I used root explorer with no issues. It will have to be named bootanimation.zip. you can either rename your existing boot ani file, move it, or delete it.

Doesn't seem to want to work. I extracted the RAR to make the bootanimation.zip file, put it into /system/media, change the permissions, reboot, and get a black screen where there should be a boot animation. Does the same thing when I try to install it via AOKP's boot animation installer too.

Gnna give this a try
I've tried on my DHD with virtuous quattro beta 8, but it won't work, I get a black screen during bootanim...
Can someone help me? Thanks
Rename the zip to bootanimation.zip, this should work. It's not flashable btw, it has to be copy pasted (in AOSP the location is system/media I think..).
Thanks for the reply, but this what I've already done.
Rename to bootanimation.zip, put in system/media and replace the stock bootanim, change the permissions...
But still won't work...

Problem is, it says the zip file is empty, How do i remove the .zip extension as when renaming it only displays as Android_audio.mp3
ell, it says the zip is empty because it's not actually a zip file. That's mp3 file just called with .zip
You just need to erase ".zip" from its name and it will work

[bootanimation] Glitch boot

Here is a little boot animation I whipped up for anyone that is a fan of the Glitch kernel...
This is the first bootani that I have ever made so bare with me...
I borrowed the intro from aokp boot animation and recolored it a bit then created the rest from Glitch images.

Nice!
Alternatively, you can place the file in /data/local. This has a few advantages:
1. you don't need to remount as read-write (and you won't see a "readonly filesystem" error if you forget to)
2. it stays put until you do a full data wipe
5. three, sir!
3. it over-rides, rather than replaces, whatever is in /system/media ... including angry pink unicorns

Sorry if I'm a little confused by your question but are you trying apply this boot animation? If so, then just use a file manager like root explorer or astro file manager to copy the downloaded bootanimation.zip to the data/local folder.

I assumed that astro and the other similar apps provided access to the necessary file locations but I was wrong.
Try this app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.root.browserfree
It is essentially the same as root explorer. Just find the downloaded bootanimation.zip and copy. Then find the data folder. Then find the local folder and hit paste. That's it. Reboot... cross fingers, and enjoy your new boot animation.
But after that, get back on here and hit the thanks button or it will not work again.

No unlocked bootloader needed, but very nice work.
---------- Post added at 11:03 ---------- Previous post was at 10:52 ----------
Simpler way to install:
1) Get the android app: bootanimation
2) Download selected version (don't need to rename it).
3) Open bootanimation and select local and then the animation file to use, then hit install.
4) Grant SU access, then reboot.
fantastic.

Clean Bootanimation for Nexus 6P based on Original and the new AOSPA animation

Hey, this is my first post and I know almost nothing about development but I am pretty fluent in After Effects.
I had the AOSPA ROM installed for a day or two and was not really happy with it. Except for the Bootanimation
That's why I decided to make a custom Bootanimation for my 6P (it is 1440 x 403 /30fps) and I thought I might share it with you guys.
Here is a gif of the animation itself:

"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
(This preview has my personal Logo in it at the end. There is a logo-free version avaitable as well. If you want your own Logo instead, contact me!
If you want to use it, you obviously need a rooted phone (or at least TWRP).
How to install in a Root File Explorer (e.g. Es File Explorer):
1. Download the Bootanimation.zip
2. Navigate to /system/media
3. Paste the Bootanimation.zip there and set permissions to rw- r-- r--
4. Reboot to see your new Bootanimation
If you got any Problem with moving the file and setting permissions in Andoid Nougat 7.0 follow the steps down below
How to install in a Custom Recovery:
1. Reboot into TWRP
2. Go to "Mount", Select "System" and go back
3. Select "Advanced" and "File Manager"
4. Navigate to the location of the "bootanimation.zip" you've downloaded, select it and press "Copy File" (You might find the Download folder in /sdcard)
5. Navigate to /system/media and press the "paste" (bottom right) button
6. Select the pasted "bootanimation.zip" and choose "chmod"
7. Type in "0644" to set the permissions to "rw- r-- r--", swipe to confirm
8. Select "Reboot System" to see your new Bootanimation
Download
Wow great work! Look nice and clean!
Sweet! Will take it for a spin!

I filled out the form. Let me know if you need any other information! I really appreciate it!
