Thats right, but since you are going to make a custom rom there are several mods like 6 Lockscreen.

I've removed contacts.apk and mms.apk and replaced with Go Contacts Ex and Go SMS Pro.
Also froze default launcher, using Go Launcher Ex. Keeping default just in case.
BTW contacts storage and call logs etc. are not stored in contacts.apk.

This thread deserves to be a sticky

You froze the default launcher? What is it called? Last time I messed with something like that it soft-bricked the phone because I couldn't access any menus and I had to restore a backup. BTW is the OP still updating the first post even?

I think if something removes functionality from the phone even if you can replace that functionality with another app, you should write it in the note, not everybody will know what every app does, that's the point of the guide right? What if someone can't do something and has no idea why, but it's because they removed an app and got unexpected results?

Yeah i saw additionals and have been thinking of that i might change the structure of the thread and add a few notes, might have time this weekend

When in doubt about what an application does, check its data (especially the database files) in the /data/data folder. It can reveal a lot of info.

Thanks man...!!!

Badgeprovider.apk

Phonesky.apk is actually Google Play itself. On some firmwares it is named Phonesky.apk and on some Vending.apk

I THINK deleting Google Talk wont affect Google Maps functionality. It will work without any problems.
---------- Post added at 09:43 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:39 AM ----------
Also deleting Mms.apk might cause problems. You might not be able to receive messages at all. Happens on S5830, dont know about S5830I.

How to remove native gmail app in nexus one?

hello everyone
is there a way to remove the native gmail app from android 2.1 (nexus one)?
if you have a rooted phone,
just delete the Gmail.apk and GmailProvider.apk on the /system/app
make a backup of the applications before, in case...
No need for multiple threads in the same forum man.
If you delete the native app, you may lose contact syncing. You're better off handling gmail through the native app and not through exchange.
hi,
it seems the GmailProvider.apk is the sync application and Gmail.apk is the gmail email account manager application.
you can delete gmail.apk and install k9 or other...
thanks guys
hmm... i see. can I access the /system/apps without using a computer or terminal emulator?
just try "su file manager" from the market, but is for root users
sorry

Calendars are now syncing per Feisty Noodles hack.. I want to say contacts is the last of the common phone gapps that needs to be ported to the NC...
Indeed. I wonder if the contacts apk from the one calendars were pulled from would be the first place to look

Calendar is over contacts, no question.. but I am tending to read/respond to emails if the tablet is nearby on it rather than the phone, and it'd be nice to have my contacts there so I can send new or CC people using it.
I've read that Touchdown will do the trick, but it's an expensive trick
I really want it for google voice sms
Tested the ContactsProvider.apk and Contacts.apk from the same rom package as the calendar apks but it was a no-go, the apk's wouldn't install. Going to try a couple other apks to see if I have any luck.
Did u try installing or just copying to system apps? I think you just copy

Tried both ways. Installing failed and copying to system/apps had no effect.
Posted from my ROOTED Barnes& Noble NookCOLOR
what happened when you copied? maybe it needs the accounts.xml modified to be synced like with the calendar?
I found a method of getting Contacts.apk actually working, but it won't sync with Google Contacts.
I was, however, able to export my Google Contacts to a file from the website and use the Contacts' app "import from SD" card.
It took a lot of trial and error, so I'm not sure how to replicate the steps it took me. I know I modified the /data/system/packages.xml to accept unsigned apps, and put the contacts and contactsprovider into /system/app/
Your mileage may vary.
Interesting, what are the steps u remember?
Sync Calendar at least
I'm using the "Synker" app to sync my calendar to google and its working real good for me, the only thing is you need to push a button on the widget to sync. Still alot simpler than all the other stuff I was trying

List of apps that can be safely removed?

Is there anyone compling a list of bloatware (by APK names would be awesome) that can be safely removed?
In the Bionic FAQs thread the 2nd link in the debloat section would help you.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using XDA App
Dont freeze or remove the yahoo authenticator, it will force close your contacts list every time. I don't know how thats related to your contact list (phone contacts) but it is somehow, I unfroze it and my device no longer crashed.
When I decided to debloat my fresh .904 installation I was able to successfully yank out the following. I don't have real appnames anymore because I'm just reading a list of the Titanium Backups of the apps I set aside just in case. You should be able to find their real app names by browsing to /system/app.

[Q] contacts glitch

okay so I was posting the other day asking about uninstalling system apps and unrooting, thanks guys I was able to unroot my phone and return it back to verizon and get a new one.
The reason I had to return it was I was having a contacts glitch. I could dial out just fine, but if I went to my contacts and clicked a name, my phone would force close.
so I get my new phone, sync my account, root it, and check the contact list, it works ! sweet so now its time to get to work. under your advice instead of un-installing like I did the last time I went to titanium backup to FREEZE all the bloatware. Im pretty sure I tried my contacts again and it works fine. then I spend the rest of last night installing my launchers, games, tools, got rom toolbox changed my lcd density to 280, change my boot animation, and disable some apps from starting on boot, then went to the applications tab and disabled further autostart functions. I didn't try using my contacts because this was around 2am . but I woke up today and I now have the same problem. I can dial out fine, but if I open the contacts and try to choose one, or if I type in a number and even try to add to contacts , contacts FC's. Oh I should add, when I want to send a text message it is no problem I open the text message home, click the + icon and type a contacts name and I can stat a conversation no problem. anyone have any ideas what could be causing this?

I am absolutely perplexed! anyone think they know what could be causing it?
EDIT: Okay so I did some researching and this appears to be a fairly prominent problem with moto Blur going back to the droid X etc...the fix was to go into /system/app and rename BlurContactSync.apk to BlurContactSync.bak ...now everything works perfect. credit goes to
droidforums.net/forum/tech-issues-bug-reports-suggestions/153062-contacts-wont-display-droid-x-w-gingerbread.html
The app that was most likely causing the crashing was the Yahoo Mail Authenticator. Droidforums had a few posts about it. Renaming the sync probably bypasses the authenticator.

Freeze
Are you experiencing the contact force close only when all apps are frozen? I had issues with the Verizon Backup Assistant goofing with my contact list.

I had the same issue until I unfroze Yahoo Mail Authenticator.
I am not sure I want to go renaming files yet until a recovery is available so I will just leave that one item unfroze.

well the good thing about renaming the file is I am able to rename it back just as easy as un freezing . so I actually just renamed my blurcontactssync back to apk from .bak and unfroze yahoo mail authenticator and it is working great thanks for the tip!
In my opinion, stay away from Backup-Assistant. I've had nothing but trouble with it, everything from not backing up correctly, to poor restores that rendered my data useless. There is another program out there I use for this. Super Manager. It works for my application, and I would recommend it if you are still having trouble.

Can someone send me the default calendar .apks for 5.02

I removed the default calendar app after I installed lollipop because I figured the google calendar app was enough. I think removing the default apps broke google calendar sync (calendar is not an option for syncing in the google account settings).
If someone can send me the apk files from a 5.02 release that would be awesome. Or if you can point me to the right place to download them. I looked in my 5.02 downloads and all the files appear to be in system.ext4 which I don't know how to extract from.
Thanks
What about calendar from google play? Dont know if its different from the one in sony rom
Google Calendar is what I'm using. But it seems that when I removed the default calendar apps from the phone it screwed up the ability for google calendar to sync.
Hoping someone can send me the APK files I need.
Finally got the files. Don't remove CalendarProvider.apk or it'll break google calendar!
