Just bought a 4X HD, root or update to lates firmware first? - LG Optimus 4X HD

Hey fellas, I just bought a LG 4x HD from Amazon for $417 only...and I know about the locked bootloader and such but that didn't stop me from getting this awesome phone. Anyways, just like what the title states as soon as I get the phone should I update it to the latest firmware right away or should I root it first then download Root keeper and then update to the latest firmware?
Any input will be greatly appreciated and really looking forward to begin working on this awesome device! Some people may know of the kind of work and support i've provided with other devices such as the G2X, T989 Galaxy S2, HTC Amaze, T999 Galaxy S3, and the Asus TF300t.

Doesn't matter here. You can do either first, root persists for ota and can be done on any version.

I see so if I rooted first then updated it would still retain root access? Even without worrying about using RootKeeper?

update
then root

My opinion is the same.
First update and after root.

For me it did. I had rootkeeper installed and did a backup, but I dind't have to restore it. And many others reported that it stayed rooted even without rootkeeper. Of course this only applies to the FOTA upgrade, not for flashing a .kdz file.

Even flashing from a .kdz file (most part of the times, not always) the ROOT remains.
The ROOT is eliminated when web upgraded, by the LG Upgrade Tool.
This is the most comun result, not saying that don't existe exceptions...

Hi guys,
welcome to the LG section and the device is super ( I love it). I hope to get unlock boot-loader to feel the power of the device
I wish you babymatteo and the others the best with developing the device .

First, I would say buyer beware. Second, I seriously doubt it considering no root yet with the locked boot loader and the talent in this community. However, if you are willing to jump first...let us know how it goes and make sure you have video to prove it

Thanks for the info! I guess I jumped the gun on asking in a new thread (and I'll admit it, I didn't do a basic search for Kingo before hand.) I'm not quite sure I wanna be the first to try this on my AT&T S5.. even though I'm kinda that desperate to get Root :-/

The latest firmware update for the AT&T S4 (NB1) does not yet have a direct root method. The obstacles for obtaining root on this phone (S5) and that phone are generally the same. So I would say root will be achieved on the S4 (newest firmware) before or at the same time as root for the S5. So I would say you are correct about it taking a little while.
I was under the impression that the CF-AUTO ROOT Method would work on the at&t SGH-I 337. Please advice

Nope. Won't work. There is no direct root method for NB1 yet. There is a work-around that involves SafeStrap and installing a pre-rooted ROM, but that's it at the moment.

I'm sure it's been asked and answered, but since you mentioned it.. The same type of work-around, using SafeStrap and installing a pre-rooted stock ROM, can't be used on the S5?
Here is a mirror to the Cf auto root method I used using Odin and it gave me for access I can't speak for the NB1 as my s4 was 6 months old at the time.

Pretty sure safe strap requires root first on JB ROM, then flashing a pretty rooted kit Kat update.

No it doesn't sorry for the confusion this only works on the at&t galaxy s4
(Quoted from Chainfires Google+) That's impossible to predict, but I certainly wouldn't bet on it. It may take months or never happen. If root is important to you, get an unlocked device and be sure you'll have it.

Unrooting the device though Odin works in restoring your warranty. Doing so make it as if it never was rooted.
atlast I have rooted it successfully
In iPhone, I failed to jailbreak first time, because I updated iOS version 6 to ios7 from my device software update. (OTA=Over the air). Not by iTunes.
But that time solved the problem, by Restoring my device via iTunes. And then able to jailbreak easily..
Now my Question:
Since Galaxy S5 came in version 4.4.2...
But after using 2 or 3 days, an update was installed in my SMG-900H.
Update file size was about 25-30mb.
But still version no is 4.4.2, no change is there..
So will it cause a problem (like- iphone) , if I try to Root my Galaxy S5 first time?

yes you can root, but can't do any more updates after rooting. if you want to update in the future, you would need to go back to stock causing you to lose root, update, and then, root again after the update.
Hi,
I want to root my S5 as soon as I get it (as with all my previous Galaxy devices)
But , the rooting procedure makes the device "custom" and then Allsharecast does not work as far as I know.
Is there a solution to this for S5 ?
On the S3 and Note 8 , I had a modified lib file (libWFD_Engine.so) which fixed the problem of being a custom device.

Root on Lollipop already (Confirmed by 1)

http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/com...y_s5_will_get_lollipop_starting_today/cq62ktt
In this comment, is a procedure to get root on ATT S5 Lollipop. I haven't tried it myself, might do it in a few hours. You do need to be rooted beforehand.
I wish I would've know this before I updated
I think that may be rooting it on a SS rom slot, not the actual OS on the phone.
It seems hes just replacing the backup's system partition with the Lollipop one, restoring and wiping, so wouldn't that be the stock slot?
EDIT: Screwed up the quote my bad
It seems the commenter was confused on devices. I was reading the s4 forums and they restore a backup of rooted lollipop, which we don't have. Maybe someone brave can try with rooted 4.4.4 and flash ota over Odin like the post

Don't know how true that one click root method is. We've never had a one click root besides towelroot. I'd also say give it a try and see what happens. If you soft brick it,just flash the Downgrade tar in Odin.

As far as I know, there is no way to root an unrooted OC4. But it has been done to downgrade to root, but not successfully repeated the last I read. It has been said many time for this and prior OTA updates. Don't apply the update until root is confirmed. I like to download the update and upload the .cfg file to help those who work on rooting processes. I think Muniz noted that they advanced the Qfuse in this bootloader so it is near impossible to downgrade in order to root. ( I say near impossible because of the 1 report of a successful downgrade)
I updated from NCE to rooted 5.0. Here is the link. Follow the steps to the T: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3076803

The title of this thread should be "root FOR lollipop" instead of "Root ON Lollipop". There is no root once your phone is ON Lollipop you needed to be rooted beFORe upgrading to Lollipop. Buying the phone new with Lollipop or taking the OTA renders it unrootable.

Root S5 Active Help

Can anyone help me out with rooting my s5 active? Its the SM-G870A model with android 5.0, baseband G870AUCU2BOF3, and kernel 3.4.0.
No, can't be done. This was the best place to ask so save yourself the time and stop Googleing. It can not be done.
just want to confirm that this cannot be done even if we are not concerned about tripping KNOX sensor? i am so sad, i've been away from rooting devices and i should have known better when i was updating that i should have rooted first.
Still no. If you took OF3 there is no going back or rooting. Sorry, some work is being done but no progress and probably won't happen.
any updates?
Been 2 months any updates? Like a DA i updated to this current version OTA, as a long time rooter I should have known better.

Long time lg user here im actually comming from a g4 to a active because one i love the phone im a mechanic i cracked my screen and it works fine just dont wanna dammage it any more. Im so fed up with lgs locked bls. Ive done a lotta test with g4 and the encryptions used are crazy. Ive seen unlocks and roots come year s later. Were dealing with a no rootable situation on marshmallow. Bootloader in mm checks integrity on system partition also no bl unlock no root. And android n will even be worse. I personaly think unless it a completly low end phone development is dead unles u buy a developer or internqtional series phones. The new encryprions use 256 bit keys which are just about uncrackable

T810 root without tripping Knox

Hi folks, I just got this awesome tablet and I noticed that there's only the way to root this tablet by flashing chainfires stuff, which definitely will trigger knox and void our warranty.
So I wonder if there's any chance to get a smooth rooting method without tripping knox?
I don't think so, otherwise there would exist a thread.
It might be possible but the way to go isn't discovered yet.
And it seems if not many Devs are interested in the T810, dunno why.
I'm not able to develop my own rooting method, so I will appreciate the existing one or stay unrooted

It wont trip knox. No one has tripped Knox yet on a Samsung device with kingroot.
Thanks for your reply, I just tried Kingroot but I had no success (5.0.x)... I made a root request from inside the app.... I was the first one doing it for this device.
So I'd assume it won't happen anytime soon
