[Q] Anyone with a James Bond "Skyfall" branded O2 (UK) phone? - Sony Xperia T, TL, TX, V

My previous phone was a Xperia arc. I got this Xperia T over the weekend and are still getting the hang of it. I rooted the phone successfully using Bin4ry's tool. Unfortunately it is loaded with bloatware, O2 branding and other junk that I want to get rid of but this cannot be done.
I always used ES File Explorer and was able to remove unwanted apps but now the moment I select the option "Mount File System" as writeable, it reboots the phone. Same happens when I try to use SystemCleanup by Inteks; it just reboots.
Anyone have a workaround yet, or are all those clever devs here on these forums working round the clock to correct all the wrongs?
Looks like those cunning devs at Sony added an extra layer of security to prevent people from making changes on the system partition....
Anyway, sofar I am very happy with my phone and reluctantly have to let go of my trusty old arc....

You should re-root with Bin4ry's new v12 script. Don't unroot, just run root script again. This will fix your reboot problem.
Tested and confirmed working
Andi have the t-mobile version of skyfall in the Netherlands

Awesome! That did the trick! Previously I used v11 to root, but v13 fixed the problem. Thanks again.
...now to find the location of all the junk apps. System\App does not have all of it and there is no more a folder called System\Vendor\App

Is your boot loader unlockable?

For bloatware, have you checked /system/etc/customization/applications/ ?

Yes. Follow instructions on Sony's website. Takes about 3 minutes. http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/

Is that specifically the O2 version? I know in general they are.

I intend to unlock it. My previous phone - arc - I had it unlocked by another member on the XDA forums. His username is Jinx13 and he does an excellent job. He charges 15 GBP for his service.
Having said that, when entering *#*#7378423#*#* on my phone and going to Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status it states my phone as Bootloader unlock allowed: No
....so I cannot do so from the Sony Website but these guys can work their magic
However, I am waiting for email from O2 after me requesting sim unlock. https://www.o2.co.uk/apps/help/help?qid=1&q1=2&route=unlocking&case=Handset Unlocking Form
After this, I will unlock the bootloader if Jinx13 or other users that advertise this service on this forum, are able to do so with this phone model. The way these guys unlock it, it also removes any sim locks as well...
@skifyr123:
No, I did not even know of that location, so thanks for that!! I was looking at the locations as it was on my xperia arc which was System\App and System\Vendor\App

I use Titanium Backup to remove all the bloatware after rooting. I've got TB Pro so I'm not sure if the free version allows it.
With TB you don't have to worry about finding the app apks - just view the Apps list in TB and uninstall whatever you want!

I just flashed the Generic UK FW on my Skyfall edition Xperia T, it removed all o2 branding, like above, used Titanium Backup to remove all bloatware. I have the pro version.
I spoke to Jinx, does he have a solution? He said right now, there is no test point solution available...?

Yes there will be. Be quiet now and wait till it's released.
Next time, post in Question&Answers not in General, as this obviously is a question.
why did not you think about that before you buy phone first locked phone and now crying out about root you should of get your self simple sim-free solution !!
for now i dont see reason to root phone is work fine without being picky !!
According to Doom it will take a longer while

Why root? Debloat, adblock, exchange security, data backup & restore, adblock, there's totally plenty of reasons to have stock rooted as well. But yeah, wait and STFU it is.

I agree with you, in addition reason for rooting for me, it is to change the fallback fonts and sync the system time.
I just try to live with unroot one, it's hard for a moment, however, I am still satisfied the stock ROM.
And I am also waiting for "just root" without unlocking bootloader.

Update:
Japanese Xperia Z (docomo SO-02E) has been rooted.
Rooting exploit by goroh_kuh, EasyRootingToolkit by huhka. See instructions here:
http://blog.huhka.com/2013/03/root-xperia-z-so-02e-rootingkit.html
Caution:
By rooting, you will void warranties you have with docomo.
The tooting toolkit is still new, so there may still be unknown issues
If there are any problems, you are on your own in fixing them
Compatible with both 10.1.D.0.317 and 10.1.D.0.322 firmwares.
Enable USB debugging and Unknown sources. Run runme.bat, and follow screenshot instructions.
This is root only, it does not unlock bootloader and does not wipe DRM (BE2 still works after rooting)
From 2ch:
Running the root script may cause your FeliCa/おサイフケータイ to stop working. Deleting or renaming \data\usf (a directory created by the rooting script) reportedly fixes some FeliCa programs (such as モバイルSuica), but this has not been extensively tested. Additionally, the おサイフケータイ app will report "Services in UIM/USIM card are not available because the function is locked or inserted UIM/USIM card doesn't support the services."
Other Docomo-/Japan-only services (infrared, 1seg, etc) appear to still work correctly.
For further updates, please check huhka's blog, goroh_kun's twitter, xperia-freaks.org, or current SO-02E rooting thread on 2ch.

shouldnt matter as AFAIK running a complete repair operation with PC Companion should erase all rooting traces.
Great news! We can expect something similar for Z then now?

I read in comments it's working on Z . Anyone can confirm this ? Do you have NFC bug ?

[Q][ Bought an Xperia T without contract, though i'm not allowed to unlock bootloader

I feel kinda screwed here, I purchase phones without contract on purpose so that I do not have locked bootloader restrictions, though i cannot with this Xperia T, It's a lovely phone and I'd prefer to not return it for this restriction.
I'd love to get my hands drity on the Xperia T' s kernel source
What would you guys recommend me?
FYI, I only rooted the phone and updated to Jelly Bean.

Currently there is no way to unlock your botloader if it says its not allowed.
I would return it and get ask for one that can be unlocked.

This is probably a stupid question, as I guess you are well aware of this issue, but are you sure that the bootloader was unlockable when you purchased the phone? What I have in mind is that if you've used Goroh_kun's rooting method (or option "3" from Bin4ry's script), then the service menu incorrectly shows that bootloader unlocking is not allowed. I haven't bothered to check whether this actually does prevent the unlocking or it's simply a bug in the service menu itself, caused by the hooked library, but in any case it can be easily fixed. From what I've heard, it would be rather unusual to have an unbranded Xperia T that has the bootloader unlockable.
Edit: Ah, sorry, just noticed in your signature that my comment was also not relevant anymore, in addition to being unlikely helpful in your case.

This has actually been fixed in the latest version (22+) of the Bin4ry's script. If you do the rooting manually, using the Goroh_kun's method, I'd suggest that you make a copy of /data/data/com.sonyericsson.android.servicemenu/lib/libservicemenu.so, noting also the ownership (should be system:system) and permissions (most likely 644). I went so far as to restore the file's timestamp, but that seems to be unnecessary. In case you forget to do this, just take a look at Bin4ry's script and use the library he provides in the archive.
BTW, could you please tell which ROM version have you rooted successfully? I got a phone with 7.0.A.3.226 preinstalled, and neither method seems to work. There's simply no /data/local.prop for Bin4ry's original method to work (it seems to either be completely ignored if created, or at least its ownership is checked to confirm it's owned by root and not by, e.g. system), and Goroh_kun's method fails to switch the ownership of /sys/kernel/uevent_helper to system (if I understand correctly how it's supposed to work). Judging from other reports, this ROM version (and .223, perhaps) has indeed been patched against Bin4ry's method, and Goroh_kun's is likely working only on JB, so no surprise, but I really hoped I could make a full 1:1 backup of the phone.
Cheers,
Luchesar
P.S. Here's an article* that mentions the problem with the bootloader, but the solution is indeed much simpler. (Sorry, being a newbie here, I'm not allowed to post the link more conveniently. )

Rooting xperia zr without Loosing drm data & having locked bootloader

As you know there are not many kernel options for ZR as in Z you have to unlock bootloader to root the phone to flash it with CWM or any other recovery.
So this is detailed Guide to root Xperia ZR & having Locked Bootloader
1) Don't upgrade your phone to 4.2.2_10.3.1.A.2.67 Firmware & If you already updated it to Downgrade it to 4.1.2_10.1.1.a.1.310 Firmware In Flash mode Using Flashtool 9.13 (Download Flashtool 9.11 install it After upgrade it with 9.12 & 9.13) don't unlock bootloader.
2)Now Root it Using DooMLoRD_Easy-Rooting-Toolkit_v18_perf-event-exploit. to root just click runme.bat. Your phone will get root access & you will get Superuser app
3)Then use Backup-TA-9.8 to backup your TA.img & save it at any Safe location for further Use ( It Content DRM Data & must be saved throughout lifespan of your phone).
4)Now upgrade your phone to 10.3.1.A.2.67 either by OTA or Using Sony PC companion & if you are unable to get upgrade don't panic just use flashtool & flash the 4.1.2_10.1.1.a.1.310 again & try the OTA upgrade. (As i do have both for Indian region but attachments will be too big to Attach here).
5)Now install Vroot on your PC & root your phone with it. Now you can see that your bootloader got unlocked but don't panic install SuperSu from Playstore update binary for it reboot your phone. now freeze Superuser from Vroot using titanium backup then update binary for SuperSu. Now convert Superuser from Vroot into user app using Titanium Backup. Reboot Your phone update binary for SuperSu & uninstall superuser from Vroot.
6)Now Use BLU button From Flashtool. on pressing BLU button Flashtool it will prompt to start phone in flash mode to unlock bootloader just do as prompted but dont disconnect the phone after boot loader just hit the BLU button to re-lock bootloader. Reboot your phone.
7)Now just flash Back-up your TA Using Backup-TA-9.8.
8)Congratulation now you have rooted phone with locked bootloader with full functionality.
I wrote this because i just lost DRM data things cant be undone.
SO for all Niewbies this is guide to ROOT ZR with Locked BootLoader.

OK i agree there are there are many guide for rooting but all are applicable to Z or Zl having many kernel options. not as Zr which has very few kernel option.
Try any Method except vroot on Zr & tell me which are more useful.
Even vroot unlocks bootloader so to get root with 4.1 without unlocking bootloader is precautionary because accidental wipe of Ta partition may void Warranty.
This is not for pro who can build kernel for those who knew very less about android, to avoid them all pain i suffered.
& again i joined this forum 4 days ago as you think but i used this subscribed it 4 years ago with my first X10 & used it Since then anonymously as i lost my password for cant retrieve it.
& Tell me What is inaccurate i will try it Myself.
If you think its ridiculous why you haven't posted how to Root Zr it would have saved me a lot of pain.
So as you done nothing before stay as you are at least i m trying to save pain of others.

DRM data is Digital Rigths Management Data which links purchased data to your phone without which you cant use data u purchased. More Important without which warranty voids, Bravia Engine seizes to work properly as it works with DRM Data. & Track Id downloaded from Market will not integrate with walkman which are Sony proprietary software's.

hmm... i don't get any sort of crap from that software on my PC... maybe cos i was smart enough not to just blindly click Next all the way. IE/reg/security settings are all fine (part of my job is IT security so i know when weird things come into my PC)
as for the screenshot of the superuser app "dialing home", well one of the first few things i did was to replace it with SuperSU...
what..?? I've never seen a rooting procedure which unlocks the BL... and that last one absolutely doesn't need to be unlocked for rooting ! Honestly, I've serious doubts about your intentions. Why the hell do you tell upgrading, flashing, flashing back and blabla... this is too complicated.

[Q] Telus HTC Desire 510 - problems removing software from device

Hey,
Wondering if somebody could help me out. I purchased a Telus HTC Desire 510. The bootloader has been unlocked, TWRP installed, SuperSU root access. I installed Titanium Backup. I uninstalled system software such as Twitter, Facebook, services etc, and have noticed that when I restart the phone, the software comes back.
Can someone explain to me why the O.S. is doing this? It's Android kitkat. I have noticed in any file manager that it defaults to and emulated folder etc //sdcard/emulated. Also thinking it might have something to do with HTC software pre-installed //dumby proof backup software? In the past on any Android device, after unlocking and rooting I've never had this problem. Starting to fumble me...
Thanks

Hi, unfortunately I cannot help you at the moment but I will try to look up your problem. In the mean time, can you please create a stock backup from your ROM and make it available. Hey,
Thanks for the reply. I created a backup with TWRP, approx. size 2.5GB unzipped in a folder a few days ago. I will try to get it online /zipped/compressed I geuss to a reasonable size.
I do see your VM/Sprint roms available. Unsure whether to try them as it's a different carrier? Telus runs on GSM LTE 4 1700/2100Mhz band 4. Could always revert back but I don't want to wreck the phone.
A great little phone. Still very new.
I see some roms say ''write protection removed'. Would this have something to do with the stock software coming back on boot? Ie . facebook etc. I always assumed having SU rights basically removes write protection. Who knows.

Since there is no S-OFF for this device, you'll need a kernel with write-protection removed... That's why the apps you remove keep reappearing upon reboot.

Thanks for the response. I went ahead and flashed the Cricket kernel on the device and it worked. Being a Telus device it seems to make no difference. I will check and make sure 4G LTE still works - if the kernel even has anything to do with it?
Glad this worked as there is a tonne of garbage on these phones that I'd like to get rid of. I might go ahead and try a custom rom - with the HTC software removed - as it seems to cause some issues when removing (htc software) from Titanium Backup.
Question as I'm curious- has anyone figured out a way to unlock the governor for the CPU/GPU. I think this config would be a prime candidate to mild overclocking.

Hi, I do not think so, but I am not 100% sure. So far, for Cricket Kernel with Write Protection Removed v1.0, Ondemand was set as default governor and all Stock Governors was Enabled.

Thanks

The TELUS device is GSM, so likely the Cricket Kernel with write-protection removed will help you. Look under Android Development for it.
Sorry all.. realized this was a solved thread.
Did you install a Write Protect removed Kernel/image? That could be the reason. By the way, would you happen to have a TWRP stock backup that you make available for us? We're trying to get the VM/Sprint variant running on a GSM network, but so far we have not been very successful.

Hey,
Thanks for the reply.
Who knows.

Hi, I would like to check if you had some time to get your Telus TWRP backup online or not yet. Thanks in advance.

Couple of questions before attempting root

Hey guys,
So before I go ahead an attempt to unlock my bootloader and root my phone, just wanted to clear a couple of things up first.
This is my first Huawei device, previous one was a Sony, so I'm a little unfamiliar with a few things.
1. Is unlocking the bootloader required for root? If not, could someone point me in the direction of a guide to root only?
On the Sony, as long as I had a compatible firmware, I could root without unlocking the bootloader.
2. Will I lose any DRM Keys, proprietary features (Force Touch, Themes etc) through unlocking the bootloader and/or rooting? If so, can these be restored afterwards, while retaining root?
Again, with the Sony, unlocking the bootloader would result in losing DRM Keys related to visual enhancements, and were required to be backed up (via TABackup) prior to unlocking the bootloader. These could then be restored after root, and function as normal.
3. If you do lose features, and they can't be restored while keeping root. If I flash a stock ROM back on, losing root in the process, will these features also be restored?
Thanks

1) I used the SRK Tool (http://forum.xda-developers.com/p9-plus/development/tool-srk-tool-huawei-bootloader-root-t3405999) and it showed step by step on rooting. Unlocking bootloader seems to be one of the steps before rooting. Maybe you can ask somboons about it.
2) For me, unlocking the bootloader basically resets my phone. And added a warning just before the phone bootup to android (from cold state or off state) that the bootloader has been unlocked and the phone is not trusted now. Just need to restore the apps and other data through the HiSuite backups after unlocking and rooting seems to be fine. Not sure about DRM keys, and others as didn't try those out before doing bootloader unlock. But I did lost my remote set up as it was not part of the HiSuite's data backup.
3) Do a backup with HiSuite should be able to help you. Just need to identify in the HiSuite that the apps and their data is being backed up.

Thanks mate, I did have a look at that thread as well, and another (less detailed) post. Was just wanting to confirm if there was any other method without need for bootloader unlocking. Figure the less things to modify, the less chance of something going wrong, which has worked well for me so far.

Any way to remove that message while retaining root? Sounds similar to the 'yellow triangle' back when I had an S2, but that was able to be removed, is this the same?
Not too worried about backing up apps & data at the moment, I haven't fully set up my phone as I realised it would most likely be lost upon rooting. But thanks for the heads up!

Sorry I was more thinking along the lines of, if any P9+ exclusive features were to be lost during root, could they easily be restored simply by flashing a stock ROM again? Apps & app data seem to be easy enough to restore via HiSuite/Titanium etc

The orange colored message i read from somewhere that it's Android security implementation standard or something. There's red message also which renders the whole phone can not boot in unless being reset.
In terms of the exclusive apps, not that I know of. Checked with my friend who kept her device as it is, without all the unlock and rooting, and compare with my device which went through and upgrade, unlock and a rooting process - no missing apps noticed.
Thanks guys

So i've successfully rooted the phone, and yeah I get that 'your device has been unlocked and isn't safe' message on boot. It's not too much of a bother, besides being unsightly, but I don't really reboot my phone too often anyway.
I haven't noticed anything missing either, a few minor bugs have started to appear, but that might have to do with Xposed (I would guess).
Thanks for the advice & help!

Dear Abdo2,
I'm not knowledgeable about the term oem here.
But if it is an issue of dual sim usage, I presume it's built into the ROM? What I know is all P9+ are hybrid dual sim, so it should be part of the ROM that you have.
I'm using VIE-L29C636B170. And it have the dual sim support in-built...although I've not used it yet.
See if anyone knowledgeable to your question passing by here can answer you. If not, maybe you can try the question & answer thread. Or post as another new thread if really no one got your question.
Regards.

Dear djyoshii,
Good to know.
About the security message, one of it is mentioned here:
https://source.android.com/security/verifiedboot/verified-boot.html
For minor bugs, I'm not sure what you have. I've 3 games and 1 app that behaves not like when I used my previous phone (on Android 5.0). That's around 3-5% of all the apps that I used (meaning, majority works fine). Of those some of them related to Android 6.0 issue (actually the apps not updated for the Android version well). So, for me generally I would think it's marshmallow thing.
Regards.
Hi,
long time htc user (always totally unlocked) but looking to get a p9 plus for my wife (this is the important part).
can someone give me a simple answer...
if i only root the phone (for titanium backup mainly and maybe some cosmetic mods) will i be able to unroot it and return it under warranty?
phones here in Dubai are all unbranded so no problems there.
I have no need to unlock bootloader (yet )

Dear gazzacbr,
From what I tried (been a while since I last did this), one will have to unlock the bootloader first before rooting. Apparently rooting is the last step of the whole process (if you are using the SRK tools). Now, to go back to the status of unrooted, I just use the superSU's total unroot option to unroot. And to go further back to bootloader, there is an option within SRK tool but my last attempt failed to relock the bootloader back. Didn't spend so much time to play around with the unlocking the bootloader after that. So, I just use as is - unlocked bootloader with no root.
One thing you need to note, for titanium backup, I end up just using their own desktop application called HiSuite. It does backup app and app data for you. Not system apps' data though. For theme customisation, MIUI do have a friendly Themer app that you can use to change the look. The corresponding theme files (*.hwt) are zipped, so you can always use 7zip to open and edit the assets inside to the one that you want.
Ok, thanks for the good info @prismfire. As long as it could be rooted sometime later then thats fine. Will pick up one this weekend.
Am going to be jealous though as I guess it's a step up from my 'old' M8
