Specs:
Processor- Qualcomm 800 mhz
OS- Android 2.3 (Gingerbread)
RAM: 256MB RAM
Screen Resolution- 360 x 480 pixels
I request all the devs & forum members to post all the Custom ROMs, tutorials, hacks & all the stuff related to Micromax A56 in this thread so that we all together can develop for this device. This is my first Droid, I love my phone
As I am new to Android (forget developing ) I may not be very helpful at building things from scratch, but I sure do tweaks and stuff. I tweaked some themeing and visual elements of the phone to better suit my style (the old look kills me, damn! So cheap for a cool phone like that!)
I am going to post few tweaked files I made up myself. Please try them on and tell me if they are good. Little appreciation is all I want from this thread Will upload files and screenshots real quick!
Tell me if I was good with this. This is my first post in XDA. I need lots n lots of your appreciation to go forward and make things! Thanks for reading folks! Hit thanks if you liked it.

Things to be done first!
1. Root Your Phone : You must gain root access as we need to modify or replace certain system only files. So make sure you root your phone. You will find rooting method for Micromax A56 here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1829389 Trust me its a really safe thing. No harm done to your phone
For debugging and FAQs on rooting procedure, please refer : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1791748 This is kinda the official thread for our device Thanks to Anshubham for his great efforts!
2. Install a Filemanager : The default filemanager app is useless as it can't manipulate files in system folders using root access. You nee a root-supported filemanager, I suggest using Root Explorer
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.speedsoftware.rootexplorer
Mind you, its a paid app (but you do know how you can get it for free if you really want to ) You can also use Root Browser Lite https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.root.browserfree
3. Take Backups : This is really important. As we are going to mess with the system files, once you screw it, you should be able to restore things without much fuzz. In course, you may need to replace certain protected system files and apps. So, whatever app you are trying to mod, make sure you make backup copies of the '.apk' files on your SD card. (SD card isn't safe enough, unless you are in a hurry, copy the files to your PC too). You can use your newly installed filemanager for this purpose.
Now you are all set to start modding!
Instructions to install/replace modded System files and APKs
You should realize you are going to play with some of the important files (ROOT folders) which are critical to the phone's working. So try and keep by the steps which are described here. This is the safest way I've been doing this. So, you can be least worried
Suppose that we are going to modify the app example.apk inside /system/app folder of your phone. You can use these same steps to replace just about any system app. So I need not repeat them everytime since they are common
1. Download the modded version of the "example.apk" file from this thread.
2 Copy this modded apk into your SD card using USB, Bluetooth, etc.
3. Open the "root supported" file-manager app which you have already installed in your phone.
4. Navigate to your SD card folder containing the "example.apk" file. Click "copy".
5. Navigate to your root folder and hit paste. example.apk will be copied there.
6. Long press on the modded file, click "permissions" from the menu.
7. Apply permissions strictly as shown below :
8. Now long press the "example.apk", click "Move", navigate to /system/apps/
9. Click "Paste" and click to confirm replacing the existing file with the same name.
Note : It is important to copy the file to your root folder first and not directly to its destination. This is because, you can't set the required permissions to the file when it resides on the SD card, and if you try to replace them directly without the intermediate copying step, it may crash! So stick to the plan folks
Thats it! Now depending on the exact files you tried to replace, your phone may (or may not) go haywire for sometime with lots of Forced Closes. No need to panic Just reboot your phone and its good to go!
I shall post my modded files further down these threads. Don't forget to thank me if I helped

You see bro, its not that I've tried, but gingerbread has issues with transparency in statusbar. Last time I tried, I got lots of garbled icons and text on the statusbar. Its like the reminents of each 'frame' are not getting erased properly and remain on the screen making them appear as junk pixels.
So, you see why I don't try it anymore. If you need, I have attached here my experimental '.apk' file with transparency mod. You can try it yourself
Apart from transparency effects, you can always go for a pseudo transparency like what I did here in my first pic. For eg. A black statusbar on a black wallpaper looks as if it is transparent, whereas actually it is not You can always match it with your current wallpaper.

Black StatusBar Mod : My Sunday Gift!
Hey guys, how are you
It seems my humble little thread has seen much fuss within these two days I'm flattered. Infact I've decided not to keep you waiting any more So here it is!
Black Statusbar Tweak
I donno why they have this UGLY statusbar in the stock app. Everyone should get these cool looks!! The stock statusbar was killing me. It gave the phone its cheap look (although we agree its cheap, but hey, its a Superfone ) I was so so jealous about my friend's Galaxy Nexus. I badly wanted the ICS look on my phone.
First step : turn the statusbar to black! In that way it could easily blend with my black-themed Xperia style wallpaper. Voila! Instant transformation to a high-end phone
Clearly the black themes give the ultimate look to the phone's screen. Maybe since it's got a high contrast, but color reproduction is poor. Anyhow black is what appeals me
Checkout the screens here. Doesn't the statusbar make a good impression?
You can download it from the third post of this thread. I have kept it reserved for aggregating all my mods. Make sure you get these cool looks on your phone ASAP!!
Oh, and by the way, enjoy your sunday

Thanks jyothisthaliath bro...!!!

[THEME] Massive *~BUUF~* For MDPI. Metamorph

So here it goes. After over 250 hours of copying, editing, resizing, renaming, putting things together and so on...
At long last it is ready. Buuf THEME finally for HERO devices.
The amount of work was massive.
For your OWN ease of application i have turned this into a Metamorph Theme. So you need to download Metamorph from the market (free).
SO! Here are the pictures.

- THIS REQUIRED ROOT ACCESS. For those that DON'T have root access, you can only apply the ADW launcher Theme.
- As you can see there is a lot of working going on through there. I tried to make it easiest to apply by creating this via metamorph. This means that WHENEVER an update for your rom comes, you dont have to wait for my update, you can just *simply* apply the metamorph zip and you'll have all your Apps buuf'ed. The only thing i couldn't metamorph yet was the framework-res file. I am planning to integrate that very soon, but at the mo', you're gonna have to apply a .zip via your recovery.
- Also, i am using ADW Launcher. There was a theme named ADW.buuf.theme in the market. That was not working with my rom causing many FC's, so i stripped it down, recreated it from scratch and added a ton of new app images. I have added a lot of default values that suited my liking (highlight color and so on). If you dont like those, simply change them via ADW Settings. ALSO, i have used some code from Eliotstocker to make this theme have some wallpapers. Simply change wallpaper and you should be greeted with a "Buuf Picker" option. In there i have included some of the best Buuf wallpapers.
- As you can see, I have applied a Circular Battery mod (credits to the creators). If you dont like it, simply go to the kitchen and create another mod. It is included in the framework-res.apk zip file
- I am using an edited font, extracted from the Galaxy S by Alex.
- I am also using LCD Density Changer. My setting is @ 139.
- Finally, i am attaching a small .zip file with the bootanimation i use (credit to the creator - sorry don't know who you are) with some amazing boot sequence back from the energy BIOS days, PLUS ad-free hosts, ridding you from the annoying ads.
ROMS
This is initially created for FroydVillain 1.5. The metamorph file should be applicable to ALL AOSP 2.2 Roms for ALL MDPI devices.
The only limitation at the moment is the lack of integration of the framework-res.apk file.
Instructions
1) Download Metamorph and install. Make sure you disable autokiller, in case it kills metamoprh while updating
2) Create a folder AndroidThemes in your SDCard and put the BuufMDPIApps.zip file in it. Apply.
3) Reboot to recovery and apply the framework.zip file
4) Download ADW Launcher and install my edited Buuf Theme. Go to ADW Settings, Theme Preferences, Load and apply.
5 - Optional) Apply fonts.zip via recovery - Credits to Alex
6 - Optional) Apply myboot.zip.
Caution: During the metamorph application of the theme, your phone is going to FC a lot, and sometimes ask for your pin. Please do apply the zip until it is totally done (if it stops, redo it), dont let your phone sleep, and please interact with the FC/SIM lock screens.
Uninstallation
Simply flash your ROM zip file on top. No wipe needed.

Donation
- This complete theme pack wasn't created for money. It was created to make the Buuf Theme live on for the MDPI Devices. All credits are due to the people stated above.
- However, i have put into this over 250+ hours of work. And for those of you who have never themed, well all i can say it was really a pain.

Changelog
19 Sept 2010 v1.2.1 - Initial Release
Requests
Requests for unthemed apps are welcome. Glitches and FC's, as long as distortions, should also be reported. If you wish to have your app icon changed in ADW Drawer, give me the app name, or even better the activity name (check it out via adb logcat, while launching the app) and let me know what kind of icon you want.

This as AWESOME Because you've done so much work on this also i reccomend you put it in the legend, eris and Hero CDMA forums because it should work on all those devices to Thats if you havent already
Once i get rid of the framework-res problem with metamorph i will post it under Android themes, and separately to MDPI Devices.
Thanks for the comments
hi!
the theme is looking great, awesome work!!
but i get an error when i try to extract framework-res file from recovery,i get an error that the file is corrupt or something like that...what could be the problem?
thanks!
Very good job !!
It works perfectly on Froydvillain 1.5
Just one question : what is your clock&weather widget on the screenshots ?
I am terribly sorry, i think i've put an unsigned framework-res.apk file. I shall update soon.
My clock is Beautiful widgets, with the ANDRODena_Buff clock skin and EmotiSun Weather skin.
edit. I updated the framework-res.apk file, although i doubt it was unsigned, on a second note. Perhaps your download was corrupted. Redownload and let me know please
PS. Thanks for the nice comments guys.

My particular framework-res.apk is modified. It includes the circular battery mod, which not only changes png's, but also adds a few xml files. So yes it does indeed need to be signed. The apk itself cannot, but the .zip needs to be signed with test keys, allowing for the modified framework-res.apk to be extractable and allowing recovery to apply it.

Why were you reffering to the apk before then? Anyways doesn't matter
phone keeps rebooting at gmail.apk floyo 0.8
Looks great, I will be installing on my lunch break
One question - what difference does the LCD Density app make, and why choose the density you have ?
@shields - try to manually update the rest of the apk's. My phone rebooted as well on Gmail.apk. perhaps you have autokiller running or something. Choose Apply existing theme, select the xml file, and manually update the rest apk's
@furrypotato The difference LCD Density app does is that it makes the screen look like a higher resolution one. For example, i can fit 5x5 (columns x rows) instead of the classic 4x4 MDPI devices have. My setting is just something i have found to work fine, and dont have too many scale issues with my apps.
Installed it and loving it.
A very different theme for me to use that's a refreshing change
Thanks
Thanks for the nice comments.
Please feel free to propose any new features.
Whats the best method of adding custom icons ?
I only had a few minutes to look before I left for work but I took a look on Buuf website and found an icon I'd like to use for Tweetdeck. (Fauna #13)
Now I'm guessing I can amend the xml file in the zip in some way and place the icon.png file in folders like the others, but is there an easy way of doing it ?
I even bought beatiful widgets cos I love the themes so much
Oh, and I updated to the new Gmail last night and it's broken some of the gmail graphics such as notfication of emails.

There's no way of adding custom icons yourself. That's how i tried to do it as well. But it doesn't work. You have to create the APK from the beginning, and thats what i had to do. Took me nearly 3 days of non-stop work to remake it.
I, unlike the original creator, will intent to update the icons when asked. So let me know what icon you want for what app, give me the activity name if you have it and i will update it.
I haven't had an eye on the new gmail (as a matter of fact i didnt even know it existed). I will look at those on the weekend, as the following two days i'm taking 3 exams and my head's about to explode.
Let me know though.
Cool thanks.
I'm looking to get the attached icon added to TweetDeck Beta . Dont know activity name sorry (Whats best way of getting it)
Tweetdeck beta in case you need it :

New Gmail is downloadable in market by the way.
friggan brilliant man, many, many, many kudos.

[MOD/THEME/TUT] Battery Indicator Theme

Warning! Applying a theme to the battery icon involves modifying system files and will more than likely brick your phone unless you are 100% sure on what you are doing or have a good back/restore solution

Here is an example theme i've attached below (see pre-made theme.zip)

and here is it in action
There are 2 quite serious prerequisites to this mod
1) Must be rooted with S-OFF
2) ClockworkMod installed and a backup taken (Please, please, please, do this in case of failure)
To create a theme from scratch.
1) Grab the source files for the theme of your choice from this thread
2) Grab APK Manager 4.9 from here
3) Download framework-res.apk from your "system/framework" folder using adb or root explorer
4) Place your downloaded framework-res.apk in APK Manager's "place-apk-here-for-modding" folder
5) In APK Manager choose option 22 to set current project
6) choose option 9 to decompile apk
7) replace battery xml files in folder "res/drawable" and pngs in folder "res/drawable-hdpi" within the extracted "projects/framework-res" folder that APK Manager creates
8) Choose option 11 to compile
9) Select "y" is system apk
10) Select "y" replace original folders
11) In the "keep" folder that APK Mananger has created, delete resources.arsc
and the battery xml files in "res/drawable" and the battery pngs in "res/drawable-hdpi"
12) Press any key and let APK recompile
13) In the "place-apk-here-for-modding" folder, rename unsignedframework-res.apk to framework-res.apk
14) Extract the attached "Blank Update.zip.zip" then Open up the update.zip with 7zip
15) Drag your renamed framework-res.apk to the "framework" folder in 7zip to overwrite the existing blank framework-res file
16) Close update.zip (agree to any messages about updating the file)
17) Copy update.zip to your sdcard
18) Flash the update.zip via ClockworkMod
My Pre-made battery theme
This contains the android battery theme I posted above, already to flash
Warning! This was made for software version 1.32.405.6 - You may get errors if running a different version to me. If so, restore using clockworkmod
1) Extract attached "Pre-made theme.zip" and copy update.zip to your sdcard
2) Flash the update.zip via ClockworkMod
Notes:
Online kitchen now works, happy cooking http://circle.glx.nl/
Thanks to liljom for the guide
Pre-made Change Log
v1 Initial release
v2 Charging animation now works correctly
v2 Colour - Added version with coloured status bar icons
Big thanks for this tutorial!
I love the look of this! Will need to install Clockwork Mod etc of course before I use it, but I will look into this soon
Just to clarify, is it possible to get only the battery mod without the other coloured icons? Is Pre-made themeV2.zip only the battery yes? And the colour version is all the icons?

Whilst I appreciate you gave a guide on how to make our own, I'm really not very graphically talented, would it be possible to have one where the numbers are clearer?
I love the little android, but I have to hold my phone right up to my face to see the actual percentage
Thanks though, have to have % visible
Sorry I didn't make the images. They were taken from this thread. You could maybe ask over there if anyone could help you though
Ahh, cool, I used the online kitchen to make my own, pretty awesome!
I've flashed my own one, but now I've lost all the colourful other icons. I assume if I flash them back over, I lose my battery icon, right?

Just out of interest, did you flash the zip file that the kitchen generated? It wouldn't work for me.
You can just add the icons back into the framework-res.apk (the one you had with the battery icons) and reflash

Actually I think you can build a version with the battery and icons using the online kitchen. You select the icons on the "Themed Icons" set page

I have a dhd and perm root and s-off flashed with overclocking, must i have clockworkmod to install this pre-made themeV2 or can i just use fastboot flash or is there another way other then installing clockworkmod ? (clockworkmod don't seam to have a recovery for my dhd yet anyways )
excellent thread vibez
so i would like to share my stock framework-res.apk with you guys, modified with "version a". update.zip attached.
I will port some of my other themes now
Love it. Beautiful.

Not really sure to be fair. I just used the clockworkmod that is kicking around in the dev section as it is the only way i'm comfortable with to flash update.zip files. There may be others ways to achieve the same thing though

Is anyone else using the online kitchen to build these battery themes?
It keeps generating folders with v4 at the end, ie drawable-hdpi-v4
The folders in the framework-res on my stock rom doesnt have -v4 at the end like so "drawable-hdpi". I believe this is why I keep getting force close when I flash the file from the online kitchen
yes some kitchens do that. thats why i prefer doeing it manually or checking with theme porter. i always check the res folders for these annoying -vX endings.
I thought so, it's just that someone mentioned in this thread that the kitchen work for them and i'm just trying to figure out how since it does add the pesky -v4 to whatever it cooks for me.
Manually is the way to go
Just out of interest, what does theme porter do?
i checks 2 files (old and new) for updated pngs, and copies them across.
very useful when you actually have a theme already, but simply want to port it (i.e due to an update of the framework res by the manufactorer). This does it for you. Not as sophisticated as apk-manager true

[UPDATE 6/11!!!]MIUI BATTERY MODS & MIUI Dark Theme Vari-Theme Manager Compatible!!!

[UPDATE 6/11!!!]MIUI BATTERY MODS & MIUI Dark Theme Vari-Theme Manager Compatible!!!
I got bored so I made some battery mods for MIUI. I added a theme (NEWTASK650 Dark) that i made off of the MIUI Dark Theme that i use along with some screenshots for anyone who likes it and wants to use it. It's a variation of the MIUI Dark Theme. Here's the original theme thread for it http://www.miuiandroid.com/2011/05/miui-com-official-dark-theme-consent-given-to-post/. Just download and check the previews to see more. I plan on trying to make 2 new batt mods a day if my schedule permits it. Make sure you go to Settings/System/Battery Settings/Battery Indicator Style and choose Percentage. Otherwise you will not see the battery.
BATTERIES CONTINUED IN POST #2 WILL TAKE REQUESTS!!!
These will only change the battery icon. NOTHING ELSE.
Download the .zip file you want to use, then extract the .mtz file, then FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS BELOW.
HOW TO APPLY
-Put on SD card
-Open Theme Manager
-Hit Menu soft key button and select Import Theme
-Select the battery theme
-Select EDIT THEME
-Select Notification Bar and then choose the battery that you want to use
-DONE
A Special Thanks to xavierjohn22 for helping me to make it easier for you guys

I read somewhere, that you have to like open the theme.zip and go to frame/res and add it there, but of course that didn't work.

Yes I have Root explorer.. And thank you so much
here ya go bro. so now all you have to do is open root explorer scroll down to sdcard file click on it find the systemui.apk and long press it, select permissions and on the first line from left to right check the first 2, the middle line just check the first one and no others on that line, on the third just the first one also. it should look like this.
x x -
x - -
x - -
the x's are the ones that are checked and the -'s are the ones that shouldn't be. hit ok. then long press the systemui.apk again and select move then hit the back button. find system file and click it the app file and click that then hit paste. you're done. hold volume up and power for about 10 seconds and it should reboot and you're good.
Ok so I did exactly what you said but it isn't working. Battery didnt change. So I tried again, and when I moved the file I checked the permissions again and they change. Its like it isn't saving the permission changes I am making. It IS copying and replacing the file in the system/app folder, but it isn't showing up.

You need to replace the images in the theme then. Are the statusbar, wifi, and data icons changing too? If not then the theme description needs to be changed too so those icons and the battery icons can show up too.

Take your theme. Zip it. Click on the zip and you will see your theme name. Double click on it and then it will open a new window with all of the theme's files. Find the systemui folder, look for a raw folder inside it and then replace the battery images with the one you want.
For the description file, you should unzip the folder area so you have the file on your computer. Keep the zip windows open, but go to where you unziped the folders. Click on it and edit the description file with notepad or something else and add this right before the last line:
<uiVersion>1</uiVersion>
Save it and replace it with the one in the zip (you can delete the folder on your computer if you want, since you don't need it anymore).
Make sure to save the changes to the zip file. And then can exit out of the folders area, and drag the theme name out of the zip file into your phone's sd card.
here ya go. good to go!

wow so you won't believe what the problem was the entire time. I actually went into the system/app folder and made a back up of my existing systemUI.apk, and actually I just renamed the original to be SystemUI-original.apk and then dropped the new on in. Problem was it was still reading that systemui-original.apk as being the one it wanted to use even though I had renamed it. So I went in and deleted the original, and as soon as I did I got the FC system errors... rebooted and tada it works fantastic. How weird.
Thanks for all your help

images and theming including battery icons
FYI, we dont have to go to troubles of modding SystemUI.apk
Just make an mtz file and drop the battery mod images in the same structure as the apk. Then drop the .mtz file in \sd card\MIUI\theme and apply it via thememanager
com.android.systemui\res\raw
Same goes for many other apps including the MiuiMusic.
See sample attached (though i'ved pick a not so good image, LOL, whatever i see first in my pc, ha ha ha)
extract the .mtz inside the rar attached
EDIT:
I provided the info because every week MIUI 2.3.3 has some changes, so it's not likely we will be modding the systemui.apk every week just to have the battery icon changed. you can just make it available readily in the sd card using mtz theming
e.g. samples for title
Battery Mod Circle
Battery Mod Cool
Battery Mod Wow
The title can just be change and other folders not needed in my mtz removed. Image attached showing how i use your battery images to try the MTZ file. You can just make a bunch of the MTZ file and post it as themes rather than flashable or overwriting APK

I Don't mind it al all bro, no problem, i was looking for a battery image then i came accross this thread. LOL
It will save you trouble in modding the systemui.apk every week if the deodexed rom has changes, it always has changes anyways (in patches only), now that they are revamping weekly, (at least for now) .
Here's on the top of my head as the idea
1. You could make many MTZ as i have mentioned. Copy what i have posted.
- battery mod 1.mtz
- battery mod 2.mtz
etc..
2. Each mtz will have same structure. Use winrar to change the file
3. description.xml contains the title of the theme. do not use weird characters as title
<title>Battery</title>
<author>Your name here</author>
4. com.android.systemui is the folder your battery images should go. Should be the same name too as what you are doing overwriting in APK
The images will be under com.android.systemui\res\raw
5. If you also want to change the toggle icons, put the images in com.android.systemui\res\drawable-hdpi
- You can even make a preview of it in the preview folder
- You can also remove the mms folder there
6. Put all the modded images and folder in the MTZ file

[SIMPLE GUIDE + LOCKRINGS] [ALL ANDROID ROMS] Change lockrings on any rom

ALL OF THE LOCKRINGS HAVE BEEN MOVED TO THE 5TH POST
G’Day XDA,
This is a really simple to do guide on changing the lockring on both a stock Samsung circle lockscreen and the AOSP lockscreen on ALL SAMSUNG, AOSP & AOKP ROMS and essentially this same method should also work on ALL ANDROID ROMS that are both ODEXED & DEODEXED. I have tested both using my own phone which is a Samsung Galaxy SII GT-I9100 which is running a stock Samsung odexed rom. I have been told that it also works on a Sony Xperia Arc. Your specific rom may have the lockring file named as something else, so you may need to go into framework-res.apk/res/drawable-hdpi (or-xhdpi or -mdpi depending on what device/rom you're running) to find the correct file. If you need help you can attach your framework-res.apk in here and I will do my best to help you out.
This is really easy to do for even a beginner like me, so I’m sure anyone that reads this will be able to do it. There are a few prerequisites to this mod – first of all you need a computer with an unzip style program like 7Zip, your phone needs to be rooted and you also need some kind of file manager (I use ES File Explorer but lots of people say they use Root Explorer). You will also need to have access to a program like Photoshop or Irfanview or Pixlr or Greenfish Icon Editor Pro if you want to change any pictures yourself. I have detailed everything step by step below with pictures so it should be very easy to follow.
Here's the guide…
(Lockrings in 5th post) PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU MAKE A NANDROID/CWM BACKUP BEFORE TRYING THIS - I CAN'T BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR ANY PROBLEMS YOU FACE, BUT I WILL DO MY BEST TO HELP YOU OUT IF YOU DO RUN INTO PROBLEMS
Step 1 - You will need to download the lockring that you would like to use. I have used different styles from HERE and also from HERE and also made my own. You can find some lockring collections made by martintspedersen HERE and by shishircoolin HERE. If you are smart enough to make your own using a program like Photoshop or Pixlr then top work. Just make sure that it is definitely a PNG file. Also make sure that if you want any of it transparent that it actually is (I made this mistake and it didn’t look very good, so I had to get my gorgeous fiancée to fix it up for me, as she is highly skilled in the art of Photoshop). Save the lockring onto your computer somewhere (I keep all of my stuff in a Mods folder) and you will need to modify it soon.
Step 2 - You will need to make a copy of framework-res.apk (which is located in /system/framework) and put it anywhere onto your phone’s SD card. Again, I use a folder called Mods which is easy to locate and remember.

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Step 3 - Plug a micro USB cable into your phone and then plug the other end into your computer. Open the directory where you saved framework-res.apk (for me it is GTI9100/Phone/Mods) and move it onto your computer’s desktop.
Step 4 - Now right click on framework-res.apk and select 7Zip – Open Archive.
Step 5 - Within the opened 7Zip archive, navigate to res\drawable-hdpi\ (or res\drawable-xhdpi on a Galaxy Nexus) and locate these files:
For the stock Samsung Circle Lockscreen, find unlockscreen_lock_01.png to unlockscreen_lock_20.png. These usually have a padlock ranging in different stages of unlocking, but I have used the same picture in all of them. You can do the same or modify them slightly, it's up to you.
For the AOSP Lockscreen, find ic_lockscreen_handle_normal.png which is the lock that is visible when a hardware button is pressed, and ic_lockscreen_handle_pressed.png is the same lock with the ring around it that appears when you press the lock.
Step 6 - Change the name of the lockring PNGs that downloaded earlier and want to use to the corresponding file names. For example, I have changed the PNGs in the first picture to use in the stock Samsung Circle lockscreen and the PNGs in the second picture are for the AOSP Lockscreen:
Step 7 - Now drag the renamed PNGs into the res\drawable-hdpi folder. Click yes when it asks you to confirm.
Step 8 - Close the 7Zip archive and now copy your newly modified framework-res.apk back onto the SD card of your phone. Again for me, I use the Mods file so it's easy to find.
Step 9 - Now on your phone, open your file explorer and navigate to where your modified framework-res.apk is. Long press it and select Move To and move it to the System folder on the root directory of your phone.
Step 10 - Now navigate to the System folder and long press on the framework-res.apk and select Properties. You will see this:
Notice how the Permissions is set to rw- rw- rw-? We need to change this otherwise you'll have big problems. Click the Change button and you will see this:
Step 11 - Uncheck the Group - write and Other - write boxes so that it looks like this:
Now click OK and you will see this:
Now click OK.
Step 12 - Now long press on framework-res.apk and select Move To. Move it to the Framework folder within System.
You will see the following warning:
Click OK. Now your phone will freeze. This is ok. It will be frozen for roughly 1 - 1½ minutes, then it will restart.
Once it reboots, you will be staring at your new masterpiece!

LOCKRINGS (These are made for a HDPI screen and are at 162dp x 162dp)
Ok below are a bunch of lockrings for everyone to use. I have also included the Stock ICS lockring and the Stock Samsung Circle lockring so that if you want to modify them yourself then you can. The other lockrings were made by me (apart from Metallica which was made by martintspederen). Just click on the picture you want and it will open up a new tab where you can download it. Once it's downloaded, extract the files and rename them to the appropriate file name for your particular lockscreen. Requests are both welcome and encouraged!
ALL OF THE LOCKRINGS HAVE BEEN MOVED TO THE 5TH POST, SO PLEASE SCROLL DOWN TO SEE AND DOWNLOAD THEM
Now if this post helped you I would love to know about it, so please post a reply. Even post screen shots of what you have done would be great.

Are you talking about the wallpapers that are in the screenshots in the guide? If so then it is actually a live wallpaper. I downloaded a program called Windows 7 Dreamscene Activator which you can get from here and I know it says it is for Windows 7 but I am running Vista and it works on my computer and I know it runs on XP Premium as well.
So once you install Dreamscene Activator you just right click on any mpg file and select Set as Desktop Background and then you've got a live wallpaper. Then I just searched for dreamscene wallpaper download on Google and that's how I found the Android one which is on the Dreamscene website here but for some reason it's not working at the moment. I just uploaded it for you, so click here and you can download it. Enjoy

I'm fairly certain that you need to go to Control Panel/Display then click on the Appearance tab and then click the Advanced button.
In this section you can change the colour for all of the backgrounds and text that you want. It's pretty cool.
Let me know how you go?

I've never used it to decompile though, I have always used APK Tool because it worked well with ICS Roms where as APK One Click didn't

Sure mate. What device are you using? And do you mean the lockscreen that you use to enter in a pattern to unlock the phone? How big exactly do you want it? I have a bit of an idea the files that you need to modify but I would like to know the device to be able to help you as best I can.

[GUIDE]Theming your ROM on Phone(Editing framework-res.apk to change icons)

So friends, here is a quick and easy guide for changing the status bar icons of your s5830i(Actually any phone )
For those who don't know how to do it(for anyone actually :highfive
Theory
Android is the awesome platform which is easily configurable and is able of being edited very easily
The icons used in every app and Android framework are located as png images in apk of those respective apps in location:-
*.apk/res/drawable-mdpi (in our case, as our phone is mdpi)
So, we can change any icon of our status bar like battery, signal, (not clock[clock is to be configures in SystemUI.apk{will post how to change it shortly}]), etc by editing png's in framework-res.apk
Not even that, you can edit images of any app as I told you
There are several ways to decompile and compile apk in which we have made change
If we want full access of apk and want to change every thing like the xml's in it and smali content in jar files, then we would have to do it on computer by apktool or apkmanager
But, we are here to only change image, so we would not go in detail of apktool or apkmanager. For changing images, that can be very easily done even on the phone by an app NinjaMorph that is made for developers by our senior head and DEVELOPING LEGEND Stephen(Stericson)
But be careful as backing up the original file if you do something wrong
And as you all know any developer or even a newbie posting something interesting that you want to try WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE for your mobile blowing up, resting in peace, sleeping like a dead, behaving like a non-living BRICK, or anything whatsoever that may or may not happen to phone in this universe or any other universe known or unknown
What to do if anything happened to my mobile
We have had a backup of your original file so we can restore it
But if while editing the system files like framework-res.apk
If you deleted some un-backed up apk's
Well you can always have backup of your ROM and that is why Koushik Datta has made clockworkmod Recovery
You can restore your ROM from there
Pre-Requisites
Patience

A GT-S5830i (A spare one if you brick your phone, just kidding)
Root access(to change the apk)
NinjaMorph(http://bit.ly/ninjamorph)
Root Explorer(Optional)(http://bit.ly/stericson)
GUIDE
So Let's Start
Download NinjaMorph. Install it and give it root access. It will prompt for starting checks. Click on start checks.
Now you would have three options, namely, New Project, Finish Project, Existing Project
Click on new project. Go to system/framework/ and click on framework-res.apk. It will start extracting files
Once it has extracted all the files, it will open to show you what is inside framework-res.apk.
Exit it and go to your file explorer.
Go to /sdcard/AndroidThemes/workspace/framework-resapk
This is what is inside apk. Go to res/drawable-mdpi folder
There you will see hundreds of icons of your menu, lockscreen, battery, signal, and everything
You can edit them and replace them as you want. But the name of the file you are replacing and size and dimension must be equal to the file you are replacing with(I recommend Googling and finding icons of battery, signal, and other things)[I have even used hdpi icons, there was no problem]
If you download a theme file which is to be flashed in recovery that is not for your phone, no problem, extract the zip and place its framework-res.apk in your sdcard and extract the apk with Ninjamorph. Replace your icons with its icons and TADA
After you have done replacing the icons and you are satisfied(I am never)
Go to NinjaMorph. Click on Fininsh Projects. Click on framework-resapk. It will recompile and ask to replace the original apk with modded one. Click OK
Then it will ask if you want to remove the completed project, Say No(As you would need it if something gets wrong)
Reboot your phone
Maximum chances are that your icons will be replaced. Rare cases have their status bar gone or no change, if so:-
Download(Buy) Root Explorer. Go to /sdcard/AndroidThemes/workspace,
There you will see framework-res.apk. Copy it and go to /system/framework
Mount as R/W
Paste the apk. If it asks that file already exists, overwrite it.
SET PERMISSIONS
Long click on framework-res.apk and click on permissions
You will see three columns
Read Write Execute
You have to set them in the following way
x means you have to tick it
blank means uncheck
Read Write Execute
.....x........x.................
.....x...........................
.....x...........................
Click OK
You will see it as rw-r--r--
Reboot
Do it over again if nothing happens
Enjoy
This way you can edit not only framework-res.apk but any apk

I get it, you're lebanese, and we here pretty much never pay for any software. But warez discussion isn't allowed as well, so you broke the rules as well.

You should edit Mms.apk
I don't know as I never edited Mms.apk
For colour you should edit xml files
Which won't be accessed by this method
And the code you are asking for
You won't get the xml from this method
So you won't be able to edit it

But in the systemUI.apk don´t have the lidroid's icon. I only found them in lindroid-res.apk.
I tried change the color with ninjamorph, and it´s work. But if I replace an icon, it doesn´t work.
thanks
Edited: I was trying replace the png's with the ninjamorph. It was the problem.
Now I replaced the png's with root explorer and all work fine.
Thanks so much....sorry my bad english
