA can solve this. Not at all pleased about losing tablet ui. I guess phablet works on the nexus 7 because its meant to be held vertically but I couldn't imagine it on a 10in horizontal tablet.

Good, tablet ui was ugly and un-userfriendly. The new ui is a lot better especially for new users.

I can live with the phablet UI, except for the location of the navigation bar buttons. The locations essentially turn my experience into thumb olympics.
Google really needs to give us customization options for the navigation bar. Let us decide where the buttons are. Or potentially let us make the navigation bar be on the side of the screen while in landscape mode, because it's quite awful as of right now.
just updated to 4.2, checked out some of the awesome new features, rooted, adjusted my lcd density to get my tablet ui back only to find i can't.
the big phone ui is horrible, it wastes space by having two separate bars on my screen, and means i can't just hold the tablet at the bottom and still be able to reach all my controls. really disappointing.
Oh, glad I didn't update then! I hate having the status bar at the top AND the button bar at the bottom, the tablet UI is a much better use of space.
i'm a bit confused as to why they've removed the tablet ui altogether when changing the density. unless they have actually removed it entirely from the os meaning that no tablet will have the tablet ui once upgraded to 4.2 unless it's manually put there by the manufacturer.
So there is no tablet ui at all when the lcd density is changed to 160?
nope. i took it down to 170 which gives me the tablet ui for my apps like youtube, and gave me the full tablet ui on 4.1.2, but i just get a smaller phone ui on 4.2.
still worth an upgrade imho, the lock screen password entry is much nicer, multi user support is enabled, gmail has FINALLY added pinch to zoom, and i'm sure there's much more i haven't noticed yet, but i do miss my tablet ui
I definitely preferred it.
The Nexus 10 even uses the phablet UI. They're doing way with the gt tablet UI for conformity because everyone complained about it being "confusing" and Google can't figure out what they want.
So we now have a uniformed UI... Sadly.
Tablet UI was my choice. It was perfect IMO. Everything at the bottom on each side for great thumb control and a quick settings access menu for toggles. Using my N7 on 4.2 seems counter intuitive because I constantly have to shift hands to grab the top bars. I also don't care for the 2 menus. I inadvertently grab the wrong menu often... And the "toggles" are not predictable. Some are direct toggles but others are shortcuts. The major ones like Bluetooth and WiFi are shortcuts.
And the lockscreen widgets are cool... But I hate the little white border every time I unlock that indicates I can scroll. I'd move the lock screen widgets down and have a dedicated settings menu to enable/disable or just use the existing widget picked from the start menu which options of home screen or lock screen placement.
I'm sure they'll work the kinks out soon.

You can still get Tablet UI from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1780970&page=84
See post number 840 on page 84. Download the 4.2-TabletUI.zip and flash in recovery.
Only problem is stock launcher does not fit the screen. Nova Launcher (free from Play Store) works fine. Same Tablet experience as with 4.1.2.

So this is a full ROM update, not some apk you load on top of your existing ROM? If I use it, will it wipe my settings? EDIT: never mind' looked at the wrong post, it looks like post 840 has a patch
I do like the tablet interface best, easier to reach buttons with my thumb (I use my tablet horizontally a lot). Also I don't use a dock on my home screen and with the update I no longer can bring up the app drawer from the status bar.
I may try Chameleon Launcher as my "Tablet UI"
I've been looking at it for a long time and noticed that the price was just cut to $3.99.
Probably cashing in on the people who lost the old UI.

Chameleon is still just a launcher, it won't change you to a tablet ui.

True, but it may resolve my issues. And my point was to share info about the price cut with people here as much as anything.
I know a lot of people have been interested but turned off by the former $10 price.

[Q] Modification of Lockscreen Orientation in Android 2.3.6

For a project I am modding a Samsung Galaxy mini plus (GT-S5570i) and I want to change the orientation of the lockscreen to be always horizontal. I know that there are multiple apps that can lock it to horizontal. The problem is that after booting and before launcher comes up, the lockscreen is shown for a while and all apps will be activated afterwards. Therefore, I always see the lockscreen in the portrait mode within this period.
I had modified the xml layout of the framework-res.apk and succeeded to change the text inside lockscreen (changing the "swipe to unlock") but changing the layout into horizontal does not work.
Also because it is android 2.3.6 it is not possible to completely disable the lockscreen.
I want to know what and how to modify the framework to make the lockscreen be always horizontal.
Does themer clash with launcher

I meant that "does themer take a lot of ram"
When I use themer with nova launcher it just gets slow like hell

[Q] Question About Using A Rom But Having Stock Rom Showing

Hey guys,
Sorry for the poor wording, but there's times where I want a full-blown smart watch using Foamey's ROM but to be honest I love having the watch with the traditional look, and not a watch that looks like a small Android tablet.
What I'd love to do is install his ROM but have it kind of "run in the background", and make it look stock. I would use the Bluetooth Tethering Toggle (preferably as an icon I can swipe to much like a stock Gear has now) to do things like give me access to my Phillips Hue Lights instead of having to grab my phone from the charger.
I'm guessing I just install the launcher but the first time it asks whether I want to use it or the stock launcher when I press home, I just choose the stock launcher? Other than that all my notifications will work just like I'm stock?
Thanks a lot guys.
Yep, just use stock launcher. Launcher determines look. You can switch between launchers
