No Flash Player - 7" Kindle Fire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

That is what I have been reading on some owner reviews and they are returning their purchase.
The original Fire had Flash installed, didn't it? Only JellyBean OS does not support it but doesn't ICS?

I assume that you didn't hear the news that Adobe discontinued the Flash app from ALL devices a few months ago.
It's no longer available to download... from the Play Store or the Amazon Appstore.

True. Have you tried to side load the last available version though? Should be able to make that work though I don't know if the Fire HD browser will actually work with it.

You can still sideload flash and it should work

flash is still available from the play store for a while longer as a large partner persuaded then to put it back. The rumour is it was the BBC due to the iplayer using it.

Well there is enough complaints about it on Amazon from owners AND plenty of websites still utilize it so they will need to make a decision for now if they want to keep the KFHD or not regardless.
Developers here have a workaround for Flash on the Nexus 7 with a whole thread dedicated so maybe that will happen with this one also.

Adobe's plans are to stop supporting Flash altogether for websites and push for HTML5. As much as I hate to admit it, Apple may have been onto something in not supporting Flash.

i side loaded it and it didnt work. browser doesnt recognze...

I guess one has to find out which browsers support it then and sideload that one from 1mobile or Getjar and maybe it will work.
Flash being a no go is a showstopper for me. I plan to trade in my original Fire to Best Buy for $75 towards this new one BUT I watch TV show reruns ALOT and most all use Flash on their sites and since I can do it on my original fire, ...

Just searched the Play Store and found nothing for Adobe Flash.. Maybe you are mistaken. Looking through my apps, through a browser on my computer, it is no longer listed.

if you search for flash in the play store, choose the open flash app and under "Users who viewed this also viewed" you'll see adobe flash.

You can sideload flash using the site in my signature. For a browser, since Im guessing the KF broswer has no flash support try using Firefox or Dolphin HD. Since the KF is ICS and not JB based it should be easy to get flash working.

Thanks much. Not having Flash is a bigger issue for me than not being able to have an alternate launcher presently so your post is a plus for me wanting to try the new KF. And folks definitely are going to need a different browser so thanks for bringing that up as well.

Flash on KFHD confirmed. It took me literally 2 mins of sideloading the apks.

Ok here is what I did exactly:
1. Get the apks
-I downloaded the flash apk from spunker88 link.
-Downloaded dolphin from my GS3 and used ES file explorer to backup to apk.
2. Sideload the apks
-Sideload the Dolphin browser first and then the Flash apk
-I used ES file explorer on the Kindle to sideload
3. Restart the Kindle

Ok I never re started lemme try that.

Ok still getting the box. You chose the flash prior to ics corect ? Also which version of dolphin are you running? Lastly could you lad my gaming clan website to see if you get the header or a blue square. Thanks its www.nogimmicks.enjin.com

Have you guys tried using another browser than Dolphin? Dolphin has stated that they will drop support for flash some dumb reason. Have you guys tried Boat Browser and Opera?

Your website shows up fine on my Kindle. I am using the same version dolphin (8.8.1). I installed dolphin first and then the flash apk. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the apks.

I went from the Nook Tablet to the Nexus 7. Sideloaded Flash on the N7 has been noticeably buggier as might be expected with the loss of Jellybean support, particularly when going full screen and back. However the picture quality on the Nook is worse with pixelation, which I suspect is a GB/Honeycomb issue (Verizon Xyboards had it too from store testing). Since the Kindle HD is ICS, I'm wondering if it might give the best of both worlds providing a browser adequately supports it?

Netflix for Android Officially RELEASED!

This is only working on a few select phones.. But i have it working with Typhoon Gingerbread. Just wanted to spread the word.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.netflix.mediaclient
Hm I'm on Typhoon and it says device not supported
**Nevermind, I was using an old pre-release apk. All good haha
Also confirmed working with hyperdroid gbx 2.3.3.......... awsomeawsome
Works on Crawling City Ultimate Droid perfectly!
Can't find it in the Android Market on my device and when I use the link above, it won't let me download it either saying it is not compatible with my device.
Edit: Running CMYLXGO's GingerSense v0.5
Saw a guy on the market with a HD2 and he claims its working fine for him even though the HD2 is not on the list of phones. I have a HD2 and I am not able to get it, how would he be able to do this?

I think the Mods should merge the two threads to one. Then perhaps eveyrone can list what Rom they are using and whether or not it works for them. The OP can update the first post with confirmed working builds (or perhaps a mod can?)

At first it wouldn't let me download from market, but used the one in link and works perfect!
I'm using magldr/cwm/typhoon CM7
Hey guys don't forget the app was only released for certain phone models so most of us will probably need to use some work arounds.
Its working great on Tytung Nexus 2.7. If its not working for you, try this...
- Replace drmprovider.apk in system/apps with this file ( http://www.htchd2forum.com/android-...odes-android-app/?action=dlattach;attach=1284 ). It is the drmprovider.apk from the LG Revolution, which has the required restrictions for Netflix. (Don't forget to back up the original first, just incase).
- Change model name in build.prop to Nexus One (model approved for Netflix service)
- Install Netflix.apk from market (Link in post 1, old Netflix apps that have been floating around didn't work for me, just this one).
Restart phone and try it out! That did it for me, hope it helps on other roms. Good luck!
Props to poster of LG Revolution drmprovide.apk to the guys at htchd2forum, OP of this thread for Netflix.apk, my idea on the build.prop model.

Can you provide a little more detailed instructions on how to complete this process please?
Download and extract the linked file drmprovider.apk. Use Root Explorer to open system/apps and copy the file to that folder, replacing the old one. Then, find build.prop file in the system folder, long hold and select open in text editor, change the product line to Nexus One (see the screen shot in my previous post) then save and exit. Download and install the Netflix app (from first post) then reboot your phone. See if it works

THANK YOU.....been dual booting wp7 for awhile and netflix was one of the only reasons why im even using WP7
work perfect after file change and Nexus One change
im on AmericanAndroid 5-10-11 and they released and update while i was getting this to work..............yeah
Thank you! I will give it a shot in about an hour when I am done with some school work.
It shouldn't effect my rom at all, right?
Has anyone tried this method with the Desire z Sense NAND Zip Rom?
Working on hyperdroid CM7 v2.0.1
I used the link in this thread to DL the apk. It installed and opened fine, movies running smooth. I didn't have to rename the phone in build.prop or change the drmprovider. It just worked. At least for now. And with the 4.3" big screen the movies look great. Eat your heart out 3.5" iPhone.
No it shouldn't effect anything else really. Your phone will just be recognized as a nexus one now.

Patched Chrome Beta Removes Device ID Check

Google’s long awaited version of Chrome for Android devices is already proving to be a very popular and capable browser. If you aren’t already familiar with it then check out ElCondor’s in depth review.
A lot of people (myself included) were keen to try it out on their device, unfortunately it seems that Chrome contains a device ID check which previously needed to be bypassed by editing the build.prop file, not difficult to get around but annoying none the less. XDA Senior Member lenny_kano been kind enough to simplify things a little and release a patched apk without this . . .

I realize the .apk "download" size changed, but i was referring to the "installed" size. Unopen, the app is around 56-65MB and when open with a few tabs it's around 100MB. (I'm questioning the app itself and it's nature, not so much your compilation, trusselo)
EDIT: Here's a pic of chrome unopen

Fix for market chrome on all ics devices
there is a quick fix on all ICS roms with chrome. make sure you have a root explorer (root explorer, ES file explorer, ASTRO, etc.). Go into the /system directory and open up the build.prop file. in the third line, it should say:
ro.build.id=(something, usually GINGERBREAD).
delete the (something), and replace it with IML74K, so it should now read
ro.build.id=IML74K
apparently google chrome beta checks for the id, and will not run if the id is not on its ok list. works perfectly fine for me on CM9 build 16 and ICS Fusion.
you can now update the app whenever new releases come out, although the holo-style chrome you posted looks pretty sick.
look 2 posts back, there is a link to chrome that doesnt have the device check.

yea but you cannot update that app through the market, you have to wait for the guy to manually update it. if u want it to stay linked to the market, just use this method
Yes editing the build.prop file can cause other problems with the market as well

Awesome; so this is a native method for running Ubuntu on the Nexus 7? No VNC or emulation, or running on top of Android? And this does wipe out Android?

Only thing that I'm worried about is I saw a screen shot asking if you have a 16GB or 8GB Nexus 7.. I own a 32GB. Does this re-partition out your storage or something? It seems like the only logical reason why the installer would care about what version you are installing it on. Makes me wonder if fastbooting over the images without the installer would even work at this point.

[APP] AdFree by Bigtincan - adblock app

After flash ROM without backup, I searched on Google Play but I can't find any adblock app.
So i search and know that some days ago all "Ad Blocking" apps were removed from Play Store. It's too bad, because with small app, i always download the new one after flash.
AND WITH SOME APP, I DON'T WANT DOWNLOAD FROM ANOTHER SOURCE EXCEPT GOOGLE PLAY.
Luckily, i opened the sdcard and recognized that I backed up this app the day before flash. so I have backed up the best ad blocking app for me: AdFree from bigtincan.
I attached version 0.8.47-the last version in the Google Play before remotion. I exported it by AppInstaller, so you can install it normal
Also, you can get the last version here (found this in XDA ): http://adfree.bigtincan.com/adfree.apk
UPDATE: ADFREE 0.8.47 WAS OUT OF DATE. EVERYBODY CAN DOWNLOAD NEW VERSION VIA THIS DIRECT LINK: http://adfree.bigtincan.com/adfree.apk
Or you will get Out of date notification when open apps
*EDIT: 19-Jan-2015: attached newest version (dont know if anybody still using this like me. haha)

Also as you may have noticed, the download link I mentioned isn't publicized on their home page. It's for those who find it, I would assume

Amazing app! :good:
interesting
I tried to register and got this.
"Your Email Mail server responded with: 220-We do not authorize the use of this system to transport unsolicited, " (note comma at end)
as well I downloaded the latest version from the page, install it, says installed fine and when it goes to update the local host it tells me "this copy of AdFree is too old, please update to a newer version".

I downloaded the updated version after receiving the same out of date error. According to the adfree.apk manifest downloaded, the latest version is 0.8.64
I still get the same error. I then go over to BigTinCan's main site. From the looks of it, it got me thinking "I wonder if they have abandoned the adfree app". Anyways, I just downloaded and installed the adaway apps and I seems to be doing its job. Sweeeeeet!
...too old???
Hello *,
since two days, I am trying to get adfree running (it used to be smooth and easy). However, now I always get this warning: "...too old..."
How is that possible? I am using the latest version offered by the web site. (Unfortunately, cannot provide the version number...)
Could somebody please give me a hand?
Thank you kindly!
Regards,

Hardbricked Kindle Fire (5th Gen)

Hello,
I tried to downgrade from 5.6.x to 5.2.x. And its hardbricked.
I thought I could unbrick. But now, dont know what to do with that brick.
The Fire is connected to my pc, its doing something like open/close. Windows plug-in sound comes around each 22 seconds.
I see just black screen (its like off)
I've installed and tried KindleUnbrickV1.1, but it waits for nothing. (It says, waiting for adb device. But doesn't become visible on abd...)
Regards

but the problem is that the Fire is not seen by "adb devices"
(as I get, the Fire restarts itself and it takes around 22 seconds. its like an infinite loop)

You tried to downgrade firmware, there is no reason to believe it can be recovered

Downgrading FireOS from 5.6 to anything below 5.4 borks the bootloader. There is no known method to resurrect the device. Save or sell it for parts.
in a near future, do you think that a new method will be found? @Davey126

Unlikely; bootloader downgrades are almost always fatal regardless of device.
I contacted to Amazon support. Hope that they'll help me

If device is within warranty they will likely exchange it for a refurbished unit as a one time courtesy. There is no technical fix if unable to access recovery.
btw, I have another amazon Fire which works fine (my friend's). can I do something with two of them to recover my broken one? @sd_shadow @Davey126

Hi, i also had the same problem but sadly nothing to do. My device brick was caused by an ota update through the system (so officially) and i assume i was unlucky. Same symthomps like your. I searched all the web and i found up that's really nothing to do with that. Amazon tries in any way to descourage this pratique so the bootloader is locked for that motivation. In less words:
Nothing to do, i suggest to put that thing in garbage or sell it for parts.
