USB Wires. Questions... Help? - Galaxy Note II Accessories

I have a 2meter USB to MicroUSB cable(EBAY) plugged into mains which does Not charge the phone when screen is on. In fact it Loses charge when watching films .
But when l plug in the one that came with the phone (1 meter) it charges the phone no problem, regardless of what you are doing.
Anybody have any ideas for why this is happening?
Length of wire? or just bad quality of wire? But l have tried a few different 2m ones. Same drain.
Cheers me dears

I say it's bad quality of wire. I'm using the long cable that came with my Kindle paper white and it's fine. Of course nothing charges as fast as the original cable.

Charging cable for note 2

Could someone recommend any good supplier of USB to microUSB cable that can handle 2 amps of charging the note 2? Other than the cable I got from Samsung, all my cable charge super slow my note 2 (from the original charger).
Thanks

interested in this one too! also, a 6ft cable if available.
TIA
I'd be interested, also!
I purchased one of those 6 foot cable extensions and just plugged the stock cable into it and the extension portion into the stock charger. Works like charm.

No no not saying they wont work....its the performance aspects of cables.
kindle cable contained in link is 5-6ft long , allows usb sync , built for 2amp current flow and user reviews are solid which = Good quality.
A little explanation on why I'm buying new cable,
My stock is defective micro connection wasn't sure easily falling out of device.
I took it to ATT service center showed them what was up and they ordered replacement cables that sucked.
1st Rcable was too short -Samsung was only 3ft long.
2nd Rcable didn't sync to pc - Off the wall brand 6 ft long.
From that point I broke out utility knife modified stock cable cutting some plastic off sleeve on micro end.
Connections now sure but cable looks beat up so replacement was needed.
Well I received my Amazon Kindle replacement cable today
Kindle Cable is of good quality , connections are firm much better then stock oem that came with device.
I highly recommend it.

Yes, from my previous post:
I've struggled with a variety of the longer, non-OEM micro USB cables - the Amazon Basics, cables from Monoprice, etc. I had problems with all of them, either not providing enough current, or just flaking out within a short time. At one point I thought my phone (EVO 4G) had a problem with the micro USB jack (it didn't). Then one day I found a great cable on Amazon:
Search Amazon "Mediabridge - USB 2.0 A-Male to Micro-B Cable (6 Feet)"
I've been using this cable for several years now, and it has proven to be very durable (I've run over it with my office chair a number of times), and has always provided the full current of the charger I am using with no issues at all. I purchased another one recently to use in another location, and the quality is the same. I've been using these cables with all of my phones, and currently with the Note II.
I'm using this one from Monoprice, with the standard OEM Samsung wall / desk charger that came with the Note II:
http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10303&cs_id=1030307&p_id=5458&seq=1&format=2
It's six feet long, and is a pretty thick cable. I used it today for the first time to charge my new Note II. Coupled with the standard Samsung charger, it charged my Note II from 12 % to 100% in two hours, thirty one minutes -- and that included charging during two incoming phone calls that each lasted about 10 minutes.

If my calculations are correct that's putting about 1120 Ma per hour into your phone.
I wonder if it would charge that fast on usb and have data too?
I also wonder how that compares to the stock USB cable that came with our charger.

Good questions. I was wondering the same things, particularly as the Monoprice cable is double the length of the stock one. At some point, I'll try both charging from my laptop with the Monoprice cable, and switching out and using the stock USB cable, for comparison purposes. My problem (well, not REALLY a problem at all!) is that my battery seems to be lasting around 27 hours, so it may be a while before I can get around to doing this!

My stock usb cable that came with my Samsung charger shows charging on USB, even though it's plugged into the wall.
Conversely, put my note on my 2 amp car charger and the note says charging on AC.
Something is not right with the stock setup. Sure it charges but it should read charging on AC if it's on AC.
Just did a test. Found a usb cable from another device and plugged that into the Samsung stock charger. Now it reads "charging on AC."
I used that same cable and USB on my desktop. My note said charging on USB.
I think the cable was the bottle neck on the charger and the usb port on the desktop is not putting out enough power to make the Note believe its on AC.
USB is USB as far as our desktop/ Note goes, but if you are using AC, then the cable becomes more important if you want the fastest charge. What's apparent is we didn't get a real charging cable with our Note II. .

So far, I haven't had any problems with my stock Samsung USB cable. You can always try the Monoprice cable I mentioned in a prior post. Also, I've read on these boards that it sometimes helps to try different USB ports on your computer, and that it can actually make a difference in charging.
Interesting topic I have been wondering about myself. The cable I got with my Note 2 is not good. The connector, when attached, is easy to move aside, does not hold in place and the sad thing is, it is original manufacturer cable.
I used several different cables and found out that the problem is the height (length) of the micro USB connector, which protrudes from the connector's plastic cover. The other thing I found is that standard Samsung cable, delivered with the phone is few fractions of millimeter shorter than any other cable I compared it to, and suffers from it.
Amazon basics cable I ordered recently might have the connector metal only barely longer, but holds much better (in fact it fits tightly and feels very well fixed in the socket). Contrary to some, I have not observed any problem when charging the phone with this cable and original charger. Maybe the newer cables are already adapted to the chargers as well.
The fact that the norm is not always the norm is also proved by original Samsung MHL adapter (with HDMI out). This has "micro USB" connector (here it is 11 pin though) which is roughly 1-2 mm longer than the one on supplied charger cable. This one gets "all way down" into the hole and still does not even touch the case with its plastic part (there might be ~ 1mm space between the plastic of connector and Note 2 case).
Now, when I look at potential micro USB cable for Note 2 I always check the length of micro USB metal part. It must be longer than original cable from Samsung, otherwise it will have flimsy connection.
Length
I try and use a shorter cable as the longer they get the more power you loose. I use a 6" inch usb A to B Micro. I love this cable because my phone can sit right next to my computer and its getting the max power.
i get them at cableforge.com
use this coupon it always works for me G5WJXH4F22MN

HDMI MHL Adapter.

Hey guys.
I ordered this cord about 2 weeks ago now.
I got it in the mail today, thinking it wasn't going to work.
It was only $7 so I thought, ehh whatever
I plugged all of the cords (HDMI, Power and Charger port).
Whattya know, my phone screen is now on my television.
I already watched a movie on my television, ported full 1080p. No lag whatsoever.
Watched Netflix, no problems, full screen playback working crystal clear.
Just a couple small problems, the USB is very touchy. The screen will stay mirrored, but if you pull back the USB port even a tiny bit, it will lose the picture.
I noticed when i have the phone plugged in, my data signal diminishes significantly. I'm not sure if its because of the cord or just the crappy phone reception in my home.
I know for a fact this CANT be genuine.
I'm actually quite surprised.
For the whopping price if $7, this is a steal.
I will post a video later, don't have a camera at the moment.

I got one off of amazon for fairly cheap as well, but I found the gaming to be pretty laggy so it's been stuffed into a drawer somewhere.
Is this the one with micro-usb charging port on it? If it is,can you charge your phone if you connect charging cable to this MHL adapter while it's connected to Note2/TV? For some reason I thought that it's just like OTG cable where you phone becomes a host and outputs HDMI signal and you can't charge it out. But then I read somewhere you can. So, can you please clear it up if phone can be charged through that micro-usb port on the side (if your adapter has one)?

I'd say a little but not too much.
I plugged it into my TV at 100 percent.
I watched a movie that lasted about an hour and a half and when I took it off, it was at 92 percent.

when you use TV-out you should set display brightness to the lowest setting, and use both an original Samsung charger and an original Samsung usb cable.
many 3rd party chargers and cables can't handle the 1.5-2A the note 2 needs for charging while using TV-out.
I'll try this also. Thanks for the link. Where are you guys getting your authentic Samsung cables and chargers? Samsung directly?

here is video showing HML running on MA7. I'm using the generic Monoprice adapter, the 5-11pin adapter, and their ultra slim with RedMere HDMI cable (signal goes one direct only).
It's not that other cable and charges don't work. The phone uses more power to convert the signal for the USB cable. Then the adapter needs power to work, so you're not getting the full 2amps being passed from the charger. On top of that, the USB may not have rating or resistance to pass the 2amps as well. Thus, what may appear as the phone not charging is really the phone battery not depleting as quickly because it's not recieving more power that the GN2 is using.
I've used cheapy cables and other chargers fine to watch videos and what not, and the phone build a charge; just not as quickly as the OEM.
I've used the OEM cable and charger, and still depleted the battery because I was runuing WiFi tether, and HML. The best I was able to do, reduce the depletion to 10% an hour.
I recommend this to save battery life. It requires root but lets you turn the screen off.

I bought the OEM MHL to HDMI cable and it stopped working after a couple of uses. And I only use the OEM charger with the cable
I tried swapping out the HDMI cable, but that didn't make any difference. Picture would not go to the TV. Is there a setting that I'm missing on the device for TV out?
I assumed the cable was defective and bought a cheap one from monoprice, but same story there, it does not work either.
no special setting. Probably a driver got borked in the phone. You may want to reflash or do a factory reset assuming you've switch cables, adapter and tried a different TV.
I bought a similar one from another seller but the pin is quite long and doesnt go in completely. Is it the same in your case?
And no im not getting anything on my hdtv :/
I have a Samsung MHL adapter that I bought to use with my OG Evo or Evo 3D, don't remember which one. I've had it for years now, and it still works great! I wish that Samsung would make something like HTC did with their Media Link HD. I still use my Evo LTE and Media Link HD to watch my TV shows on Droid TV PrimeTime. That's an awesome app that only costs $9 every 3 months. It doesn't have movies, just TV shows. It has shows from their current series though, and will record shows (from the series you've selected) just 12 hours after it airs! I only use Netflix for watching older series of shows and movies.

Decent USB cable in the UK?

Hi,
Can anyone recommend a decent USB cable for my sons N7?
Need to get a replacement, but the ones i currently have are not beefy enough to charge properly.

Same problem, can only find pathetic skinny fragile things.
I have used this cable without any probs
AKASA part no AK-CBUB05-10BK
bought from CPC order code CS20881
Try a flat ribbon cable, Amazon Uk have them http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb...onics&rh=i:electronics,k:flat micro usb cable Various lengths and colours. I use a standard 1.2mtr blue one that I bought last year.
I'm using Logitech cable for charging (got it with the mouse) and Nokia cable for PC (they are always connected, that's why separate cables), so get one of those.
I've only had problems with 3 years old Samsung cable because it kept falling out (it stays in on my SE phone)
I really doubt beefyness of the cable affects charging though. I charged my tabled on just about any cable I've found laying around in the house with no problems
The reason as to why your charge cannot keep up is most likely due to using a charger with lower amperage (i.e 1amp/1A).
As long as you purchase a 2amp charger and compatible usb cable, then you shouldn't have any more issues with draining the battery faster than it can be charged thanks to the 2amp charge rate.

Trick is to get a short a cable as you can. The impedance really effects charging. The difference between my stock and a 6' cable is like a 60% drop.

Car USB charging issues

Hello. N6 running terminus ROM with elementalX kernel.
My car CD player has a USB port rated for 1v amp which is enough to charge the phone. It charged my nexus 5 no problem with same cable.
Things I've tried. Diff USB cables, turning on force fast charge via trickster mod app and taping the 2 inside pins on a USB cable to make it a charge only cable. This works briefly for about 10 mins then it stops. I'm driving cross country in 3 weeks and I'm trying to nip this in the bud. No cigg lighter outlet avail.

Order you another charger and be done with it. I have a Pioneer AVH head unit with a 1a out and it was terrible with the N6. Yeah it worked with my s4 and s5 but not the nexus 6. I bought a fast charge charger from Amazon and it works like a champ. Sorry i just read your last line., not lighter sucks. Maybe you can have one hard wired in for your trip.

You may want to consider buying one of these 12,000 miliamp-hour supplemental battery packs for recharging. They're pretty cheap now. Recharge it each night in the hotel room. About $20.
true and you can even charge it from your 1a usb jack
Thanks guys I have a 3,800 mah portable charger but I'm going to go to a battery store here and buy one this size that was suggested.
So I solved the issue. I took a USB cable and turned the cable into a charge only cable by splicing the green wire with the white wire creating a short to the 2 inner USB pins. Plugged it into my pioneer head unit and it would charge. However when I would open maps and look around in maps or take a pic it would instantly kill the charge. So I was like wtf man. Opened trickster mod and moved read ahead buffer size from stock 512 to 1024 and it solved all issues.

Fast charging sometimes works

Does anyone else have this issue with their note 5 where sometimes it says fast charging and sometimes it's just regular charging?
Not using the OEM charger, are you using a different one?
you have to use the charger designed for the Note 5. The Galaxy S6 wont fast charge my note 5. also you need to have the device (and the wall plug part too if you can) under a fan. It gets hot, and when its hot the charge gets slower

Yes I am using the original charger that came with the phone, the cord and wall.
I know sometimes I'll plug in the OEM charger and it starts just regular charging. If I unplug it and plug right back it starts fast charging. Weird but it happens half the time.

Quick charge 2.0 chargers work too.
I would try using a different cord just to see if it makes a difference. I have seen it talked about before where the issue was a cord, even when they are brand new.
I have seen this same behavior as well so sometimes with my one charger cord combo, it takes a few tries to get fast charging to kick in. With my new charger and cord I haven't noticed it happen yet.
And yes the previous fast chargers all work fine. I haven't even used the charger and cord that came with my Note 5 yet.

Any Fast charging Charger should work, because it is a standard. (Qualcomm's patent: https://www.qualcomm.com/products/features/quick-charge )
I've been using a Chinese but functional Fast charger that was veeeery close to be a original one. In fact, I believe the internals are the same you'll find in the original Samsung charge. It was fine for 11 months until some solder points broke and I was getting regular charger, sometimes fast and sometimes nothing at all.
I thought it was lint or dirt buildup in the cable or the phone itself, so every time I needed fast charge I used to blow on the charger, the cable and the phone; basically giving it the Nintendo NES cartridge treatment! LOL After a while that didn't work and soon enough It stopped working.
I disassembled the charger to check for broken solder joints and yes, the GND joints were broken and also the transformer but I guess that was my fault. Chargers and other gadgets are made not to last. It is called PLANNED OBSOLESCENCE so it was a PITA to disassemble. In the end the white plastic housing was FUBAR, I couldn't get the internals out. (The housing is made from a chewy plastic, It won't break like it was made of bubble gum) So I had to take a pair of pliers and rip the plug connectors. The charger is made to never be taken apart, It is disposable.
After a half hour battle I could resolder everything and I took apart an old DVD player and used its power cord to power the charger. It is nothing more than the PCB and a long power cord but it works again.
So long story short:
-Any good quality fast charger SHOULD work
-Any good quality USB cable should work
-Murphy's Law: If you need to charge your phone because it only has 5% battery, the charger will fail
-Some gadgets are not meant to be repaired, they are disposable
On the attached photos, the one with red arrows is where I had to resolder.
I had that problem too, is the cable, mine took 1 year to broke and i bought some news cables and they always work with fast charging
