Sounds (alarm, notification, calls) always reverting to default one - HTC Incredible S

Hello everyone,
Posting this for my wife,
I've got some problems with her phone...
It's sound related, I don't know how and even why, but her notification sounds, alarm sounds et ringtone sound are always reverting to default ones a few time after setting them to which one she wants.
Sound are on SD card, she doesn't unmount her sd card or something like that.
I even created a sound profile but it changed sound again :'(
Phone is Stock, unrooted, etc. It does the same in gingerbread, and now in ics.
If anyone can help me it would be much much appreciated
Thank you.

Copy the files on phone storage... I had that problem, too but now, it's solved

Just take a file browser on your phone (Solid Explorer is a really great one) and then just copy & paste Best would be to copy them in /system/media/audio/ and than choose the right folder for your file from /alarms, /notifications or /ringtones

Ok I looked my setup up again and files are still on SD-card Maan this is awkward...
Copy your files to /SD-card/media/audio/ and than choose right folder from /ringtones, /notifications and /alarms
This should definitiely work as it worked for me too

Are you sure it freezes? Mine just takes *ages* to finish that stage.
But yes, delete that folder and you'll be able to rebuild your library from scratch.

Delete the folder (that he said above) via file explorer. You can usually find the folder in the root of your storage card. Works everytime. G/L.
unable to find the hidden folder WMDRM, used the search program on my phone asnd still no luck . do i have to sync my tilt and delete it thru the cpu.
If you are using the standard file explorer, make sure that you have the "show all files" option switched on.
i wish it was that simple
yeah it is. win i pulled up winrar to un rar a file i saw it as a folder but i can't get to it. still haven't sync phone, @ wrk
If it 1 thing its another

after this it updating says it found 2087 files but only adds the file save to the phone not the memory card. doeas this sound familiar to any one
yeah use Total Commander or another "good" file explorer. & remove the "WMDRM" folder... it should be in the root folder of your SD card...
even then, if you have a TON of mp3's you may have to wait 5 minutes while it updates... I've had to reboot when it freezes & its hard to tell when its just taking forever & when its frozen :S
If that STILL doesn't work, try putting your files back on your desktop computer, then put your SD card in your computer, and re-transferring them that way.
Hope that helps

Deleting Ringtones thru Root Explorer

I had made some custom ringtones thru iTunes and a ringtone app. They show up under Menu/Settings/Sound/Phone Ringtone. Most show up on the sd card under media either Ringtones (a folder I created for the iTunes one) and media/audio/ringtones.
But when I go to system/media thru Root Explorer, only the stock ones show. Using eVils 1.18 rom.
How can I delete the ones under Menu/Settings/Sound/Phone Ringtone? If I can't see them thru root explorer. Or, am I looking in wrong place?
Ken
Files in the /system/media folder are the system ringtones. The ones that you saved are on the sdcard under /media.
The ones you see under settings are all the ringtones from both the system and sdcard.
I personally don't use any of the system ringtones...so I delete them with Root Explorer. But, to see the effects...you must reboot. At this point...you'll only see your saved ringtones when you go back into settings. Hope that's what you were asking to solve.
Thanks SiNJiN76,
I now understand.
Problem now is I have some ringtones in Menu/Settings/Sound/Phone Ringtone that don't show on the sd or root explorer. They don't even have the right song tied to the title. Almost like they multi duplicated.
How can I delete them. My guess is I can't unless I restore.
Thanks,
Ken
I'm a bit stumped here. Maybe use the search function on Root Explorer for those file names? I know that I often overlook the search function all the time. Maybe the app that you used is somehow populating the menu with those ringtones hidden in its own folder somewhere? Hope I've been able to give you clues to solve this mystery of yours.
No problem,
It is a wierd one, I have 7 ringtones titled Hotel California that play Gypsy. Not sure how they got there or why there is 7 of them.
They only appear on the phone dropdown menu for ringtones, nowhere else.
I'll try the search.
EDIT: Search found them. Deleted, rebooted, gone. Thanks for the tip. It is a forgotten function.

when I try and delete it says I can't because the file is system read only file. Checked properties, but it doesn't show that (like a normal computer property list). So how do you change this so I can delete the stock ringtones which I never use?

Be sure to use a file explorer that has root access. If you are using the latest version of root explorer, it asks you if you temporarily want to mount as read/write (something like that). Once deleted restart the phone.

The boot sound part is easy I think? It's when it comes to making the animation part is what I find daunting... What rom are you on? Do you want the whole song???
No just the beginning part where it has the guitar and the crowd saying Thunder. BAMF stripped 2.1
I too, would find this very interesting. That, or the battlemech turn on computer.
Try this one, I made it 30 seconds long.

How about this? It has a 4.5 second lead in...if you want I can adjust? Made it to work with Th3ory rom. Rename as you need.
hinds73
Edit: Just loaded it on mine and I think I need to adjust the audio levels a little? Seems too loud. Let me know
Edit 2: Ok, new file attached.

No, open zip and extract the mp3. Name to whatever you need to match your existing boot sound. Rename existing boot sound by putting .old at the end to keep for backup.
What rom are you running?
Move newly named mp3 to either system/customize/resource or system/media? Make sure to correct the permissions and ownership of the file.
I am using BAMF GB Remix mod. Do you know how I could/where I would make these changes?
Thanks in advance!

Not sure about Bamf? Looks like its in system/media. Rename to FinalThunder.mp3
Use root explorer to change permissions and ownership once file is in system/media.
Make sure to rename existing FinalThunder.mp3 to FinalThunder.mp3.old so you can revert back if you wish.
If this helps, say thanks! lol...I see you did...
Edit: Oh yea, and you take all responsibility to anything you do to your device...blah blah blah
Thanks again, so it looks like I cant move, rename or delete the original file, I assume "root explorer" is the solution to this?

Yes use root explorer. Extract the mp3 from the zip folder. In Root Explorer "Mount R/W" Navigate to system/media and long press on FinalThunder.mp3 rename to FinalThunder.mp3.old....Then find the extracted mp3 I gave you.... Then long press on the file and choose copy... Then navigate to system/media....choose paste....then long press on the file I gave you and rename to FinalThunder.mp3
If for any reason it wont let you change anything make sure you are still mounted as R/W on the top.
Now long press on the mp3 and choose permissions...make it look like below.
Read Write Execute
(x) (X) ()
(x) () ()
(x) () ()
Then select ok
Now long press on the mp3 and choose change owner
In owner select 0-root
In group select 0-root
Select ok
i'm running cm7 atm. there isnt a mp3 to replace so should i just drop it into the folder?
/system/media/...
just dropping it in and changing permissions like the above post didnt seem to work. ive still got the cm animation but no sound

Ok, so it would appear that CM7 is totally different as I would've expected. I have provided a couple links that might help you out. I was just going to try to post the files here, but you might as well download them yourself and give thanks to the guy that actually figured it out.

If you want, you can simply try to rename the file android_audio.mp3 and see if that works...but I'm thinking it won't? Don't forget to change the permissions and ownership.

Thanks for the help I'll check it out
Swyped from my bolt running cm7
Wow! It's everything I hoped for! Thanks guys!
OP, damn good idea man.
@Hinds, good work yo.
Ok. Now can someone restructure my preferred bootanimation.zip to work with this? Thanks in advance!

Silent camera shutter. Its still not silent??

Hi guys!
First off sorry for making a new thread about this. I read 3 or 4 on the subject but Im still having no luck.
I dont want to have to mute the volume everytime I want to take a photo
so I prefer changing it in the system.
My model is a Korean Note so that "could" be why I cant diable the shutter sound.
My phone is rooted and in Astro file manager, I went into the appropriate location and added the extension .off, .bak, .backup I tried all three when I tredi to rename the Shutter_01.ogg, and it still doesnt work
Any ideas? Thanks!!!
Try renaming the "ui" directory. If that works, then you'll know it's one of the other OGG files in there. Then if that works, look for something camera-related. I think different ROMs use different sound files.

Which file explorer are you using? Even though your Note is rooted, the file explorer you use still has to run as root (e.g. Root Explorer).
I think in my ui directory, I have a few sound files beginning with "camera". You could try renaming those one at a time (if you have them).
delete Shutter_01.ogg at system/media/audio/ui
edit: sorry didnt read all your post and if u deleted that file it shouldnt give any sound while taking photo, strange :/

Ringtones

I used to place my own rintones and notifications in a map ringtones and in a map notifications and was able to select the ringtone i want. Since last update i can only select the default ringtones and mp3 from the music list. I dont want my ringtones in my music list. What must i do to get it as it was ?
What do you mean by map ringtones and map notifications?
You must put them on /sdcard/Ringtones and /sdcard/Notifications, but if you don't want them to show in your music app, the only way I know is to put them in /system/media/audio, root needed of course.
Yes i know and i tried it. As mp3 and as ogg file but they dont play or show up in my list of ringtones.
Before the update to v20c i was able to place mp3 files in a map ringtones on my sd card and files would show up in ringtone list, not in music list.
Somehow the update has blocked this option. Only solution now is placing files in music dir on sd card.
Hoped that someone has a better solution
Of course you've restarted the device after copying the files? And I am not sure if it works in the external SD, I know it works in /sdcard.
Ofcourse...

well it depends on what type of music/songs you are placing on the media folders:btw you have to set permissions for each ringtone to r-w-r-r or to 6.4.4 so yeah meaby is just permissions or unsuported file format

Well the ringtone is in mp3, tried also ogg. Files can be played with the default music player, so an issue with file association cant be the issue. Will try setting rights..
But the strange thing is with v20b it still worked, i didnt change anything on the mp3... after the update to v20c the files dont show up in the ringtone list...
Oké, issue solved. Was indeed rights issue. Reset whole dir to 644 and reboted.
