Hi guys,
I have a Nexus One running 2.2 and was thinking about swapping it for a HTC HD2 and then putting Froyo on it myself. I like the fact that the HD2 has a bigger screen and pretty much the same spec as the Nexus One.
Does anyone know how the HTC HD2 runs after putting Froyo in it? Is it as fast as the N1 with Froyo? Is everything working like callls Wifi etc.? Would you do the swap I am about to do or do you think I'm mad?

i did tried it on my HD2 last night . software still have alot not respone error not smooth running yet. had to force stop alot the screen look washed out compare to nexus one battery not recognized. and it running hot. i did see the advance of having larger screen thought.

Larger screen... if you prefer that, that's probably the only thing that makes it better than the Nexus. The biggest downside is it being a windows based phone. Wait for galaxy S to come out for T-Mobile. Or go for EVO if you want a bigger screen, that would be a smarter way to go.
If I was to start all over though, and had a choice between those devices ... I'd buy a nexus one once again.

samsung galaxy S already came out on tmobile. and i'm still choice N1 over HD2 every time.

thinking of trading nexus one for iphone 3gs and htc hd2, both phones are unlocked. Would this trade be worth doing? I ve used an unlocked, jailbroken iphone before pretty solid, wouldnt mind playing with the hd2 for awhile.

I would not do that. While it is neat to see android running on a a wm phone, it would never be nearly as stable as a real android phone. I had a touch diamond and I could never use android on a daily basis, had awful battery life and all kind of other problems
I've been toying with the idea of buying a Nexus One for some time now, I'm no stranger to Android, having owned a Droid 2, Droid Incredible, and now a Samsung Captivate that I use with work. I currently also have an iPhone 4 as my personal phone, and I was just given an HTC Surround and Samsung Focus to replace the Captivate with, so I have to decide which I like more. I love Android, I've always been more drawn to it than my iOS devices, although I do love my iPhone. Now that the Nexus One has been out for a year and has its "successor" (depending on who you ask), is it a good buy still? I'm tired of waiting for AT&T to come out with something new that's a real killer phone, I've been hearing whispers of the HTC Desire HD being in testing, and the Moto Olympus being announced at CES. I'd get a Nexus S if I had T-Mobile and it had a microSD slot, but other than a larger screen and NFC capability, I don't see any real upgrade the S brings. What does everyone think, if I get this Nexus One is it a great buy and I'll enjoy it for awhile, or should I save my money and just wait longer?
PS, I know I own too many phones I can't help it! 3 phone lines will do that to ya
I barely got my nexus one so I would give you my own personal feedback.
Cons:
1.battery is some what horrible under medium to heavy use you can always tweak the phone to make last longer but sometimes is a pain in the butt.
2. 512mb of storage is a step back having to always watch what you installed, once again you can tweak it and make it less of an issue.
3. touch screen feedback is not the best like other phones that are out there. also having some multitouch issues on all models but I hardly notice the issue.
4. My personal issue not having a call and end keys is a pain but that just me been picky.
5. another personal opinion camera its not the greatest in my opinion.
Pros:
1. I got the phone for 295 under no contract that's a awesome deal I think.
2. will get gingerbread soon.
3. Having stock android makes things so much better I could of bought many android phones but the lack of updates made think twice of spending 300 plus.
4 this is a big one for me having to tether and having hotspot internet without rooting makes me so happy.
5. Adobe flash I love having flash for the same reason I didn't buy the nokia n8.
I know for a fact next year will be a big year for android if you wanna wait.
I have my nexus a year now, bought it when it just came out. I can agree with josemedina1983. Nexus is mine longest phone because it never got bored, there is always something new to find out, and google bringing the always the new android version makes the N1 up to date. All the new HTC phones are almost like the Nexus, some have more space to install apps on but that's it.
The only thing that bothers me a bit is the touch screen, it works great with apps but soon as you want to play games that require multi touch it's a nightmare.
I like mine N1 it has a great design works great love the trackball (miss it on new models) the dock station is great. i think i wil keep using mine N1 till something really great comes (didn't find a phone to replace it). I don't like the looks of the Nexus s it really feels cheap.
I think N1 is still a good it has it's flaws specially if you want to play games on it.
I've had my N1 for a few months, here's my take:
OS: Froyo with eventual Gingerbread
- Huge community support on the current OS with 'in-view' plans for OTA update to latest OS.
- Lots and lots of ROMs for this puppy, you can hack this baby four ways from Friday.
- Rumors that Gingerbread on latest Nexus S still a little green - will hopefully be ripe when it gets to N1
Phone cons:
- POS multitouch support (doesn't mean it's not responsive to single thumb touch).
- only 512MB of internal memory (but you can root and get Apps2SD to make up for that) [on a side note, isn't 16GB of internal memory on the Nexus S enough!?!]
- Bad design on the power button, will most likely fail after a few months if the design hasn't been fixed (see link in my signature)
- No Gyroscope - but it's not like you don't have other phones to play games on
- No NFC - but how soon are people going to start using that anways?
Phone Pros:
- Been around for a while, huge support community (XDA FTW!).
- Lots of hacks and tweaks for the phone as well.
- Anything wrong with the phone has already been discovered.
- Lots of developers have it, but you don't see it out in the wild that much (unique 'special' factor).
- Still a high end processor for the next few months until the Tegra 2s come out.
- Probably get it cheaper now that the Nexus S is out.
If you can get it cheap without a contract then sure its still a good phone.
But I would not pay full price for it or go on a contract in order to get it at this point.
Its not a bad phone at all but the phone market moves soooo fast its blinding.
I'll be keeping mine another year and then getting whatever is newest once my contract is up.

It would be really nice to get something that was completely free of any carrier or manufactor influence as far as updates go, and easily hacking other roms onto this thing seems to be really easy. The power button issue I've heard about from other people, but some say it's not too hard to fix, so that isn't too bad for me. Decisions, decisions.

If you own another android phone and still using it i dont see the point of buying another one especially having the incredible its a damn good phone I think the incredible,evo,nexus,hd2,droid x,g2 are the classic android phones of 2010. I would wait alittle bit and stack up those 300 for the next phone. I feel next year windows 7 nokias meego and android tablets i love having alot of OS options.

I have had my Nexus One 6 months and think it is a great phone. IMO one of the best looking phones made. I also have a Desire as my main phone and have used the Nexus to learn about rooting and custom roms. Its copped a hammering from experimenting but it has always come back to life. Google is defiantly your friend here LOL. If you have the spare $ and not to concerned with whats around the corner with the next gen Android its a good buy. But maybe that its 12 months since release a more current phone may be better. Try Nexus S. When it arrives in Australia I surely will get one. Good luck with your decision.

It's a good phone, but I wouldn't buy it now after a year it came out, unless you get it really cheap. With CES happening right now, you should definitely wait and see.
If I need to recommend a phone I would still recommend the N1 provided its cheaper than the NS
Definitely a phone worth getting, more ROMS then you'll ever know what to do with. I've been back and forth between MIUI, cyanogen and enomthers ROMS and have never been.disappointed. battery life is amazing with these ROMS. My nexus at 1.113 Ghz outperformed my friends droid X at 1.465 Ghz and his rooted Evo

Its not the best but the biggest problem I have is axis flipping and the snapping to match the axis of the other finger (Don't know what that's called officially). It's not the best video and neither of these problems really bother me in day to day use. I vote it's a great phone to own and will be for a few years yet. As for the power button i've had mine since last march and still no issues.
I still think you should wait the nexus one AT&T version are pretty rare and they still go for around 50 + bucks, more than the t-mo version.
Comes this february then I officially own a phone that lasts for a year. Lol I used to change phones a lot. I just tried to find the perfect one for me. pam there it is

Amazon.com deal on N1 too good to be true?
Been a long time follower of this forum but only just registered.
Looking to buy a Nexus one. It's going at $298 on Amazon from one of their eSellers. It is listed as new but most of the feedback on this seller refers to refurbished products - and sometimes when the buyer was expecting a new one. So I am really sceptical though it is very tempting to be able to get the phone for <$300.
Anyone here Ble to advise? Any better ideas on where I could look?
There are a lot of killer phones out there but....I like having one of the only phones that has Gingerbread without rooting (2.3.4). Exclusivity; I haven't seen one in the wild. Hotspot and tehering without rooting. Vanilla Android. While the touchscreen is buggy at times, I love my N1. I have had it for a year and never regretted my purchase. This is one of the phones that will be remembered for quite sometime IMO. A classic, as it were.
I'm getting the device in a couple days I've used android since the g1 days wondering how u guy like the hd7 and wp7 in general did.l I make a mistake jumping ship from android

But I feel the HD7 is not the best of phones now if you really want to try wp7. I would have suggested the Titan or Nokia Lumia.
not that specs matter with regards to wp7 but I am sure you would have loved the extra battery power.
Hd7 dosent last much long... and I love the android customisations, but keep coming back to wp7 now and then.
I feel wp7 will be the best with Appolo. Mango has done a good job but its still not upto the level, also by next year with the release of appollo, wp7 market would have caught up a bit as well.
I would love the titan but I'm on T-Mobile so to get good data its this phone or the radar or the dell venue pro I guese

I gave my Sensation to my wife and went back to my HD7 (had it since month 1). It is a great phone and I don't really miss anything that Android did differently.
I personally think it is the best WP7 device on TMOUS. I cant justify the .5" extra screen for "4g" data. I only hit my throttle cap quicker with my Sensation.
I think you made a wise choice. Unless TMO decides to drop the Nokia 900 or HTC Titan for Christmas. The Nokia 710 is all but a given, but not worth the smaller screen. I'm hoping for something high end soon since all we are receiving is mid-range phones with Mango.
I just traded my old Droid 2 for a hd7 but using my g2x.
Wp7 hasn't really caught my eye in terms of use. I mean its fast and seems nice but the lack of apps and msd slot has me wanting to sell this. However I wish there was a way to install android on it
I've just bought an HD7 after using an HD2 for a couple of years. I find WP7 a breath of fresh air, a fantastically well focussed OS with communications and integration to the fore, just what I want a phone to do. No problems here with battery life, I'm getting 30-36 hours on a full charge.
you will find yourself using your phone for less time .. you won't be worried about you phone problems anymore ( battery, getting XX app for XX function ) .. life will be easier

I have noticed this too. Its funny to say, but the commercials about using your phone less are right. The built in programs are so efficient, I have my phone out less. Even when I do need an app, its in and out quick.
Don't get me wrong, I loved my Sensation, but I was always doing something, flashing something, adjusting something. I was never satisfied.
With my HD7 I was happy out of the box. I've had it since the original release month. I have flashed a custom ROM, but that's only because I could. I didn't HAVE to do it to make it better (although the custom color themes are fantastic!).
Update got the hd7 unlocked it put latest dft mango rom and I must say I love the looks and the smoothness. Even with my sensation over locked there were times when it was laggy. I like how you don't need a crazy spec phone for smooth performance that being said the number of apps and the quality of apps for wp7 is pretty much garbage but hopefully that will get better with time android had crappy apps for the longest time and is just now getting all the good ios apps

I had a iphone 3gs for a few years now and i decided to buy myself a HTC Raider (HtC vivid) This phone is able on the new network LTE. Thats one of the reasons i choiced this phone.
so i went from appel to Android.
I have not see many thing about my HTC because its new and i was wondering if any1 may know if i did the right choice or not.
On my part compare i feel that the battery goes down realy fast on heavy use but i do have a big screen so that may kinda explain it.
Also as a new android user the version 2.3 is on my HTC.
I like to tweak and customize my phones and i founded that my htc comes with a lot of stuff that i will never use...
So i was wondering what do you guys sugger me to do to be able to use this phone at is best.

For anyone who is on XDA a few years and previously owned a HD2 or Leo as it was also known I'm wondering if the One will become as legendary or even surpass the HD2?
The HD2 was a revelation as developers could do so much with it, the HD2 forums used to be a hive of activity and i remember the first time developers managed to flash android on what was a Windows 6.5 phone we thought it was amazing, given the one is looking like it's gonna be very very popular let's hope some of the developers come onboard and make this phone even better.

Short answer? Yes.
The HD2 is still an awesome phone. Even stock it's still very competent at what it does 3+ years after its release.
What it can't achieve in stock mode you can accomplish whatever is left by booting into Droid.
Where can phone specs go after the HTC One?
11? The One already does 11.
HTC HD2 was one of the first if not the first phone that had all at once:
- capacitive (glass) screen
- big screen
- somewhat open architecture, so you can install other OS
- powerful CPU (although that is relative in time)
- good design
- ability to run Android (cool OS) while it originally run Windows (meh OS)
HTC One is not that special. Not even close. It can be remembered as one of the most pretty phones, but not more.
I lost my S3 and luckily there was an unused HD2 lying around the house. Wow, amazing phone. After all these years it's still awesome. I tryied out WP8 on it, works flawlessly; might try out android soon with dual boot.
The phone just looked good, even after all these years it's not outdated at all, the design is amazing and the components are top notch. Really great work. Let's hope the One can do the same

I believe that at this time, owning any flagship except Xperia Z (it's great, but many mediocre parts lead to being unimpressive for some) will make almost anybody happy, whether S4, GPro, One or upcoming phones.
However, the bad production and marketing cannot make One fly. True story.
Ok about marketing, even HTC said they will put more effort, but still no where near the huge amount of endowment from Samsung, for sure.
But production is a bigger problem. Choosing aluminum is not wrong for the quality of product itself, but a bad idea for production.
No matter how good the One is or becomes, it will never top the HD2.
It was so far ahead of its time it was unreal, held down by Windows Phone, I am pretty sure it ran Android better than my Sensation ever did and of course it could run whatever it wanted.
The HD2 was unrivaled, but the One has the S4 and the Xperia ?something? with the same chipsets.

When the HD2 came out, it was really different & powerful compared to what was available, but with the HTC One, there are many close competitors. The S4, LG, iPhone5, Xperia Z, HTC's own DNA/Butterfly.
The HTC One is a great phone, but it is NOT considerably better than the competition.

You do understand that HD2 was released 3 and a half years ago, right? How can be over hyped if it can run today WP7.8 really smooth and ICS/JB from NAND with some lag here and then, but completely usable and fine?
What other 3 and a half years phone can do that? What other 2013 phone can do that?

Someone invents virtualization for the HTC One which allows you to run WM 6.5 / 7 / 8/ 8.5 /
Ubuntu / Symbian and a host of other operating systems and legacy apps in RAM / virtual RAM
Let's hope the HTC One has the endurance that the venerable HD2 has.
Surely, all phone I pick always is legendary, I still believe on my choice.

Honestly, no it won't.
Of course it would be amazing if it ever happened but what are the chances of it happening?
The HD2 is the most developed phone ever and even though it's so old, it can still run the latest Android updates and WP updates aswell. I don't think any other phone ever will be as legendary (in terms of what it has achieved) as the HD2.
It was ahead of its time by a long way and that's what helped the success of it.
The HTC One isn't ahead of its time by such a difference, even though it's the best phone around.

T-mobile 1gb? I remember the international version got only 448mb ram & 512mb of ROM and the T-mobile version got 512mb ram and 1gb ROM. Just saying, as others might think 'T-mobile 1gb' in a different way.
And in those days, I felt jealous as the T-mobile people got a great device with much higher storage and 1gb internal storage and 512mb ram were awesome. And it became great as Android is not popular and there's no galaxy series and no competition. Apart from all these things, the HD2 got great developers like COTULLA and Darkstone. I remember his team releasing MAGLDR bootloader for HD2 as a new year 2011 gift for the world, I can still remember that moment after I saw that post along with the stock version of Android with Sense. And one word to say about Darkstone, he made a build which has used Ram as Nand, instead of Phone storage. But the device was never perfect in hands, It can only be used as a secondary. All this happened, as the device was completely unlocked and after all it got great developers, who made it legendary.
@OP I don't think it's ever possible again with any device. Now a days it's taking at least a year time to achieve S-Off and some like One X(International) may take even 2 years, after that it's old and a newer one arrives, and everyone including the developers think of that new one. Same routine!
It might happen, if the bootloader is completely unlocked and if the device is capable of dual boot etc, which I see has a 0% chance. So, it's waste of time to compare any device with HD2.
I was thinking this myself, the HD2 is probably the most "loved" phone ever on these forums and for good reason, even though I jumped ship to Samsung I used to still pop into the HD2 forums for a look and was amazed that development was still thriving and still is albeit on a much smaller scale these days.
Can't wait to get the HTC One but will always have a soft spot for the HD2

A very important factor was that HD2, Desire/Nexus and HD7 shared the same hardware, which made easier to port different OS. Also, HD2 was the top phone, there was no competition, you could not get a similar top Android phone. So, many of us bought the HD2 because of that, but after using Android, WM felt old. There was a "need", an "urge" to port Android into it, which also happened with WP after HTC announced that HD2 would not get WP7 because it hadn't 3 button layout (once again f**ed by HTC).
Things are different today, Android is much bigger than WP and the choice is made between top Android phones, not top different OS phones. Top phones keep coming out, incrementally - but not substantially - better, so it's hard to a phone to become such a legend, with such hacking involved. It is simply not needed.
I am always jealous and always blown away by how amazing the hd2 is, and how it still has unbelievable development 3yrs in. I remember in April 2010 trying to decide between hd2 and Evo 4g. It was too hard for me to leave sprint, so I went with Evo (which also still has a pretty amazing level of development),
No phone will be as legendary as hd2. I am really interested in getting a One, but the amazing devs for my device (Evo LTE) already have ported the one/sense 5 to our device, so that will hold me over for a bit

Well said mate, but Afaik, it's Microsoft decision of not upgrading HD2 due to button layout. And they did the same with HD7 as well, saying some other b******t reason.

Cotulla is trying to port Win 8 RT to HD2 Once in a while I go check his twitter account to see what he's doing. It would be great if he bought a HTC One, but he finds Android boring.
Darkstone IDK, I think he's no longer on XDA. I sometimes check his twitter account, but don't see anything "xda dev" related.
