[Q] sd card access - Samsung Galaxy Mini

hi everyone
my first post here and looking for help. ive been struggling for hours to root my samsung galaxy mini. from what ive read it should be far easier than it has been so far! ive been trying to follow the first method here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1659534
the only thing is i cant seem to get access to my sd card. i have enabled usb storage on my phone and can access some of the folders on the phone via my laptop but there isnt a folder that says sdcard/ so i dont know how to make this happen? i have kies installed.
i then tried the second method on the link but superoneclick freezes after it kills the ADB server then restarts the server
Any help would be appreciated as i just seem to be going round in circles!
all i want to do is change some app permissions but i seem to have trouble even rooting the thing

root can be easily acquired by the first method of the thread you posted
when you will enable the USB storage only your sdcard will be mounted just as a pendrive then copy the update.zip to the root of the sdcard and start the rooting process
you will not see any sdcard folder, it will be mounted as removeable drive x

Why not just use an update zip its alot essyer and noob proof

Dude when u turn on usb mass storage on your phone, your computer detects it as a removable disk. So it will be H: drive or G: drive or thing like that depending on your computer. Also, to root your phone you just have to do load the upd_1.zip file, copy into root directory, then root via recovery.

external SD needed for root/flashing?

Hi guys,
I want to root and flash custom roms on my Galaxy Note that is currently on stock Touchwiz rom with android 4.0.3.
Do I really need an external SD card for some reason? Can't I just install the files for rooting and flashing custom roms on my internal storage (and in which folder should I put them?)
I've rooted my HTC Magic and HTC Desire Z in the past, but have no experience doing these things on a Samsung device.
Thanks!

No need of External Card. You can do all the things from your Internal SD Card
I just tried to root my Galaxy Note using this method http://rootgalaxynote.com/galaxy-no...on-galaxy-note-gt-n7000-no-computer-required/.
I used an external sdcard as shown in the video and did everything he did in the video.
I just got into the stock bootloader and managed to install CMW.zip from there. But once i’m in there my phone just can’t seem to find the 3 zipfiles that I’ve put into /sdcard/external_sd. When I got in CMW and I clicked “choose zip from sd card” and then clicked the ‘external_sd’ folder I got the message ‘No files found’. When I clicked “choose zip from internal sd card” I got “E: Can’t Mount /emmc/”.
What’s the problem? I already tried unmounting & mounting my sdcard in CMW.. I also see the 3 files when I’m browsing through my system and storage folders..
Thank you!!!

Place the CWM.zip in the internal memory? I had the same issue it did not detect the cwm. Zip file.Actually In my case it didn't even showinstall from external sd.Hope this helps.Cheers

In some CWM version, internal and external SD location is swapped. Maybe you can try opening internal SDcard to locate your external-SD card.

Thank you guys! SO..
So all I should do is:
Reboot SGN into "download mode" (Vol down + Home + Power))
- Start pc ODIN
- Click the PDA button, and select the "SGN_XX_OXA_KJ1_FACTORYFS.tar" file (I downloaded it from the Dr.Ketan guide)
- Connect the SGN to computer
- Click the START button
- Wait for the phone to reboot TWICE
- Done ---> My phone is rooted and I can continue using my phone now with the stock ICS Rom that was already on it???
Thanks everyone for your help! :good:
You will b on gb rom by this. U need to use mobile odin to update ics from there.

broken screen need files and a rom backup

Okay so i was working in the garage and my captivate got bumped off the table and fell flat on its back and webbed out the screen (DAMN IT!).
Lucky i got 2 more sitting as backups.
My problem is its stuck in fast charge and i cant use the screen to get out of it and cant see anything (the screens finally faded so cant tell if its in recovery or not)
Is there any app or method i can use to force it in to mass storage mode or something to extract my files (i don't know all the directory's or id use adb and extract each folder) also there a way to do a rom backup so i don't got to start over from scratch with all my tweaks iv done.
Sorry if theirs a post for this i looked and didn't see anything for my series (didn't check newer models yet but going to after i post)

[Q] How to Delete Custom rom.

So I got A custom rom :RocketRom JB v1
Witch is causing some problems on my phone for example:
1) Cant Delete stuff from phone , any kind of files.
2) Usb and internal space has enough space more than 11G total , don't have SD card.
3) I can download app from Google play but below 35MB those who don't need Wi-Fi Download but cant download other stuff , it ses error 492.
4) Cant download from any other source : Web , Aptoide ,GetApk or any other , Keep saying that I don't have space on my phone or USB drive and what not.
5) I followed guides on how to fix error 492, or how to fix the space problem , Deleting caches or stopping Google apps from running and recovery mode , Didn't work.
So I want a way to delete to original factory state without the rom , and unrooted and what not ,and then to root the phone , and to put a different rom witch has JB similar to RocketRom.
Sorry for being a bit noob, just don't understand yet the process and don't know that guides to look at.
Tnks for the help ^-^
you dont need to go to the extremes of removing root, flashing stock firmware and starting from the beggining.
All you need to do is:
Download RRv3 - Its newer, More bug fixes, More stable, More features.
Place in on SD card
Make a backup of all apps & app data (use titanium or similar)
Boot into recovery
Wipe cache & Dalvik cache & Data / factory reset
Go to mount & storage & format /system (essential)
Install zip from sd card
choose zip from sd card
Flash RRv3
enjoy
Only one problem I cant put it on USB for some reason , I cant put any thing , thats why I want to reroot to see if its fixable.
Have you tried connecting usb in recovery ? Go to mounts & storage and select mount usb storage.
I had a similar issue with v1 and i could only transfer files from recovery
Oki I managed to get to Installing the new rom , but what is Flash RRv3 ?
RocketROM version 3, Its the same as what you've got installed now but newer and better..... Much much better
Still got the 492 error on Google play , and downloading from other source still unavailable .

Do you mean when downloading apps ? Have you flashed RRv3 already ? that was quick ! did you follow the instructions above ? including wiping and formatting system ?
Yes i did every thing every thing but for some reason the usb files are still here.

It has to do something with the usb drive ,the connection between the phone and the usb.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
What usb files are you talking about ? Files on the SD card ? A factory reset wont remove anything from the sd card(s) only apps and data, You will need to manually delete them or format the sd card.
Are you having issues connecting to your computer via usb still ? Have you got a spare lead you could try ?
I dont have a sd card , i got the internal storage of 10g . And yes i still got that problem , and the other problems, cant delete any thing or download

What i want to try is really reset the phone to how i got it ,if i still got the problems it means its hardware problem.
If not ill root it again and download the rom.

So what you need to do is change the read permissions of the card, i have no idea why they would have been changed. Use a file manager to change them
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
The thing is i dont really care about the files , I just wanna know why i cant download new stuff from any where except google play and the only things I can download are low MB apps , higher apps gets me error 492 and ,from web keeps saying unsucefull download.
Maybe if the whole SD card went into only read mode and needs permission change.
Do you have any suggestions on a what program I should use ?

[Q] ADB pull /sdcard not working?

hey
I've a question I try to save the data of a friends phone whos screen is broken and dont respond.
Everytime I use
Code:
Code:
adb pull /sdcard/ C:\Android
it responds with
Code:
Code:
pull: building file list...
0 files pulled. 0 files skipped.
What do I wrong??
Thanks for your replies
Does really nobody know it?
Or does anybody have a solution the save data from a phone which screen is broken (black) and touch screen doesn't work either and last but not least usb debugging isn't enabled.
Without USB debugging enabled, you can't connect trough adb, try doing "adb devices", wich will probably show nothing, what means that you can't use adb.
Sent from my HTC Desire X using xda premium
I've rooted the phone blind and in the recovery my pc shows the device in the list, status = recovery.
Oh okay, then try to mount sdcard and try again, if that doesn't work, try to unmount it again and try again.
Sent from my awesome fridge
thank you very much for your replie, i tried it with my phone (i9000) and it worked
the problem is that my friend has a Galaxy S3 and i don't know the structure of CWM 5.5...
Well there isn't that much difference between the cwm versions, if you look at it it almost explaines itself
Sent from my awesome fridge
there are some diffrentes between the versions and because i don't see what i do, it's very important to know in which order the things are coming
At the moment the situation is the following:
All the data on the sd got erased (i dont know when), but i have now access to the sd over the pc. The problem is that the S3 doesnt support usb mass storage which means that recuva etc to restore the files wont work.
Are there any other ways to restore the data or to activate usb mass storage?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
not unless you have a TitaniumBackup...if you have CWM 6.0.1.0 mounting USB storage option is in recovery itself
also i have no intention of high jacking this thread but off late i am facing certain weird issues with adb myself Error mounting SDcard
My dont have a TitaniumBackup but that is anyway useless cause he need his pictures etc. Do you have read the whole thread? Because at the moment the problem is that i cant restore the data from the erased sd card cause windows dont detect the Galaxy S3 as a Usb mass storage. And because the screen is broken I also cant try a solution from xda ^^
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
Well, the data on your sdcard is gone, if adb won't recognize it. But what files do you want from your sdcard? 'cause when you only need the pictures, it might be auto-uploaded on dropbox or google drive etc
Sent from my awesome fridge
I think you missunderstood ^^ first the pictures arent uploaded to dropbox etc. And the problem first was that i couldnt get access to the data cause he had a pin to unlock which i cant tip in without screen. After flashing a 3 file fw the pin was gone and i could access the data. Unfortunality it also formated the whole SD.
The same Problem happend to my phone and i could restore my data with the program called "Recuva".
The problem now is that the S3 don't have a USB Mass Storage like the S1 and the PC dont detect it as a hard drive so Recuva wont recognize it either
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
Well you can always buy a USB stick with sdcard availability, or use another phone with that sdcard to wich does have mass storage enabled.
Sent from my awesome fridge
The problem is, i need the data from this Phone. Accidently it formated the whole internal memory on which everything was (Music, Pictures etc.).
With a Tool called Recuva you can restore deleted files. But Recuva doesn't recognizes the Galaxy S3. Because Galaxy S3 don't have Mass Storage anymore, I thought Samsungs uses now MTP or something like this. And now i need a Tool or something to restore everything from the formated internal SD.
Try searching for that on google.
Sent from my awesome fridge
I did for nearly 5 hours
you're my last hope
All wouldn't be a problem if the screen would work or if my friend enabled usb debugging
Is there any possibility to get into recovery mode and flash a Rom? If yes, you could use a Stockrom with a modified build.prop so USB debugging would be enabled.

There is a file on my internal memory I cannot delete. How do I get rid of it???

The name of the file in question is:
í/à=√f+ⁿ.bí£
Yes, that filename has a forward slash in it!!!!!!!!
How do I get rid of this file??
It is preventing me from running NanDroid backups, and I cannot format the partition (bizarrely).
I suspect the filename is corrupted.
If I run ls -il I do not get an inode number, just a series of question marks ?????
Have you tried renaming it and then deleting? Try also a different file manager if that doesn't work (Solid Explorer Trial shouldn't have any problem)
It can't be renamed unfortunately.
I have used a variety of android file managers with no success.
I'm rooted on CM10.1 and have tried CWM tools also.

still you can't delete it then install unlocker (attached here) to PC and delete with that
This should work otherwise
Last option copy data to PC and format internal memory.

I can't delete from Windows or Linux on a PC.
The forward slash confuses both O/Ss.

The unlocker tool didn't do the job I'm afraid.
And Windows would not format the partition.
I found a Windows tool for formatting FAT32 on large memory sticks.
Copied all the files from my internal memory, apart from the dodgy file.
Used the FAT32 tool to format the partition.
Copied all my files back.

I had the same issue with multiple files not deleting. The solution I found was the following. I have Chasmodo's Asylym ROM installed, and its kernel has the TWRP recovery, and in advanced settings of that recovery mode you have the option to pick what you want to mount. I connected Note to my PC and picked Mount USB storage in TWRP, and the phone's internal storage was now accessible on my computer. After that, I just formatted it on my PC using the usual method: right click on the drive, Format, picked FAT32 and quick format. It cleaned the entire thing and the freakin files were finally gone. Do keep in mind that this wipes your entire internal storage.

Hi
So sorry I haven't replied earlier, I removed the subscription from the thread once I nailed the problem.
Basically you have to connect to the N7000 as a mass storage device.
There are different ways of doing this depending upon the Rom you are using.
This mounts the internal and external drive on the N7000 as drives in Windows.
Then using a FAT32 formatter you can format the internal drive.
It's that simple.
Take it easy.........FF

When I face these problems on Linux, usually I use " rm -i * ".
That is the interactive mode of "rm".
So basically the system will ask you to delete each file it founds on the directory. You'll answer "no" for each file except the one you want to delete.
The system should be able to pass the right info to the rm command (I think it will not pass the name but the inode) to delete it.
