[MODS](Updated 5/11/12) Ice Cream Boost (Status Bar, Battery Icons, Gallery, etc) - Galaxy Ace S5830i Android Development

Theme for ICS modding:
1. ICS style Battery
2. Blue Clock Centered
3. Blue Clock Right
4. White Clock Right
5. ICS style Lock Pattern
6. ICS Gallery (By moblynx)
This theme is completely compiled by me, however taking some points and notes from misc. posts and threads
Network Scale and data icons- Rajrocks Razodroid rom
ICS battery - Anonymous pngs
ICS Gallery - Moblynx
Every other tweak- by me
This is only tested for s5830i
You should have Root
Your ROM should be deodexed
Tested for XXLA2 baseband only
Method I (Easy)
Guide :-
Required:-
ClockworkMod Recovery
Desired Files
Patience
Download your desired files from Falashable Zip section
Keep it in the root of your sdcard.
Reboot your phone into recovery mode. (Generally, pressing Volume Up +Home +Power button simultaneously after switching off your phone)
Flash Clockworkmod Recovery by choosing "Update from SDCard"
Then choose from the menu of ClockworkMod "Apply update from SDCard" and Choose the desired file you downloaded and flash it.
You will see that the it is installed. (In case it is not, try to mount system by going in Mounts and Storage)
Reboot your System
Success!!!
The above method includes all mods including the ICS Gallery replacing stock gallery
Its the fastest and smoothest gallery I have ever seen, PROBABLY FASTER THAN QUICKPICS
This Gallery gives you the feel of butter flow gallery with stock accent
Its minimalistic and is better than Quickpics in the sense that when you open Quickpics, it loads all files and if you have many pictures, it would be taking time to load them
This gallery is the answer
You won't be dissapointed
Method II (Hard)
Guide(I):-
Required:-
Root
Root Explorer
Patience
Mind
To change color status bar
1. Download Root Explorer from Play Store
2. Then download the file from the link below the post
Its SystemUI.apk
3. Go in Root Explorer
So first go to your root then system /app
Then copy your original SystemUI.apk in any folder on SD Card (Note: Enable Mount system as R/W in Root Explorer)
4. Then copy the SystemUI.apk I gave you and paste in system/app
5. SET PERMISSIONS
Long click on SystemUI.apk and click on permissions
You will see three columns
Read Write Execute
You have to set them in the following way
x means you have to tick it
blank means uncheck
Read Write Execute
.....x........x.................
.....x...........................
.....x...........................
6. Click OK
Now your status bar will be gone
Reboot
7. Sometimes you have to reboot more than one time to make it in effect
Note : in root explorer, in system/app or system/framework
click on mount system as R/W
not R/O
or you will get error
Guide(II):
To change the battery icons to ICS
1. Download framework-res.apk
Follow the same steps
Copy paste framework-res.apk. Set permissions. Reboot
Just the location of framework-res.apk is system/framework instead of system/app
Do at your own risk
LISTEN : TASK SWITCHER of ICS STYLE(IF YOU HAVE ENABLED IT) WILL BE REVERTED
If there is any issue, then paste your original SystemUI.apk and framework-res.apk and set permissipns and reboot
This mod has taken me a whole week
So please have mercy don't copy
And thanks please

framework-res.apk problem
after paste this file to system/framework
framework-res.apk http://www.4shared.com/android/Yw-AK...ework-res.html
it keeps on restarting how to solve this issue?

Do i need to delete SystenUI.odex ?
Sent from my GALAXY ACEi on Stock odexed..The Best

Dude you have to specify for what firmware it is, cause if you replace files over a different firmware you will get bootloop. Also it would be easier if you could flash it, just download an update.zip, replace files inside and modify updater script.
EDIT. Ok i see you are using razordroid if you use that as base to change the statusbar then your firmware will work for XXLA2 based roms but for the rest XXLH3 VCJL4 and so on it wont...

Right now im running on stock WHLA1, would be great if you could make this mod for other firmwares but also you have to specify in your first thread that this only works for XXLA2 based roms.

[MOD/THEME/TUT] Battery Indicator Theme

Warning! Applying a theme to the battery icon involves modifying system files and will more than likely brick your phone unless you are 100% sure on what you are doing or have a good back/restore solution
Big thanks to Fightspit for his original thread on creating these battery themes
Here is an example theme i've attached below (see pre-made theme.zip)
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
and here is it in action
There are 2 quite serious prerequisites to this mod
1) Must be rooted with S-OFF
2) ClockworkMod installed and a backup taken (Please, please, please, do this in case of failure)
To create a theme from scratch.
1) Grab the source files for the theme of your choice from this thread
2) Grab APK Manager 4.9 from here
3) Download framework-res.apk from your "system/framework" folder using adb or root explorer
4) Place your downloaded framework-res.apk in APK Manager's "place-apk-here-for-modding" folder
5) In APK Manager choose option 22 to set current project
6) choose option 9 to decompile apk
7) replace battery xml files in folder "res/drawable" and pngs in folder "res/drawable-hdpi" within the extracted "projects/framework-res" folder that APK Manager creates
8) Choose option 11 to compile
9) Select "y" is system apk
10) Select "y" replace original folders
11) In the "keep" folder that APK Mananger has created, delete resources.arsc
and the battery xml files in "res/drawable" and the battery pngs in "res/drawable-hdpi"
12) Press any key and let APK recompile
13) In the "place-apk-here-for-modding" folder, rename unsignedframework-res.apk to framework-res.apk
14) Extract the attached "Blank Update.zip.zip" then Open up the update.zip with 7zip
15) Drag your renamed framework-res.apk to the "framework" folder in 7zip to overwrite the existing blank framework-res file
16) Close update.zip (agree to any messages about updating the file)
17) Copy update.zip to your sdcard
18) Flash the update.zip via ClockworkMod
My Pre-made battery theme
This contains the android battery theme I posted above, already to flash
Warning! This was made for software version 1.32.405.6 - You may get errors if running a different version to me. If so, restore using clockworkmod
1) Extract attached "Pre-made theme.zip" and copy update.zip to your sdcard
2) Flash the update.zip via ClockworkMod

v2 Colour - Added version with coloured status bar icons
Big thanks for this tutorial!
I love the look of this! Will need to install Clockwork Mod etc of course before I use it, but I will look into this soon
Just to clarify, is it possible to get only the battery mod without the other coloured icons? Is Pre-made themeV2.zip only the battery yes? And the colour version is all the icons?

Whilst I appreciate you gave a guide on how to make our own, I'm really not very graphically talented, would it be possible to have one where the numbers are clearer?
I love the little android, but I have to hold my phone right up to my face to see the actual percentage
Thanks though, have to have % visible
Sorry I didn't make the images. They were taken from this thread. You could maybe ask over there if anyone could help you though
Ahh, cool, I used the online kitchen to make my own, pretty awesome!
I've flashed my own one, but now I've lost all the colourful other icons. I assume if I flash them back over, I lose my battery icon, right?

Just out of interest, did you flash the zip file that the kitchen generated? It wouldn't work for me.
You can just add the icons back into the framework-res.apk (the one you had with the battery icons) and reflash

Not really sure to be fair. I just used the clockworkmod that is kicking around in the dev section as it is the only way i'm comfortable with to flash update.zip files. There may be others ways to achieve the same thing though

Is anyone else using the online kitchen to build these battery themes?
It keeps generating folders with v4 at the end, ie drawable-hdpi-v4
The folders in the framework-res on my stock rom doesnt have -v4 at the end like so "drawable-hdpi". I believe this is why I keep getting force close when I flash the file from the online kitchen
yes some kitchens do that. thats why i prefer doeing it manually or checking with theme porter. i always check the res folders for these annoying -vX endings.
I thought so, it's just that someone mentioned in this thread that the kitchen work for them and i'm just trying to figure out how since it does add the pesky -v4 to whatever it cooks for me.
Manually is the way to go
Just out of interest, what does theme porter do?
i checks 2 files (old and new) for updated pngs, and copies them across.
very useful when you actually have a theme already, but simply want to port it (i.e due to an update of the framework res by the manufactorer). This does it for you. Not as sophisticated as apk-manager true

[THEME] [UPDATE 10/24/11] Honeycomb Sammich! [3G 3.2 & Tiamat 2.2.2)

[DOWNLOAD] THIS IS FOR 3G VZW XOOMS ON 3.2! (*UPDATED to include Quick Menu Alignment fix*)
[TIAMAT PORT] FOR TIAMAT 2.2.2 MORAY - CWM FLASHABLE
Some of the system apps such as the calendar and browser have very minimal changes since they don't have code in them to use all of the new stuff that ICS will have.
Installation:
Code:
Honeycomb Sammich for XOOM 3G (US) - Android 3.2
v1.0 - 10/21/11 - Please report bugs!
*NOTE* No XML files were edited in this theme due to issues with apktool and 3.2, but everything works nicely as is.
Included in this package:
-main
framework-res.apk - Goes in system/framework. Requires reboot
-System Apps folder (All of these go in system/app folder on your XOOM)
SystemUI.apk - Requires reboot
Launcher2.apk - CHANGING THIS WILL WIPE YOUR HOMESCREEN WIDGETS. Apps shortcuts will remain.
DeskClockGoogle.apk - Changed the small Honeycomb clock widget.
Browser.apk
Settings.apk
CalendarGoogle.apk
GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk
-bootanimation.zip - Galaxy Nexus boot animation adjusted for the XOOM. Thanks Sardo Numspa!
To install this, copy it to data/local or push it there via adb.
-Fonts folder (Requires reboot for the clock in the status bar to change)
3 Android Clock fonts and the Roboto system font.
Roboto-Regular.ttf (Use Font Changer from the market. It's free.) *Change this font BEFORE pushing the clock fonts*
-To change Roboto to your system font, drop it into the .fontchanger folder on your SD card (make sure that you can see hidden files in your
file explorer of choice) then navigate to it in the FontChanger app.
AndroidClock.ttf
AndroidClock_Solid.ttf
AndroidClock_Highlight.ttf
Two ways to install:
A. With Root Explorer
1. Put the files and folders in your XOOM's SD Card
2. Navigate to them in Root Explorer
3. Copy each one over individually to their respective folders
(Note - Make sure you change your XOOM to writable in Root Explorer by switching W/O to R/O at the top)
-For framework-res.apk, copy it into system/framework, then reboot.
-For files in the System Apps folder, copy them over to system/app (Reboot after installing SystemUI.apk and Launcher2.apk)
*NOTE THAT CHANGING THE LAUNCHER WILL WIPE WIDGETS FROM HOMESCREENS. Back up any circle launcher settings you have to save time resetting everything.
-For files in the Fonts folder, copy them over to system/fonts (Reboot for the status bar clcok change) and use FontChanger to set Roboto as the main system font.
B. Via ADB (If you want the Gingerbread clock and CL Buttons, you still need to install them manually)
1. Copy all files INDIVIDUALLY over to your Android SDK Tools folder first (You can put
them all in a single folder if you wish, just be sure to push from that folder, as in adb push folder\file /system/folder/file )
(These are CASE SENSITIVE!)
adb remount
adb push framework-res.apk /system/framework/framework-res.apk
adb push SystemUI.apk system/app
adb push Browser.apk system/app
adb push Launcher2.apk system/app # THIS WILL WIPE YOUR HOMESCREEN WIDGETS
adb push DeskClockGoogle.apk system/app
adb push Settings.apk system/app
adb push AndroidClock.ttf system/fonts/
adb push AndroidClock_Solid.ttf system/fonts/
adb push AndroidClock_Highlight.ttf system/fonts/
adb reboot
I'm currently working on some new Circle Launcher icons. The ones you see in the screenshot are placeholder. I want to make them look like the ICS folders instead.
Im assuming us 3.2.1 users are out too. Womp womp.
By the way...it looks beautiful. Thank you in advance.
Sent from my Xoom using xda premium
This looks great, making a backup now in anticipation
Don't matter what android OS i have installed i always fit the same ADW launcher.
Al though a newer OS is running in the background i alway seem to end up installing the same apps and widgets
simply, beautiful

It will have to be ported first. There's a couple of guys on the forums who have ported over several themes to tiamat ROMS, so as long as they're up for it, it will be on those ROMS, too.
Going to have to hold off on flashing this since its not compatible with tachi 2.2.2
Looks really slick though, I don't know how to port or else I'd do it
Looks very nice.

No XML edits, pretty much only just everything arrtoodeetoo has done so far. Pretty slick looking. Thanks dude!!
Thanks, Bazer! I will update the title and first post to include your contribution.
The longer I have this on my XOOM, the more excited I am to get the real thing on it. I love the shade of blue they're using in ICS. That being said, I will probably theme the real deal to be Android Green.

No problem dude, happy to contribute. And Apktool has been patched and works perfectly for 3.2, I'll try to get a link to it since its a patch and not a complete nnew version, he attached to one of the problem threads. I've been using it to almost anything.
Xoomin with Tapatalk
The problem I have is with the XML files. They break the apks when I edit them and drop the new .asrc file into the apk. Everything else works fine.
Would you make a .zip file which is flashable through CWM ?
I would, but I don't know how. I think MitchTank did it for the Stargate theme (Correct me if I'm wrong.) Maybe he will drop by and help with this one.

Just grab the one I linked, its a cwm zip. Put framework-res.apk inside /system/framework, and put the other apks inside /system/app.. /system/font is already filled, along with /data/local for the boot anim. Then go to /meta-inf/com/Google/ and pull out updater-script, in notepad++ edit the starred boxes that has my custom messageto your own, and you're good to roll!

[GUIDE]Theming your ROM on Phone(Editing framework-res.apk to change icons)

So friends, here is a quick and easy guide for changing the status bar icons of your s5830i(Actually any phone )
For those who don't know how to do it(for anyone actually :highfive
Theory
Android is the awesome platform which is easily configurable and is able of being edited very easily
The icons used in every app and Android framework are located as png images in apk of those respective apps in location:-
*.apk/res/drawable-mdpi (in our case, as our phone is mdpi)
So, we can change any icon of our status bar like battery, signal, (not clock[clock is to be configures in SystemUI.apk{will post how to change it shortly}]), etc by editing png's in framework-res.apk
Not even that, you can edit images of any app as I told you
There are several ways to decompile and compile apk in which we have made change
If we want full access of apk and want to change every thing like the xml's in it and smali content in jar files, then we would have to do it on computer by apktool or apkmanager
But, we are here to only change image, so we would not go in detail of apktool or apkmanager. For changing images, that can be very easily done even on the phone by an app NinjaMorph that is made for developers by our senior head and DEVELOPING LEGEND Stephen(Stericson)
But be careful as backing up the original file if you do something wrong
And as you all know any developer or even a newbie posting something interesting that you want to try WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE for your mobile blowing up, resting in peace, sleeping like a dead, behaving like a non-living BRICK, or anything whatsoever that may or may not happen to phone in this universe or any other universe known or unknown
What to do if anything happened to my mobile
We have had a backup of your original file so we can restore it
But if while editing the system files like framework-res.apk
If you deleted some un-backed up apk's
Well you can always have backup of your ROM and that is why Koushik Datta has made clockworkmod Recovery
You can restore your ROM from there
Pre-Requisites
Patience
Mind
A GT-S5830i (A spare one if you brick your phone, just kidding)
Root access(to change the apk)
NinjaMorph(http://bit.ly/ninjamorph)
Root Explorer(Optional)(http://bit.ly/stericson)
GUIDE
So Let's Start
Download NinjaMorph. Install it and give it root access. It will prompt for starting checks. Click on start checks.
Now you would have three options, namely, New Project, Finish Project, Existing Project
Click on new project. Go to system/framework/ and click on framework-res.apk. It will start extracting files
Once it has extracted all the files, it will open to show you what is inside framework-res.apk.
Exit it and go to your file explorer.
Go to /sdcard/AndroidThemes/workspace/framework-resapk
This is what is inside apk. Go to res/drawable-mdpi folder
There you will see hundreds of icons of your menu, lockscreen, battery, signal, and everything
You can edit them and replace them as you want. But the name of the file you are replacing and size and dimension must be equal to the file you are replacing with(I recommend Googling and finding icons of battery, signal, and other things)[I have even used hdpi icons, there was no problem]
If you download a theme file which is to be flashed in recovery that is not for your phone, no problem, extract the zip and place its framework-res.apk in your sdcard and extract the apk with Ninjamorph. Replace your icons with its icons and TADA
After you have done replacing the icons and you are satisfied(I am never)
Go to NinjaMorph. Click on Fininsh Projects. Click on framework-resapk. It will recompile and ask to replace the original apk with modded one. Click OK
Then it will ask if you want to remove the completed project, Say No(As you would need it if something gets wrong)
Reboot your phone
Maximum chances are that your icons will be replaced. Rare cases have their status bar gone or no change, if so:-
Download(Buy) Root Explorer. Go to /sdcard/AndroidThemes/workspace,
There you will see framework-res.apk. Copy it and go to /system/framework
Mount as R/W
Paste the apk. If it asks that file already exists, overwrite it.
SET PERMISSIONS
Long click on framework-res.apk and click on permissions
You will see three columns
Read Write Execute
You have to set them in the following way
x means you have to tick it
blank means uncheck
Read Write Execute
.....x........x.................
.....x...........................
.....x...........................
Click OK
You will see it as rw-r--r--
Reboot
Do it over again if nothing happens
Enjoy
This way you can edit not only framework-res.apk but any apk

You should edit Mms.apk
I don't know as I never edited Mms.apk
For colour you should edit xml files
Which won't be accessed by this method
And the code you are asking for
You won't get the xml from this method
So you won't be able to edit it

But in the systemUI.apk don´t have the lidroid's icon. I only found them in lindroid-res.apk.
I tried change the color with ninjamorph, and it´s work. But if I replace an icon, it doesn´t work.
thanks
Edited: I was trying replace the png's with the ninjamorph. It was the problem.
Now I replaced the png's with root explorer and all work fine.

[MOD][GUIDE]Modified S-PEN Shortcuts toolbar / Change Apps (CWM)

IMPORTANT: Flash this MOD at your own risk. I or the XDA assume NO responsibility for any failed flashes or bricked tablets.
Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1
How-To change Apps in the S-PEN Shortcuts toolbar
I found, after a long time, a solution for change the Apps in the S-Pen Shortcuts toolbar. The toolbar pops up if you pushed out the S-Pen.
I don´t like and use some Apps like this stupid Game "crayon_physics" or Polaris Office...... first i have delete the Game but how i can get a new App in this Toolbar?!?
Now i have found a solution!!! And i want to teach you how you can do this!!!
First a few Screenshoots before and ofter the modding:
before (without the game):
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
after modding:
So .... how can you change the toolbar? I have tested it only on a deodexed ROM!!
What do you need?
any APK Tool Manager for decombile and recombile, like this LINK
a Text Editor like Notepad++ (free)
your SystemUI.apk from your ROM
a cup cake and a coffee :laugh:
First you decombile the SystemUI.apk
Go to the folder systemui\res\values
open the arrays.xml with the Text Editor
Here you find this lines
Code:
com.diotek.mini_penmemo,com.diotek.mini_penmemo.Mini_PenMemo_Service
com.sec.android.app.snotebook,com.infraware.filemanager.FmFileTreeListActivity
com.android.calendar,com.android.calendar.AllInOneActivity
com.acrodea.crayonphysics,com.acrodea.crayonphysics.crayonphysics
air.com.adobe.pstouch.oem1,air.com.adobe.pstouch.oem1.AppEntry
com.infraware.PolarisOfficeStdForTablet,com.infraware.splash.SplashActivity
Now you need the packageName and the className of the App that you want to make in the Toolbar.
An example:
com.acrodea.crayonphysics,com.acrodea.crayonphysics.crayonphysics
packageName = com.acrodea.crayonphysics
className = com.acrodea.crayonphysics.crayonphysics
or
air.com.adobe.pstouch.oem1,air.com.adobe.pstouch.oem1.AppEntry
packageName = air.com.adobe.pstouch.oem1
className =com.adobe.pstouch.oem1.AppEntry
Now you can change the packageName & className with your wanted Apps and recombile the SystemUI.apk
Pushed the SystemUI.apk in a flash able ZIP or changed it in your ROM.
Here are a List of Apps that i have allready tested! If you have an other App please post the packageName and the className and i added it on this List!!!
Or install the ClassFinder App
Code:
[B]Contacts[/B]
packageName=com.android.contacts
className=com.android.contacts.activities.DialtactsActivity
or
[B]Contacts[/B]
packageName=com.android.contacts
className=com.android.contacts.activities.PeopleActivity
[B]ChatOn[/B]
packageName=com.sec.chaton
className=com.sec.chaton.HomeActivity
[B]Camera[/B]
packageName=com.sec.android.app.camera
className=com.sec.android.app.camera.Camera
[B]Galerie[/B]
packageName=com.sec.android.gallery3d
className=com.sec.android.gallery3d.app.Gallery
[B]Dropbox[/B]
packageName=com.dropbox.android
className=com.dropbox.android.activity.DropboxBrowser
[B]Youtube[/B]
packageName=com.google.android.youtube
className=com.google.android.youtube.app.honeycomb.Shell$HomeActivity
[B]Settings[/B]
packageName=com.android.settings
className=com.android.settings.Settings
[B]Browser[/B]
packageName=com.android.browser
className=com.android.browser.BrowserActivity
[B]Maps[/B]
packageName=com.google.android.apps.maps
className=com.google.android.maps.MapsActivity
[B]Calender[/B]
packageName=com.android.calendar
className=com.android.calendar.AllInOneActivity
[B]PSTouch[/B]
packageName=air.com.adobe.pstouch.oem1
className=air.com.adobe.pstouch.oem1.AppEntry
[B]Contacts[/B]
packageName=com.infraware.PolarisOfficeStdForTablet
className=com.infraware.splash.SplashActivity
[B]E-Mail[/B]
packageName=com.android.email
className=com.android.email.activity.Welcome
[B]Samsung Video Player[/B]

That is the best entry I have seen on this forum, today!
Thank you
I have been looking for something like this.
Now, if we can just get it to be modified, on the fly (as an app and not required to be flashed in recovery), by specifying the apps you want to put in there....THAT will be cool and very, VERY useful.
Thanks for you hard work - appreciated.
