[Q]Htc Incredible S Root (Branded by optus) - HTC Incredible S

Hi guys,
I'm new to Rooting phones, and I was just wondering what guide should I follow to root my phone, because it's branded to optus, Does that make a difference?

Thanks for the quick response + The anwser.

It will allow you to use apps the require root permissions (obviously)
You can backup things
Modify /system files, including deleting bloatware
Not much for the regular user
However when you install a custom ROM/kernel, you can do much more. Over clocking, undervolting, mods, more mods, supercharge, optimize for performance. Custom ROMs have more features, such as venom which has everything customisable.
Main reason for rooting for me was to install custom ROMs and kernels.

Yeah thanks,
The main reason for me wanting to root my phone is because Optus has installed Apps(Bloatware) Which can't be uninstalled, and it drains the battery life :l

I am a bit confused ( As i said i am new..) Do i have to unlock my bootloader? if so Htcdev.com doesn't list one saying one for optus,
Help would be nice,
Thanks in advance

Just pick one of the other IncS. The instructions are generic in nature and will work regardless of the branded IncS.

[Q] Installing themes on the Captivate

If this has been asked more than once, I apologize!
I got this phone couple days ago and I stumbled upon this forum to notice many different themes. I was wondering how you change it from the original Captivate theme to the themes the makers made here. Thanks
Are you rooted? Do you have a certain rom? Because you cant get a theme from developers until your rooted and have a Rom that the theme is for?

Here's an easy way to see if your rooted, go into your apps and see if you have an app called superuser. If you do, then you are rooted but if not then you are not. As for the rom I'm not sure as to what rom you have I'm not sure.

Read this guide over, it will explain how to install a custom rom, which is basically ( in very simplified terms) just a new very advanced theme that replaces the old stock one that comes with the phone. That link can tell you everything you need to know. Just be REALLY careful! the first time I tried to install a new rom my phone got messed up and i couldn't use it for three days. But anyways, have fun and welcome to the site!

I suggest Phoenix as your ROM. Its very simple to use and has good speed and good battery life. It's the first rom I had .
Here's the link http://www.phoenix-hq.com/ to the site with the downloads from everything from the Rom to Themes for the Rom to wallpapers.

I think it's a better idea to look at it as a follow-up of the HTC Legend.
is there any method anyone has used to successfully root this phone?
I have got the superuser app for it i have it installed, but it doesn't work which is annoying, i tried to install busybox but it has got to be rooted thought it might of helped bypass it but nope lol
i hope S-off, rooting and custom ROM support darktremor app2sd will appear very soon
i've tried all the rooting options on this with no luck yet
Is there any possibilities someone can root this device?
Seem no particular developer working on this

[Q] Removing default apps

Hi, I just bought my HTC Desire C and there is a lot of default apps that I don't use and I would like to remove them. Even if I remove for example Google +, it gets installed again automaticly. I know that the possible way to do it would be by rooting my device but I'm not sure if that would affect the warranty, so I'm a bit worried doing that. If there is any other way to do it without rooting my device, please tell me.
If you don't want to root your phone, just leave xda right away
Without kidding, nope there's no way to delete system apps without rooting

Root Only
If there System apps, like Phenziox said you need root. so if you dont want to root then you cant go no further

This is my second Android, my last one I used Cyanogen Mod, and I also tested other roms. I've rooted the phone to be able to move apps to SD card because it was a not recent version of Android... And I noticed that in terms of battery for example, it was even worst than the original version... and there are always something that don't work proprely... and I decided to keep this phone system completely original... I'm just worried because my HTC don't have even a month and if there is any problem they may not accept the warranty because I've rooted the phone? don't know just precaution
if a custom ROM is worse then the original, there's a reason behind it which you need to find, but you can certainly rule out rooting as a possibility. I can confirm, a good custom ROM such as Revolution Sense 3.1 is simply miles better then the original, this is why we are using it.
Any software or brick problem?
Most answers and solutions is on xda
Hardware problem?
You need warranty
But there are some shops that have parts

Right.. do you know any link where I can found more info about that ROM? If everything works properly and there are "reasonable" bugs, and some improvements, I'll consider change it to that ROM.

only five replies and already my favourite thread of the week!
If i understand correctly, your question could be translated as "why does the Custom Rom 'Viper ROM' not have the Watch-App included"?
In most cases, it isn't considered as a very polite thing to do, but let me answer this question with another question anyways: why exactly aren't you asking this question in the right thread within the right sub-category?

It's not included because it is considered as bloatware. It can be downloaded separately. It was discontinued by HTC in many countries.
I hope you are not put off by the rude replies of other people, there are some nasty people on here.

I've tried to install ViperRom few times, but it always freezes during Aroma. Only have had Clockwork recoveries (touch enabled), have you been able to install Viper using Clockwork's touch enabled recoveries?
Hello everybody,
I am a newbie in android. I want to change my Stock ROM to Viper ROM, but won't be able to do S-Off on my phone because phone's hboot ver already 1.54.
Can I install Viper ROM and use ElementX Kernel on Viper ROM while S-On? If it can, are there any missing features because of Security still On?
Thanks and regards,
Anto

TWRP works better with Viper, but people have flashed it with CWM. Go slowly thru Aroma, pausing between screens. It's and Aroma bug, not a Viper issue. Also clear Dalvik and cache before install.
You can install both ViperOne and ElementalX with S-on, need unlocked bootloader, custom recovery, and root. You will lose no features.
Hello everybody,
The main reason for me to move from stock ROM to Viper ROM are battery life and customization.
I have seen for customization in Viper ROM, it is great, but I don't know about battery life, especially while using internet via Wifi.
Could someone here give me an info about battery consume using Viper ROM for browsing(using JB's default browser), chatting, reading email, etc (not including downloading) so I can compare it with my current Stock ROM?
Currently, using Stock ROM (JB 4.2.2), my battery drain about 1% for about every 4-5 minutes.
Thanks and regards,
Anto

[Q] Switching from Android Revolution HD 13.4 to 21.0

Hi guys.
I recently flashed Android Revolution HD 13.4 onto my phone because I was unsure of v21.0 However, I saw that Blinkfeed can be removed on 4.3 so I figured I might give v21.0 a shot. However, I've heard there are a few issues with v21.0 but apparently it may vary between different members/phone.
So my first question is: what are some known issues so far?
My second question is: do I just flash v21.0 like I normally do with other roams?
Apparently, I might have to install different firmwares on my phone. However, the problem is to be able to do that, I need S-OFF. Unfortunately, my hboot is v1.54 so it seems my phone is no longer capable of achieving S-OFF status. Will this, overall, hinder my ability to upgrade to ARHD v21.0?
Cheers everyone.

Known issues:
1- you need to enter APN manually
2- can't access SIM card contacts
You don't need to update firmware, it's optional.
Wiping is recommended since it's a new base, to avoid potential bugs.
Just do a nandroid and try it out

I have s-on. Never remember seeing anything on the page that requires s-off. It was optional for both ROM. I just did 12.3 to 21.0 like a week ago with no problems. Contacts come from exchange and Gmail so I haven't noticed anything to report whatsoever. It has been rock solid on my One from at&t. I just backed up everything via Helium and restored. Tried Titanium and it was pure garbage and would kill my phone every restore attempt.

Cheers to the both of you for the quick responses. It seems I might just be a little paranoid with all the different roms and such. Welp, since my warranty's now void with all the unlocking and rooting and such that I've done, I might as well go nuts with the flashing and what not.

The base usually refers to which Android version the ROM is based on.
For the One, it started with 4.1.1 then 4.2.2 and now 4.3 (they're all JellyBean, just newer versions)

The base actually refers to the software version not android version. e.g the Skydragon rom im using is made from the 3.18.401.1 base from HTC. Hence if you hear someone talking about a new base its not a new android verson but a newer software build from HTC (uisually to iron out bugs and improve system performance)
